Wow! I honestly feel compelled to write this post and save you a lot of pain!

Why am I so compelled? While researching for the topic, I read so much misinformation on the web about how to let a friend know you are into her. The worst is, I have followed this dating advice in the past, crashed and burned! I will tell you exactly why there is so much misinformation. So read on!

Here is the situation: I know exactly what brought you here & why you are reading this! You have a friend or a best-friend, and at some point in your platonic relationship, you have suddenly developed feelings for her.

Now you feel in love, and that feels great but at the same time you are wondering what to do now?
1.) Never tell her your real feelings directly

Do that and it is almost impossible to get the relationship from platonic to romantic. The only time that might work is when she feels the same way about you. Even in that case, it is extremely dangerous.

For some reason, women need a challenge. When you tell them directly, you take that away from them, and you suddenly feel dull. Never say it!

2.) Don’t put her on a pedestal

When guys get feelings for a girl, they tend to say things like “You are so beautiful!” or “I am weak only for you!” with glassy, puppy eyes.

Women loathe that! Don’t put her on some kind of pedestal.

Key is building solid attraction. One way to do that is to be playful with her. So instead putting her on a pedestal, let her know how much of a dork she is.

Tell her that with a sly smile and hug her after. Tell her things like:

“You know what, you really suck! Why do I put up with this? I think I only hang out with you, is because you give me chocolates sometimes.”

Do it in a humorous way, then hug her. So she knows you don’t truly mean it. Send her mixed signals. This will get her attracted, “You are such a lovely person” won’t!”

Break the touch barrier. Get physical! If you are not used to it, do it slow at first. Touch her lower back to lead the way.

Touch her arm, her leg, hug her but do something to break that barrier! Too many guys make the mistake of making the one significant move.

They have never touched her, never made her feel anything but a friend and suddenly they go in for the awkward kiss or tell her “I love you!” out of the total blue.

Don’t make that mistake. Always be touching her more and more, so it feels natural to her.

This is where 99% of guys plainly loose! They get so focused with that one girl; they will start to loose interest in the other 2.5 billion females on this planet. When you only hang out with that one girl, she will think that other women are not interested in you. But what for girls is one of the most attractive traits in a guy is when other women are attracted to him.

Therefore, hang out with girls. Talk about it openly with her. Say how much you enjoyed it or how much you didn’t enjoy it (but don’t tell her things like “I would have rather been with you.”) She will see that other females are interested in you and wonder why. She will also feel competition, and healthy competition in any market, especially the market for your attention, is a marvelous thing!

6.) Don’t be rattled by her
Another point were 99% of guys fail miserably. As soon as they have developed feelings, they get all emotional about the girl. She cancels on a date, they get angry and upset.

I made this stupid mistake back in the days many times. I can still recall a period when I took my best friend at the time, I was utterly in love with her, to a Japanese restaurant & she complained seriously the whole evening about the food. Instead of it not letting affect me, I totally snapped and get angry big time. That is not very sexy to a girl. The guys who are sexiest are the ones that just don’t seem to care.

Getting angry about her behavior, be it her flaking or criticizing you, shows insecurities and weakness. She will feel you as weak, but girls want a strong man. When you are certainly not rattled by anything, especially by a girl you are into, that’s when women start to fall for you like dominos.

Right now, a girl could complain to me all night long about how awful the food is and how miserable the place is I took her to. I would be smiling all the way and making jokes on the way.

It would be impossible now for her to upset me. It’s something else though when somebody is clearly attacking you. Then defend yourself, but do it like a man, without seeming to be affected.

If you are not easily rattled, no matter what happens to you in life or what she throws at you, you are unbelievably sexy and attractive to women in general. Combine that with humor and a sly smile: you are irresistible!Ever seen the TV show 24? Kiefer Sutherland here plays a special agent called Jack Bauer. The character he plays is ruthless, emotionally detached and socially a mess. Yet he is always calm under pressure, certainly not easily rattled. He has not much else going for him. Now listen to this:

I have discussed the show with 3 female friends some time ago and they uniformly agreed to the same thing – when they started to watch the show, they thought Kiefer Sutherland as totally unattractive. However, as the plot developed, they all thought of him as such a sexy and attractive man! They used words like masculine, strong, determined and sexy. I couldn’t understand this at the time, now I do!

What I have just lain out for you are the basic “Rules of Engagement” when you seriously want to turn a friend into a lover. But hey! You will ask your self by now, how do I actually do it?

Here is the best practice for how to tell a friend you like her:

Use the first six steps to re-frame your relationship to her in a more masculine way.

Wait for a moment when the 2 of you are alone together, best romantic moment and the 2 of you are already close to each other. Then brush away the hair from her face and look at her. If she doesn’t flinch, kiss her!

You really have to be patient and time the right moment here. Then, you have to read her. If it doesn’t feel right for you, don’t do it!

Go back to the first 6 step and repeat, until she is ready for it!

After you have kissed, and she brings up the “What is that supposed to mean for our friendship?”, just say you felt like kissing her in that moment.

Don’t go weak there and tell her about your feelings!

In case you are not used or experienced with kissing girls out of the blue, I highly recommend kissing her when you are both a bit tipsy.

This will make it a lot easier, and if it goes wrong, just blame it on the booze!

Now go and get her!

PoliticsOil Subsidy: Will APC Allow President Buhari To Play Ball? by Rowlandjude(op): 1:02pm On Jun 08, 2015
One of those few Nigerians well grounded in the nefarious and technically slippery Nigerian oil terrain is the Managing Director of Capital Oil, IfeanyiUbah. He is a colossus in the industry, mostly at the downstream sector. He has invested heavily in the promotion of the trade. He knows all the department of the sector. He has made stupendous wealth from moving the “black gold” product from one place to another. Yes, the gossip in some quarters is that the man, by this trade, is richer than his home state of Anambra in the South East of Nigeria.
If a man of this resume speaks on any subject matter within the industry, l think it will be the principle of economic wisdom for people to listen. If we [Nigerians] fail to give thought to his comment, again strictly on oil matters, we shall be doing so to our own collective peril. IfeanyiUbah was quoted recently as urging President Muhammadu Buhari “to stop subsidising petrol and probe oil marketers whose actions almost led to the shutdown of the country recently”. Two things played out here that need urgent and critical evaluation. First, is the urgent need for the Federal Government to deregulate the industry by total removal of oil subsidy, and the second, according to Ubah, is “probing the oil marketers”.
Let us for now step down the call for probing the oil marketers while we consider for serious adoption the removal of the subsidy. I am not saying that Ubah’s “wise” call for probing the oil marketers should be entirely discarded. No, what l am saying is to step it aside temporarily for reason l shall mention shortly.
IfeanyiUbah even psyched up President Buhari on this topic by saying that “he is not a stranger to the sector, having been a former minister of petroleum. He will be respected if he takes the step because there is no point in paying subsidy when Nigerians are not benefiting from it”.Here really is the “atomic bomb-shell” – Nigerians are not “benefiting from it”. Could that be true? Yes, but not the total truth. Few “first class” Nigerians are benefiting massively from the subsidy paid to the oil marketers. This tiny group of “super Nigerians” included those once listed for “offenses of oil subsidy scam” – a list once compiled and presented to Nigerians by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission. IfeanyiUbah was one of the “few privileged Nigerians” that made that list”honourably”.
Let us return to the issue of removing the subsidy because of its contentiousness. Evaluation of IfeanyiUbah’s conclusion, while advising the President will be a better guideline on the way forward on this matter. “The President will be doing the right thing if he deregulates the sector so that the product will be sold at cheaper rate in the future. I have always been of the view that we should deregulate so that we can cut out corruption, but unfortunately, Nigerians didn’t take it from former President Goodluck Jonathan”.

There are two secrets revealed in this piece of advice. The first one is that if we must eliminate corruption in Nigeria, deregulation leading to removal of oil subsidy becomes inevitable and must be done with speed. The second is more of a revelation and that is the fact that the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, was bold enough at a time to have attempted total removal of the oil subsidy but “Nigerians did not take it from him”. This is enough food for thought. Nigerians did not take it from him!
The way and manner we deal with these two secrets revealed above will determine how much success or otherwise Nigeria shall be able to achieve in the battle against oil subsidy. The first step is the boldness to remove the subsidy while the second is the possibility of compromising those “Nigerians” that resisted Jonathan’s attempt [subsidy removal] at a time.
Getting the first is going to be easy with Buhari in the saddle as President because he has vowed to “kill corruption before corruption kills Nigeria”. The second one however, is not going to be easier as Buhari, a democratically elected President, can only achieve what he intends to do by working with Nigerians – the same “Nigerians” that ganged-up against President Jonathan when he embarked on the voyage of “subsidy removal”. This assignment of bringing these “Nigerians” to support President Buhari may really be tough, but, to my mind, is achievable if we apply the wisdom of identifying these “Nigerians”. Let us search them out.
It was the first day of January 2012, when President Jonathan gave Nigerians “a bad new year gift”, so it was called, by total removal of oil subsidy, that the “Nigerians”IfeanyiUbah said resisted Jonathan was “born”. Being a new-born baby, the “naming ceremony” took place at the popular Gani Fawehimi Freedom Square at Ojota area of Lagos. Invitations for the naming ceremony was sent out by the “The Save Nigeria Group”, a movement put together by the radical Lagos State-based cleric, Pastor Tunde Bakare, while the Lagos State government, under the political umbrella of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the precursor and “mother” of today’s All Progressives Congress, APC, provided the logistics for the fun and it was appropriately tagged “Occupy Nigeria”.
It was at this “naming ceremony”, loaded with the largest carnival in the annals of Lagos State history that Jonathan’s bold attempt to remove the oil subsidy was “shot down” by the “parents of the newly-born baby”. Who are the parents? It is easy identifying them as those pointed out above and they are the people of the same character that later made the formation of the APC possible. They are the “Nigerians” identified by IfeanyiUbah that “did not take it from Goodluck Jonathan”.
The question therefore is: Will the APC, now in control of the Federal Government, agree with President Buhari to remove the cancerous oil subsidy so that Nigeria can be saved from this monumental corruption that is “killing us”? Will they? Only time shall tell.

PoliticsBreaking News: Speakership: Court Asked To Disqualify Gbajabiamila Over US Indic by Rowlandjude(op): 12:29pm On Jun 08, 2015
The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court is currently hearing an ex-parte motion seeking to disqualify Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from emerging as the Speaker of the House of Representatives tomorrow.
Justice Abdul Kafarati is presiding over the suit which was lodged before the high court by the Registered Trustees of Social Justice and Civil Rights Awareness Initiative.
The group, in the suit filed pursuant to Order 26 Rule 8 of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules, 2009, is contending that Hon. Gbajabiamila is not morally fit to head the third arm of governance in Nigeria, alleging that he was previously ‎”convicted in the state of Georgia for unethical practices and was debarred as a lawyer for 36 months”.
Aside Gbajabiamila, the House of Representatives and the Attorney General of the Federation were equally cited as defendants in the matter.
The ex-parte motion is being argued on behalf of the group by Human Rights lawyer, Chief ‎Mike Ozehkome, SAN.
In a supporting affidavit ‎that was deposed to by one Alojie Nmerengira, the plaintiff told the court that its investigations revealed that Gbajabiamila was convicted by the Supreme Court of Georgia in 2007, even as it attached a copy of the order of the court as ‘Exhibit A’.

Nmerengira averred: “That I am the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the plaintiff organization by virtue of which I am very conversant with the facts deposed herein.
“That the 1st defendant is a member of the House of Representatives who nurses the ambition of becoming the Speaker of the House in the next Assembly. That the 2nd defendant is the constitution body created to carry ‎out legislative functions for the good governance and advancement of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

HealthSARS Like Virus Mers-cov Virus Is Now Spreading by Rowlandjude(op): 12:20pm On Jun 08, 2015
The world is watching as the largest outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) outside the Middle East continues in South Korea. According to the most recent figures from the World Health Organization, 30 people have been infected, two of whom have died. Hundreds of schools have been closed. The causal coronavirus, MERS-CoV, is one of many viruses that are considered potential pandemic threats. But experts do not consider this outbreak, in which all cases are hospital-associated, to have pandemic potential or even expect it to spread further within South Korea. Here are some of the reasons why.

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV),[1] also termed EMC/2012 (HCoV-EMC/2012), is positive-sense, single-stranded RNA novel species of the genus Betacoronavirus.

First called novel coronavirus 2012 or simply novel coronavirus, it was first reported in 2012 after genome sequencing of a virus isolated from sputum samples from patients who fell ill in a 2012 outbreak of a new flu.

As of June 2015, MERS-CoV cases have been reported in over 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Turkey, Oman, Algeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia (none were confirmed), Austria,[2] the United Kingdom, South Korea,[3] the United States [4][5] and China (both mainland and Hong Kong).[6]

Almost all cases are somehow linked to Saudi Arabia.[7] In the same article, it was reported that Saudi authorities' errors in response to MERS-CoV were a contributing factor to the spread of this deadly virus.[7]

The most recent outbreak was in South Korea with over 80 reported cases, and over 2300 placed under quarantine, making it the largest outbreak outside Saudi Arabia. [8]

Guys, it is a tough dating world out there. There are loads of girls you have to go through before finding Ms. Right.

1. Daddy’s Girl

This girl may be 25, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love to spend quality time with Daddy. In fact, not only does he financially subsidize her, but he’s also the first person she calls when her car breaks down, her boss yells at her, or she has an extra ticket to a concert. Hey wait a second; isn’t that supposed to be your role? Then there’s the time you find Daddy polishing his machete collection and staring at you. When you break up with the Daddy’s girl, she doesn’t seem to notice; she’s off to Tahoe to ski with Dad that weekend.

2. The Party Girl

This girl always knows where the party is. Not only that, but she has friends wherever you go, and they all have funny stories about that time she got wasted and made out with other people’s boyfriends. Then, what do you know, you find her in a closet doing the same thing when she was supposed to be in a relationship with you. You try to dump her but she’s too busy making out with that random guy to listen.

3. The Straight A Student

This girl is super smart and it would be great to talk to her…if she ever had time to talk. Not only is she a straight A student but she’s involved in every activity on campus, whether she’s an undergrad or a grad student. She takes on extra work like it’s going out of style, and she’s more emotionally committed to her study group partners than to you. When you break up with her, she turns it into an excellent piece of nonfiction for her writing seminar and gets, of course, an A.

4. Miss Jealousy

“What did you really mean when you said ‘Nice shirt’ to your coworker at that party? What was nice about the shirt? Are you secretly in love with her? This reminds me of what you said last weekend to my sister, remember? ‘I like your car’. You meant you wanted to ride off with her somewhere private and put down the back seat, didn’t you? DIDN’T YOU?” You dump her by telling her you have a terminal illness because you’re scared of the repercussions.

5. Gossip Girl

This girl talks your ear off about her friend, her friend’s friend, her friend’s boyfriend’s friend, and that guy’s cousin. All of her stories seem to be about someone in a bad situation that your girlfriend can pretend to empathize with while she secretly acts better than them. You break up with her after you start fantasizing about Miss Jealousy, who was at least focused on you.

6. Your Mom’s Hopeful Daughter-in-law

This girl and your mom get along like gangbusters. Your mom drops hints about how it’s time to settle down, and your girlfriend talks about how awesome a listener your mom is. But, to be honest, your mom has more chemistry with this girl than you do. You start hanging out in the library hoping to run into The Straight A Student and let your mom break the news to your girlfriend gently.

6. The Anxiety Case

This girl is nervous and worried about everything. When you go on a snowboarding trip, she worries about you breaking your leg. When you eat quickly, she worries about you choking. When she is too nervous about flying to take a vacation with you, you find her a good therapist and say “hasta la vista”.

7. The Drama Queen

This girl is exciting, and it’s never boring to be around her. But soon you realize that it’s exhausting to ride her emotional roller coaster every day. After a few breakup/makeup cycles, you find yourself yearning for the anxiety case. At least she was consistent. When you break up with her, the scene is heart-wrenching. But it is strange how she starts dating that guy from her building the very next day.

8. The Trendsetter

You are not sure if what she is wearing is a shirt or a dress, or what exactly is up with her make-up, but you know whatever it is, it’s right on trend. This girl knows what’s in style months before everyone else. It’s great to think you landed someone so stylish and cutting edge, until she starts to throw out some of your favorite clothes in an attempt to make you edgier. You like your high school T-shirt collection, so you have to say goodbye.

9. The Beauty Queen

This girl is so hot that you can’t believe you snagged her. Your friends are envious and guys’ heads turn when she walks into the room. It’s pretty cool, until you realize you don’t really have much to talk about, since you have nothing in common. You try to make it work anyway, until you realize that she isn’t being ironic with her taste in music. While you’re in the middle of breaking up with her, a guy drives up in a BMW and asks her on a date.

10. The One

This girl is smart, beautiful, sweet, and is so great that you mom forgets about the other girl she liked so much. She laughs at your jokes, and you laugh at hers. Your taste in music, movies, and books is weirdly similar, and her friends get along with your friends. You wonder what you did to deserve someone so wonderful. Oh right, it was dating all those other girls.

RomanceWould You Date A Guy Whose Best Friend Is A Woman? MUST Read by Rowlandjude(op): 6:56pm On Jun 07, 2015
Believe it or not, men who have female best friends make far better partners.
Would you be OK with your man having close female friends?”
I understand the feelings behind this. No one wants to have the worry that their significant other is going to cheat on them. If your boyfriend likes girls, and you’re the only girl he spends any significant time with, then that pretty much means he’s safely yours, right?
Well, no, not really.
I think that not only should we be OK with our partners having close friends who are the same gender as us, it’s something we should want. In other words, I prefer to date men who have close female friends.
See, when a man has close female friends as well as close male friends, it means a few things.
First, how sad must your relationship be if your trust in your significant other is so flimsy that you believe the only way to keep them from not cheating on you is to keep them away from anyone they might potentially find sexually attractive?
Think about it. If the only thing that’s stopping your boyfriend from cheating on you is he hasn’t been given the opportunity, then you’re in a pretty awful relationship that’s guaranteed to end badly.

The fact is, if your boyfriend is going to cheat on you, it’s going to happen sooner or later. I’d rather date a guy who’s trustworthy.
Of course, you might just think no guys at all can be trusted to be left alone with women without having sex with them, or that no single women can be trusted to be left alone with taken men without having sex with them. If that’s really how you see the world then I just kinda feel a little sorry for you.
Second, it means, or should mean if he’s not a hypocrite, that he will be comfortable with you having close male friends, and my friends are far too important for me to abandon or avoid some of them just because they’re male.
I know some people would say “my husband’s my best friend, so I don’t need anyone else!” Frankly I find that a little creepy.I don’t know how these people function, but even though my fiancé is of course my best friend I still need my non-romantic, close friendships with people who are not family in my life.
Finally, it means he has women in his life who he values for their friendship alone, rather than for the amount of sex he can get out of them.
He views women as humans and equals – people he can talk to, trust, and rely on – rather than mere sex objects. This can only be a good thing. It means he will be able to see you as an equal that he can talk to, trust, and rely on.
If your boyfriend only values women he can have sex with, then how can you expect him to value you for anything other than sex?
And if your boyfriend is unused to having interactions with women that are not strictly romantic or sexual, how can you expect him to be able to understand and relate to you?
The fact is, one of the best ways to learn how to relate to others who are different to us is through friendships. When a person limits their friendships only to people who represent their gender, (or race, or sexual orientation, or anything else for that matter) they risk seeing anyone who doesn’t fit into that group as alien and “other”.
It’s easy to empathise with a friend, but it’s really hard to empathise with someone who is “other”.
That’s how you get these “men are from Mars and women are from Venus” situations, where women tell each other that all men are dogs, while men tell each other that “bitches be crazy”.
So I’m going to go ahead and say it: Not only should you be OK with dating a guy whose best friend is a woman, you should actively look at strong friendships with other women as a major bonus in a guy.

PoliticsNew PDP Bot Chair Appeals To Members To Stop Blame Game Over Poll Loss by Rowlandjude(op): 6:51am On Jun 01, 2015
The newly-appointed acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, on Sunday appealed to members and supporters of the party to stop the blame game over the party’s recent electoral loss to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mohammed pledged to partner with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to return PDP to the grassroots.

In a statement issued and made available to THISDAY by his Special Assistant on Media, Emeka Kanu-Nwapa, the PDP BoT chairman, while addressing scores of leaders and members of the party who paid him solidarity visits from across the country following his recent appointment, stressed that rather than dissipate energy on blaming and pointing fingers at one another over the outcome of the recent general elections, they should brace up, close ranks and devise workable ways and means of reinventing the party as a true national party which many Nigerians have known since 1999.

Waxing philosophical, he said what happened during the last elections was not as important as the aftermath, contending that “what happens when a man falls is not as important as what he does after the fall.”

Mohammed argued that the 2015 election was PDP’s defining moment which was only capable of bending it but cannot break it.

According to the statement, the former defence minister said: “This is not the time for finger-pointing and apportioning blames. This is the time to overlook the shortcomings of one another and look at the positive side so that we can put our wisdom together and move the party forward in furtherance of the excellent democratic profile which our great party has earned among Nigerians over the years.”

He emphasised that time had come to take the party back to the people at the grassroots where it was rooted, pointing out that that is the only veritable means of reconnecting the party with the people particularly those who left it after feeling disgruntled at the way they were treated and handled.

The PDP chieftain who led PDP to win the 2011 presidential election as the acting national chairman further said the BoT, under his watch, would work closely and harmoniously with the party’s NWC to drive the party in the direction that gives opportunity to all members to contribute meaningfully to the process of reinventing the party in line with the dream of its founding fathers.

“There will be a deliberate and conscious effort at working closely and harmoniously with the NWC because we don’t want a situation where we create a sense of rivalry. This distinction is very important. We shall work with the NWC and advise appropriately on the way forward aimed at devising schemes and strategies capable of bringing the party to its full glory,” the statement quoted the BoT chairman as saying.

Urging all party members and loyalists to make themselves available for the urgent task ahead, he expressed optimism that the revitalised PDP would offer an opposition platform that is creative, credible, corrective and supportive in the propagation of excellent democratic norms for the collective benefit of Nigeria and its good people.

“We shall therefore continue to give true meaning and essence of opposition because ours will not be opposition for opposition’s sake. We shall have no space for red-herring or rumour-mongering because this nation is bigger than that. Whenever we see the government derailing or faltering, we shall draw their attention in the interest of the collective good. With diligence, we will offer an alternative platform for the Nigerian people to choose in 2019,” Mohammed said.

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue the masses “from the emperors called governors” and check them from plundering resources meant for the common good of all.

The organisation also urged him to issue a directive that no public official should fly First Class with public funds.

The CSN through its two organs, Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria and Justice Development and Peace Commission, also expressed belief that having been proven to be corruption-free, “Buhari is in the best position to lead a moral revolution that will strengthen the institutions of state in Nigeria.”

The Executive Secretary of CCFN and National Secretary of JDPC, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, in a statement congratulating Buhari on his inauguration on Sunday in Abuja, said his emergence would “re-establish our hope for a Nigeria that is not only an economic leader but also a moral leader in the comity of nations.”

In accordance with his inaugural speech, CSN pleaded with Buhari to “rescue the ordinary Nigerian from the emperors called governors, who usually take it as their pride of place to plunder at will the resources meant for the common good of all.”

Although state governors cannot be prosecuted because of the immunity clause in the 1999 Constitution, the organisation said they “should be constantly investigated by security agencies and the outcome used as a basis for a regular chat between the President and the governors so that in a proactive manner, the President will constantly remind the governors to direct the resources of states to the common good.”

Bassey said, “We welcome the fact that Buhari flew back to Nigeria in an economy class, and urge that a directive be issued as quickly as possible that no public official should travel first class with public funds, as this action alone can save millions of Naira which could transform whole communities.

“We believe that having been proven to be corruption-free, Muhammadu Buhari is in the best position to lead a moral revolution that will strengthen the institutions of state and the rule of law and lead Nigeria into a pride of place in which the black man will be respected all over the world.”

While reiterating the fact that infrastructural development was important, the CSN said “what is more important is to rebuild our bastardised psyche and broken trust in government through prudent management, transparency and accountability and thereby restore the confidence of ordinary Nigerians in government.”

PoliticsI Won’t Enter Govt House Until September –wike by Rowlandjude(op): 5:37am On Jun 01, 2015
The RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Sunday that he would stay away from the Government House in Port Harcourt for the next three months as a result of the vandalisation of the property in the place by the immediate past administration.

Wike, who spoke at the post-inauguration thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, disclosed that all the vehicles in the Government House had been taken away.

The governor disclosed that he noticed that the bullet proof doors, furniture, cars, crested carpets, curtains and windows were not left behind by the former administration.

Wike explained that he was able to observe the missing items during an inspection of the Government House after he was sworn in as the state’s chief executive.

He said, “As I speak with you, everything has been vandalised. I will not enter the Government House in the next two or three months. There is no vehicle in Government House, not even one. Yet the former governor (Rotimi Amaechi) talks about corruption.”

The governor assured the people that he would not disappoint them and the Peoples Democratic Party.

In his remark, the Senate President, David Mark, expressed optimism that the PDP would return to power at the federal level in 2019 as Nigerians would yearn for the party after four years of the APC regime.

Mark noted that most of the party’s achievements would be glaring to Nigerians within a short period.

The post inauguration thanksgiving service reception was attended by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senators-elect from the South-South and South-East, Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus and members of the National Working Committee of the PDP.

Meanwhile, the former Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha, has described Wike’s claim that the facility was vandalised by the Amaechi administration as false.

Okocha maintained that the property in the Government House were intact before the immediate past administration left.

CrimeDays Of Corrupt Officers Are Over – IGP Arase by Rowlandjude(op): 1:42pm On May 31, 2015
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/days-of-corrupt-officers-are-over-igp-arase/

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, in this interview, says policing Nigeria effectively is not about large numbers or building of a big technological operation laden with big machinery, but about tact, thinking out of the box and applying available, easy to acquire technology as well as training and motivating the manpower.
With security challenges and criminality facing the nation, what should the citizenry expect under your watch?
I have come in at a very defining moment in our national life and I know that the expectations are high. I have been in the system for quite some time too, and I have been in very strategic positions in the force. The Nigeria Police houses the best you can have in the system, but I think that what we have not been able to do over the years is to build on the capacity of our officers. So, one of the areas I am very interested in is trying to de-segregate our needs assessment and look at the areas where we should lay emphasis on, and give my officers training that would make them perform; be it administration operations, investigation or intelligence. Whichever of those areas we want to look at, we should be able to develop the capacity of the officers to deliver on their mandate.
The other area is our relationship and the public perception of the Nigeria Police. We have a negative public perception, whether rightly or wrongly. Perception is a subjective issue, but there are some certain things that members of the public expect a good policeman to do. They would not want a police officer to be corrupt; they would want him to be civil; they would want him to be polite; they would want him to treat Nigerians with respect. And if the tax payers feel their money is spent on you as of right, they will demand a lot of things from you. At the same time, we will be able to see how we can connect with the community.
There is no police force in the world that can perform without information from members of the community. So you must be able to win the confidence of the community for you to be able to get that information. I think it’s going to be a two – way thing; we want to look at our society, all the strategic stakeholders, the non-state actors and say, ‘look, this is your police force, you cannot go and bring a police force from anywhere else in the world’.
If you look at policing in Europe, America or Britain, they have gone through this process of redefining, remodelling and it’s not a fixed thing. Members of the public should also learn to be very patient with the police. I will give you an example. Maybe a murder case occurs. Nigerians are very anxious for the police to get it resolved and they don’t take into consideration the limitations that police are working with. When you talk about the depth of the average policeman, the professionalism, it is not enough for him to confront the issues he is dealing with especially since there is no technical platform to back it up.If you go through central London in a period of maybe three to four hours, you are captured within the system, and in case anything happens, it’s just to zero in there. That is why the Metropolitan Police has 90 percent success rate in terms of homicide cases because you cannot do it and escape the eagle eye of their surveillance system. Intelligence is key and I don’t want a situation where people are detained unnecessarily.
I expect that my policemen are sufficiently trained to say if a case is reported to them they are able to gather evidential proof. In bank robberies for example, you can get records from the banks or corporate affairs; you assemble these things before you invite suspects. That way you limit the pre-trial detention period of suspects because if you invite somebody and keep him in custody and then start looking for evidence, the period you have kept him there is very long and the relations come and start asking for bail. Once they start asking for bail, the corruption circle is enabled because to grant that bail you start putting conditions here and there.
In the final analysis, money changes hands. So those areas where I know are capable of exposing my officers to corruption, I want to remove them from the system. I have already directed that on no account should anybody be invited to any police station when you don’t have sufficient evidence; if you have the evidence and you confront the person within 48 hours, you should be able to make up your mind if the truth is being told or you should keep the person in custody.
What do you have to say on the belief that compared to Nigeria’s population, the number of policemen is small and equipment not enough?
You can never have sufficient policemen to police 170 million Nigerians. People always brag about the United Nations ratio. Even that one you can only situate it against societies that already have a very good technical platform like the one i talked about in the USA and Britain. We don’t have the technical platform, so no matter what people try to do now, what you do is feasibility policing; your ability to do prediction policing where you position your men strategically so that you give that psychological reassurance that the society is being policed. For Abuja for example, instead of dotting the whole streets with police officers, you can position strategically so that anywhere you go or by the time you are driving from Shehu Shagari Way to the other place, you see them at the junction; you go the other way, you see them at a junction; it does not presuppose that you have sufficient manpower and there is no police force in the world that would ever say they have sufficient manpower to police and that is why community partnership in policing is very, very important to win the confidence of the community; when you do that, half of your job is done. Somebody sees a person who has packed for a long period in a lonely street or somewhere, he picks a phone and calls the nearest police officer. But here most of us don’t care, as far as it does not affect you.
During your maiden address to police officers, you emphasized the use of technology. How do you intend to achieve this with the cash crunch facing the Federal Government?
I will give you an example. I set up the intelligence laboratory in the Nigeria Police. The intelligence department had become moribund after about 30 years of the excision of the NSO to form what you now know as the State Security Service (SSS). Since then, we have not been able to emplace a department to drive policing through predictive concept and it took us about two years to redirect what intelligence is all about.
My ability to train the officers to know that they can always ascertain the trends and patterns of crime, crime mappings in their various states and divisions and area commands has improved investigation a lot. For instance, as I sit down here, with the intelligence department that we set up some 2 years ago, we can give you statistics of kidnapping cases, the manpower wastages by operational loses; we can locate and tell you where those crimes are prevalent; what are the types of crimes that are prevalent in those areas. When we talk about technology, you think about warehousing a big building like this with heavy machines. It is not so, it is about thinking outside the box. We said we were going to set up intelligence lab, we got a server, we got computer systems, we trained the men, we gave them phones, put them on Skype.
So all my information collectors in all the states of the federation, once they get information, they send it to me and it hits my intelligence lab. The intelligence lab., the boys there who analyse start drawing the graphs, putting it in intelligible form so that if you are going to my office, you can see it being expressed both graphically and otherwise. So, when you talk about technology driving this thing, it is not about something too big, it’s about the mindset of the officers who are going to operate the system. If crime has become scientific and technological, then the response to it is for the officers who are supposed to respond to it to be mentally mobile
. They should be in a situation where they should be able to think outside the box. The technology I am talking about is very simple. We migrated from intelligence laboratory, from finger printing, in a short while, into an automated system where we want to give you your character certificate. What does it cost us? A laptop, a camcorder, the biometric machine. I now said how many cases do they report in the force on a daily basis; on a weekly basis?; because when I came I said ‘you are not going to investigate land cases; commercial transactions; you are not going to investigate civil cases because those are the areas you carry people, you lock them up and another person is somewhere demolishing the person’s house especially in Lagos’.
Reform is something people always react negatively to, the men there, some of them went haywire; they wrote some newspapers. I have asked them not to move anywhere to go and investigate cases. I said I am going to open a case tracking and analysis centre. I got the UNODC to fix the thing there. So, for any case that is reported, I endorse it to them, to go into that case tracking and analysis data base centre.
On weekly basis, as they complain I was not allowing them to do cases, I would roll out the statistics of the cases given to the SFU, the federal SARS, general investigation and ask them to give me the report on those cases because it is not enough for you to take a case, obtain statement from the complainant, obtain statement from the suspect, you release him on bail, you close the file and keep it somewhere. We insisted that all cases, whether you are going to categorise them as malicious, vexatious or something that can be prosecuted, must be carried out to their conclusion and technology is there in the Force CID, in the intelligence department. So when i talk about platform, it is not something that you conjure from the moon. The small technology that you need to perform effectively as a police officer is easy to access.
Road blocks are a recurring decimal as far as the Nigeria Police is concerned. How do you intend to deal with this?
I have dismantled them. I have set up a taskforce with 12 vehicles for the six geo-political zones that are co-terminus with the ones that have been supervised by the various DIGS and all I have asked them to do is a very simple task, ‘I pay your bills, I gave you the vehicle, I fuel it and you go there wherever you see those road blocks, remove them from the highway and just note where they are and hold the commissioner of police responsible’ because I have already directed I will hold the Area Commander responsible and I will hold the Divisional Police Officer responsible.
Secondly, they are supposed to go to the cells to inquire when people kept there were arrested, for what offence, how long have they been there, do they meet the prosecutors’ standard of keeping those people in our facilities. We don’t intend to harass any policeman on the highway but you just have to say that these things are point of corruption. And corruption is intolerable, but then we are not saying we are going to leave the public space vacant, we have the Federal Highway Patrol which all the state commissioners are supposed to oversee.
So, in case of distress, the vacuum that may have been created by the removal of those road blocks, we have vehicles that have been given to all state commands, and I have also asked them to give me where those vehicles are located so that if there is any serious crime on any highway, I hold the commissioner who said he has deployed on those highway responsible. You cannot remove road blocks and say you are not going to police; it is our statutory responsibility to police the public space. On equipping the police, the economic downturn that is outside is something I cannot speak about. I can only articulate the needs of the police but I don’t have the resources directly. We have other departments that oversight the police, the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Senate Committee; the Police Service Commission is for recruitment and discipline. Operationally, it’s outside the way but the ones that impinge directly on the operational capacity of the police is the ministry because they are the ones who keep our money as oversight function.
On corruption, a policeman is corrupt because he is not sure of the future. If he thinks that his future is not guaranteed, the tendency to be corrupt is high and also don’t forget that corruption is pathological. Once you are corrupt, if I put you where they distribute stationery, you will still steal it. We have areas where we can touch the lives of our officers especially the rank and file, we have a cooperative society, we have mortgage institution; we have the microfinance bank to dispense welfare programmes. In our works department, we have been able to attract the best brains we can get from the system; there are quantity surveyors, there are civil engineers.
Now we have an investment department; why can’t we get finance from our mortgage institution and the cooperative society and do direct labour stuff? Now we are going to build some houses for our workforce. We are thinking about two-bedroom apartment somewhere where they would not have to pay N2.5-N3 million if it is direct labour. We also have a scholarship scheme for children of the rank and file. If you have bright children, we can give scholarship to not more than two of them in police secondary school or any other place you want them to go to; the Turkish International School has given us a slot too. There are small things you can use to motivate your workforce.

PoliticsSenate Presidency And The Lawan-akume Deal: End Of Discussion by Rowlandjude(op): 1:04pm On May 31, 2015
In my two previous interventions on the issue, I had tried to offer some illuminations as to the path the APC should take in the tricky circumstance in which it had found itself, especially with some audacious members poised to go the whole hog in the battle for the coveted seat of Senate president.
The trio of Senators Bukola Saraki, George Akume and Ahmad Lawan had thrown their hats in the ring. They brought a large dose of intrigues and horse-trading into the mix.
The themes of the first article titled: “Senate Presidency: Considering the Akume, Lawan Options” and the second article, titled: “Senate Presidency, Speakership: the Conversation Continues” favoured both Akume and Lawan Senate presidency.
It was pretty difficult for me in my first outing to prop up one against the other. I had simply navigated the turbulence by proposing an Akume Senate presidency if the APC ceded the position to the North Central and a Lawan Senate presidency if the party decided to cede it to the North-East zone.

Danjuma Goje, Bukola Saraki,Abdullahi Adamu and George Akume
That was quite explicable: both aspirants are very good, meritorious, experienced and, in the legislative parlance, ranking senators. In other words, either of them would make a good Senate president; or put differently, both of them have all the requisite qualifications to occupy the office. In my second outing, after the APC had discountenanced the factor of zoning, I weighed all the aspirants on the scale of merit, experience and ranking and concluded that while Saraki failed to measure up, both Akume and Lawan were spot-on in their claims on merit, experience and ranking.
My argument was that overall Akume would appear to have a head start over Lawan, apparently guided by the Senate standing rule. Whereas, Lawan was a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007 before his election into the Senate in 2007, the same year Akume got elected into the Senate, in determining ranking, the Senate rule does not take into account the fact of previous membership of the either the state legislature or House of Representatives. That makes both Akume and Lawan equal in terms of length of tenure. The head-start, which Akume has over Lawan, as I argued, is the fact that Akume has been a principal officer, to wit: Senate Minority Leader since 2011.
By virtue of that seniority, now that the APC, which he leads as Minority Leader in the Senate, has become a majority party, Akume should have been allowed to progress into the position of Senate president in line with the convention of leadership by progression in advanced democracies.
In the same vein, I had argued that the Minority Leader in the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, should also have been allowed to progress to become Speaker. Those were the frontiers of the conversation that I continued to expand in my second intervention before the horse-trading that redefined the shape and course of the race for the senate presidency.
Although, I came short of suggesting that Akume and Lawan should agree to step down for each other so that one would pick the position of Senate President and the other Deputy Senate President simply because I did not want to offend the sensibilities of either of these solid candidates, it was gratifying when the APC Senators Unity Forum, a group comprising 37 out of the 60 members-elect, got Akume to step down for Lawan so that Lawan would emerge as Senate President and Akume as Deputy Senate President.
That move gave birth to a very solid APC bloc in the emergent 8th Senate, leaving Saraki with the support of 23 senators to search for support in the PDP caucus to shore up his dwindling fortunes. Knowing the Senate politics and politicking as one does, the acclaimed 23-member Saraki Like Minds group cannot remain intact between now and the day of inauguration.
Saraki will steadily lose some of his supporters, who would not want to miss out in the chairmanship of standing committees, to the Lawan-Akume group, which looks good to clinch the presiding officers’ slots.
Having sat back to consider all the indices on ground, it was clear that the only way to breeze past Saraki was for Lawan and Akume to present a tag team or joint ticket. That worked perfectly for them. It also bolstered the support for the ticket among senators of the PDP caucus.
Lawan is believed to enjoy the solid support of the outgoing Senate President, David Mark. Mark is very influential and would be instrumental to securing the support of a majority of the 49-member PDP Senate caucus for Lawan-Akume ticket.Saraki will get his share of support from the PDP caucus, no doubt. That is the scenario to expect.

PoliticsUPDATED] S’court Affirms Aregbesola’s Victory, Dismisses Omisore’s Appeal by Rowlandjude(op): 12:30pm On May 27, 2015
The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, against the election of the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The seven-man panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Fabiyi, affirmed the concurrent judgments of the Court of Appeal in Akure‎ and the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal, which had both affirmed Aregbesola the winner of the election.

Justice C.C Nweze, who read the lead judgment, resolved six out of the seven issues formulated by the appellant against him.

Only one was resolved in his favour and against the respondents.

The seven-man panel unanimously held that the appeal lacked merit and was bound to be dismissed.

Omisore, who was personally present in court during the hearing, urged the apex court through his counsel, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN), ‎to set aside the concurrent judgments of the two lower courts.

Omisore and his party had filed the appeals against the decisions of the Justice Gana Mshelia-led panel of the Court of Appeal ‎in Akure which on April 2, 2015, affirmed the earlier judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime-led‎ tribunal had on February 6, 2015 dismissed Omisore’s petition for lacking in merit and affirmed Aregbesola’s victory.

10:55am

The Supreme Court is currently delivering it’s judgment in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, against the election of the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The seven-man panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Fabiyi, had on May 7 fixed the date for judgment after parties adopted and argued their respective briefs.

Omisore, who was personally present in court during the hearing, urged the apex court through his counsel, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN), ‎to set aside the concurrent judgments of the two lower courts.

Omisore and his party had filed the appeals against the decisions of the Justice ‎ Justice Gana Mshelia-led panel of the Court of Appeal ‎in Akure which on April 2, 2015, affirmed the earlier judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime-led‎ tribunal had on February 6, 2015 dismissed Omisore’s petition for lacking in merit and affirmed Aregbesola’s victory.

Izinyon, who filed two separate appeals on behalf of Omisore and the PDP challenging the decision of the Court of Appeal, urged the Supreme Court to‎ allow his appeals and dismiss the cross-appeal filed by Aregbesola and the APC.

One of the appellants’ appeals emanated from the main judgment of the Court of Appeal while the other appeal and the respondents’ cross-appeal arose from the decision of the appellate court on the admissibility of a d‎ocument in favour of the petitioners at the tribunal.

But the three respondents to the appeals – Aregbesola, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission – who were represented by different lawyers, separately urged the court to dismiss the ‎appeals.

Izinyon, who led other five SANs and a battery of other junior lawyers, while arguing the appellants briefs, argued that both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal identified irregularities characterising the conduct of the election but refused to make the proper findings concerning them.

Details later. . .

PoliticsRivers Killings: Amaechi, Wike In War Of Words by Rowlandjude(op): 12:05pm On May 27, 2015
THE feud between the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and the Governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, reached a boiling point on Tuesday when the former accused the latter of being responsible for the deaths recorded in the state during the 2015 general elections.

Amaechi had declared during a public lecture in Port Harcourt to mark his 50th birthday that God would not allow a killer to be the governor of Rivers State.

But Wike, who had attended another public lecture in the state capital, said he had no record of killing anybody and expressed displeasure that a public officer like Amaechi could speak in manner that was not expected of him.

Wike expressed optimism that he would be sworn in as the governor of the state on May 29, despite moves by Amaechi to scuttle his inauguration.

Speaking further, Amaechi stated that the governor-elect should realise that he (Wike) was his chief of staff, adding that Wike’s record was with him.

Explaining that he will never kill anybody because of personal ambition, the governor dismissed Wike’s description of him (Amaechi) as a corrupt person, adding that the governor-elect was accusing him of corruption because he (Wike) was looking for a way to negotiate with him (Amaechi) and his supporters.

Amaechi said, “In a bid for Wike to be governor, he hired …. an ex-militant. They killed a young man in Okrika and cut off his private parts. They slashed a young man’s throat and decided to hang his head on a tree.

“When I wanted to become governor, God took me aside and allowed Rivers people to vote for Celestine Omehia and He brought me back. So, nobody died. In 2011, the opposition joined us to vote for us; nobody died.

“But because of one man’s ambition, we were losing human beings everyday. Walking like a thug, killing people like a thug. The God I worship will answer our prayers. God will not allow those who kill people to be governor of Rivers State. God will allow only those who worship Him. I am not perfect.

“Even some of you pray more than me. My priest told me God said we would defeat Nyesom Wike. God said so. The same way God told me in 2007 that I would be governor. God will not allow us to make a killer, somebody who has killed human beings, to become the governor of Rivers State.

“I have been listening to Mr. Nyesom Wike and I have been trying not to reply him. He has been accusing me of corruption and I have been trying to keep quiet over the issue of corruption. A thief cannot call me corrupt. The first lesson he needs to learn is that he was Chief of Staff to my government. If I have no records, I have records on him.

“Why Nyesom Wike is talking the way he is talking is that they are looking for us to come and negotiate with them, so that they can illegally stay in office. They cannot stay like that. We are already in court (tribunal),” Amaechi said.

Recalling how he decided not to probe his predecessor, Dr. Peter Odili, the governor pointed out that the people would at the end ask him about his achievements and not the number of people his administration probed. However, Wike, who spoke through his Media aide, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, added that Amaechi’s comment against him was an indication that the governor was not worthy of holding public office.

He said, “Only a man who is irresponsible would make such a comment. It shows that he is not worthy of the public office he occupies. He (Amaechi) is making comments that are completely out of place for people who should be in leadership position.

“To begin with and contrary to what Governor Amaechi said, the governor-elect is a God-fearing person, who believes in the rule of law. He is not involved in any killing and he will never be involved. He has never done anything that is outside of the law.

“Such unguarded comments should be disregarded by members of the public and well-meaning persons just like Channels Television did and apologised seriously to Nigerians. Amaechi promoted insecurity everywhere.

“God has already made it possible for Barrister Nyesom Wike to be governor. The people have already endorsed it as they voted for him massively. Amaechi is too small to stop the will of the people. On May 29, 2015, that will would be consummated during the swearing-in of Barrister Nyesom Wike.”

Crime100 Killed In Benue Communities, Refugee Camps by Rowlandjude(op): 6:05am On May 26, 2015
MAKURDI—Over 100 persons, mostly women, children and the elderly, were feared killed early Sunday morning in villages and refugee camps located at Ukura, Gafa, Per and Tse-Gusa in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, in one of the bloodiest attacks on Benue communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The areas, which until the latest onslaught, hosted most refugees from previous attacks by the herdsmen, is where the home town of Governor Gabriel Suswam is located.
Vanguard learned from a reliable source that some of the attackers dressed in military uniform, stormed the affected villages in large numbers and after sacking the communities, matched into the camps and opened sustained fire on the helpless refugees.
He said: “What happened was like a war situation where people were killed like animals, irrespective of their ages and gender. This is, indeed, a sad day for the people of Benue State.
“At the moment, a mass burial is taking place for the over 100 victims whose bodies have so far been recovered.
“Most of them were women, children and the elderly, and they are decomposing already.
“Search for more bodies is still ongoing in the area, because so many persons are still missing and unaccounted for.”
Govt confirms killings
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Media Affairs, Mr. Joseph Anawa, confirmed the incident.
He said: “Indeed, over 100 people were killed last Sunday morning when heavily armed suspected Fulani herdsmen, some of whom were dressed in military uniform, stormed the communities from Kente in neighbouring Taraba State.
“They attacked the villages and refugee camps at Ukura, Gafa, Per and Tse-Gusa, where they began shooting indiscriminately at the people at 4a.m. and continued till 10.30a.m.
“As we speak, the communities have been sacked, hundreds of houses, huts, farmland and property worth millions of naira have been destroyed and the inhabitants and survivors have all fled their homes and the communities.”
Neighbours flee
Vanguard further learned that the development had sparked a mass movement of thousands of people, who are fleeing their communities for fear of being attacked and killed by the marauding herdsmen.
Reacting to the development, the paramount ruler of the area, Tor Sankera, Chief Terkura Suswam, who described the attack as unfortunate and condemnable, said he was collaborating with other traditional rulers in the area and the Fulani herdsmen to find a lasting solutions to the problem.
