RomanceNigerian Passport For Non-nigerian Spouse. by Roforofo(op): 12:40am On Jan 16, 2010
Hi. Is there anyone who has been able to get a Nigerian passport for a non-Nigerian spouse abroad. I have tried contacting the Naija embassy in London but they are pretty useless and will not pick their phones or reply emails. I would like advice from people who have done this abroad preferably. Also can it be done in Nigeria legally? I have looked on the Nigeria Immigration Service website but can't find any info. Thanks to all who can help.

I am sure our government officials are only annoyed because it will make US visas harder for them and their families. These useless buffoons who rule us and loot the country while sending all their ill gotten wealth to foreign banks in the Western world. These thieves who maltreat and keep their citizens in poverty yet send their children to school ABROAD, go ABROAD for all their medical check ups and now their latest craze is to DIE ABROAD!!! huh
SportsRe: Gunmen Open Fire On Togo Footballers In Angola by Roforofo(m): 8:03pm On Jan 09, 2010
@ Mayowaak. My point remains that the Angolan government is useless and obviously cannot protect it's citizens or visitors. It is only in Africa that this kind of murderous and barbaric act will happen and the government response will be "WE TOLD THEM TO TRAVEL BY PLANE"!!! shocked Like I have said repeatedly most of our governments in Africa are useless and don't give a damn about their citizens. If the Togo team had been attacked by gunmen in Europe, America or Australia our useless governments would be screaming "RACISM", yet rather than condemn the murderers they are blaming the Togolese team for not travelling by plane!!! Incredible!!! shocked These innocent footballers were simply trying to provide HAPPINESS and JOY to millions of ordinary Africans and football lovers globally yet a useless government in an unstable country allowed their so called rebels to murder innocent people. This compettition should not have been held in what is now obvious to everyone to be an extremely dangerous and unstable country a.k.a (Pakistan in Africa)

MAYOWAAK:
African Cup of Nations - Confusion over Togo death tollConfusion reigned following the deadly gun attack on the Togo national team's bus, with conflicting reports over the fate of goalkeeper Kodjovi Obilale.
There had been widespread reports that Obilale had died after being shot in the chest and stomach in the brutal ambush on the Togo squad as they travelled to the African Cup of Nations, bringing the death toll from the attack to four.

Two members of Togo's national team delegation and a driver also died following an ambush on the team's bus as it travelled to the African Cup of Nations.

Striker Jonathan Ayite told RMC radio: "Yes, he is dead, as well as our assistant coach (Amalete Abalo) and our press officer (Stanislas Ocloo). All three are dead."

My point remains that they should not have allowed this competition in such a dangerous and unsafe African country. There are many other countries in Africa which are more stable and whose citizens despite their differences will not plan to MURDER innocent footballers who are simply trying to bring JOY and HAPPINESS to millions of us ordinary Africans. Angola's government is a useless joke. Like I said before if na for Europe, America or Australia dem shoot at Togolese team bus na so so screams and shouts of "RACISM" we go dey hear!!! huh

However, a statement from his club, French team GSI Pontivy, read: "According to news given by coach Alain Le Dour and GSI Pontivy president Philippe Le Mestre, Kodjovi Obilale is not dead, despite the news reported on the internet, radio and television, and has been moved to South Africa."

Friday's attack, in which seven others were injured, took place in Cabinda, a province where guerrillas have fought a secession campaign for decades.

"We lost the assistant coach and the press officer," said Messan Attelou, chief spokesman for Togo's federation.

Reflecting the uncertainty, Togo player Guillaume Brenner told RMC : "We've heard everything. That he is dead, that he was transported to south Africa. We don't know exactly. But we decided to go home anyway."

However, there is also confusion over Togo's participation in the tournament. Several players have said they had withdrawn, and captain Emmanuel Adebayor has flown out of Angola, yet officials insist no official decision has been made.

Attelou said a decision would be made after consultation with players, while an Angolan government source said they had agreed to remain in the competition.

However, Adebayor's club Manchester City said the striker had already returned home and Togo had withdrawn - a scenario that appears inevitable even if it has not been officially announced.

The attack came five months before neighbouring South Africa hosts the World Cup, the first African nation to hold the world's biggest single sport event.

Virgilio Santos, an official with the African Cup of Nations local organising committee COCAN, said teams had been told explicitly not to travel to the tournament by road."We asked that all delegations inform us when they would arrive and provide the passport number of their players," he told the sports weekly A Bola.

"Togo was the only team not to respond and did not inform COCAN it was coming by bus , The rules are clear: No team should travel by bus. I don't know what led them to do this." The Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda claimed responsibility for the attack.

Cabinda, the scene of attacks by separatists even after Angola's 27-year civil war ended in 2002, is responsible for half of oil production in Angola, which rivals Nigeria as Africa's biggest producer.

The Togo team bus, travelling from its training ground in the Republic of Congo, had just entered the enclave, geographically cut off from the rest of Angola, when it came under heavy gunfire.

A crisis meeting was expected to take place in the Angolan capital Luanda between local officials and the Confederation of African Football over tournament security.

Former Togo coach Otto Pfister said the assault would cast a shadow over the World Cup.

"This is a real blow for Africa. It will obviously be linked directly with the World Cup now," he told the German sports news agency SID.

"And it will give the critics a boost."

South Africa has spent at least 13 billion rand (£1.2bn) on new stadiums and infrastructure for the World Cup.

Rich Mkhondo, chief spokesman for the World Cup organising committee, said the attack had no relevance to the World Cup.

"We remain confident that everyone coming to South Africa will have a safe and secure experience in our country," he said.

South African President Jacob Zuma will attend Sunday's opening ceremony despite the attack, his spokesman said. CAF has said the Nations Cup, which ends on January 31, will go ahead and the Angolan government said all teams would still take part.

There has been no official suggestion that matches will be pulled from Cabinda, wedged between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo and due to host seven matches.

The first games in Cabinda are due to be played on Monday, with Togo taking on Ghana and Ivory Coast facing Burkina Faso.

Ivory Coast general manager Kaba Kone said: "We have not considered leaving the tournament. Organisers and CAF must improve safety. The party is not ruined, we can still have a great party if safety is guaranteed. We did not come here to play with death but to play football."

The FLEC was not thought to be a serious risk in Cabinda, despite claiming to have kidnapped a Chinese oil worker and killed government soldiers last year.

In December, Angolan minister without portfolio Antonio Bento Bembe, a former FLEC leader, dismissed the claims and said the group no longer existed.Source:Reuters

This young wannabe terrorist is a disgrace to his family, friends and country. I do not believe in the death penalty but I don't give a damn that he is Nigerian, I hope America locks him up for life and he spends the rest of his days in prison. When he was setting fire to his useless bomb concoction did he give a DAMN about the innocent children, women or men on that plane who I might add were from all races, nationalities and religions (including ISLAM)?? Is it now a crime to innocently buy an ordinary plane ticket without these types of psychopaths trying to blow you out of the skyhuh?? shocked shocked
SportsRe: Gunmen Open Fire On Togo Footballers In Angola by Roforofo(m): 6:26pm On Jan 09, 2010
Angola's government is a joke. Don't even know why CAF agreed to host the competition there. The useless government instead of admitting their utter security failure are blaming the Togo team for not going by plane instead!! huh Why has the useless African Union not condemned this barbaric and sadistic act against innocent sportsmen simply trying to bring joy and pride to ordinary citizens of our motherland Africa? I guess most of the so called leaders in Africa got into power directly or indirectly through such senseless violence. If na for Europe or America dem attack Togolese team, na so so "RACISM" we go dey hear but since na for Africa it is a daefening silence from our useless and corrupt leaders! angry angry

PoliticsRe: American Ridicules Lagos From The Air by Roforofo(m): 5:53pm On Jan 04, 2010
The guy is not lying. Lagos is a hell hole for most of it's inhabitants. Yes there are nice parts with parks and greenery and nice houses with big gardens, swimming pools etc but these are for the wealthy minority. The vast majority of ordinary Nigerians in Lagos live in very poor conditions and there is nothing shameful about acknowledging the truth. It is only when we accept the truth that change can start to occur.(e.g Fashola's beautification projects, installation of traffic lights, clearing of refuse from the roads, stopping indiscriminate cutting of trees etc). There is no point constantly getting angry when a bad word is said about our country. Like Fela said on video in his documentary "Music is the Weapon of the Future" which was filmed many years ago, "our rulers should stop deceiving the people and comparing Nigeria to America or the Europe, make we face ourselves for Africa, things our bad in our own country, I want my people to know that as citizens of Nigeria, if you feel bad about it do something about it"
CultureRe: Declining Interest In Nigerian Culture! What Is Responsible? by Roforofo(m): 12:43pm On Dec 30, 2009
George_D:
there are other lands living in poverty who still won't sell their culture like we are doing here.
The difference is that the other lands are poor countries. It is a different matter if your country is poor. Nigeria is NOT a poor country but our rulers ensure that our people continue to suffer and smile. While ordinary people's children die of malaria government officials fly abroad for common catarrh! Look around the world and observe countries whose citizens engage in MASS migration (not low level migration), you will find that they are either escaping wars, natural disaster, abject poverty or hopelessness. In Nigeria it is the last two most people are leaving for. Like I have said already when a country does not invest in i's citizens or give a damn about it's citizens inevitably the culture of that country will die and be overtaken by the culture of MONEY. It has been going on in Nigeria for a long time and it will not stop until our government starts to care for and respect our people. We are treated like rubbish all over the world and it is because people know that the so called Nigerian government does not care about it's people and are only interested in looting and sending their stolen money ABROAD, buying mansions ABROAD, sending their kids to the most expensive schools and universities ABROAD, going for medical treatment ABROAD and now the latest fashion is to DIE ABROAD shocked. So please don't confuse issues about preserving culture. Ordinary Nigerians are not stupid, if our culture is so great why do our rulers and people in power do everything ABROAD?
CultureRe: Declining Interest In Nigerian Culture! What Is Responsible? by Roforofo(m): 2:11am On Dec 30, 2009
When you have millions of Nigerians living in poverty, without healthcare, no jobs, no housing, no education for your kids, no security, no NEPA, no bloody nothing huh, do you seriously expect people to care about preserving "Nigerian culture". When the government of our country does not give a damn about it's own people then the culture of the country will eventually die. Your people are your culture! undecided

This is a simple website used by airlines and it tells you the visa requirements for ALL nationalities. Simply plug in your nationality, country of residence, destination and transit country. It is updated regularly but I STRONGLY ADVISE you confirm any information you get on this website with the country's embassy or consulate. Hello roforofo, i made a suggestion but dat should not warrant an insult 4rm u and giving my contacts does not mean i want people sending me money.  Probably you 've not bought any property in naija b4 and if u did, do u just send money to people you 've not met b4? Its either you ask a family member to assist or u come and conclude d deal yourself. For your info one of my clients abroad is coming to naija for d new year celebration and likewise conclude a property deal we've working on for sometime now.  BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAVE LOST FAITH IN THIS COUNTRY DOES NOT MAKE EVERY NIGERIAN A 419er. Real estate is what i do for a living so i appreciate a discourse devoid of slander
Timehin. Abeg no vex. I apologize for causing offence. I just wan remind you say the thread na about fixed deposit so please if you wan advertise you property company carry your details go the property thread. Like others before me have said, when we start a topic on Nairaland dealing with a specific issue (in this case Fixed Deposit) It is very irritating and annoying when people come and start promising heaven and hell if you invest in "property, haulage, e-book, x-book, z-book, malu trading, fisheries, coal, bitumen, forex, bulk sms, graphcard, diesel etc). My point is that this thread is for those who are interested in fixed deposit. We are not looking for anything else, so please take note. Im just be like say some people dey think say dem be original hustler pass everybody, na like say two guy men come wan hustle you, but you sef as original Lagos hustler you don see the whole beginning and end of the hustle, so you sef go just dey look dem, dem sef go dey look you,  na STALEMATE my brother. Like I talk before, abeg no vex.
Me I get faith paparapa for my dear country Nigeria. If I no get faith I go trust GTB with 40,000 pounds? Nigerians are honset people but the minority of fraudster na dem dey give us bad name. Good luck with your property business. I hope you make billions.

Oboms. Thanks for an excellent post. As you have so clearly stated the point is that people have different attitudes to risks and rewards. I personally have most of my earnings and investments in the UK because I live and work here full time. I put 10 million in a GTB fixed deposit because I go back home To Naija once a year and I really do not have the time to supervise a business there. GTB has NEVER failed to pay the agreed interest and as others here have stated they are an excellent bank. Their online payment system is fantastic and I can make secure instant payments to relatives in Naija from anywhere in the world. Thanks again for your reply.

@Bamshow, Tonjoan, Whatalife, Abelicious and Timmi. Thank you all for your concise, honest and practical advice to all forum users. This is what we need on Nairaland. I wish the moderators had a way of blocking out the miscreants who keep giving out their UNWANTED email addresses and phone numbers trying to SCAM people with "e-book, y-book and x-book". Thanks once again guys. Hope all our investments are safe and successful in the New Year.

Abelicious. Thank you for a honest and very sensible post. It is posts like yours that will benefit the original poster. This is what we need instead of all the scammers claiming to sell e-book, y-book and x-book!!! shocked shocked
InvestmentRe: Interest Rate On Fixed Deposit Accounts In Nigeria by Roforofo(m): 10:56pm On Dec 16, 2009
@Bamshow. Abeg no vex. Of course the majority of people on Nairaland are NOT scammers. Also the majority of our fellow Nigerians are NOT scammers. However there is a significant minority of Nigerians and faceless posters on Nairaland who are scammers. Whenever someone posts asking for advice on investments, these idiots smell money and instead of posting an honest and public reply they start talking thrash and promising 20%, 40% and 60% returns if you contact them directly. I just find it irritating that these misfits hijack threads and start dishing out their email addresses and mobile numbers hoping someone will send their hard earned cash to them. There is another thread on Nairaland listing many people who have lost money to these scammers. I have not been scammed and I certainly will never contact anyone I do not know. As I have stated earlier for those of us abroad, either do business with family and friends you trust or deal directly with a reputable company in Nigeria. The money I have fixed with GTB pays 343K ever 3months. I know some people will say I am foolish to simply fix with GTB, however GTB always pay on the date they promise and my capital is secure (No story grin). The account can also be operated fully online from abroad. They only pay 14% but abeg I want peace of mind and security with a safe and reputable bank. I be 32 year old and na Naija I go secondary school so I no be mugu. My eyes dey shine well well shocked shocked, so all stupid scammers who dey plot and plan, like Abami Eda talk, dead body get accident, yepaaa, na double wahala for una!!! grin grin
InvestmentRe: Interest Rate On Fixed Deposit Accounts In Nigeria by Roforofo(m): 11:30am On Dec 16, 2009
E-book, Y-book, Z-book, Forex book etc. All na fraud. All these fraudsters who keep giving mobile numbers and email addresses must think honest people on Nairaland are stupid. My advice to those abroad who want to have some money at home is to do business with family and friends that you trust instead of FACELESS FRAUDSTERS on Nairaland. These fools will promise heaven and hell just to make you send money to them. Me I no like long story, I no dey greedy and I no be mugu, so my 10 million dey siddon for GTB at 14%. I no need 20% from frauudsters with yahoo address. Me sef I get email address. It is mugumustchop@yahoo.com grin grin
InvestmentRe: Interest Rate On Fixed Deposit Accounts In Nigeria by Roforofo(m): 10:46am On Dec 16, 2009
Fraud and fraudsters too plenty for our country. Even for nairaland the number of people who have been defrauded by fraudsters is alarming. Like others have said, if you want your money safe with reasonable returns, fix with a reputable bank and there will be no story. What they promise is what you will get (GTB, FirstBank, Diamond, Standard Chartered etc). Better than risking your money with faceless people on Nairaland giving you yahoo addresses and promising you unbelievable returns. As my papa always dey talk, 10% of something is better than 90% of nothing. Better keep your money safe and do not be deceived by the fraudsters on this website. Shine your eyes my people. shocked shocked
