The antibiotics would subdue the inflammation of the appendix and thus the swelling and pain subsides. We call this measure Ochsner-Sherren regimen. But the appendix wouldn't disappear. It'll just go back to the way it was before the inflammation
Like I told you, xrays are not for visualizing inflammed appendices. An ultrasound scan may, but its not always reliable and picks up a small percentage of inflammed appendices, thus we don't rely on it. It's mostly a clinical management ish
What you should understand
1. Your dad had subacute appendicitis
2. It got resolved by conservative measures instituted by the docs
3. It wasn't an X-ray he got. Maybe an ultrasound but then no doc would pin a diagnosis on ultrasound
4. The appendix never disappeared

If it didn't disappear, how come he didn't experience the ailment anymore? By saying the drugs pushed the appendix back to where it was before the inflammation, it means appendix is a normal part of the human anatomy.

Now, another question is, since my dad never depended on drugs to manage it all through his life, does that mean that the drugs brought him permanent healing?

They are not radio-opaque. Most times its a clinical diagnosis borne out of history and exams. The investigations r conducted to back up the diagnosis

Okay. In 1990, I wasn't a full blown adult. No one gave me a factual report of what exactly happened. All I know about the issue are things I heard in discussions made by the adults of those days. Perhaps, if I ask my mum who's still alive, she'll furnish me with the exact details of what happened.

But I know my dad had appendix because being his firstborn, he told me. He also at the time spoke to me to take care of my younger ones, just like someone anticipating his own death. And I also know for sure that he didn't do the said surgery.
