ILIDEFI: Lol. Young man, I is always capitalised whenever it's being used. All other pronouns are only capitalised when they appear at d beginning of sentences.
Legions of rolling loools...I enjoyed your e-company... Go and learn about ELLIPSES...Chao,Shalom,Ciao...
ILIDEFI: You can't say, "thank you, Daddy", except the name of you father is Daddy, or is attached to his name or to somebody's name eg Thank you, Daddy Oyedepo. It is, "thank you, daddy" or "thank you, Mike" (if you call him by his name, and his name is Mike).

[quote author=ILIDEFI post=36334669]Whoever taught you English is a slow poke, seriously. I guess you also capitalise pronouns, because they are used in place of people's names.YES,YOU CAN CAPITALIZE PRONOUN.Take this example as a blow below the belt-I like you;however, I hate chowderheads. The i is capitalized
Several readers have asked why kinship names, such as names of brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, etc., are sometimes capitalized and sometimes not. Let’s have a closer look. ne, Rule 1: Capitalize a kinship name when it immediately precedes a personal name or IS USED ALONE, in place of a personal name.THIS IS WHERE YOU GOOFED
Examples Andy and Opie loved Aunt Bee’s apple pies. We adore Uncle Malik, because he always treats us like royalty when we visit him. Grandma and Grandpa were married in a chapel in a small French village. Let’s go ask Mom if we can go to the movies.
Rule 2: Do not capitalize a kinship name when it is not part of the personal name but is a word describing the personal name. This usually occurs when the kinship name is preceded by articles such as the, a, or an; or possessive pronouns such as his, her, my, our, your, or their.
Examples Andy and Opie loved their aunt Bea’s apple pies. We adore our uncle Malik, because he always treats us like royalty when we visit him. My grandma and grandpa were married in a chapel in a small French village. Let’s go ask my mom if we can go to the movies.
Rule 3: Do not capitalize a kinship name when it follows the personal name or is not referencing a specific person.
Examples The James brothers were notorious for robbing scores of banks and trains. There’s not one mother I know who would allow her child to cross that street alone.
ILIDEFI: Whoever taught you English is a slow poke, seriously. I guess you also capitalise pronouns, because they are used in place of people's names.
You only capitalise common nouns when they begin sentences or when they are the names of people, places, things etc, not when they are used to represent them. Examples: 1. Please, meet my friend, West (not meet my friend, west). 2. a) This book is for Justice. b) Don't worry friend, you will surely get justice. Did you notice the difference between option a and b above?

Did you notice the difference between option a and b above?[b]These examples of yours are a little bit inconsequential in what we are discussing here, which are called KINSHIP NAMES like mother, father, uncle, etc. Capitalization is the writing of a word with its first letter in uppercase and the remaining letters in lowercase. Experienced writers are stingy with capitals. It is best not to use them if there is any doubt.
Rule 1: Capitalize the first word of a document and the first word after a period. Rule 2: Capitalize proper nouns—and adjectives derived from proper nouns. the Golden Gate Bridge, the Grand Canyon, a Russian song
With the passage of time, some words originally derived from proper nouns have taken on a life, and authority, of their own and no longer require capitalization. herculean (from the ancient-Greek hero Hercules) quixotic (from the hero of the classic novel Don Quixote) draconian (from ancient-Athenian lawgiver Draco) The main function of capitals is to focus attention on particular elements within any group of people, places, or things. We can speak of a lake in the middle of the country, or we can be more specific and say Lake Michigan, which distinguishes it from every other lake on earth.
Capitalization Reference List • Brand names • Companies • Days of the week and months of the year • Governmental matters Congress, the U.S. Constitution, the Electoral College, Department of Agriculture. • Historical episodes and eras: the Inquisition, the American Revolutionary War, the Great Depression • Holidays • Institutions: Oxford College, the Juilliard School of Music • Manmade structures: the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, the Titanic • Manmade places: Berlin, Montana, Cook County • Natural and manmade landmarks: Mount Everest, the Hoover Dam • Organizations: American Center for Law and Justice, • Planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, but policies vary on capitalizingearth, and it is usually not capitalized unless it is being discussed specifically as a planet:We learned that Earth travels through space at 66,700 miles per hour. • Races, nationalities, and tribes: Eskimo, Navajo, East Indian, Caucasian, African American (Note: white and black in reference to race are lowercase) • Religions and names of gods • Special occasions: the Olympic Games, the Cannes Film Festival • Streets and roads
Rule 3: A thorny aspect of capitalization: where does it stop? When does the Iraq war become the Iraq War? Why is the legendary Hope Diamond not the Hope diamond? Everyone writesNew York City, so why does the Associated Press Stylebook recommend New York state? There aren't always easy formulas or logical explanations. Research with reference books and search engines is the best strategy.
If a trademark starts with a lowercase word or letter (e.g., eBay, iPhone), many authorities advise capitalizing it to begin a sentence.EBay opened strong in trading today.
Rule 4: Capitalize people’s titles when they are used before names, unless the title is followed by a comma. Do not capitalize the title if it is used after a name or instead of a name. The president will address Congress. Chairman of the Board William Bly will preside at the conference. The chairman of the board, William Bly, will preside. The senators from Iowa and Ohio are expected to attend. Also expected to attend are Senators Buzz James and Eddie Twain. The governors, lieutenant governors, and attorneys general called for a special task force. Governor Brown and Lieutenant Governor Newsom will be in town.
Rule 5: People’s titles are not the same as occupations. Do not capitalize occupations before full names.director Steven Spielberg, owner Helen Smith, coach Biff Sykes
Rule 6a:Capitalize a formal title when it is used as a direct address. Will you take my temperature, Doctor?
Rule 6b:Capitalize relatives' family names (kinship names) when they immediately precede a personal name, or when they are used alone in place of a personal name. I found out that Mom is here. You look good, Grandpa. Andy and Opie loved Aunt Bee's apple pies. However, these terms are not capitalized with possessive nouns or pronouns, when they follow the personal name, or when they are not referencing a specific person. My mom is here.Joe's grandpa looks well.
ILIDEFI: Must I teach you everything? Is uncle somebody's name? So if it's a father, it would have been "thank you, Father"? Guy, no provoke me o.
I will explain this... in my next post. I would not want to be rude but I should be asking you that question. Now,listen up.The rule to follow here is to capitalize father, uncle, aunt, mother, when used as proper nouns and not as common nouns.Capitalize when they are used in place of a person's name.Don't ever capitalize when you are using articles like a or an or possessive pronouns such as their, his, etc. Say:A big thank you to his uncle not Uncle and also say-A big thank you to Uncle. The proper way to put that your sentence is-Thank you, Father not thank you, father. You can say-He said thank you to his father not Father.I would stop here in order not to make this too complex for you. Now, say it loudly-Thank you,Uncle.Ciao.

TRAVERSE among many other explanations means: 2a : to go or travel across or over b : to move or pass along or through Merriam Webster dictionary.
Now say, "thank you uncle".
Oh Blimey!I went back to your post and saw that you wrote traverse and not tranverse...but mind you, some authors occasionally use transverse because it comes off as 'cross' too...but nonetheless, you have won for yourself a pack of MR BIGGS YUMMIES at any Mr Biggs' hole...just say..Uncle Ritchiee says...that is the 'open sesame' word...and remember... it is..thank you,Uncle...ciao..
vega84: He was a wicked Yoruba soldier that carried the civil war on his head and massacred innocent biafrans cos he wanted to impress Hausa-fulani. So wen u call him hero, I wonder what u mean? Hero of genocide or what? Mstchewwww Fking yorubas! Ndi ara. #vegatalks
ILIDEFI: Don't ever attempt to correct someone's grammar without checking your dictionary. And by the way, did you pass English language in WASSCE?
That question should be directed to you...there is nothing like tranverse,it is transverse...did you pass your electives?...sure you did Igbo language...loool
ILIDEFI: Post a link of the UNDP report. I should travel to Akure? I've traversed through Ondo severally. I've gone through your whole Yoruba enclave, so there is nothing you need to explain. You guys are living in real poverty. You only boast of Lagos, which has even more non-Yorubas than Yorubas. If the strength of Lagos was due to Yoruba ingenuity, how come you can't replicate a city like Lagos in other south West states? Is it the cities of old houses and brown roofs like Ibadan, Abeokuta, Osogbo that you are making noise about? Until you take a trip to the East, you have no right to say anything at all.
You are really a lost case... and it is transversed.....ciao
ArodewilliamsT: An Igbo man Olaudah Equiano (Ikwuano) wrote the first black Autobio Before Samuel Crowther the sierra creole was born. Even after death in london he inspired crowther and taught him how to read and write including many other black africans. An Igboman will always lead in all ramifications and you are destined to follow.
Go and read and learn... Olaudah just heard stories...he was not an Igboman...Google is your guide... read it all up and Olaudah and Crowther never met...maybe they did in death.... loool
ibisko04: Stop bragging my friend. In as much as I don't support any tribal definition of the Nigerian context, I want you to know that Yoruba and Igbo are at per in time of success in every respect.
I am sorry...Go and read up...we are not at par with the Igbos...they started the comparison...
looooooooooool, you are uneducated probably one of those chewing sticks sellers,go get some literacy and read up,only then can you come to the social media....go and ask why Yoruba language is a hot cake in UK...side by side with Italian, Hebrew etc..remember to ask your teacher at the night lesson o...
You presented no single fact, only assumptions and speculations. So why should I continue with you?
I got infuriated by the time you mentioned that Igbos don't have up to half of professionals that Yorubas have. That was the end of it for me.
Superior argument indeed. To even mention that Yorubas own most of the houses and shops that are being built in Lagos shows how inexperienced you are. 7 Yorubas to one non-Yoruba? You obviously know nothing. I'm sure you're a teenager.
Igbos don't troop to the south West to do business. Igbos do business in Lagos because of the economic climate of Lagos. There aren't more Igbos in the rest of the south West than those in Kano and Kaduna alone. The south East is already saturated with business ventures. 2 of the largest markets in West Africa are in Onitsha and Aba. People travel all the way from the whole Northern part of the country to buy goods from Onitsha. So what's your point about running away from the south East to escape poverty? Have you travelled to any eastern state? At least I've been to all southwest states apart from Ekiti, so I understand the level of poverty in Yoruba land especially in the rural communities, compared to the East. Even Osun state civil servants are starving because on non-payment of salaries, yet you open your mouth and say igbos run to south West to escape poverty.
Please I don't have the strength to engage you any further, cos u're very inexperienced. You're a typical Yoruba boy who stays in Abeokuta and shouts that Igbos should leave Lagos and go back to their villages. The day you travel to an average 'village' in Anambra, you will be ashamed of your entire state.
I am sorry but you are not making any sense here...the facts have already been given by UNDP and you have read them yourself...The south East is poverty stricken and this is why they troop to the South West and don't compare the numbers of Igbos in the North to that of the South West, they are not even up to 1/4...I have been to the North...leave your place in Lagos and travel to an area in Akure and you would be totally further dejected and ashamed of your entire Eastern region...ciao . .
Kingspin: Every human race, economy, people, country etc. has one or two advantage over others like we seen in United State and the people of Israel. No man is an island. Admit what you dont have and extend hands to people that have them. China has a long histroy of coping into other invention to drive. Yet America a world power still need China somewhere. For the fact, the Igbo remain the most business and greatest industrial mind people in Nigeria aka entrepreneurs. The strength and the presence of their hardworks are visible across Nigeria, in every state and abroad. So it should be easy for other people to discover and work on their natural abilities, then going about picking on other people's potentials. Work more to develop your strength and that area of ur weakness is someone/people strength simple. That my stand, you cannot do your own and do mine too. Go and do what you know best. Am not here to get you any list.
Much as I respect the Igbos for their entrepreneurship,I detest hollow chest beating .one of your people started this and he has gone underground...every tribe is great...I expect some undiscerning dudes to take up my challenge without insulting ourselves and it would be an eye opener to them that the GREAT YORUBA NATION towers with all its majesty over the Igbo tribe...wow..it is even an insult to compare...I am talking about then and now...I am sorry, each tribe is great and we compliment one another...
chuna1985: All I see is a man who has been living in s waste for his whole life.
We don't come to your region because it is too inferior to our tastes...we go to USA,Japan,Russia...we are the largest black community in Britain...we travel all over the world but would not largely go to your barbarian region...you can cry your vampire eyes out...you are all over the South West here.. Your RONDON..you are here more than anywhere in the world as Yorubas are in the UK more than anywhere in the world...can you spot the difference??
Kingspin: Is it by the multinational companies or the local grew industries. What does the West has that is coming down to South south, South East and the rest of country?
If you don't know where to start, let me help you...Yorubas were civilised centuries before your barbarian projenitors ever smelt civilisation...still loading...he he he...Igbos comparing themselves to their masters...we are going to go into all sectors o...technology, education, politics, poverty etc...up to date and nobody should derail this thread o...
new2020: Who is your competitor? Do you think Igbos are your mate? This is the insult Igbos receive for being in one Nigeria. Many Yorubas for some stu$pid reason see Igbos as competitors. This explains why they envy and hate at any success of Igbos. The Irony of it is Igbos don't consider Yorubas by any stretch as a competitor at all. Igbos compete only amongst themselves or v worst case with whites.
Can you name some of the achievements of the Igbos and I will name some by the Yorubas and then we would know who is competing with who...if you are not in the know, another Igbo dude can help you...oya let's zoom...you are not even up to Yorubas Sandals...
new2020: Say that again to hypocritical yoruba people...the fathers and mothers of hate.
I congratulate Ms Oteh..more grease to your elbow ma...but why are we given no fiddle at all(no second fiddle, no third, no fourth but errand personnel,WB has 2 executive VPs,3 senior VPs...no Nigerians here...but given 1 VP slot out of 24 VPs who are nothing but glorified boy boy, well we thank God... sha)thank God for the Yorubas like Prof Ajibola, first Nigerian to head the UNO,Prof Wole Soyinka, first African to get the most apex laurel in Literature,Dr Akinwunmi, first Nigerian to head the AfDB,Chief Obasanjo, first Nigerian to lead heads of govts of the world,Mrs Alakija, first woman to lead the black women as the richest in the world, etc...these NIGERIANS who are all Yorubas, don't just go for crumbs...it beats me mehn...
DikeOha882: Congrats to Ugo Abia and to Ndi Igbo at large,we are not local champion,we play at the global stage.
Don't mind those world bank things..always making us second fiddles but thanks to Dr Akinwunmi.. the OGA at the apex level of AFDB and Chief Obasanjo, leading world leaders presently...Kudos to Nigerians that are making us proud...
ILIDEFI: U're an irrational tribalist, so joining issues with you is a waste of my precious time. Guy, zoom off!
I think you are an elderly person and as you know Yorubas respect their elders a lot unless they go against the norms of respect..I would have told you to shoo off because you don't seem to have stomach for superior arguments not based on grandeur illusions and dreams....ciao...I enjoyed discussing with you...God bless...
ILIDEFI: Hahahahaha. This guy is not just serious. ...lead attainment lie cooked up by Jonathan? Really? So Jonathan was collating statistics for JAMB, WAEC, and NECO for the past 4 years, yet his state never took the first position? My guy, south West is living on past glory educationally. Accept it or reject it.
Obasanjo is just a cochairman of the association of past heads of government. I don't know how you interpret it as ruling the world. Can you tell me any major international/world decision binding on nations of the world that you heard was taken by the association of past heads of government? Was Diezani not OPEC president? Yet she's running helter-skelter over Buhari's probe. Moreover, Obj was given that position as a way to give a little more relevance to Africa. It's not because he was an exceptional president. If it's about true African leadership, then Mandela would have handled the post when he was alive.
As for South West having the best indices of development, it's just about Lagos I can boldly tell you. The presence of Lagos (which even has more non-Yorubas altogether than Yorubas) in the south West boosts the indices of the south West. Taking Lagos apart and matching the 5 south East states with the rest 5 south West states, I can boldly tell you that an average south Easterner lives way above poverty line compared to south westerners. Compare the quality of houses found in Igbo communities to the ones in Yoruba communities. At least I know some threads have been created in the past on NL about such.
I am sorry but you seem to be sounding like a broken record or are you the chair of NPC to know that non indigenes are more than the indigenes who have almost all the streets, bus stops etc ,named after them and they are mostly the landlords of your shops,houses,etc...at least there are seven Yorubas to one non indigene in Lagos..Have you ever wondered why there are a lot of Pakistanis or even Yorubas in UK?Not just doing business but living there, that is what the numerous Igbos migrating to the South West saw...relative peace, less poverty as confirmed by UNDP even minus Lagos,South West still leads...one of your people did the analysis...but the fact is you can't take away Lagos from the South West just like Port Harcourt can not be taken away from the South south and for your information, the South West has been a pacesetter in development in Nigeria and just like what UK is doing to the Pakistanis, the Igbos are using the South West to reduce their poverty level which is second only to the North according to UNDP...about the education thing,if you can disprove that the Igbos do not have up to half of the lawyers, doctors, professors etc that the Yorubas have, then you are game...As per that great personality,The Enigmatic Enigma, The Ebora of Owu,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who is threading where no other being in Nigeria has ever threaded...with heads of governments of the world, not as member but a leader... As bad as Hitler was..he would always make the world remember Germany so as Obasanjo would make the world remember Nigeria. That man is a cynosure of every leader in the world... accept or reject it....
