Politics / Re: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by roflmao: 4:38pm On Mar 29, 2006
Thanks for that romano. The third point is the one that caught my attention and I did a quick search on it and here is something remarkable about the Sierra Leone Special Court:

"Following the successful completion of negotiations with the Government of Sierra Leone, on October 4, 2000, Secretary-General Kofi Annan issued his report to the Security Council on the Special Court for Sierra Leone. (2) As specified in the Agreement between the United Nations and Sierra Leone, (3) the Special Court would differ from the ICTY and ICTR in several notable respects. First, unlike the ICTY and ICTR, which were established by Chapter VII Resolution of the Security Council, the Special Court is a treaty-based court established by the Agreement between the United Nations and Sierra Leone. As a consequence, while it has primacy over domestic prosecutions in Sierra Leone and can issue binding orders to the government of Sierra Leone, the Special Court lacks the power of the ICTY and ICTR to assert primacy over national courts of third States or to order the surrender of an accused located in any third State. This is not expected to hinder the Court's operation since most of the suspected perpetrators are now in custody in Sierra Leone."

That clearly justifies Obansanjo's actions. Mrs. Sirleaf must have known this so I presume, and like romano said, she just trying to avert the attention and pressure to Nigeria by asking Nigeria to give Taylor to Sierra Leone. I hope all the big-mouthers can shut up now that Obasanjo has done what he said and quite rightly should do. Taylor's handover to Sierra Leone ain't Nigeria's responsibility but Liberia's. Let them clean their own shyt hopefully with their big brother, US help!

Politics / Re: Has Charles Taylor Escaped? by roflmao: 10:46am On Mar 29, 2006
GL, will you marry me? grin

This is exactly what I've been saying. I made this point when I responded to the BBC webpage on the topic but my opinion wasn't posted but those calling for Taylor's head and crucifying Nigeria were boldly written.

Nobody is saying Taylor is a good man but the point is Liberia has bigger fishes to fry than worry about a man well away from their shores. Like GL said Mrs Sirleaf's position was this inintially but her governmnent has finally succumbed to this unnecessary international pressure.

When Liberia was being torned apart by the War their so called big brother US didn't come to their rescue. They had bigger fishes to fry too ib Afghanistan and Iraq. The gimmick called UN didn't do shyt. Obasanjo negotiated the deal which persuaded Taylor to step down. It'll be immoral to now turn around and give him to Seirra Leone. Obasanjo has done the best he could by agreeing to hand him over to an elected Liberian government. It's the responsibilty of Liberia to hand him over to the court in Seirra Leone. if they so wish.

As I've benn saying Democracies across Africa are nascent. There's no point trying to run before you walk. You need a well established democracy with a good legal, police, and prison system plus a stable society to attempt to critical trial such a this. Not doing so will only jeopardise the emerging democracy in Liberia and may even return the country back to where it was. All you need to look at in the Saddam trial in Iraq which is even more convincing that this but yet the case is proving to be a joke.

Slobodan Milosevic's is another example. I, personally, believe the guy was clapped! Why? Because cases like these are difficult to try even in a stable environment as Europe. You only need to follw the case to see what was gonna happen. The international community knew it would be hard to get a derserved judgement and that would deem the case a publicity stunt by these UN gimmicks. So they clapped the guy simple as that. At least no futher questions would be asked if the judgement was right or not.

If democracies across Africa is allowed mature and society develops then trying criminals succesfully within a trusted legal framework would be the norm. Taylor and his counterparts will face the music eventually. "You can only run for so long before things catch up with you".

So please let's stop this idea of trying to prove that we have a legal establishment worthy of assuring our confidence. We don't. The only way to get there is to take one step at a time and work towards building a stable society that can give us that.

ROFLMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This homie kimba got me cracking up right here, LOL!!!

First I implore you to get acquainted to the use slangs,, "son". I ain't your father kid and you prolly older than my ass anyway!

You deny I didnt' get @ ur emotions but one only need to look at your reply to my previous post to see where we both @. I'm glad people Jakumo know what time it is. Ya'll funny getting all DEFENSIVE and fired up over this. I'm just stating what I observed and as much as I've tried not get at people like yourself if you still got fired up over it well, tough!

I repeat "My whole point is that THERE ARE PARENTS WHO TRY NOT TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN THEIR OWN LOCAL LANGUAGE for absurd and lame reasons". That clears anybody who don't speak his or her local language due to alienation or lack of exposure. All you gotta do is look within yourself whether you ACTUALLY AND SINCERELY WANTED to learn your language yourself but wasn't able to.

I ain't even gonna touch all 'em other rambles of yours cos they just make me LOL!!! And like it or not that kid Jakumo already spoke the Truth for ya'll to see. I'm sticking to my gun. Whether ya'll agree or disagree ain't don't bother me. What you eat don't make me shyt.
Culture / Re: Yorubas In Nigeria That Can't Speak Yoruba by roflmao: 10:19pm On Mar 27, 2006
ROFLMAO @ this confused homie kimba ya'll,

The only reason for your all DEFENSIVE approach is because you do not speak your mother's tongue and I'm glad I touched your emotions real bad. What kind of PATRIOT wouldn't speak his local language? You got some sensible comments but your understanding is flawed and confused big time son. And you asking me to respond to post in my language is just a sign of how confused you are. This is a public forum where Nigerians(with over 250 local languages!) and non-nigerians engage. This ain't an "Afenifere" or "Oduduwa" forum kid so don't get it twisted homie!

My whole point is that THERE ARE PARENTS WHO TRY NOT TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN THEIR OWN LOCAL LANGUAGE for absurd and lame reasons. And if you go through my comments you'd see that your arguments of someone not growing up where yoruba is spoken is totally irrelevant! I told you I 'm in the UK and I'm yet to come across a British born and bred Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Nepalese that don't speak his or her parents language. English is the language spoken in the UK isn't it? So how come these guys still manage to speak their parents' language? Simple. because their PARENTS made sure they did so by communicating with them in their own local language at home. FaithSight grew up in London right? Ask her if she has any friend of Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Nepalese origin that doesn't speak their parent's language.

I ain't blaming kids who don't speak their language because some never had the opportunity to learn it because their parent/guardian, whose responsibility it is that they understand local languages, have alienated them from it.

I'll give you an example: I have a of friend of Yoruba origin who grew up and lived in Ivory Coast and studied in Ghana. This guy not only understand and speak the Ivorians' local language, but also French, Ghana local language, English and surprise surprise, Yoruba! And about you even arguing about African culture in the West I ain't even going to go there with you because u obviously don't know what you rambling about homie.

While communication is irrespective of language used doesn that mean you should promote English while you completely ignore yours? China was colonised by Britain just like Nigeria but English ain't their official language but Cantonese/Mandarin. Ask any language specialist in the world and he'll tell you the worlds' language should be preserved as much as possible. Language is one of the easiet things to learn. All you need do is communicate in it as much as you can whenever possible. Why our people are contributing to the detriment of thier most valuable asset is beyond me!
Culture / Re: Yorubas In Nigeria That Can't Speak Yoruba by roflmao: 5:41pm On Mar 27, 2006
Yep there are ppl in Nigeria who can't speak their language. That's the pathetic state our society is. People are ashamed of their culture and language and relentlessly seek way to become "oyinbo" as much they can so their friends and neighbours can say they're cool!

I'm glad I'm able to see how our people are sooooo ashamed of being African. Come to the West and black man's African culture is non-existent. But you see "oyinbos" and even these pathetic Africans consuming other cultures like the Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, that were brought here by their citizens who practise their culture proudly.

If you ever come to the UK you'll see the how many britons born and bred here are of Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Nepalese origin with some into 3rd generations or more. But I've never met one that doesn't speak let alone not understand her parents tongue! They eat their food, speak their language in private and public wherever and whenever they can in presence or absence of oyinbos, and have their community well represented in the society.

I mean if you already see children living in Nigeria but unable to speak the local language because their parent want them to be "oyinbo", I can only SMH in pity!

Fashion / Re: Would You Get A Tattoo? by roflmao: 12:44am On Mar 25, 2006
Tattoos is damn sure our shyt! We own that shyt together with males wearing earring, beads and lots of them shyt these western cats do nowadays. The difference is the reason behind these kind of stuff. Our fathers in the old days did them usually for family tradition, heritage or position held within the village. But the West has taken it and turned it into fashion and other sorts of meaningless(from my point of view) ideas. Funny thing is when the europeans came to Africa and saw us these stuffs they called us barbaric but hundreds of years later they are doing it to look 'cooool'. Kinda makes me wonder exactly who's advanced and who isn't?

I personally wouldn't get one for fashion or just to look 'cool'. My grandma's got a few on her body and so does her family members. If I'm asked to get one for that reason then I may otherwise heeeell naw! But that's where I stand. I don't generally do stuffs like that for no damn good reason.

Ok I been reading this forum for a while now and just registered to help ya'll to the best I can. Here's the deal though:

I've an original FC4 installation DVD and 5 original Ubuntu installation CD package(each package = 1 DVD + 1 Live CD). I'm pretty much willing to give away 4 of the Ubuntus and can burn the FC4 for who ever wishes to have.

From my guessing there quite a mix of people at different countries on here but most are in Nigeria. Prob is I'm in the UK and I'm not sure if posting to Nigeria will ever succeed(I've posted thrice and never delivered!) but we can only hope it does

I've tried both o'em but I currently run Ubuntu on my laptop cos it's dope as, (can I swear on here?). My main reason though is that my home internet connection is wireless and FC4 sucked at that but Ethernet was aight when I trie though. Cos I'm kinda an intermediate user I needed the internet to get help online to solve problems and be more confident so I'd to dump FC4 but Ubuntu's wireless was flawless when I installed it.

So there you have it. If u wanna get ur hand on it then get @ me real quick before I dish 'em all out
