1. School Shootings

The rise of school shootings has been staggering over the past 15 years and they still leave many people ultimately wondering why? Most of the kids involved had been ridiculed one way or another by not only school mates, but also family members at home. These murderous children acquired large caliber weapons in most cases; though in others, knives, hand guns, or the like were brought in to their schools and use just as effectively. Teachers, faculty, and students loose their lives each and every time this happens. Here are just a few of the incidents:

March 24th, 1998 – Andrew Golden (11) and Mitchell Johnson (13) gunned down 15 people in the Westside Middle School Playground.

April 20th, 1999 – Eric Harris (18) and Dylan Klebold (17) Columbine High School – 13 dead, 25 injured.

November 15th, 1995 – Jamie Rouse (17) Richland School Tennessee – 4 injured, 2 dead February 2nd, 1996 – Barry Loukaitis (14) Moses Lake, Washington School – 3 dead, 2 injured

May 21st, 1998 – Kipland Kinkle (14) Springfield Oregon – 3 dead including parents, 8 wounded This list is but the tip of the ever-increasing iceberg.

2. Mary Bell

Mary Bell was convicted of strangling a young boy, Martin Brown, on May 25, 1968, the day before her 11th birthday. She was, as far as anyone knows, alone on this occasion. On July 31, 1968, Mary and her friend (Norma Bell – no relation to Mary) took part in the death, again by strangulation, of three-year-old Brian Howe. Police reports concluded that Mary Bell had gone back after killing him to carve an “N” into his stomach with a razor, this was then changed using the same razor but with a different hand to an “M”. Mary Bell also used a pair of scissors to cut off bits of Brian Howe’s hair and part of his genitals. As the girls were so young and their testimonies contradicted each other, it has never been entirely clear precisely what happened. Martin Brown’s death was initially ruled an accident as there was no evidence of foul play. Eventually, his death was linked with Brian Howe’s killing and in August, the two girls were charged with two counts of manslaughter. Mary was released in 1980 with court ordered anonymity. In 2003, the courts awarded her and her daughter anonymity for life.

3. Jesse Pomeroy

Jesse Pomeroy was 14 when he was arrested in 1874 for the horrific murder of a four-year-old boy. He was quickly labeled “The Boston Boy Fiend.” His horrible trek had begun three years earlier with the sexual torture of seven other boys. For those crimes, Pomeroy was sentenced to a children’s reform school but was released early. Not long after, he mutilated and killed a 10-year-old girl who came into his mother’s store.

A month later, he kidnapped 4-year-old Horace Mullen, took him to a swamp outside town and slashed him so savagely with a knife that he nearly decapitated him. Because of his strange appearance (he had a milky white eye) and his previous abhorrent behavior, he was under suspicion. When he was shown the body and asked if he’d done it, he responded with a nonchalant, “I suppose I did.” Then the girl was found buried in his mother’s cellar and he confessed to that murder, as well. He was convicted and sentenced to death. Following a public outcry against condemning children to death, his sentence was commuted to forty years of solitary confinement.

4. Jon Venables and Robert Thompson

Jon Venables and Robert Thompson (both 10 years old) had been stealing things all day at the shopping center — candy, a troll doll, some batteries, a can of blue paint, and other incidentals. Why did they decide to steal 2 year-old James Bulger? Was it a plot or a sudden, overwhelming compulsion? Once they had him, they didn’t know what to do with him. They could have easily discarded him, leaving him alone on the sidewalk by a shop where someone would discover the crying baby.

But Jon and Robert, like children who would rather destroy their own possessions than give them to another, murdered the little boy. James’s parents would never see their baby alive again. The video cameras at the mall caught several images of James Bulger in the hands of his killers, frozen in time. He was to be taken on a long, aimless walk, cruelly tortured along the way. James was senselessly beaten to death by his ten-year-old captors, who callously abandoned him on the railroad tracks.

5. Brenda Anne Spencer

On Monday, January 29, 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer used a rifle to wound eight children and one police officer at Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, and to kill Principal Burton Wragg and custodian Mike Suchar. The school was across the street from her house. She used the rifle she had recently been given for Christmas by her father. When the six-hour incident ended and the pretty teenager was asked why she had committed the crime, she shrugged and replied, “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day.” She also said: “I had no reason for it, and it was just a lot of fun.” “It was just like shooting ducks in a pond.” and “[The children] looked like a herd of cows standing around; it was really easy pickings.” Her lack of remorse and inability to provide a serious explanation for her actions when captured inspired the song “I Don’t Like Mondays” by The Boomtown Rats, written by socialist musician Bob Geldof. Her quote “I don’t like Mondays” also appears written on a wall in the movie, The Breakfast Club.

6. Laurie Tackett

On the morning of Saturday, January 11, 1992, Indiana resident Donn Foley and his brother Ralph decided to do some quail hunting in a nearby Jefferson County forest. Just one mile into their trip, as Donn turned onto Lemon Road, Ralph spotted a strange object just a few feet from the road in a barren soybean field. At once it appeared to them that it might be a body, but the form was so badly burned and scarred that it looked to them to be a doll. Upon closer investigation, it became painfully obvious that it was not a doll. Upon investigation, it turned out to be the body of Shanda Sharer who would later be found the victim of a jealous lesbian love triangle. Her body, prior to the murder, had been slashed and stabbed with death eventually resulting from torching. Laurie Tackett was ultimately implicated along with Toni Lawrence and Hope Rippey.

Mary Laurine (Laurie) Tackett was born on October 5, 1974 in Madison, Indiana. Her mother was a fundamentalist Pentecostal Christian and her father was a factory worker with two felony convictions and prison stints in the 1960s. Tackett claimed she was molested at least twice as a child, at ages five and twelve.

7. Willie Bosket

Willie Bosket, born on December 9, 1962, is a convicted murderer, whose crimes, committed while he was still a minor, led to a change in New York state law, so that juveniles as young as thirteen could be tried in adult court for murder and would face the same penalties. On March 19, 1978, Willie Bosket, then fifteen years old, shot dead Noel Perez on the New York subway, during an attempt to steal some money and a watch. Eight days later, Bosket shot another man, Moises Perez (no relation to his first victim) in another botched robbery attempt. Bosket was tried and convicted of the murders in the New York City Family court, where he was sentenced to five years in prison (the maximum for a minor).

8. Joshua Phillips

In 1998, 14-year-old Joshua Phillips bludgeoned his 8-year-old neighbor to death and hid her body beneath his bed. Seven days later, his mother noticed something leaking from beneath the bed. Joshua claimed that’s he’d accidentally hit Maddie in the eye with his baseball bat causing her to scream. In his panic he dragged her to his home where he hit her again and then stabbed her eleven times. His story failed to convince a Florida jury, who convicted him of first-degree murder. His mother is still appealing his conviction based upon the fact that he was given an adult penalty for his crime.

9. Edmund Kemper

In 1964, when Edmund Kemper was 15, he shot his grandparents, killing them both. He had been planning his repulsive act for some time and had no regrets later. The California Youth Authority detained him in Juvenile Hall so that they could put him through rigorous series of tests administered by a psychiatrist. Because the results suggested that he was a paranoid psychotic, he was sent to Atascadero State Hospital for treatment. There he learned what others thought about his crime and worked hard to make his doctors believe that he had recovered. Although he was considered a sociopath, he worked in the psychology lab to help administer the tests to others. In the process, he learned a lot about other deviant offenders. Kemper was released after another five years and remained under the supervision of the Youth Authority. His doctors recommended that he not be returned to his mother’s care, but the Youth Authority ignored this. After Kemper murdered and dismembered eight women over the next five years, these same doctors affirmed his insanity defense. In fact, even as he was carrying parts of his victims around, a panel of psychiatrists judged him to be no threat to society.

From time to time the unthinkable happens: children kill. Some decide to murder members of their own family in spite of their seemingly normal upbringing. Others do so because their upbringing was far from normal – often including beatings and abuse.

Then there are misguided children who, from the sheer desire to kill, go on murder sprees ending the lives of purely innocent victims. Children are supposed to be innocent and pure; without malice, contempt, sinister anger, or desires to kill, yet every year many commit horrific crimes. Here are Ten of the Most Evil Children in History, with number One exclusively dedicated to one foul group. The age limit for this list is 17 years.

10. Brian And David Freeman / Nelson Byrdwell

Bryan Freeman, 17, and David, 16, who had shaved and tattooed their heads as a symbol of their neo-Nazi beliefs, were immediate suspects when their parents and younger brother were found bludgeoned to death in their Salisbury Township, PA, home. The boys had been terrorizing the family and, as a whole, the town. As the police told it, the triple murder uncovered in Salisbury Township, Pa., that week was every parent’s nightmare — the ghastly culmination of a long-running battle of wills between Brenda and Dennis Freeman and their loutish, hulking sons Bryan, 17, and David, 16.

HealthDangers Of Taking Alchohol by Rowlandjude(op): 7:27am On Jul 17, 2015
https://only1jude./2015/07/16/dangers-of-taking-alchohol/

When it comes to alcohol, how much is too much? Find out what the experts recommend and how to recognize the signs that you’re drinking too much.
A large number of studies have shown that moderate alcohol intake can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease in men and women. Moderate drinking means one drink per day for women and one to two for men, says Donald Novey, MD, an integrative medicine physician with the Advocate Medical Group in Park Ridge, Ill. “The difference in amounts is because of how men and women metabolize alcohol,” Dr. Novey explains.
“When you say one drink, the size of that drink matters,” Novey adds. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture one drink is equal to:
12 ounces of beer or
5 ounces of wine or
1½ ounces of spirits (hard liquor such as gin or whiskey, 80-proof)
The Dangers of Drinking Too Much
Unfortunately, some people can’t stop at just one or two drinks. Too much alcohol can result in serious health consequences. Heavy alcohol intake can damage the liver, causing cirrhosis, a fatal disease. Excessive drinking also can raise blood pressure and damage the heart, and is linked to many different
cancers, including mouth, esophagus, breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. The health risks are even greater for those who not only drink but smoke as well.
The consequences of excessive drinking can be serious not only for the alcoholic , but also for their friends, family, and even innocent bystanders. According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, more than 16,000 people die each year in automobile accidents that involve drunken drivers. Other data indicates that one in three violent crimes involves the use of alcohol and as many as three out of four violent incidents against a spouse involve alcohol. “Alcohol is a depressant. It makes people sad over time, not happy,” Novey says. When depressed , people can do some rather unfortunate things to themselves and their loved ones.
Signs of Alcohol Abuse
How can you tell if you or someone you know might have a drinking problem? Physicians often use the CAGE test, which involves four simple questions, Novey says:
Cutting down. Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking?
Annoyance by criticism. Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
Guilty feeling. Have you ever felt guilty about drinking alcohol?
Eye-openers. Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (an “eye-opener”)?
If the answer to just one of these questions is yes, a drinking problem is likely and professional help is needed, Novey says.
Other signs of a drinking problem:
You find you can’t stop drinking once you start.
You’re having problems at work or at school.
Other people notice your drinking and comment on it.
You can’t remember what you did when you were drinking alcohol.
Moderation Rules
Consuming no more than one drink a day for women and no more than two drinks for men is safe, and perhaps even heart healthy. On the other hand, excessive drinking can have serious consequences. If you think you may have a drinking problem or suspect that someone you love does, seek professional help. Contact your family physician or a support group for substance abuse before irreparable damage is done

PoliticsEkweremadu: Group Cautions APC Leadership by Rowlandjude(op): 2:19am On Jul 12, 2015
Ndigbo Youths Organization (NYO) has cautioned the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as the efforts to muscle Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy President of the Senate, out of office.

The group, in a release by its Secretary General, Comrade Patrick Afuberah, said, Ike Ekweremadu was duly elected as other key officers of the National Assembly, adding that there was nothing unusual about his emergence to warrant the attacks unleashed on him by the APC leadership.
NYO, claiming to be saddled with the responsibility of fighting for the interest and welfare of the Igbo race, said it had watched with dismay and great disappointment the attacks and campaign of calumny against the Deputy Senate President.
“The calls from some APC senators and leaders for the resignation of Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President is unacceptable to us and in fact an insult to the Igbo race.
The fact that Senator Ike Ekweremadu was elected Deputy Senate President in a Senate that has majority of APC senators, speaks volumes of his leadership qualities and impeccable strength of character as a person. Consequently, we call on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, not to allow himself be drawn into the politics of the National Assembly leadership, as we shall resist any attempt to ridicule our eader”, the group added.

PoliticsLamido Cries Out From Prison: I’m Being Persecuted Over 2019 Presidency by Rowlandjude(op): 2:02am On Jul 12, 2015
…set to get bail tomorrow; supporters keep vigil at Kano prison

After spending 72 hours with his two sons in Kano Central Prison, immediate past governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has imputed political motives to his incarceration.

According to the former governor, he is being persecuted by those who feel that they would not be able to actualise their presidential ambition with him around the political arena.

Lamido, who spoke exclusively to Sunday Vanguard through his media aide, Umar Kyari, yesterday, drew the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the attempt being made by those he called “my political enemies” to silence him using the instrumentality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Lamido pointed out that it was clear from the outset that there was a grand design to put him away in prison for a long time under the guise of money laundering and sundry charges so as to pave the way for his political enemies to have their way.
The former governor, whose many supporters relocated to the Kano Central Prison where they kept vigil over him and his two sons, said he was determined to prove to Nigerians that he was innocent but was merely being witch-hunted by those who feel threatened by his rising political profile.

Lamido’s spokesman said: “This current effort to frame and denigrate the former governor of Jigawa State with a view to rubbishing his high performance in office will come to naught at the end of the day.

“Lamido remains nothing but a scion of accountability and integrity who has always fought on the side of the people, particularly the downtrodden and the vulnerable, since he came into the national political scene.

“He remains unshaken over the trumped-up charges slammed on him by the EFCC knowing that he has not committed any offense to warrant being thrown into the prison over a bailable offense.

“But the refusal by his traducers to grant him and his sons bail when others charged same day and time for even more grievous offences were admitted to bail speaks volume of the intention and mindset of those who are after him.

“Nonetheless, Sule Lamido strongly believes that, after being imprisoned several times all in a bid to pave the way for sustained democracy in Nigeria, the current effort by the EFCC and others to humiliate him and his family over the so-called money laundering charges will not break his resolve to continue to fight on the side of the people.

“It is Lamido’s strong belief that having not committed any offense against the state to warrant being sent to prison, he and his two sons will be freed and vindicated against the wicked plot of their adversaries”.

Meanwhile, Lamido is said to have been overwhelmed by the large number of friends and well wishers from across Nigeria who have thronged the prison to show solidarity with him and his two sons.

A close source at the prison told Sunday Vanguard that Lamido was jolted by the show of love and solidarity that he shed what the source described as “tears of joy” on Friday.

The former governor reportedly came out on Friday afternoon in one of his best attires to the office of the prison controller with a view to getting close to all those who had thronged the prison yard to see him.

Sunday Vanguard learnt last night that Lamido and sons were likely to be admitted to bail tomorrow (Monday) as a vacation judge was most likely to hear their bail application on that day.

A source said Lamido’s associates had already prepared in many ways to meet whatever conditions the judge might stipulate for their release from prison pending the hearing of the case in September.

Lamido and his two sons, according to the charge sheet of the EFCC after what the anti-graft agency described as a thorough investigation, alleged during the arraignment of the accused persons at a Federal High Court sitting in Kano, that they laundered N1.35 billion.

They were slammed with a 28-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust.
The trial judge, Justice Evelyn Anyadike, adjourned the case till September 28 while ordering that the suspects be remanded in Kano Prison.
Anyadike, however, ruled that the case will be handed over to a vacation judge to listen to the accused persons bail application while the judiciary goes on vacation today.

PoliticsNigerians Expectations From Buhari Are Like Jesus Raising Lazarus From The Dead— by Rowlandjude(op):
Nigerians expectations from Buhari are like Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead— Dele Momodu

Mr Dele Momodu, the publisher of the Qvation magazine, was the presidential candidate of the National Commission Party (NCP) in the 2011 general elections. In this interview, Momodu speaks on the Buhari administration, the elections of the leaders of the two chambers of the National Assembly and his relationship with the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the late politician, Chief MKO Abiola, among other issues.
You were, before the general elections, one of the unofficial spokespersons for President Muhammadu Buhari, who was then the APC presidential candidate. But of recent, your thoughts about the president appears to be changing?
I am surprised at your comment because I have never changed. I am the biggest supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari today. All I have done is to tell the president what people are saying outside, that is my job. We don’t tell our leaders the truth. I told former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the truth throughout his tenure. This is detailed in my forthcoming book, titled, ‘’Pendulum, a book of prophesy’’. Everything I told President Jonathan happened. I owe that to our president too today.
Once you become the president in Nigeria, people stop telling you the truth. They only tell you what you want to hear. I am a stakeholder in this government. I wonder what would have happened to me if the PDP had returned to power. I was already under constant threat. I received threat messages. I had to name all the numbers anonymous because they were all attacking me for supporting Buhari. I didn’t support the president because I wanted anything from him. I supported him because I believed at this time of our lives, we need a father-figure, what I called the Mandela- option in Nigeria. And I thought Buhari, as a man of integrity, of impeccable character, fits that bill.
But, three months after the election, Nigerians are getting impatient because most of them cannot wait for even one second. I was the first to write an article titled, ‘’In Search Of Patience’’, telling the people to exercise patience with the man. But being patient does not mean we should fold our arms indefinitely. There are things that can still be done. I found a proverb some where which says ‘’the meat of antelope tastes very good, but while it is cooking, we can still make do with groundnut’’. While we are waiting for that big action, some things must keep us going, whether pop corn, ice cream or something. If the National Assembly, within some minutes, approved about 15 Special Advisers; so, what is stopping us from picking our National Security Adviser, if we have to change the one there now.
How about the Chief of Staff, the Principal Secretary, the Secretary to the Federal Government. The longer it takes, the longer the tension, and also the longer the pressure on Mr President. I want the president to know that if they begin to put pressure on him, things may begin to fall apart. Had it been some things are already in place, I am sure the tension would have reduced.
But things have rotten so much so that many people support the president taking his time before making any appointments.
No. I was once a presidential candidate. Before a man says he wants to be president, he must have his plans and blue print of things that he saw not working properly. As such, he thought he had solution to them. Yes, you might not have 100% solution to the problems, but you have a fair idea of what needed to be done urgently. And you said you have the answer to them before you offered yourself to serve. And there is nobody more experienced than President Muhammadu Buhari. He was there over 30 years ago. He also acted in other capacities before now.
So, I expect him to be able to know what he wants to do. Your principal staff, you will know who they are, and you will appoint them. Even the ministers, by now, there is no law that says all the ministers must be ready at the same time. The problems we have in Nigeria are so big that one second is like eternity. I pleaded with people few weeks back to be patient, but I am telling you that the public outcry is no longer favourable to our cause. And I don’t want us to lose that moment to the concerns of the people. It is like a plane that is about to take off.
The outcry, some have said, is genuine but that people are not well informed about the enormity of the problems at hand?
No one is crying foul. Don’t let us misuse language. They are only asking for action. They have the right to that. Their expectation was that of a magician. That was what I wrote in my article. What the Nigerians expect of you is like that of Jesus Christ turning water into wine, raising Lazarus from the dead. I wrote another article, ‘’Buhari and the burden of expectations’’. To whom is given, much is expected. Nigerians saw him as magician. They believe he has talismanic powers to transform Nigeria from penury to prosperity. You can’t blame them. Nobody is blaming Buhari, we are just saying ‘please sir, time is not on your side’. I am not one of those who will rush him.
I am just reflecting the mood of the nation. I am a journalist. I gave him hints of what people expect him to do. I am not one of those who write abstract nonsense. I write constructively as a patriotic citizen. I joined the struggle since my days at University of Ife in 1978. I have never stopped since then. I also a country my children can live in and live in peace. I want a country where no girl would vanish into thin air for two years without any trace. I want a country where young school leavers would get jobs. I want a country where I will not spend all my money to generate electricity. I want a country where the infrastructure meets international standard like other oil producing countries. I want a country where our people will not be too distant from their leaders.
Talking about sudden change, you were known to be a friend and admirer of the APC National Leader, Ashiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, but suddenly you started supporting the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, against his party?
There is nothing sudden in that. From day one, I supported Saraki for various reasons. I will say that, boldly, any where. And I stand by it. I supported him based on empirical facts of what I know. One of it…..
(Cuts in)But you are not a member of the party?
Yes, that is the beauty of it all.
So how come you are saying authoritatively that ‘’from what I know’’?
I interact with people. At my level, a 55-year-old man, I have friends everywhere. I have contacts. I say this with every sense of responsibility. I don’t know of anybody who worked harder than Saraki, Amaechi and the rest of them for Buhari. Yes, so many people worked for Buhari, but I am telling you that from my own stand point, from my interactions, these people mentioned almost worked themselves to death for Buhari. As a matter of fact, at a time, some people were saying it was better to have consensus candidate for the party so that there won’t be rancour after the primaries; but some people refused, saying they were not ready to step down for Buhari.
Saraki was one of the first people who declared total and unflinching support for Buhari. Amaechi adores Kwankwaso. I know that for a fact. Ameachi loves Kwankwaso to death. But because of Buhari, Amaechi refused to support Kwankwaso. I don’t know if Kwankwaso will forgive him for that. But, he was honest enough to tell Kwankwaso that ‘’I have given my word to Buhari, I cannot turn back’’. Same thing with Saraki. I know for a fact that Saraki worships Tinubu. Quote me. Maybe our Oga (Tinubu)does not know it. You know, sometimes, you don’t know those who love you if you have a llot of crowd around you. But I am saying it to you that Saraki, the Senate President, worships Tinubu.
Then or till now?
I am sure till today. Saraki was one of Tinubu disciples. In fact, when some people were saying Tinubu wanted to hijack the party by installing his men, Saraki and Amaechi were among those who said ‘no, we must give our leader whatever he wants; we must not humiliate our leader’, because they(new PDP) had the power at that time to install their own candidate and they would have won, because the new PDP that joined APC at that time was formidable enough. But, they insisted they must defer to Tinubu. It is what I know, not that they told me.
There are people who may go behind and tell the leaders lies, but I love Tinubu to the extent that I will never tell him a lie. I will tell him only what I know. So, among those who worked so hard day and night, gathered those who could support the campaign, Saraki was one of them. Amaeachi risked his entire life for that campaign. In an association of five or more political parties, I expected that immediately after victory, all of you would have come together to decide which of the parties in the association takes what. That was not the case.
My advice to those of us who are close to Ashiwaju Tinubu is that people should prevail on him not to oppose Saraki because he is one of his men. If you have children and you show one that he is the preferred child above other ones, they will be angry. I think Saraki felt betrayed. If I were Ashiwaju, I would have done what the president did. I can almost bet my life that the President Buhari had a preferred candidate even though we didn’t know who the person was, but he said he would not interfere.
It will get to a stage in life where two of your children are fighting for something, you stand back and let them go to the field and whoever wins, you support him, not that you tie the arms of one against the other. You have not even told us why you are supporting one against the other. I have not read it anywhere. The only thing I have so far read was that Senator Lawan is a ranking member, beyond that, what else? Beyond that, nobody sold Lawan to us.
But the elections in both chambers appear to be polarising the party?

Yes. That is what it will come to if you supported one child against the other. I predicted it. Go and read my article, titled, ‘’Let’s honour our heroes’’, in which I canvassed that we must honour those people who worked for the party. I saw this coming because whoever knew a little bit of the rudiment of politics would have predicted same. Don’t forget that the generation of today is different, the temperament is different. The man’s(Saraki) life ambition was to be Senate President, to, at least, go beyond what his father achieved of being the Senate Leader. That is the dream of everybody in life, to surpass your father’s glory. That is why you had a W. Bush, and then, a George Bush Jr. and then a Jeb Bush coming, if it happens.
You must know that a Saraki who had that kind of ambition, you could not discourage him. If you are not going to support him, don’t discourage him. That was my position. I am not saying Tinubu had no right to support Lawan or anybody for that matter. But I know from my interactions with the senators particularly from South- West, many of them were secretly supporting Saraki but for the fear of Tinubu and the backlash, they didn’t come out in the open. And when this was about to happen, I sent people close to Ashiwaju to tell him that this was what was happening.
Whenever I met those South-West senators, they would say, E ba ore yin soro(please talk to your friend), but I can no longer do that, those days are gone. Today, if you go to Ashiwaju’s house, it is like a market place. And in a market place, all human beings will be there, and, most of them, for one purpose or the other. The reality is that has Tinubu accepted Saraki as one of his children and did not show any open bias against him? I am speaking facts, I am not taking sides. I am one million times closer to Tinubu than Saraki. But I will always support the under dog. That is me.
When General Buhari was going to speak at Chatham House in London, contrary to what the Fayose and co were saying that it never took place and that the man was in air ambulance…. I was in contact with Amaechi and Saraki. He was going to speak on Thursday, I left London via Madrid on a Tuesday for Ghana. I got to Accra in the evening. On Wednesday, Saraki contacted me and said Buhari was going to speak at Chatham House. I told him that I just got to Accra last night. He pleaded that whatever I could do, media wise, to make the day successful, I should do.

So, I contacted an international photographer and asked him to meet up with Amaechi while I took the next available flight back to London. Saraki was shocked and excited that I could return to London the following day for the event. So, I knew the efforts of Saraki and Amaechi. And when you talk about party supremacy, yes, the party is always supreme but not party dictatorship. Yes, the party will advise you, but you too will have a say. The party is made up of human beings. Even a father cannot be absolute. This is democracy.
Why did the Senate South-East caucus reject Lawan? Was it Saraki that rejected him? The party can make recommendation but everybody must be carried along. It would have been impossible to win that (Senate) election without carrying PDP along. What I expected from our leaders from the South-West was to have accepted the voice of God, whether it was controversial or not. Aminu Tambuwal emerged as Speaker from the PDP, it was controversial. And he remained Speaker till May 29, PDP didn’t kill him for that, neither was he called names. Tinubu is a father-figure to all of them, I think that is the role he should be playing.
Are you Tinubu’s boy?
Tinubu is my mentor. And I won’t join those who mislead our master. There is nothing wrong in being anybody’s boy. If you humble yourself, God will lift you up. I will always respect Tinubu. He is older than me, minimum of 10 years. So, if I cannot call him my father, anybody who wants to disrespect his own father can go ahead, he is free.
You said the late Abiola has more than 70% influence on you, it is like you are fanatical about this man?
Yes. I worked briefly in one of his companies, Concord, from 1988 to 1990. Because of my visibility in five of the titles on the Concord stable, coupled with my assistance in getting Shina Peters to play in his house for a party he hosted for the Super Eagles at that time, I became known to him and, from there, we became bonded. While a lot of people were following him because of money, I was always going to see him, mainly for mentorship. I was a disciple of Abiola, I later became an apostle. I could almost tell you how Abiola would react to any situation. There are two people today in my life that affected me: Abiola and the other one who I call a spirit you don’t see but you feel. That is Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. He is just incredible. I have learnt a lot from these two men. You cannot be great if you don’t recognise greatness in others. That is why I say that about 70% of what I have learnt today is from the late Abiola.
Ovation is 364 pages, from less than 100 pages. Is that not too voluminous?

The idea is to make every issue of Ovation a collector’s item. Something you cannot throw away or use to sell groundnut. Ovation is a lifestyle magazine. You have to aspire to be there. There was a woman who called some years back from Ilorin, Kwara State. She had been dreaming for 10 years about two things, that is when her daughter is getting married, Ovation to cover the wedding, and having Sikiru Ayinde Barrister to perform, even if he was going to come on wheel chair. She fulfilled the two dreams. Barrister played for her before he passed away. It is not like any or every other magazine. It is very spiritual in nature in its birth, conception, sustainability.
Some say you are trying to scare your competitors away?
There is nothing wrong with that. In anything you do, if you are not strong enough, your competitors will come and kick you away. I leant that from Mike Adenuga who puts everything in his business to make a difference. So, we have to put everything we have back into the magazine and that was why we have the French version of the magazine which has been running since 2006, because we do French covers. We have done cover in Hausa language before. We are experimental. That is why the fun has been on for close to 20 years now. We will be 20 next year April. We are also presently having the television version of it, now airing on Silverbird and Ben TV in London.
Which of these editions would you say is most outstanding for you?
Every copy of ovation, as I said, is a collector’s item. Every copy of ovation is a work of art and science. We go to the very extreme to give our readers the best value for money. That is why it is probably the most expensive magazine in the whole of Africa. Even at that, you cannot cover the cost, because every copy is like a hand-woven work of art. We have been with the same printer in London for the past 15 years. I am proud that in Africa, a company fully controlled by an African can think about quality; that, I think, is the greatest secret of ovation. Those who buy it do so because of its quality. When President Jonathan’s daughter got married, Ovation was the magazine of choice, it was the official magazine, and that was despite my opposition to the PDP. I am a professional to the core.

The magazine is for everybody. Whether you are in PDP, APC, APGA, any party at all. When the Queen of England was coming to Nigeria, Ovation was chosen by Buckingham Palace as the official magazine for Her Majesty’s visit. When Dubai was going to be marketed to Africa, the British trade partners invited us to London to go to Dubai to take pictures all over Dubai and produced an edition which we called ‘See Dubai and Die’. Of course, that changed how people perceived Dubai because, before then, it used be only traders who went to Dubai.
So, I cannot say a particular edition is the best. I can give you some of the memorable ones. Dr.Dehinde Fernadez Island in New York, to me, that is epic. Then going to Maiduguri, Borno State, to photographe Alhaji Muhammed Indimi’s house called House of Gold, I have never seen anything like it. It is an incredible monument. I flew in Collin Ramsay, the father of all photographers, in his late 70s, from London. The man who had taken world celebrities photographs including Imelda Marcos. That was the level that we took photography to. Some said when we first started that within six months, it was going to perish, but here we are, 19 years after, still standing.
You said you are not rich, even with the success of Ovation?
Wealth, I believe, is relative. People in Africa, especially in Nigeria, tend to assess achievement in terms of money. I don’t. My biggest achievement today is creating a global brand; a brand that anywhere I am, and I have been on all the continents in the world, I have both brand and name recognition. I have been able to build a double brand. That is one of the most difficult things to do as an entrepreneur. When you mention Microsoft, your mind naturally goes to Bill Gates. You mention Apple and your mind goes to Steve Jobs. You mention Virgin and your mind goes to Richard Branson. You mention Ovation, your mind must go to Dele Momodu. that is my greatest achievement. Every other thing, God will take care of it.

Romance10 Things You Need To Ask Yourself Before Ending A Marriage by Rowlandjude(op): 9:14am On Jun 11, 2015
https://only1jude./2015/06/06/10-things-you-need-to-ask-yourself-before-ending-a-marriage/

While a relationship can never be deemed as perfect, there is a compromised definition that most people are happy with. Feeling safe, secure and happy in a marriage is usually at the top of the list. So if you find your relationship lacking in these three major categories, it might be time for you to walk out. Ask yourself these 10 questions before you sign on the dotted line.

1. Is this what I signed up for? Marriages require a lot of adjustments but that doesn’t mean that you have to completely alter your definition of happy. While occasional changes are okay, if you find yourself compromising at the cost of your happiness all the time, you need to have a serious talk with your partner.

2. Do I want a happy marriage or a happy spouse? There is a sea of difference between an unhappy marriage and a difficult spouse. If you feel that he is the problem, talk to him and understand what the issue is. If on the other hand the relationship itself poses a problem, you need to take action.

3. Have we tried our best? Not I, but we. Ask the question to both of you, if you have each put in the required effort to make the marriage work.

4. Can outside help us? The Indian society thrives on, ‘What will the neighbours think?’ but don’t be afraid or ashamed to seek help from a counsellor or a trusted family member or even a friend. Sometimes a third person can give you a better perspective on your problems.

5. What is my role in this? We love to be victims and it’s always easier to blame the other person than honestly divide blame. So before you hire that lawyer evaluate your role in the relationship and whether or not correcting or changing it can save your marriage.

6. Does he know what I am going through? If not, then make sure you tell him what your problems are. Chances are the things that you feel are beyond repair could be dealt with with one serious heart-to-heart.

7. Do I still love him? One of the most common marriage jokes is that after the first year love jumps out of the window. And it’s true. While the butterflies-in-the-stomach kind of love no longer exists, there is a different kind of warm chemistry that comes with marriage. Make sure you don’t confuse the routine of your marriage with falling out of love. It is a phase that every relationship goes through.

8. Are my standards for marriage realistic? Growing up in India most of our marriage expectations come from Bollywood movies or romantic books or social media stalking. Don’t rely on any of those; rather be honest and realistic in what you expect from your partner and your marriage. We are not saying don’t dream. Dream, but keep the standards achievable.

9. Do I want to end this marriage because of someone else? You could have fallen in love with someone you met at work or you might feel that the marriage cannot work because his family is too interfering. Ask yourself if the issue with the other person could be resolved or has it damaged your marriage too much already.

10. What will I miss most about my spouse and this marriage? This is perhaps your most important question. It gives you an insight on how life without this marriage would be. If you are sure that you can survive without it, take a decision to walk out.
PoliticsThe Subsidy Question: Fuel Will Sell For N40 A Litre by Rowlandjude(op): 7:51am On Jun 11, 2015
In their daily lives, Nigerians must cope with this open ambivalence – they have oil but they can’t see oil; they have petroleum, but they have no petrol; they pay for light but they get darkness. There is no better way to explain what we mean here than by telling our usual story of the so-called subsidy on petroleum products in its most elemental form.
Nigeria is said to be the sixth largest producer of oil in the world. But with mismanagement, what was originally supposed to be a blessing from God has virtually turned a curse. At every point, we are either fighting because of the poor allocation of this resource, or we are crying that some dubious elements have stolen the total proceeds.
The original arrangement was that as soon as the crude oil came out from the ground, Nigeria would sell 90 percent at the spot market, in hard currency. The remaining 10 percent was meant to be refined for local consumption.
At various times, Nigeria had built four refineries – two in Port-Harcourt and one each in Warri and Kaduna, intended to refine different products. These refineries were run aground; and they are now old and practically comatose.
Because of our lack of refineries, foreign concerns that had refineries began to pick up, at rock-bottom prices, the 10 percent crude reserved for local consumption. They would refine the products in their countries and export the refined products to us at their own prices. By the time the product returns to Nigeria after its triangular journey, the price has hit the ceiling and it is no longer within the reach of many. This is where government steps in to bring in what it calls subsidy.
Under this scheme, a country like the Netherlands, which does not have a single drop of oil, is in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, as a net exporter of oil.
The subsidy regime in Nigeria reminds us of two issues – first, subsidy would have been absolutely unnecessary if we were doing our own refining in Nigeria. Secondly, the subsidy regime has been fraught with fraud and dishonesty.
Between 2006 and 2014, Nigeria paid over N7.5 trillion as subsidy claims. Yet, we are still where we are – the subsidised products are not available and where they are available, they sell for prices much higher than the unsubsidised products. Put differently, we have been subsidizing fraud.
The subsidy game has been a political one and has not been played on the rings of economic data; and rather than being fact-driven, it has been emotion-driven and politically played by those who use it as a political tool.
Subsidy in itself is not a bad idea. In fact, it is defined in economics as money paid by government or an organisation to reduce the cost of producing goods so that their prices can be kept low. It seeks to reduce the market price of an item below the cost of production. Government intervenes to support desirable activities to keep the prices of staple low; maintain the income of producers of critical or strategic products; induce investment while reducing unemployment.
Everywhere, subsidy is supposed to be a cushion to enhance the welfare and well-being of the people. It is an acceptable practice the world-over.
This writer was in Germany in the winter of 1973, when the price of oil increased astronomically because of some major adjustments by OPEC. Many companies would have just gone under but government quickly intervened with a serious subsidy package. Among other things, industry workers – including those of us arbiters who were “pulling gburu” – were made to work two days a week (eight days a month) for full month’s pay. That’s subsidy.
If all American farmers were to be allowed to produce at their optimum levels, food would be surplus and totally useless everywhere. The American government has had the practice over the years of paying some selected farmers to stay at home, not producing anything during the year. That’s subsidy.
In these places, the subsidy scheme is well managed and it gets to the target population – the poor. But in Nigeria, the exact opposite is the case: the real beneficiaries are not the poor but the middlemen and the rent seekers, contrary to the argument usually advanced and which has been at the heart of subsidy’s continuation, that it is pro-poor.
As long as there are long queues in our filling stations, we are merely compounding the problems of the poor. When people queue and sleep at petrol stations like refugees, besides the human degradation involved, you have also effectively reduced from their sources of livelihood because the time spent at the stations are wasted. Funds for infrastructural and human capital development are frittered away on dubious subsidy claims and payments to about 40 corporate citizens of Nigeria, to the utter neglect of the rest of us.
Truly, petrol can sell for N40 a litre but things must get worse before they get better. Subsidy is strangulating us! We must take the tough decision NOW – tighten our belts and let subsidy go!
Those middlemen in the current supply chain must go. Subsidy removal must be approached through what we call “the blind man and his yam”. If you have to pill the blind man’s yam, you must keep whistling while you do so as a sign that you are not introducing the yam into your own mouth.
Similarly, any substantial subsidy removal must be immediately accompanied with the rehabilitation and upgrading of the refineries so the people can see what you are doing with theirmoney. Once we meet our local needs, importation will stop. When importation stops, subsidy ends. The darkest part of the night is just before dawn.
Let’s give ourselves one year to work on the refineries during which period, as a way of choosing the lesser of two evils, we shall allow only the NNPC to import petroleum products directly so that we can know exactly what we are consuming.

PoliticsSenator Tinubu Rejects Saraki’s Handshake by Rowlandjude(op): 7:11am On Jun 11, 2015
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Wednesday, administered the oath of office and allegiance on his closed rival in the contest for the Senate President for the 8th senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan and 27 other Senators that missed their oath taking on Tuesday.
But the oath-taking and allegiance witnessed a mild drama as Senator Oluremi Tinubu Representing Lagos Central on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, held back her hands when the Senate President in line with the tradition after administering the oath stretched out his hands to shake her.
However, other APC Senators who participated in the exercise including Senator Lawan who was adopted by the leadership of the APC for the Senate President position had the hand shake with Senator Saraki.
The Senate after the oath taking entered into closed door session.

RomanceVaginal Hygiene Rules That Every Girl Must Know by Rowlandjude(op): 9:04am On Jun 10, 2015
https://only1jude./2015/06/06/vaginal-hygiene-rules-that-every-girl-must-know/

We all know that talking about the vagina and sex issues is a taboo in our country, even today. Although over the years, there has been a gradual change in people’s mindsets about such subjects, there are still many women who refrain from talking about their feminine hygiene issues. Maintaining vaginal hygiene is very important, hence, here is a list of rules concerning your nether regions, which many women do not know about.
1. Wet and Sweaty Bottoms Can Cause Bacteria: Women often get their panties wet due to vaginal discharge, sweat or not cleaning the vagina after urinating. Wet bottoms for a long period can cause bacteria to develop, resulting in bad odour or infections. Hence, always keep your vagina clean and dry.

2. Not Changing Your Sanitary Napkin for 9 Hours: It’s very important for menstruating women to change their sanitary napkins every 5-7 hours. If sanitary napkins are worn for long, they can cause rashes, bad odour and put you at the risk of infection.

3. Wearing Tight Clothes Can Cause Sweat: It’s always recommended that women wear breathable innerwear, made of cotton fabric. Tight inners and synthetic fabrics can reduce the air circulation causing sweat, which puts you at a higher risk of developing vaginal infection.

4. Not Maintaining the pH Level May Cause Harm: The vagina naturally keeps itself safe from bacteria and infections by maintaining an optimum temperature and moisture with a specific pH balance. Normally, the pH level of a vagina is around 3.8 to 4.5, which can be drastically altered by using harsh soaps or chemical cleansers. This can permanently damage your vagina and cause constant irritation and infections. To maintain this pH level, use a mild soap and water to clean your sensitive parts. In case if you find a strong and unpleasant odour, consult your doctor immediately.

5. Cleaning Vagina After Intercourse Is A Must: Body fluids and particles from condom and other innate products can cause infection in the vagina. Hence, it’s very important to clean the vagina with a mild soap and water to keep it safe from infections and bacteria.

6. Remove Pubic Hair: Always keep your pubic hair short or remove it completely in order to keep your private parts clean. To extent possible, avoid using razors, but if you still need to, then always use a new blade.

7. Talcum Powder Helps You Keep It Dry: Make it an everyday after-bath routine to apply some talc on your vagina. This will help your vagina stay clean and dry for hours.

8. Avoid Douching: Douching means to wash or soak in French. The douching involves rinsing your private parts with an acidic chemical fluid and is often done post-intercourse to kill the sperms. But douches interfere with pH level and can cause infection and more over it is an ineffective contraceptive at best. Hence, abstain from this practice.

9. Avoid Scrubbing Your Nether Regions: The skin on your private parts is sensitive and can easily peel off when scrubbed with a harsh product. Hence always opt for products that are gentle and easy on the skin.

10. Coloured Fluid Discharge is Not Normal: It’s very important to know about the kind of fluids that your body discharges. If your innerwear stinks or you witness coloured (green/yellow) urine or vaginal discharge, consult your doctor immediately.

Romance10 Reasons Why You Don’t Have Many Friends by Rowlandjude(op): 1:57pm On Jun 09, 2015
https://only1jude./2015/06/07/reasons-why-you-dont-have-many-friends/

Finding and keeping friends in adulthood is different from the days when you played on the playground at recess. It takes work to maintain friendships over time. If you don’t have many friends, it’s important to consider the possible reasons why.

1. You Complain A Lot

If you’re constantly complaining about your job, lack of money, or unfair life, people won’t care to spend a lot of time with you. Complaining gets old fast. Try to develop a more positive attitude and look for more interesting topics to discuss rather than what’s going wrong in your life.

2. You Ditch Your Friends When You’re in a Relationship

If you’re guilty of ditching your friends every time you begin dating someone new, it’s likely your friends won’t sit around and wait to hear your breakup story. Instead, they’ll move on without you. It’s important to find a balance between spending time with your pals and your latest romantic interest.

3. You’re Selfish

Consider whether or not being selfish contributes to the fact that you don’t have friends. Friendship requires you to give sometimes, even when you don’t feel like it. If you’re only willing to do what you want, when you want it, it’s unlikely that your friends will tolerate it for very long.

4. You Don’t Care About Your Friends

If you don’t care what’s happening in your friends’ lives, your friends might not keep you around. It’s important to show interest in how your friends are doing. People will likely grow insulted if you don’t care to ask about them or you don’t care about their feelings.

5. You Stir Up Drama

If you’re guilty of stirring up trouble, it’s likely that people will try to avoid the drama. If you blame others, don’t keep secrets, or try to irritate people on purpose, you’ll likely have difficulty convincing people why they should stick around.

6. You Keep Score

Keeping score has no place in true friendship. If you try to keep score about whose turn it is to choose where you’re going to dinner or whose turn it is to call who, you will likely turn your friends away. Be willing to give to the relationship, rather than focus on trying to keep everything fair.

7. You Get too Jealous

If you feel jealous when your friend buys a new car, gets a promotion at work, or enters into a new relationship, it’s likely going to lead to problems. It’s important to celebrate with your friends and feel happy for them when they succeed. If you’re always feeling jealous, you’re attitude will likely shine through, even if you try to hide it.

8. You Expect Too Much From Friends

If you expect your friends to always be available or always meet your needs, you’ll be disappointed. Your friends will hurt your feelings sometimes and will likely disappoint you from time to time. But that doesn’t meant they aren’t good people or that you shouldn’t remain friends with them. Practice forgiveness when your feelings get hurt.

9. You Gossip

If you gossip non-stop, people will recognize that you likely talk about them as well. Don’t talk negatively about other people or spread rumors. Instead, show that you can be trusted to respect people’s privacy.

10. You Bully Your Friends

Bullying doesn’t end in high school for many people. If you’re guilty of bossing your friends around or making demands, it’s likely that people won’t like you. It’s okay to be assertive with people, but make sure you don’t cross the line into behaving aggressively. Respect other people’s rights and work on developing healthy relationships.

HealthYour Swimming Pool Can Make You Sick by Rowlandjude(op): 12:23pm On Jun 09, 2015
https://only1jude./2015/06/06/your-swimming-pool-can-make-you-sick/

We all get excited at the thought of heading to the nearest pool and dunking ourselves in cool water. With children heading to the pool almost every day, it becomes even more important to keep all swimming pools well maintained.

Public pools, recreational water bodies, water parks, water towers and coolers etc., are major habitats for microorganisms to thrive and grow, thereby affecting the end users. While maintenance activities are regularly undertaken in order to curtail bacteriological breeding, the effectiveness of the measures is unknown, especially since the historical practices are not enough for safe swimming.

Studies have revealed that merely adding chlorine or filtering water is not really enough to kill the bacteria and viruses in these water bodies. Germs today are immune to chlorine. In fact, just one gulp of this contaminated water can make you sick.

According to the Centers of Diseases Control and Prevention, “Recreational water illnesses (RWIs) are caused by germs spread by swallowing, breathing in mists or aerosols of, or having contact with contaminated water in swimming pools, hot tubs, water parks, water play areas, interactive fountains, lakes, rivers, or oceans. People fall ill due to consumption of contaminated water, sometimes even after it has been adequately chlorinated or sanitized.”

Apart from gastrointestinal infections, wound infections and infections of the skin, ear, respiratory tract, eye and brain, there are several communicable diseases of concern that are commonly associated with recreational swimming, wading and use of bathing locations. A few are listed below (via Environment & Public Health Consultants):

Shigellosis: This is also referred to as bacillary dysentery, and is characterised by fever, nausea, vomiting, cramps and diarrhoea caused by Shigella. In most cases, stool contains blood and mucus.

E. coli: Escherichia coli is a lethal organism that causes diarrhoea ranging from mild stools without blood to those that are virtually all blood.

Cryptosporidiosis: The major symptoms include severe abdominal cramping, malaise, fever, anorexia and vomiting. One of the more interesting characteristics of this waterborne disease is the appearance of oocytes (female germ cells involved in reproduction), which are highly resistant to chemical disinfectants commonly used to purify drinking water. The oocytes are excreted through stool and remain infective for periods of 2-6 weeks.

Hepatitis A: An illness commonly associated with raw sewage and recreational swimming environments, it often becomes problematic when existing sewage systems become overburdened due to heavy rainfall or flooding. Since this disease is caused by a virus, it does not respond to antibiotics.

Pseudomonas: Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes a variety of illnesses when associated with recreational swimming, but the most common manifestation is “swimmer’s ear” and a variety of skin infections. The bacteria grow well in warm water environments such as hot tubs and spas, since heat often breaks down the disinfecting ability of pool chemicals. The skin rash known as ‘hot tub folliculitus’ takes on the appearance of chicken pox.

Take an active role in the condition of the water you swim in and you and your loved.
