Your Ahmadu Bello was a typical example of a tribalist. He wasn't shy of proclaiming his dislike for the South and his Northern Superiority. Ahmadu Bello should be an example of what a Nigerian shouldn't be, but he is praised as a hero today.

I haven't seen any other Nigerian as openly tribalistic as Ahmadu Bello. He granted interviews and proudly declared his outright disdain for people from Southern Nigeria.

Please read your bible very well
Check. Proverb 23 vs 21- 31
I will write it out. Read and deduce for yourselves.

Proverbs 23 vs 20-21
"Don't associate with people who drink TOO MUCH wine and stuff themselves with food. Drunkards and gluttons will be reduced to poverty. If all you do is eat and sleep, you will soon be wearing rags.

Proverbs 23 vs 29-30
" Show me someone who drinks TOO MUCH, who has to try out some new drink, and I will show you someone miserable and sorry for himself, always causing trouble and always complaining...."

Too much of drinking is certainly condemned, just like too much eating.

Moderation in everything is essential.

When you guys quote only the section that supports your arguments without posting the writings before and after, I always wonder why.

Let's start from Leviticus 11:3
"(You may eat any animal) that has divided hoofs and that also chews the cud"
4-6: "but you must not eat camels, rock-badgers or rabbits. They must be considered unclean; they chew the cud but do not have divided hoofs.

Choosing only to quote the section on pigs is clearly deceptive and eating even rabbits was prohibited in the OLD TESTAMENT!

How can you be Christians and not understand that the old testament(Torah) is mainly for the Jews and was only attached to the New Testament to show that certain prophecies were fulfilled.

Christian=Christ like

If you prefer the old testament, please convert to Judaism.

Now listen to the words of Jesus Christ:

Mark 7: 15-16
" There is nothing that goes into a person from the outside which can make him ritually unclean. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that makes him unclean. Listen, then if you have ears!"

Also read where God revealed the same to Peter:

Acts of the Apostle 10: 12-16
"In it were all kinds of animals, reptiles, and wild birds. A voice said to him, " Get up, Peter; kill and eat!"
But Peter said, "Certainly not, Lord! I have never eaten anything ritually unclean or defiled."
The voice said to him again, "Do not consider anything unclean that God has declared clean." This happened three times and then the thing was taken back up into heaven.

This was a vision which Peter had and apart from explaining that every human no matter their sins or tribe can be accepted by God, it also highlights the same issue that nothing is considered unclean which was made by God.

I hope this was clear enough.

Learning is good, arguing for the sake of it isn't.

The Apostle Paul wrote Timothy, "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities." (1 Timothy 5:23) Many refer to this passage during their attempts to justify drinking intoxicating or alcoholic wine. But what's odd to me is that regardless of how much one intends to drink, he/she attempts to justify it by quoting what Paul told Timothy. How odd it is that they correctly quote Paul's advice, and then it is conveniently explained away, corrupted, and twisted to suit their own fleshly desires.
There are some questions for which we need answers.
1. What does the Scripture teach about alcohol consumption?

2.Can a Christian abstain, or have the right to drink alcohol (wine) if he so chooses?

3.What does GOD say about the matter?

Paul was talking to Timothy, not to people today. The conditions were such that Timothy could no longer drink water. I have been to villages were water in some places are not fit drinking because of the germs and bacteria it contains. If one drinks it, he will become sick to his stomach. This is probably what was happening to Timothy. Today, I take along medicine that the doctor gives me just in case I accidentally drink some contaminated water. In Timothy's day they had not made the medical advances we have today. Paul's suggestion to Timothy regarding the medicinal use of wine has nothing whatsoever to do with the practice of social (wine) drinking today.

Second, the wine was to be used for medicinal purposes, "For thy stomach's sake." How many people drink wine for their stomach's sake? We take medicines for our infirmities (diseases), but once the illnesses are gone, we stop taking the medicines the doctors prescribed for them. The same would be true in Timothy's case. Once the infirmity vanished, he probably ceased to take the wine as medicine, just as we would do today.
Third, LOOK at the word little.it means "small, of things with regard to size or quantity." How much medicine do we usually take when we're sick; perhaps a teaspoon or tablespoon full? Or maybe a little more? Do those of you who advocate drinking wine drink a little? And do you drink it as a remedy for some illness you have? If not, why do you drink it?

Satan got Eve to disobey God by telling her a lie and getting her to believe it. He convinced her that it was all right to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, even though God had forbidden it. Likewise, Satan convinces many today that it is all right to drink wine (other than for medicinal purposes), even though God forbids it. Notice what God said about fermented drink: "Wine is a mocker strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is NOT WISE." (Proverbs 20:1) Notice also the warning about the intoxicating effects of wine found in Proverbs 23:29-35. The passage clearly states that those who are "DECEIVED" into thinking it is all right to drink wine are "NOT WISE!" Could it be any clearer?
Since we are on the subject of deception, let's observe the marriage feast in Cana where Jesus turned water into wine, or did he turn it into booze? (John 2:1-11) Many believe, because of Satan's deception, that Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, turned water into an alcoholic beverage so the men could become drunk (immoral; Galatians 5:19-21). Do we really believe that Christ would go against His Father's teaching; that He used His miraculous power to produce about 120 gallons of intoxicating wine, which the Holy Spirit denounced as "a mocker" and as "the poison of dragons"? The burden of proving this lies with those who accuse Jesus of turning water into intoxicating wine. John said nothing about Jesus committing such an immoral act. To think that God's Son turned water into an intoxicating wine, so that men might become drunk, is not only ridiculous, it also shows ignorance of the Scriptures. Let's notice some things about the incident.
We learn that Jesus arrived on the third day of the wedding feast. In those days, a marriage feast lasted seven days, with guests arriving each day. Family friends who arrived during the seven days of festivity were served refreshments. If the family failed to provide adequately for their guests, it was considered a social disgrace, not to mention that someone might file a lawsuit against the bridegroom's family. Such a social error would never be forgotten and would haunt the newlyweds throughout their lives. That's why we hear the urgency in Mary's voice, "They have no wine." (2:3)
You wrote a long epistle without hitting the nail on the head. There is no refutation in your write up. Show clearly where drinking alcohol is declared a sin in the bible. Note that warning against its intoxicating effects when taken in excess is different from it being a sin. Also, nowhere was it mentioned that the wine at the wedding was nonalcoholic. In fact, only ignorant people would claim such because the so-called nonalcoholic wine people gulp down today is fruit juice not wine.
Another thing to add, if you eat cakes, you consume alcohol.

PrettyCrystal:
The alleged ringleader of fraudsters syndicate involved in the N4 million HIV scam, Arisekola Ademeso Owoseni (Dr. Quash) has denied collecting up to that amount from their victim. Adekola, who was said to be the CEO of MCD Filmz and Record Store in Ondo, confessed to the crime in a conversation before he absconded as a manhunt has been launched for him.

Recall the victim had earlier explained how he fell into their hand. He said he received a mobile phone line recharge pin from an unfamiliar phone number with a short note that reads “sell this recharge card for your transport fare home…” The event next to this was a call from the same line, telling him the SMS was sent to him in error and begging him to send it back to them.

Consequent upon the return of the SMS, he received another call from the line appreciating him for the good gesture. At the peak of their conversation, the old man on phone did as though he saw a vision concerning him. “He told me I am living with a deadly disease, but I said no. But when he convinced me further, I affirmed his word”, Wasiu said.

*The victim, from whom a few other members of his family have also contracted the disease, deeply fell into them before discovering himself.*

Good.

First question.

1. Was that part you quoted not in the Wikipedia article you said is not reliable?
2. The oba of Benin also appointed Chiefs and elders to run things in the empire. The Chiefs come back to give him feedback.
3. He mentioned the Benin Kingdom which was a magnificent empire then and likened to be more developed than some European cities then. So why will an Igbo man give so much praise to the Benin Kingdom since he doesn't have any correlation with it?
Since you haven't read the book, I will calmly reply you.
1. You used the Wikipedia article to conclude that Olaudah was Edo and I disagreed because he didn't state that he was Edo but Eboe.
2. In the book, he mentioned that his father was also a chief and he would have also become one if had grown up in the village. The Chiefs you say the Oba appointed, did they go to live amongst other people as indigenes and were almost all the elders chiefs appointed by the Oba? Also, from my last post, he said that the influence of the Oba was not felt by them there. If the Oba had sent his Royal Chiefs to govern them, would such chiefs not have been held in high esteem and the Oba's influence palpable?
3. The Benin Kingdom was a great kingdom no doubt. It would have been impossible for most southern tropical rain forest dwellers not to have heard of the greatness of such a kingdom. That he mentioned it at all still highlights how far reaching the popularity of the kingdom was. Again, he never mentioned he was Bini but Eboe. I am sure a citizen of such a wonderful kingdom would have been proud to declare anywhere that he is Bini.

Thanks. Atleast your response is more matured than the rest who can't stand a contrary opinion.
As for the small part of igbos that were under the Benin Empire, were the people of Onitcha not also under the Benin Empire?

The reason I ask is the stereotype response I have received in the past making it look like it was only aniomas that were under the Benin Kingdom which is not so.
"...our subjection to the king of Benin was little more than nominal; for every transaction of the government, as far as my slender observation extended, was conducted by chiefs or elders of the place. The manners and government of a people who have little commerce with other countries are generally very simple; and the history of what passes in one family or village, may serve as a specimen of the whole nation."
This should clarify things. He wrote that although the King was known and respected, his influence over them was almost nonexistent.

What is the similarity? That Olaudah mentioned the Benin empire? You claim that Olaudah was Edo but the man himself wrote in his autobiography that he was Eboe (former spelling of Ibo and currently Igbo).
The Chiefs and elders of his village were the kings he knew. Saying that they were under the Benin Empire doesn't mean they were Bini or that the Oba had any direct authority over them. It was just that the power of the Oba was widespread and all within Southern Nigeria then would have known of his majesty. It doesn't necessarily mean the whole Southern Nigeria were Binis.

Each of these were born in North, in Hausa speaking territory and they spoke fluent Hausa. If these people had been caught and sold into slavery while still young as Olaudah was, their memory of birth, environment and mode of expression would be nothing but Hausa and Hausaland. If asked about their birth and environment it would all be relative to Hausa culture, even though their true ethnicity and background is non-Hausa. Correct?

There are many Ibos today born in North and never stepped foot in Iboland and cant even speak Ibo. All they understand is Hausa. Same with Ibos born and raised in Yorubaland. Olaudah should be viewed in same fate, a man of non-Ibo origin, born and raised in Ibo culture.

Calm down, my brother. It clearly isn't. He stated there that the Benin Kingdom was the greatest kingdom in the Guinea region and that they were supposed to be subject to the King but he never saw any influence of the king in his hometown. Chiefs were the custodians of law.
There is no way a great kingdom like the Benin empire would not have been heard of from other places. The people would have been in awe of such a king. However, it doesn't necessarily mean the king had any immediate impact in their lives.
