Germany's government says it's getting out of the business of defending the honor of foreign leaders.

Justice Minister Heiko Maas on Wednesday said Germany was abolishing a law requiring the government's permission to allow the prosecution of anyone deemed to have insulted a foreign head of state, saying it was "outdated and unnecessary."Last year, the German government was put in the awkward position of having to grant a Turkish request to allow prosecutors to investigate a TV comic who wrote a crude poem about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Prosecutors later dropped the investigation of comic Jan Boehmermann, citing insufficient evidence that he committed any crime.

The case had complicated already tense relations between Berlin and Ankara.

Insulted foreign leaders can still pursue their own libel and defamation cases.

The sudden death of a 34-year-old mother of two identified as Mrs Gloria Samson in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has been blamed on the notorious ponzi scheme, Mavrodi Mundial Money box (MMM).

According to reports, the woman was said to have left her home on December 28, 2016 to drown herself in River Benue as her body was discovered on January 2, 2017 by police.

The deceased reportedly decided to take her life after the freezing of MMM because she had obtained loans in four places and invested it in the ponzi scheme of Russian origin.

It was gathered that when she was leaving the house, she was said to have pleaded with her children to forgive her and at the same time told the children to tell their father to forgive her as well.

The deceased’s neighbors at Vandeikiya street, High level in Makurdi, disclosed to newsmen that she had borrowed about N400,000 from different micro finance banks and invested it in MMM only for the scheme to announce a freeze on cashing out a few days after her investment.

“What we gathered is that she had borrowed money from four different places and invested in MMM but shortly after MMM suspended payment to subscribers, she withdrew to her shell,” one of the deceased's neighbours said.

Thw late woman's husband, Samson David, confirmed that he was aware his wife took loans, but he could not confirm if she actually invested it in MMM.

“Towards November and December, 2016, I discovered she took loan from four places over N400,000.00, but I don’t know what she actually did with the money because this time there was nothing in the shop to suggest that she invested the money into her business and truly she took loans.”

The state police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu confirmed that the Police actually recovered the body of a woman from River Benue, adding that she was buried last Friday at the Ankpa ward public cemetery

Usain Bolt has been stripped of one of his nine Olympic titles.

The sprinter was stripped of his title after one of his Jamaican 4x100m team-mates with whom he won gold at the 2008 Games, tested positive for a banned substance.

The world’s greatest track-and-field star can no longer lay claim to the title of "triple-triple" Olympic champion after Nesta Carter was caught out in the reanalysis of urine and blood samples from the Beijing Games.
Carter, the sixth fastest 100m runner of all time, ran the opening leg of the Olympic final eight years ago as Jamaica stormed to victory in a world-record 37.10sec, helping Bolt to a clean sweep of sprint titles as he burst onto the global stage at his first Games.

However, news emerged last summer that Carter was on a list of 31 athletes who failed a retest of their doping samples, which took place using the latest scientific techniques in order to weed out drugs cheats ahead of Rio 2016.

The Jamaican did not compete in Rio and has been fighting to clear his name, but the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday confirmed his sample had tested positive for the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine.

All four members of the Jamaican relay team – which also included Michael Frater and Asafa Powell – have now been stripped of their medals, ruining Bolt’s perfect Olympic record of 100m, 200m and 4x100m triumphs.

Where art thou?

The Redeemed Christian Church of GOD (RCCG) has said that the doctrine of the mission does not support get rich quick schemes.

This was made known in a memo addressed to pastors in charge of regions and provinces, by the General Secretary of the church, Pastor Johnson Odesola, on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.Pastor Odesola stated in the memo that some pastors and staff of the mission are getting themselves involved in all manner of money-making schemes, to the extent of using the platform of the church to promote same.

He advised those who are involved in such to desist forthwith, as disciplinary actions will be taken against those found culpable.

The memo read that “please be informed that the doctrine of the church does not support get rich quick schemes, gambling, betting, etc in any form.

“God is and remains our supplier by the application of biblical principles of working diligently with our hands.

“All senior pastors are hereby authorized to ensure no one uses the pulpit or any platform of the RCCG to promote any such schemes.”

Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, is still insisting that the story of the missing Chibok girls is a ruse and that some of the girls that were found and rescued by the Nigerian Army, were trained to act for Nigerians. Fayose said this on an interview with Channels TV

"The story of Chibok girls is a ruse. I have been saying this, a complete rouse. Those girls were trained to act for Nigerians. I am telling you. This story will come back one day. I don't hide to say it. I said it before. Let me say it again I stand here to say it clearly that the Chibok girls story was orchestrated to take President Jonathan out of office. You say over 200 girls are missing. They are Physics students. When they were found, they could not speak English. If they say these Chibok girls have been found, what are they still doing in the custody of the Federal government. If my son was taken away for over 2 years, the joy of my son coming home alone is enough"he said
Fayose said the recent photos of parents of some of the Chibok girls crying and rejoicing when their daughters were found last year, was rehearsed

"You can rehearse with a parent to act and even cry. Its all theater. Have you not seen people doing theater? Don't you see people you see about a minute ago crying? This is another theater. Do you recall when the Chibok organization wanted to take the President on and it became an issue, two or three week after, some of the girls were found".

Every day truly is a testimony. Its a brand new day in the new week and as everyman leaves for his or her place of work, such happens to the passengers of this bus. They board a bus going to Ajah, but not all got to their destination. This accident occurred at 9:25 am at Lekki Phase 1 bus stop. A commercial bus failed to brake and crashed off the road which led to the death of one person while several others were injured. The Lagos Rescue team arrived the scene to attend to the situation. More photos after the cut.

19 Northern state governors are meeting on Monday morning in Kaduna state, for the first meeting of the group in 2017.

The Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, is expected to preside over the meeting.

The meeting which would be holding at the Government House in Kaduna, would involve northern elders and traditional rulers who would be giving a briefing on the security situation across the northern states.

Elder statesman, Maitama Sule, would be in attendance and will be delivering a keynote address on the need for diversification on the economy of the northern state against the backdrop of the economic recession.

The northern states have faced tremendous security challenges since July 2009

This meeting is expected to address the issues raised and further unite the northern region.

In the most recent attack, Unknown gunmen attacked Zankan village in Kaura Local Government Area of the state, killing one person and injuring five others.

It was a serious drama at the Ikoyi registry yesterday after a young Nigerian man, 32 shouted in jubilation saying 'Help me thank God, I don marry Oyinbo!!!' after he married a white woman advanced in age.

According to the report by Chris Ayo Joseph, the incident caused a stir in the area. The young man is said to be a father of two from Ondo state and even has a wife. It is believed the harsh condition of things might have forced him into the act or it might just be true love. But, he couldn't hide his joy.Joseph who reported the news wrote: "Help Me Thank God...I Don Marry Oyinbo!!!

"Ba mi dupe luwo oluwa ooo.. Mo ti fe oyinbo, jesu seun" (Help me thank God, I've married a white). Those were the words of this young man while receiving a phone call, just after tying the knot with this white woman at the Ikoyi registry earlier today.

"Apparently, I was meant to understand that such thing happens almost everyday at the registry. Young Nigerian men come in with different foreign "oldie mama youngie's", all for the Paper's and the Chedda. It's more a like trend!

"Obviously, the desire to get a “by-fire-by-force green card” has really blinded alot of Nigerian men or how else does one explain why a 32 year old man would bring home a foreign grandmother for marriage without the elderly in his family berating him.

"Honestly, I thought the Yoruba has got culture. What has happened? Because the man in question is a Yoruba man, from Ondo State precisely.

"As a matter of fact, i was also rightly informed that the young man is married with two kids. Guess, his wife travelled or something, but his kids were present at the court wedding. And from where I sat, I overheard the kids calling him "Daddy..Daddy", and the man replied in Yoruba disgruntledly " E ma pe mi ni daddy mo, se e ti gbo". (Don't call me daddy, hope you've heard). At that point, i knew something funny was going on.

A man who was shot in the chest with an arrow was forced to travel 155 miles to hospital – and miraculously survived because the missile missed his heart by a whisker.

Doctors in India saved 24-year-old Mansiya, who travelled the long distance from his village Alirajpur with savage-looking arrows lodged in his chest, abdomen and hands after being rushed to a medical facility in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India.

It is claimed that Mansiya, who belongs to a tribal community, had an argument with a family member leading to the attack.

Doctors at the Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital were shocked when they saw the patient.

The first arrow lodged in his chest and missed his heart by inches. The second one pierced his abdomen and badly wounded his intestines.

A team of doctors, under the leadership of Dr Manish Kaushal, operated on the patient for around four and a half hours to pluck the arrows from his body.

I was just minding my business on instagram when I stumbled on a video former BBA Housemate Beverly Osu shared. I initially thought it was two girls who are friends fooling around but then I watched the video again...hmmm! They are kissing, holding each other intimately, telling each other they are gorgeous and Beverly said something about being in love makes one happy and happiness makes one look more beautiful. The Trump transition committee, Great Again, has denied reports in some sections of the media in Nigeria that President-elect Trump declined invitation to President Muhammadu Buhari and has instead invited former president Goodluck Jonathan to the U.S 45th presidential inauguration scheduled for Friday in Washington.

According to an official in Washington Thursday morning said that the inauguration was mostly a domestic event for America.

“The US State Department has advised that as in the past, foreign delegations will not be invited to Washington for the President-elect Trump’s 2017 inauguration and that heads of state and governments will be represented by chiefs of diplomatic missions in Washington,” the official said.

A twitter account of Deji Adeyanju, a PDP spokesperson also said that United States of America president-elect Donald Trump has invited ex-president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan to his inauguration on Friday, January 20, 2017.

A U.S State Department official said that “The ‘Heads of Mission’ are the only foreign officially invited. It will be an historic few days!” He further confirmed that one invitation card has been sent to the Nigerian Mission in Washington, DC.

According to the Great Again official, Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Committee has raised a record $90 million-plus in private donations, far more than President Barack Obama’s two inaugural committees.

But while Trump has raised more money for his inauguration than any president in history, lead inaugural planner Tom Barrack said theTrump team wants to avoid a “circus-like atmosphere” in favor of a more “back to work” mindset.

He said only few foreign leaders were invited, which includes Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister.

Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson also revealed Thursday that 28,000 officials are dedicated to security for the event, including 7,800 National Guard troops.

Yesterday, during the distribution exercise of blankets and cloths provided by IDPs Aid and Relief Foundation to displaced persons (IDPs) in selected host communities in Maiduguri, I was approached by some soldiers stationed in northern Borno who thought the items were for sale.

"Oga, na for sale? Cold dey that our side well well", a Warrant Officer said."No be for sale, sir. We dey divide am for IDPs", I replied.

They turned to leave, but I couldn't bear to let them go without giving them some of the items. After all, they are also victims of the situation, I thought. My only regret is that I didn't give them enough blankets to go round considering their number.

It's Army Remembrance Day today, the 15th of January. A day set aside to remember our fallen heroes who died so we could live, who don't sleep so we could sleep soundly and even snore, a day to remember those suffering under harsh conditions in Sambisa, Bita, Gudumbali, Kareto, Damasak, Doro Naira, Malumfatori, Ashigashigar, Buni Yadi, Kangarwa, Alagarno, Marte, Madagali, Banki and sundry places.

May the labour of our heroes, past and present, never be in vain.

Nigerians got talent...

Nigerians got talent. Despite the insurgencies in Borno and its environs, these did not deter the students from been creative and excelling in their fields. The idea was mooted quite some time ago. A need for a get together of techies and tech enthusiasts in Borno, where they can rub minds, collaborate on projects, start ventures, organize events and do things we couldn't even think of now.

So recently we started bringing the idea to life in the form of Borno Tech Forum. The main activity is the semi-formal fortnightly meeting which we have carried out two so far.

In the first one Abubakar Dala presented Blender, the open source 3D design software. He also introduced ArcGIS another open source software for Geographical Information System.

The second one is even more interesting. Harun Abubakar , an Engineering student from Unimaid presented his autonomous robot and a prototype of an alcohol detection system that can be incorporated in automobiles.

We made a small video of Harun's presentation because we think it will be nice to share it with the world.
