Namdeenero:I'd love to start an awareness program for dog owners in my locality educating them on the benefits of keeping their dogs fit and trim. I once visited a client I helped import a puppy and on getting there the dog which was about 2years old was so obese it had thick drool hanging down his mouth(imaging a gsd with thick drool), it was such an awful sight I had to go back home and bring one of my dogs that shares same sire with the clients dog..my main point of doing that was so he'll see the difference and how much he had destroyed that dog all in the name of keeping a well fed dog. A trim dog is not a thin dog but an healthy looking canine that his fit for whatever work it was purchased for. I believe the only way a shepherd can be below the height in the Breed standard is if it has a stunted growth or a mutt, but once it's within the height range stated in the Breed standard then it's fine..even if it's the minimum height stated within..A dog that his above the height range would most definitely not be registrable by most breed standards except about 5 generations of the particular dog are registered and none of the dogs where recorded to be above the height..then can the dog be registered. I'm quite sure steroids on a dog wouldn't affect the puppies but obesity if present in a large number of dogs down a bloodline can turn up anytime. 2 Likes |

A white patch on German shepherds is not a new thing and does not make it a mixed breed or mean the German shepherd blood in it is diluted. so many dogs with white patch on the paws or chest still win in shows abroad, as long as it's just a patch it's allowed by most major kennel registration body..but as a Breeder I'd stay of a dog with a white patch because it's all in the genes and can appear in supplus down the lineage. the above puppies are fine dogs. Note: I'm in no way confirming the purity of the puppies. |

I came accross this topic online and decided to throw it here. when we say over sized German shepherds we talk of German shepherds with sizes either weight or heights that exceeds the limits of the true German shepherds as written in the Breed standard, but can we say an oversized German shepherd is not a pure breed German shepherd?. Being a registered breeder of a German shepherd entails you breed your dogs according to what is written in the breed standard. I decided to breed Showline German shepherds for what they are (looks, courage, agility, strength and alertness), I won't because I'm a Breeder seize the opportunity to create or breed my dogs to mates that deviates from the true German shepherd all because I want to produce puppies I can sell for an higher price....while browsing the internet I see dogs with extremely small shouts like that of the mastiffs labeled as German shepherds or dogs that are as large as a Giant Alaskan malamute labeled as German shepherds and even here in Nigeria you see fake German shepherds on the internet and on the streets, some with short tails, extremely small/big paws, Ears growing in different dirrections like radio antennas and some even label mixed breeds as German shepherds here in Nigeria, if German shepherd breeders before us bred mutts and fake dogs the German shepherd wouldn't still be as it is, please let's stay true to our practices and breed for a reason. I particularly wouldn't say I don't breed for the financial gains like most breeders of nowadays say...I love breeding dogs and it's something fun for me but as I don't have the resources to retain and feed all puppies I breed Will you call me a fake Breeder? or because I sell my puppies to fix a large part of it back into my dogs/breeding program or will you call me a fake Breeder because I sometimes don't retain puppies from my litters?. Contributions and answers to the title of this thread would be appreciated. |

to my own little knowledge I believe a picture is not enough to rate a dog, and the dog was not even standing straight in the only picture he posted...no way you can see the angulation, top line and other points to rate a dog. kindly forgive me if I'm derailing your thread Mr Alexander |

It so happens that a friend of mine has this shepherd dog he imported for top euros, he so loves the dog that he sometimes takes owning and loving a dog too seriously that they share same bed even towel, the dog has stayed with him for about 4months and they are so into each other. The disappointment came the day he emailed the breeder of the sire of his dog in Europe in other to learn about the total care and giving the bullmastiff all it needs in other to come out a strong, wellfed and happy dog...only for the supposed breeder to tell him he actually didn't sell any of his dogs to Nigeria within the time my friends dog was born and that the pedigree paper he has his fake. This particular breeder now asked my friend hold that he'll contact the kennel association and find out what really happened. so after some days of waiting for the breeder to inform him about what's up, he became totally depressed when he was told his link to getting the dog was a fraud and he has been given totally wrong details about a puppy who might not be imported not to talk of having an untraceable lineage. After some days my friend got it all together and moved without dropping the level not his care and love towards the dog. It's so lovely how much a human can love a dog, doesn't matter the breed or if the dog has a disability.Cheers to all byte genuine dog lovers and financiers unlike those who are totally set on getting all the money and time they invested in their dogs. |

You said your dog has been staggering and falling for days. it's nice you brought this issue up as a clean dog lover that wants the best for his dogs and don't want to loose anoda lovely friend but, you should have posted it here as early as day one and get opinions and answers or could have contacted your vet. there are many things that can make your dog stagger and it being 3days I believe there's another symptom or something associated with the staggering that you can pin point and drop here sef so we all can have a better lead. I'll leave it at this end so those good with canine issues can have their say and we all learn. Hope your dog gets well.... 2 Likes |

Eva is now with us here in the kennel and doing very fine. She's very active and has a strong character...She's in no way intimidated by the size of the other dogs. We can't wait for our Remo vom fitchtenschlag granddaughter ..... |
