Shekstatari:
I don't know why students are so Obsessed about the so called "prestigious" Universities when it comes to studying MBBS/BDS. I remember Lomaxx graduated from Uniuyo...the 'less' admired University in terms of Medicine, but the guy is a "geek" when it comes to the medical field.
MBBS in UI, UNILORIN, UNILAG, UNIBEN et al is the same in UDUSOK, ABU, UNIMAID, UNIPORT et al.
At the end they're all called Doctors. The making of a "GOOD DOC" is not proportional to the school, but to the student!
I'd disagree with you bro . . some schools have better medical facilities than the other, such school provides an enabling environment for the students making their reading less tasking and some schools also have more cadavers than the other . . theoretical knowledge and clinical practice differs from each other.
EducationRe: A Thread For Medical Rehabilitation ( Physiotherapy) Students by RoastedCorn(m):
beauld:
Physiotherapy involves the use of PHYSICAL resources to treat and rehabilitate patients. Physical resources such as heat, cold, laser, light (electro-magnetic waves), electric currrent, ultra-sound, water, wax, force, manipulation, touch, exercise etc.

Physiotherapy is Physical Medicine.

It is a massive Profession in health care...that is very interesting and lucrative.
As a Physiotherapist you can specialise in Pediatrics, Sports, Orthopedics, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Geriartry etc.

Physiotherapists DIAGNOSE patients o! They are not subordinates to other professions O! They are independent, kinda like dentistry and Optometry.
You can get a degree such as Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT)...from Nigeria. Google how! (You need plenty of hardwork..tho)
My younger brother is a Doctor of Physiotherapy..and am so proud of him! Patients love how he helps them recover quickly.
Hope this helped? Cheers.
physiotherapy is not like dentistry and optometry . . people over the years have always compared dentistry to optometry without knowing its full entirety.

1. Dentistry is a 6 year course, the only course that's a medical specialty(like doing the whole of medicine then specializing in teeth),Dentists are to be compared with opthalmologists not optometrists.

2. the salary scale for doctors(medicine and dentistry) in Nigeria is called CONMESS which is slightly higher than other health care professionals like optometrists, Physiotherapists,Radiographers,Medical lab scientists and the rest that operate on CONHESS.

3. optometrist are only confused with opthalmologists and dentist because they also answer the title "Dr." but optometrists only make glasses for people with eye defect, its is only an opthalmologist (a medical doctor that specializes in the eye) that can perform surgery on the eye.

4. you mentioned something about physiotherapists specializing in paediatrics, orthopeadics ,neurology e.t.c ,well that's not really true ,I get your point though but you would confuse an average Nigerian. Physiotherapists only specialize in a medical specialty's therapy. for example, a doctor will specialize in paediatrics but a physiotherapist would specialize in pediatric therapy, a physiotherapist can also specialize in dental therapy, a doctor will specialize in orthopaedics but a physiotherapist would specialize in orthopaedic therapy (the specialty that makes most Nigerians think that physiotherapy is just the massage of body parts not knowing there is more to it). specialization in medicine and dentistry takes up to 5-8 years but that of physiotherapy is 3-4 years(not very sure though).

5. DPT is doctor of physiotherapy, currently its only offered by few countries as a 6 year degree ,in Nigeria it is after the completion of your BPT that you can be given a DPT which is after you specialize in an aspect of physiotherapy.

6. there are also consultant physiotherapists too but they don't receive same range of salary as their medical and dental consultants.

i'm not trying to place any course above the other but making valid points and facts . . hope this helps

Travails of a young Nigerian medical student

It all started with readers are leaders,
Well, that may be true but our parents should have given exceptions,
They should have helped us developed the other aspects of our lives we didn't know exists,
Instead they cajoled us into this world of lies.

They told us medicine is secured,
Once you graduate immediately you get a job,
So most of us entered medical school for the ego and money,
One is already lost and the other is slowly following suit.

Through Topping classes in secondary school,
Through the rigour of passing WAEC and jamb,
Not leaving out post-utme for those of us that wrote,
We entered medical, the so much hyped medical school.

100level was normal, just like secondary school days,
200level hunted us with Anatomy,
It stung us with physiology,
And competed with mosquitoes in making us sleepless with medical biochemistry.

Could life be any harder,
Anatomy invaded our vocabulary with medial, lateral, superior, inferior just to mention a few,
Physiology proliferated out tongue with -ilia, -penia, syndromes, -esia ,-cytosis and so on,
And of course medical biochemistry wasn't left out,it stuck to our oral cavity with acetylCoA, -glcerates, phosphates and so on.

Classes everyday,
Practicals following closely ending in the evenings,
The only time we have for ourselves being in the night when other students are sleeping,
And amidst all these every time I want to wear my shoe, the number on it reminds me of my test scores,
Most of us haven't failed any exam before,
Most of us have so much confidence in our intelligence,
But the orientation of a Nigerian medical school is different,
In your intelligence You might fail.

The Nigerian medical education system is built in a way to frustrate its students,
To undermine the students efforts,
A lecturer once told us that the lecturer is not happy if any of his students fail,
But yet he'd mark their exam and only 50% would pass,
But yet if the failed students were studying in Germany they'd pass the same exam,
Our exams are harder than that of our colleagues abroad,
Yet their medical system and school is better than ours.

Our social life is reduced to zilch,
Keith Moore hunts us in our dreams,
Guyton is our alarm clock, it wakes us up if we try to sleep longer than normal,
Our phones are so boring only filled with plethora of medical apps and textbooks,
We're in school while other students are having semester and sessional breaks,
Christmas is bae, because that is when we get to see all our friends medical school forcefully took away our closeness.

But in all these,we still strive to be the best,
We still struggle to read every time we imagine ourselves in that white coat,
Amidst all the failed tests and frustration we still persevere,
This might be me being melancholic yes,
But this is the typical story of a young Nigerian medical student.

An open letter to the university of Benin Medical and Dental school

Greetings to the university Vice-chancellor
- Professor F.F.O Orumwense
To the Provost of the college of medical sciences
- Professor Vincent Iyawe
To the Dean of school of Dentistry
- Professor O. Obuekwe,
To the Dean of school of medicine
-Professor moses . I . momoh
And all protocols duely observed.

Over the years seniors had kept quiet on this issue for fear of the unknown but I guess it is high time someone spoke on this issues

Length

Its no news that UNIBEN medical and dental school is 8 years, yes its 8 years.
Namely
100 level - first year
200 level - 2nd year
300 level(called MB class for students in both departments)-3rd year
New 400 level - ( called oral Biology or OralB class for those in Dentistry)- 4th year
Old 400level -( generally called Pathology and pharmacology class or path/pharm class for both departments) - 5th year
500 level - (called medicine and surgery class or med/surg class for those In dentistry and O and G class for those in medicine)- 6th year
New 600level - 7th year
Old 600level - 8th year,

This is very very bad,in unilorin for example and even some state schools whose reputation isn't up to half of Uniben's , they spend 1 year in 400level, I really do not see the need why UNIBEN would spend 2 years in 400level, when I'm in 300level,I'll graduate same time with an 100level student in UNICAL. And at the end we both get same certificate regardless of the rigours we individually went through in medical school.
Please sirs, we'll like if you'd rectify this quickly because during your days, you spent 6years, the 8 years we spend is just a waste of 2 years of our lives.

Difficulty

With deep sincerity, UNIBEN medical and dental school is one of the hardest in Nigeria, Especially the dental school ,this year only 66 medical students and 8 dental students were inducted out of 25 initially admitted in 100level. Its so alarming and unrealistic, after Spending 8 years ,only 8 out of 30something will now graduate, while in schools like U.I that spend 6 years, 22 graduated out of 35 initially admitted in 100level , does it mean they are smarter than us? Are we that dull?, why is there little failure in other medical schools, even schools with embarrassing teaching hospitals are recording more success than us. A year in UNILAG 13 students got distinction in anatomy but that same year in UNIBEN, only one student got distinction, does it mean UNILAG students are smarter than us?, please we need to reduce these things, why make it hard for no reason. Before Pius got distinction in pathology in 2013, the last time someone got was in the 90's ,so over 2 decades nobody is brilliant enough to have distinction in it?. . this is very bad and its not telling well on UNIBEN college of medical sciences and UNIBEN at large, a school that controls so much respect as UNIBEN shouldn't be lagging in issues such as these.
I guess my pen will stop Dancing now.

Thanks

Your student,

Oke is a thief and desperado who joined the APC because of his inordinate ambition. The likes of Bola Ilori are disgruntled elements who is a nobody in the politics of Ondo state. Executive Secretary in Alimosho in Lagos, SA Environment in Osun, now he is making noise in my state. He should just keep quiet, pack his bag and join his desperate Oke in AD- a dead party. I have said it that many of these defectors to APC will leave once they don't get what they want. Oke has just proved me right
Oke was cheated in the primary election, he challenged, a re-run was called, but the top men in the party on surely collecting bribe cancelled the courts rule of re-run.

My brother ,if it was you, won't you leave the party for a place you would be the flagbearer without restraint

and let me tell you, labour party was a dead party before Mimiko registered under them and won the governor in power, so nothing is impossible

my people abeg ,we are pretty sure that neither PDP nor APC can take us to the promise land as we are already seeing, the Governor in power, Mimiko has not paid salaries for months and if the governor-elect comes from PDP ,he might surely continue in that manner or may never pay the unpaid salaries claiming it was not owed during his reign

And as for the APC, the national economic quagmire and recession speaks for itself

Now the AD, not much can be said about it but this was Awolowo's party.

The AD is the one only neutral here, my people , I'll advice we collectively vote for the AD as we are tired of this propagandists and looters
PoliticsRe: Ondo Governorship Election: Another Crisis Looms In APC Over Deputy Gov. Slot by RoastedCorn(m): 7:48am On Oct 03, 2016
The list of the delegates for the primary election
was manipulated by akeredolu hours before the
election, the list used was different from the one
buhari presented them, about 200 names of other
delegats were removed and filled with
Akeredolu's illegal delegates.

Olusegun Abraham didn't know this ,that was
why he congratulated Akeredolu immediately
after his win ,until he later got to know, that was
why he together with ,borrifice and Olusola oke
called for the cancellation of the election
After an APC panel was set to look at the
matter, upon investigation, they found out that
the election was manipulated and called for a re-
run.

But maybe Akeredolu has bribed Oyegun, he
declared that there will be no re-run election
instead, insisted that Akeredolu become the flag-
bearer.

This injustice has prompted Oke to defect to a
neutral party, the AD.

And personally, it should be a welcome
development, its high time we started giving
chances to the small political parties in Nigeria
rather than the APC and PDP who has looted and
is still looting our funds for years now.

Olusola Oke for governor
PoliticsOndo Election : APC Guber Aspirant, Oke Defects To AD by RoastedCorn(op): 9:30pm On Oct 02, 2016
Ahead of the November 26 governorship election
in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, one of the
aggrieved governorship aspirants of the All
Progressives Congress ( APC ) , yesterday
decamped to Alliance for Democracy ( AD ) .
Oke, who polled 576 votes after the September 3
gubernatorial primaries of the APC , said he
dumped the party because of injustice .
His defection to the AD ends weeks of
speculation about his next political move . It also
marked the climax of the crisis rocking the APC
over its controversial governorship primary that
produced Chief Oluwarotimi Akeredolu ( SAN ) as
the winner of the exercise .
It would be recalled that the National Chairman
of APC , Chief John Odigie -Oyegun overruled the
decision of the National Working Committee
( NWC) that called for fresh primary following
irregularities detected by the Appeal Committee
that probed the post - primary crisis.
Mr. Oyegun ’ s decision to unilaterally over - ride
the party ’ s NWC pitched him against a National
Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , who
called for his resignation .
Addressing crowd of supporters at his Ijapo
estate residence in Akure , the state capital
yesterday, Mr. Oke said since the leadership of
the party had failed to do justice to the
irregularities, he decided to ‘ step aside’ from
APC in order realise his aspiration under the AD .
Oke, who was the former National Legal Adviser
of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP , described
APC as a good party but lamented it had been
hijacked by some cabals.
According to him, it was illogical and wrong for
Oyegun to jettison the verdict of the majority
members of the NWC when it was cleared the
shadow election was allegedly manipulated in
favour of the governorship candidate , Rotimi
Akeredolu ( SAN ) .
Oke noted that many APC stakeholders including
Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku
Abubakar , had condemned the NWC , calling for
cancellation of the exercise , which was not
addressed .
The legal practitioner assured his supporters that
by God ’ s grace, he would actualise his dream on
the platform of the AD .
