Politics / Re: June 12 And Buhari’s Selective Recognition Of History by rusep: 9:35pm On Jun 08, 2018
Ndonu101:
While we all celebrate Moshood Abiola for his achievement ; I just want to remind everyone that June 12 was not an exclusive event that fell from the sky

Something led to June 12

This administration is choosing to engage in “Selective Historical Symbolism”

The story of June 12 1993 started in December 31 1983. If Buhari and his cronies did not truncate democracy and oust Shagari may be there will be no June 12.

So if Buhari want to reflect on our history he should start by apologising for that 1983 coup de tat.

And for our brothers in South West this move by the Presidency is not about you. It is about Buhari. He wants to gin up votes for himself in Yoruba land while also reminding us of IBB’s failaure.

The problem is Buhari has no moral right to reflect on our past history of democracy if he will not apologise for his role in 1983!

Keep having sleepless nights

Wale you are talking of honoring people. What of people who on account of defending Obasanjo were arrested and tried for coup and jailed for life. Obasanjo came out of prison, was granted pardon and was made President. He ruled for eight years and never for once think of pardoning those who went through all of that because of him. Not once did he even find it right to acknowledge their role. He rather will praise Andrew Young, Jesse Jackson, Carl Masters and co.
Let me refresh your memory a little bit. Beko Ransome Kuti was arrested, tried and jailed for life for faxing Obasanjo’s defence before the military panel to human rights organisation abroad. I collaborated with him in the process of faxing. I also took away a copy of the piece for publication in The News magazine. The fax copy was intercepted and following day Beko was arrested and his freedom taken away from him for three and a half years.

It was for running the piece in The News that Ajibade who knew nothing about it was arrested , tried and jailed.

For eight years Obasanjo was in government he never said thank you to the many innocent Nigerians who were jailed because of him. Those folks remained convicts and unpardoned
I shed tears when at Oputa Panel he came and tried to ridicule Beko’s faith or lack of it. That is Obasanjo for you. He is the only one who exist in his universe. Others are mere tools .

More From Wale

Absolutely sir. His prison mates, Col MA Ajayi and Col Gabriel Ajayi among others till date have not been honoured and their entitlements as soldiers left unpaid. While in prison, he told them if he ever survived, he would honour and uplift them. He never did.. I spoke with one of them today whose manhood was destroyed through torture and state induced violence. OBJ is vain.

OBJ does not even pick their calls. He came and ruled for 8 years and the most remarkable infrastructure we can remember him for are his private library and his private hospital.
Politics / Who Will Clip The Stinging Bees, Saraki & Dogara by rusep: 2:33pm On Jun 06, 2018
ational Assembly (NASS) is like a colony of bees led by the queen, the Senate President, flying and farting, polluting our democracy, arming gangs, and threatening to sink anyone who dares to challenge their over bloated powers. They are like the bee that hath honey in her mouth and a sting in her tail. These oversized bees specialize in stinging the poor instead of making honey for them. They live in an oversized colony and can do anything to defend their nests vigorously by stinging and pursuing threats to hive safety. They are a threat to our Democracy.

In his message to Nigerians on Democracy Day, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, urged Nigerians to “speak out with strong voices on issues that constitute a danger to the nation’s democracy.” A few days later, some of the Offa “daredevil” robbers accepted the charge by revealing that they are ‘political thugs’ sponsored by Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. If this is true (as if we don’t know the truth), then Saraki’s use of dangerously armed thugs to intimidate political opposition to “win” elections is robbery and constitutes a threat to Democracy.

If some of the gang members who confessed to being associated with Senator Saraki can be this vicious in killing 17 innocent citizens, imagine what they will do to political opponents. Nigerians “must, [therefore] preserve democracy at all costs” as Saraki rightly said, but I will add, by cutting off his overgrown wings. The overgrown wings of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representative of Nigeria (irrespective of who occupies those positions) have to be waned. Saraki and Dogara belong to the species of bees that specializes in stinging the opposition.

Paraphrasing Franklin Roosevelt, this small group of selfish men has clipped our wings in order to feather their own nest. To stop the queen of the colony of bees from flying and stinging, some beekeepers clip away part of their wings. The idea is that when the swarm of bees realizes the queen isn’t with them, it returns to the hive. Dino, Ben Bruce, Shehu Sani, Apkabio and Ekweremadu are floating around as butterflies, but they are stinging Nigerian democracy like a wild bee. Cutting their queen’s wing and sending them back to the hive will impede the growth of corruption.

When the flower blooms, the bees come uninvited. The flowers at the NASS has been blooming over the years since David Mark stabilized the unrest from members through a combination of draconian laws and oversized allowances. Members of the NASS who are too curious and poke their nose in the business of the queen of the bees, Saraki and his deputy Dogara have been stung, viciously for their curiosity. Speaker Dogara presides over the affairs of the “good for nothing” House by smiling around like a puppy being caressed by unseen hands as he flirts with members in the course of spreading official corruption

The legislative arm of the government is one of the central tenets of democracy. In addition to making laws, they check the excesses of the executive arm. But when it constitutes itself to a blackmailing tool, it becomes a threat to democracy. Instead of working for their constituents, the members of the NASS are serving their interest alone. Until will end this impunity in the NASS that has constituted itself into a stand-alone opaque government, bigger than the country, we won’t be able to achieve the progressive goals education reform, improved power generation, job creation and ending poverty

The NASS will do anything to protect their corrupt members and those that are breaking Nigerian laws.  They will launch attacks at the incompetent Nigerian Police Force; refuse to pass the budget in order to force the hands of the executive arm of government (Okonjo-Iweala is a witness); cut off “oxygen” (AKA ‘owo’) from non-compliant members; keep attacking those who dare investigate, prosecute or challenge the impunity of the Senate President; vilifies opposition and shuts down the operations of media houses that dare voice a suspicion at the leadership.

A clipping of the Saraki and Drogaa’s wings is, therefore, long overdue. What David Mark started in the Senate, Bukola Saraki has elevated to a new level. The NASS rather than checking the excesses of the Buhari led administration have constituted themselves to an autocratic republic. The lawmakers perpetrated their corrupt acts in the oversight of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. With the help of Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, the NASS leadership under Bukola Saraki and Drogba have settled themselves with phony projects worth more than one hundred and fifty Billion Naira.

It's bad enough that the executive arm of the federal government is a conduit for siphoning public funds. The anti-corruption war of the Nigerian Presidency is like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through. It is futile, therefore, to believe that the executive is capable of clipping the wings of the members of the NASS. They have always and will keep escaping through the net opened by some elements within the executive itself. Also, thanks to “Senate Rules” and “House Rules”, the corrupt setup of the NASS has in effect turned it into a massive source of siphoning public fund “legally” and unchallenged.

Finally, whether the link between Saraki and the notorious Offa robbers is substantiated by the incompetent Nigerian Police Force, or whether he is giving a “soft landing” in exchange for his loyalty, Saraki’s wing will not be waned. The flowers in APC appear to be dying, while it is blooming in SDP and ADC, as it is being watered in PDP. Very soon, the bees in the NASS led by Saraki and Dogara with abandon APC for a new hive in one of these parties. Once in a new political party, Saraki and Dogara’s colony of bees will retain the impulse to swarm and sting.

Clipping the wings of a corrupt swarm of bees is, therefore, indispensable for the national progress. Like the bumble bee, they were never meant to fly. But because our quasi-democracy is founded on “chop-I-chop” philosophy, they thrive by sharing the national wealth. The only way to permanently clip the wings of these bees is by making sure that they don’t get back to the NASS by 2019. We, therefore, need a virgin queen and fresh bees in the Nigerian Senate and not this present colony ran by over-corrupt former governors.

Everyone should have a voice in politics not because Saraki asked us to but because it is our inalienable right as citizens of Nigeria. Let us stand up, get involved in order to inject fresh influx of ideas in the Nigerian democratic experiment. We should not leave our legislative arm of government to men that have turned themselves to stinging bees. Join hands and let us take our government back.

Together, we can.

The Untold Story of ST Oredein, a Political Godfather Who Became a Robbery Kingpin.....

There was no one in Western Nigeria who did not know S. T. Oredein. If there was such a person, he must have just arrived from Planet Jupiter. Chief Samuel Taiwo Oredein was not just a politician. He was politics personified. He was a kingmaker. He was a godfather. In fact, he was the Big Boss.

Oredein belonged to the exclusive club of the seven people who partnered with Chief Obafemi Awolowo to establish the Action Group which became the party that produced the first premier of the region. You don’t know the other founders? I will tell you. They are: Abiodun Akerele, Ade Akinsanya, J. O. Adigun, S. O. Shonibare, Ayo Akinsanya, and Olatunji Dosunmu.

Founders of the Action Group
ST did not hold a cabinet position. He was however more powerful than some Ministers of government. He was the Principal Organising Secretary of the Action Group in the First Republic. It is on record that ST had legal authority to issue query to Ministers and chairmen of government’s statutory corporations. It was Chief Oredein that broke the news of Segun's death to Chief Awolowo.

As an acclaimed authority on political moblisation, he also wrote a book. He was the author of A Manual on Action Group Party Organisation. It was published in 1955.

When the news broke in 1971 of his involvement in a case of armed robbery, it was greeted with shock and unbelief. It must have been a mistake, people thought. Or could it have been a political frame-up?

Today, Onigegewura brings you the story of a political godfather who became a robbery kingpin.

On April 13, 1971, Nigerians woke up to hear the news of an armed robbery attack on Bacita Road. Bacita is a small town in Kwara State. It used to be a very popular town in the past. It is the location of Nigerian Sugar Company. When the company was established in 1964, it was the first integrated sugar factory in Nigeria. The town even has an airstrip.

The armed robbery attack was as daring as it was audacious. It was carried out with military precision. Two officers of Barclays Bank and two policemen who were in the vehicles that were attacked by the armed robbers were seriously wounded. One of the wounded persons later died of his injuries at the hospital. (And in case you are wondering what happened to the then Barclays Bank, it is the bank that became our present day Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.)

At the end of the ‘operation’, the armed robbers went away with a box containing thirteen thousand pounds. That was a lot of money in 1971. Chief Awolowo was then the Finance Minister and with his prudent management of Nigerian economy, our pound was almost at par with the British pound.

Barclays Bank Building
Mr. Kam Salem was the Inspector General of Police at the time. The Kam Salem House on Moloney Street, Obalende, Lagos is named after him. He directed all police formations across the country to fish out those behind the attack. The police spread its dragnet and within days of the robbery, Felix Dumeh, the leader of the gang was arrested. Nigerians jubilated when they heard the news.

Felix did not make any attempt to deny being the ringleader. He promised to cooperate with the police. He told his interrogators that although he was the leader of the gang, he was not the real brain behind the daring raid. Felix must have at some point in his life aspired to be a musician. He began to sing like a canary. He started to mention names.

The investigators listened in shock as Felix began to mention one name after another. He was not mentioning names of common criminals that the police officers were familiar with. The names of people he mentioned as his backers, protectors and shareholders were names of people you only read about in newspapers.

The first person he mentioned was a Chief Superintendent of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ibadan, Patrick Njovens. The interrogators opened their mouth in wonder. Felix threw another bomb when he mentioned Mr. Yesufu Bello, an Assistant Superintendent of Police also of CID, Ibadan. The third person he listed as his backer was Amusa Abidogun, a Chief Inspector of Police stationed in Ibadan.

The investigators thought they had heard everything. They didn’t know that egun nla ni o n kehin igbale. It is the biggest masquerade that is the last to come out of the grove. Then Felix spoke again. The name came out in a whisper. It was the name they were all familiar with. I have already told you that there was no one in the Western Region that did not know High Chief Oredein.

Iya Agba, my grandmother, used to tell me that when a child’s net catches a tilapia, the child eats it alone. But when the net catches a shark, the child must run to his father. The investigators knew immediately that this was not a tilapia. The fish they were looking at was nothing but a shark. They went to brief their superior.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police was Mr. Sunday Adewusi. He was later to serve as the Inspector General of Police between 1981 and 1983. Ha! You remember him? He was the IGP when Alhaji Shehu Shagari was the President.

Mr. Adewusi sent his officers to Ibadan Command to investigate the matter. On getting to Ibadan, Adewusi’s officers were arrested by the three senior police officers they were sent to arrest! You are saying “Haba!” The hunters became the hunted. The Ilorin officers were later thrown out of the station! They were warned never to come to Ibadan again.

The three senior officers however didn’t reckon with Adewusi’s tenacity. He came back and got the three of them arrested. He took them to Ilorin. He also invited Chief Oredein for a 'chat'.

Chief Oredein arrived at the Police Command in a grand style. He came to Ilorin in his Mercedes car with its unique plate number: WR 6666. He expected it to be a brief meeting. He had engagements later that day in Ibadan and he had promised to be back at his base before nightfall.

Unknown to ST, the police had done their homework thoroughly. They had painstakingly investigated the case and gathered relevant evidence and related materials before inviting the political godfather. One of the people that the police met in the course of their investigation was Mustapha Adigun who was popularly called Balewa. He got the nickname from the abbreviation of his first name, Tafa! But he was never a Prime Minister. He was also called Tafa Igiripa by some people.

Adigun claimed that Oredein was his boss during the days of politics when he (Adigun) was the head of ST’s political boys. He informed the police that in the evening of the day of the armed robbery attack, he went with his boss to the house of Felix Dumeh. In addition to his boss, the three police officers mentioned by Felix were also present. I am not sure they were wearing police uniforms for that special assignment.

Felix was said to have brought out a bottle of schnapps and some pieces of alligator pepper. He opened the bottle and poured a little quantity on the floor and also threw some alligator pepper on the floor. Like a Chief Priest, Felix then raised the bottle of the alcoholic drink and said: “this thing wey tin we dey do, God make it no let it prove.” They all chorused amen to the solemn prayers. Felix then drank out of the bottle and chewed one alligator pepper. The four of them also drank out of the bottle and chewed alligator pepper.

Oath taking and prayers completed, Felix went to bring a brown paper bag. It was the size of a carton. He gave it to Oredein. ST was about to open the carton when Amusa Abidogun, the Chief Inspector of Police snatched it from him. Abidogun passed the carton to his superior officer Njovens, with a smart police salute. You know seniority is important in the Force. It was the Chief Superintendent of Police who finally opened the paper bag. It was full of currency.

Njovens looked suspiciously at the carton, his eyes made a mental calculation of the total sum. “How much?” He asked. Felix raised his spread left palm before saying “Five.” The senior police officer shook his head. “Is that the arrangement? Before, the arrangement was seven” Felix began to fidget. “The boys are too many on it.” Well, half a loaf of bread was still bread. Five or Seven, Njovens was not one to reject money. Akosapo la n ko owo. The proper way to reject money is to put it in your pocket, as Iya Agba used to say.

Oredein was stunned when he arrived at the police headquarters to meet both Adigun and Felix. Commissioner Adewusi asked them to repeat what they told the police. They did. In the presence of Oredein, Felix confirmed Adigun’s statement that it was Oredein that first received the carton of money from him before Abidogun snatched it from him.

The former Principal Organising Secretary of the Action Group looked blankly at Felix. With a straight face and a deadpan expression, he denied knowing Felix or ever visiting his house. Njovens, Bello and Abidogun also made feeble attempts to deny knowing Felix. Later they started to beg the future IGP to assist them because it was the devil that actually used them to collect the money. “Ise asetani ni. Mo fi Anabi ati Jesu Krisiti beyin!” That was from Alhaji Amusa Abidogun, the Chief Inspector. He offered to return part of his own share.

Sample of Nigerian One Pound Note. It was introduced in 1968
Chief Oredein, the master strategist, realized that the cards were stacked against him. He checked his sleeve to see whether he had an ace he could use. He found none. It was then he reluctantly admitted that all that Adigun who was also known as Tafa Igiripa said was correct. However, the Chief denied that the money was in one-pound denomination as stated by Adigun. Adigun maintained his stand. Finally, ST nodded his head that the money was actually in one-pound denomination.

Reverse Side of Nigerian One Pound Note. It was withdrawn in 1973

It was over the radio that people heard the news. Chief Oredein had been arrested and would be arraigned in Court for armed robbery! Armed robbery! It must have been a case of mistaken identity. It could not have been the Chief S. T. Oredein that they knew. Armed robbery! Ki lo pa alaso funfun ati alaro po? What could have been the connection with the owner of a white cloth and a dyer?

In truth, Chief Oredein was not a poor man by any standard. Everybody knew he was a man of means. Ohun ti a ko mo ni a ko mo, eni ti o ba ti ri oyun oyinbo ti mo pe omo pupa ni o ma fi bi. It is a well-known fact that the product of a white woman's pregnancy would always be fair in complexion. Between 1942 and 1962, Chief Oredein had erected six buildings. And mind you, we are not talking of four-bedroom ‘boys quarters’ in a village o! We are talking of real buildings in strategic locations. Four of the houses were at Ibadan. He built one at Oshodi. The sixth building was in a prime area in Ikeja.

What of automobiles? ST had a total of nine vehicles, including cars and lorries for both his business and personal use. He was not only sagacious on the political field. He was also productive in the other room. He was blessed with more than 30 children.

Finally the day of the trial arrived. People had travelled all the way from Lagos, Ibadan and Ogere to Ilorin to confirm whether it was truly the Chief Oredein that was arrested. To the surprise of many of his supporters and friends, it was the author of the book on political organisation himself that was brought to court.

ST was arraigned alongside the three senior police officers. They were charged with abetting the commission of a robbery and of receiving stolen property as well as offence of harbouring known offenders. In other words, they were charged with receiving 5,000 pounds from the armed robbers in order to screen them from legal punishment for the offence.

It was a criminal trial like no other. It was a battle of giants. Chief Oredein and Patrick Njovens briefed Chief Rotimi Williams to appear for them. Bello and Abidogun retained the services of Mr. Richard Akinjide. The prosecution was led by the Director of Public Prosecutions for Kwara State, Mr. Anthony Ekundayo. The three senior lawyers proved their mettle.

The trial judge was a relatively young judge, having been appointed to the Bench only two years before the trial. However, what My Lord Justice Moradeyo Adesiyun lacked in age, His Lordship made up with uncommon brilliance and exemplary courage.

At the trial, Chief Oredein testified that on the day of the robbery he was at his hometown, Ogere having left Ibadan around 6.30pm on that day and only came back to Ibadan the following day. He admitted that it was true that Adewusi confronted him on May 26 with Felix Dumeh but he stated that he denied there and then the allegations of Dumeh. His principal witness was his solicitor who claimed that he was with Chief on April 13 from about 3pm to 11pm. Chief also called an Imam and a farmer as his witnesses. They all testified that he was at Ogere on the evening of April 13.

The trial was not only being conducted in the courtroom. From Ilorin to Ibadan, From Lagos to Enugu, From Port Harcourt to Ile-Ife, people were also busy conducting their own versions of the trial. Would the young judge be able to convict ST if he was found guilty? Would AG leaders allow their former colleague to go to prison for robbery?

When His Lordship adjourned the matter to December 28, 1971 for judgment, speculations began afresh. It was said that it was to enable the judge to release the accused before the end of the year. Some said that thanksgiving services had been planned to coincide with the New Year. All Nigerians waited with bated breath for the judgment day.

Finally, the day arrived. It was a Tuesday. It was three days after Christmas and three days before the New Year.

The four accused persons were brought to the Court in a Black Maria. If ST felt any apprehension, it was not apparent. As he was led to the court, Oredein gave the sign of victory to the crowd of spectators who had come from far and near to hear the verdict. It was a good sign. It was a sign of victory. His people became happy.

Hon. Justice Moradeyo Adesiyun began by reviewing the charges against the four of them. His Lordship extensively analysed and appraised the evidence. When His Lordship noted the fact that the accused were not at the scene of the crime, Oredein turned to smile at the people in the courtroom. He would soon be on his way home.

Then came the moment. His Lordship found that though the accused persons were not physically present at the scene of the armed robbery, they had prior knowledge of the robbery before it took place and that the three of them who were police officers did nothing to prevent the robbery. His Lordship also found that they all received proceeds of the robbery.

Justice Adesiyun therefore came to the conclusion that the accused persons were guilty of the charges against them.

Chief Oredein could not believe his ears. Guilty as charged? He was not going to be free? His native cap which he had been holding, in deference to the authority of the court, clattered to the floor with a thud. The High Chief from Ogere Remo stood still as if he was Opa Oranmiyan in Ile-Ife. It was Yesufu Bello who was standing beside him that nudged him back to reality. “Chief, 'they' are asking if you have anything to say.”

Oredein had not prepared any allocutus. He had not expected to be convicted. Ko si eni ti o gbe oju fifo le adiye ori aba. Who could have imagined that a mother hen would fly off from her hatchery? You don't know allocutus? It is another Latin word they taught us in Law School. It is a statement made by a defendant who has been found guilty before he is sentenced. It is like 'A beg, tamper justice with mercy' that a Lagos bus driver would tell you after breaking the side mirror of your Range Rover.

Allocutus or no allocutus, something must be said. The court had only convicted, His Lordship had not yet pronounced their sentences. Perhaps something could still be done. His eyes scanned the crowded courtroom. It appeared he was looking for someone or something. Whatever he was looking for was not in the court. He turned back to His Lordship.

Oredein pleaded for leniency. In a very moving voice, he informed the court of his past travails: “First it was the treasonable felony and conspiracy trial, but I was acquitted at the Supreme Court. Second, the Aberenla murder trial came, and I was in custody for 11 months before I was freed at Ijebu-Ode High Court. I humbly plead for Your Lordship’s forgiveness.”

Of course you know the treasonable felony trial the Chief referred to. The Aberenla trial he mentioned was the case over the murder of Ogunkoya Aberenla who was the Leader of Ogere Remo's branch of Nigerian National Democratic Party of Chief Ladoke Akintola (Not to be confused with the party of the same name established by Herbert Macaulay in 1922). Aberenla's body was never found. Onigegewura will write about his mysterious disappearance soon.

Justice Adesiyun looked at the accused persons. “If you had any conscience, you should drop your heads in shame.” His Lordship observed that they were lucky not to have been caught by the amendment to the Robbery and Firearms Decree which provided death by public execution for convicted armed robbers and those found to have aided and abetted armed robbery.

His Lordship therefore sentenced each of them to life imprisonment. There was no Federal Court of Appeal in those days. It was only Western State that had a Court of Appeal and Kwara was not part of Western State.

The four of them ran all the way to the Supreme Court.

On May 3, 1973, the Supreme Court delivered its judgment. My Lord Justice Coker who delivered the judgment of the apex court dismissed the appeal of all the convicted persons and affirmed the life sentences imposed on them by the trial court.

Chief Rotimi Williams later became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Mr. Richard Akinjide became a Chief, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and Attorney General of the Federation. Mr. Anthony Ekundayo, the DPP, was elevated to the Bench as a Justice of the High Court of Kwara State. The trial Judge, My Lord Adesiyun was also elevated. His Lordship served as the Chief Judge of Benue State from 1976 until his retirement in 1985.

History Does Not Forget! Historian is not a judge, History is.

Foreign Affairs / Amazing History Of Abraham Lincoln & John F. Kennedy by rusep: 1:51pm On Feb 27, 2018
Can any history teacher explain this ...!!!

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress 1846.

John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both their wives lost a child while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.

Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners

The successors of both Presidents are named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford."

Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford."

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the "kicker":

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

AND...................:

Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse...

Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theatre...

Politics / Re: The Different Roles That Arab & Israeli Pilots Played In Biafran War by rusep: 1:56pm On Feb 18, 2018
nku5:
The Middle Eastern Interventions in the Biafran War: Two kinds of pilots from the Middle East flew over the Biafran airspace during that war. One came to drop bombs and missiles on us and another came to drop off food and medical supplies, and occasionally arms to help us defend ourselves. Egyptian pilots were loaned to Nigeria by Nasser's regime to fly Soviet MIGs for the Nigerian Air Force. It must have been one of the choicest plum jobs for the battle hardened Egyptians. After having been totally beaten by the Israeli air force in Six- Day War, and left short of jets to fly, a campaign of dropping bombs on undefended civilian centres - markets, hospitals, refugee camps, and town squares was a piece of cake!

And shooting down and chasing away relief aid bearing planes was the icing on the cake. On the other hand, there were Israeli pilots that flew to Biafra, not to drop bombs or delivery death but to drop off food and medical supplies. They were part of an
international band brothers in the air, young men who
risked their lives to bring in aid to the embattled
Biafrans. One of those pilots was a man called Abi
Nathan, a former Israeli Air Force pilot and later peace
activist. Another was a Arnon Barak, whose story is
referenced in the short article linked here. Survivors of
human inflicted tragedies usually say, "Never Forget"; that never forget should also include those that came to them, not to hurt or harm but to help and heal.

https://unitedwithisrael.org/biafran-airlift-israels-secret-mission-to-save-lives/#.WlteiSfVOFI.facebook

In 1968, thanks to the relatively recent invention of broadcast television, the world was horrified by images of young Biafran children starving en masse during the Nigerian civil war. The international call to action was overwhelming. U.S. President Lyndon Johnson told the State Department, “Get those…babies off my TV set.” As the largest non-combatant airlift in history, the Biafran operation is estimated to have saved over one million lives. What most of the world does not know is that Israeli pilots and ground crews played a critical role in this historic airlift.

Prevented by the Nigerian army from officially providing aid, the International Red Cross began a covert mission to save the people of Biafra called Operation Relief Action Nigeria. Shortly thereafter, the Red Cross realized that their DC-6 and DC-7 airplanes did not have the capacity to deliver the necessary amount of food and medicine. The Red Cross unofficially obtained five Boeing C-97s from the U.S., the largest plane in the United States Air Force.

With the exception of the U.S., Israel was the only country with the pilots, ground crews, and experience to fly and land the giant C-97 Stratofreighters. In 1968, Israeli pilot Arnon Barak was summoned to his manager’s office at Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI). There he was told, “There is a massive genocide in Biafra. We were called up by Balair, the Swiss airline that asked IAI to help their maintenance crew to take over the ‘big monster,’ the C-97 Stratofreighter. The Red Cross is supplying food and medicine to the besieged people in Biafra.”

C-97_stratofreighter_041116-F-9999R-002In February 1969, IAI crews began preparing planes for the operation, with flights beginning in March. According to Barak, the first Biafra-bound cargo flight to Africa was considered “a key flight to decide ‘go-no go’ for the whole fleet of C-97 aircraft. Unfortunately, engine failure occurred during flight and the aircraft was forced to land in the Sahara Desert at Niamey airport in Niger, Africa. A second aircraft was flown with a spare engine to rescue the first aircraft and we were the four technicians on board. It was the most horrendous time I can remember. A few of us contracted malaria and the work was done only at night due to the hot weather.” The crew did not give up and the first flight eventually succeeded.

Only one dirt road in Biafra was long enough to handle the C-97s. It was in a town called Uli, and the makeshift runway was codenamed “Airstrip Annabelle.” The Nigerian army had smart weapons, tanks, and Mig 29s and Israeli pilots had to fly and land the C-97s at night under enemy fire.

Each flight brought 16 tons of food, with the international airlift effort turning Uli into the second busiest airport in Africa after Johannesburg. Historian Mark Curtis reported that an average of 250 metric tons of food was delivered each night to the estimated 1.5 to 2 million people that depended on relief supplies.

Remembering the participants that made the Biafran airlift a success, Barak commented, “All of us can be proud of what we did for the starving people of Biafra, bringing [food and medical supplies] night after night under ugly circumstances.”

What is the Reason for having Saturday and Sunday as public Holiday?
What is the reason for having cross as hospital sign in a secular state?

I wonder what could have been said if the "mysterious" plane crash that took the life of Kaduna State Governor, late Patrick Yakowa and Gen Andrew Azazi happened during Buhari's administration!

I wonder what could have been said on media or street if the 47 hefty Biafran men who were brutally killed from a prison and dumped in to Ozu River in 2013 had happened during Buhari's led government!

I wonder what could be said if assuming the 560 people killed in Kano Central Mosque during Friday prayers in 2014 were to be a Church, and it happened during Buhari's led administration!

I wonder what could have been said if Ayo Orisejafor were Sultan of Sokoto whose private Jet was apprehended and grounded in South Africa for arms smuggling happened during Buhari's administration!

I wonder what could have been said if a plane stashed with thousand weapons and heavy explosive devices that was found in Kano airport in 2014 happened during Buhari's led government!

What could have been said if the 17 local governments captured and controlled by "Boko Haram" where Emir of Gwoza was ambushed and killed by the terrorists because Maiduguri airport was closed......imagine if this could happen during Buhari's government!

These are few incidents that my brain vividly tickled as I writes. All these were not national issues and concerns because they happened to somewhere, to some people and by somebody.......

Now what is this noise all about?
I got it, because Buhari is the President, and the hypocrites and enemies of Nigeria have taken over the media to spread message of hate & stereotype against Buhari & his government, but God Willing, they would all fail.

Politics / How Buhari Will Islamised Nigeria by rusep: 9:12pm On Jan 17, 2018
Festus Keyamo writes...

"Buhari as a Military Head of State with a Muslim Vice when he ruled by decree didn't Islamize Nigeria, it's now that such decision must get the nod of our legislators at both state and federal levels that some Nigerians including the so called educated people are believing.

Like I've always said, the bane to Nigeria's development in our generation may not be corruption but gullibility. It's a time bomb waiting to explode.

We Christians are always jittering. Always feeling inferior to people of other faiths. When will Muslim accuse us of Christianizing Nigeria? When? In the current democratic dispensation, out of 18 years, we have had Christian Presidents for 14 years. Obasanjo did 8 years while Jonathan 6 years. When did Muslim accused anybody of wanting to Christianize Nigeria?"

N.B: Some of us will continue to say the truth no matter the foretold consequences. I am a Christian and I have told you that Daniel served under Nebucchadnazzar, an idol worshipper. He was actually the Chairman of the Babylonian Governors' Forum. Joseph served under Pharao who didn't believe in Joseph's Jehovah. Joseph was the Prime Minister. Read your Bible.

Put a stop to your self imposed hypocrisy and move on with your life. God did not make a mistake by bringing us together in the same country. All we need is mutual trust and respect.
Muhammadu Buhari is the man God has appointed to be the president now, cooperate with him and pray for his success- our success-your success.

By May 29, barely three months from now, the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration will be three year old, leaving one year before the expiration of his government. With the presidential election already fixed for February 18th, 2019, its given that by the second half of this year, governance (though there hasnt really been any) will shut down for 'politicking'.
Hence, we urge you to name your state and list a project wholly initiated and completed in your state in almost three years.

Must Buhari initiated and completed a project? Please let us encourage present and subsequent government to finished the projects they met on ground, if you start measuring performance based on initiated then each govt. that comes in will abandon the projects of the preceding govts.

Before you read this, can you please first lock up your ethnic, religious and political biases somewhere?

In this country, we shout and lash out just because we see others do so. We don't seek to find out deeper about issues. Now let's do some research and knowledge seeking about this aching drift called the herdsmen's menace.

When you finish reading this, you can go on and google it per adventure I just lied to you. Thanks.

Are you aware there has been series of interventions and research in respect of the herdsmen's grazing issue? A lot of studies by diffeerent agencies have proffered different solutions over the years.

When it is stated that the problem predates this present regime, don't get cranky, find out how far behind and what has been the intervention. It's only the uneducated that get worked up by a single narrative. The problem even predates the Jonathan government but in fairness to former president Jonathan, he was more proactive in finding a lasting solution to the incessant herdsmen/farmer's clashes and bloodbath.

But because a President alone can't govern a nation, every effort of Jonathan was messed up by guess who? State governors. It would interest you that these governors mostly belong to the same politcal party with him. The effort of Jonathan to finding a permanent solution to this problem was what prompted the Miyette Allah group to appoint him as their Patron. They saw the amount of work Jonathan put into finding a lasting solution to this age long conflict.

Failure to implement that robust solution is what has led to what we are presently witnessing.

President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014 inaugurated an Inter-ministerial technical committee on grazing reserves, tasked with proposing strategies for ending the herdsmen crisis.

Gabriel Suswan (PDP), former Governor of Benue state (Benue has always been the hot spot hence the choice of Suswan) was appointed by GEJ to head the political committee on Grazing Reserves. The committee got to work and the final report recommended recovery of all grazing routes encroached upon by farmers and recommended that CBN be mandated to release N100 billion to the 36 states for construction of ranches.

The National Economic Council, NEC under President Jonathan approved this recommendation and thereafter the Central Bank actually released the N100 billion.

Did you read that? N100 billion was released. I guess you are wondering just like I did, to whom was the money released?

Of course, the State Governors took the money but none of them constructed the ranches. I did not say they pocketed it o! But, it is a fact that none of them utilise the money for the purpose it was meant for.

Consequently, the House of Reps set up a committee to investigate reports that the funds have been looted by the governors and report within 4 weeks to the house in plenary. Okay, as I type this, the report is still been awaited...dont ask me why... I am as clueless as you about that too.

The current Buhari government thereafter followed up on the earlier ranching plan formulated by the Jonathan government (which N100 billion was released to the governors for) and in 2016 presented a plan to the Nigeria Governors forum (under Buhari regime) to map grazing areas in all states as a temporary solution to the herdsmen crisis, but most central and southern states opposed the plan.

Now, we are where we are today. See, it does not matter who's president, if we don't make this political leaders at all levels act accordingly we are in for a long ride...

Meanwhile, 90% of the governors who took and shared that N100 billion are walking free all over the place. That's how easy it is to get money out of our treasury and some people will pocket it without using it for what's meant for, yet nobody is asking any question.

Now, is it Jonathan that caused that? The man wanted to stop the killings and he tried to find a solution but people within his own political enclave collected the money and pocketed it.

It does not matter if Buhari continue as President or not, sooner than later he would head back home to Daura just like Jonathan headed back to Otuoke but our problems will still remain with us. If we don't come together and place a demand on all this rogues to do the needful instead of fighting each other on SM, I can assure you that problems don't go just because you blame someone for causing it.

That Tambuwal led House of Rep probe on the N100 billion? Are you asking me? Haba! Go figure.

HOW DO YOU FIX AN ECONOMY THAT IMPORTS EVERYTHING FROM TOOTHPICK TO TOILET PAPER, AND MAKES NOTHING? AN ECONOMY THAT HAS FOR YEARS AND EVEN DECADES HAD ONLY ONE CURRENCY, _CORRUPTION_.

HOW DOES A GOOD MAN GOVERN A COUNTRY THAT HAS MORE PLACES OF WORSHIP THAN FARM LANDS OR FACTORIES, AND EVERYONE SEES CORRUPTION AS MEANS TO GOD'S BLESSING.

A COUNTRY WHERE GETTING RICH FROM PRAYER AND NOT WORK IS A DAILY SPIRITUAL DIET, AND MEN OF GOD OPENLY FRATERNIZE WITH CERTIFIED AND INDICTED THIEVES AND DROLL OVER THEIR LOOT.

A COUNTRY WHERE HARD WORK IS DERIDED AND EVERYONE SEEKS WEALTH AT ALL COST.

A COUNTRY WHERE POLITICIANS HAVE NO IDEOLOGY, AND POLITICS A COMPETITION BETWEEN TWO THIEVING PARTIES THAT ARE ONLY UNIFIED BY THEIR COMPETITION FOR THE COUNTRY'S RESOURCES .

HOW DOES A GOOD MAN GOVERN NIGERIA WHEN EVERYONE HE SEES AROUND CANNOT WAIT TO GET RID OF HIM SO THEY CAN START STEALING, AND THEY ALL SEE HIM AS THE STUMBLING BLOCK TO THEIR DESIRE TO LOOT THE TREASURY.
