Gambia’s former president, Yahya Jammeh will now leave Banjul on Saturday with President Alpha Conde of Guinea, to begin a new life in exile. This followed Friday’s final peace move by Conde and Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. The two West African leaders traveled to Banjul to persuade the long-ruling Jammeh to leave peacefully before West African forces pounced on him. In a statement issued on state TV Friday night, Jammeh announced that he was stepping down, a superfluous announcement as he was already no more the leader, having been denied recognition by the world. All indications are that Jammeh will be going into exile in Guinea. A senior adviser to new President Adama Barrow said talks to finalize the exile deal were holding up his exit. “I can assure you that he has agreed to leave,” Mai Ahmad Fatty, Barrow’s special advisor, told Reuters in Senegal’s capital Dakar. He could not say where Jammeh would go into exile. President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow had earlier confirmed Yahya Jammeh’s stepping down. Barrow, on his Twitter handle on Friday, @adama_barrow said: “I would like to inform you that Yahya Jammeh has agreed to step down. “He is scheduled to depart Gambia today. #NewGambia.” Barrow on Thursday took the oath of office as Gambia’s new president. He was sworn-in about 5 p.m. Senegalese time at the Gambian High Commission in Dakar, Senegal. Barrow succeeded Yahya Jammeh, who lost in the Dec. 1 presidential election and refused to vacate office when his term expired midnight on Thursday. Gambia’s Chief of Defence, Ousman Badjie, on Friday pledged loyalty to President Barrow. “West African troops that crossed from neighboring Senegal into Gambia to help unseat Jammeh would be welcomed “with a cup of tea,’’ said Badjie. ECOWAS armies halted Operation Restore Democracy aimed at installing the country’s new president, Adama Barrow, on Thursday so regional leaders could make one last attempt to convince long-time ruler Yahya Jammeh to step aside. In Dakar, the Nigerian force Commander, Operation Restore Democracy, Air Commodore Tajudeen Yusuf, said the ECOWAS forces would not let down their guard, in spite of negotiations for the former Gambian president, Alhaji Yahaya Jammeh to leave office. He said the troops are awaiting briefing by the political leaders. Yusuf made the statement while briefing journalists in Dakar, on Friday. “Even if he quits we are not letting down our guard, our mandate is to restore peace in Gambia. “We have been on standby, and the troops are still on a very high alert, depending on the outcome of political negotiations. “We are not letting down our guard; our mandate is to restore democracy in Gambia,’’ Yusuf said. Gambian President-elect Adama Barrow was sworn in as president in Dakar, Senegal on Thursday, BBC reports. Mr. Barrow took his oath of office at the Gambian embassy in the Senegalese capital city. While the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have recognized Mr. Barrow as the Gambian president, the defeated incumbent Yahya Jammeh has refused to step down. Mr. Barrow defeated Mr. Jammeh in the presidential election on December 1, 2016. The longtime Gambian ruler initially conceded defeat but reversed course a week later and has since refused to hand over power. West African leaders under the aegis of ECOWAS, including Liberian President and ECOWAS Chairperson Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, have attempted to convince Mr. Jammeh to accept the results of the election and allow Mr. Barrow to begin his term peacefully, but their efforts have thus far been in vain. ECOWAS subsequently threatened to remove Mr. Jammeh by force if he refused to honor the will of the Gambian people, but the Gambian autocrat maintained that he would remain in power until the Gambian Supreme Court ruled on his appeal contesting the election results. Making good on its promise, ECOWAS mobilized troops, consisting of Senegalese and Nigerian nationals, at the Senegal-Gambia border on Wednesday. The regional military force said it is prepared to oust Mr. Jammeh. Source |

The Gambian parliament today, extended President Yahya Jammeh's term by just three months , just a day before President-elect Adama Barrow is scheduled to be inaugurated. The Parliament also approved of Mr. Jammeh's 90-day state of emergency that he declared on Tuesday. Meanwhile, regional West African militaries are prepared to intervene militarily to remove Mr. Jammeh by force if he refuses to hand over power to the democratically-elected Adama Barrow, who defeated Mr. Jammeh in the December 1, 2016 presidential contest, on Thursday. A Nigerian warship was deployed to the coast of The Gambia on Tuesday in preparation for a military operation, while Nigerian troops arrived at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) military base in Senegal on Wednesday morning. BBC reports that Ghana and Senegal will also contribute troops to the regional force. Nigerian Chief of Air Staff Sadique Abubakar disclosed to Punch Newspaper that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) would contribute fighter jets to the regional force. In anticipation of military action, Gambians and tourists have fled the country en masse. Reuters reports that some 26,000 Gambians have fled the country and taken refuge in neighboring Senegal. European tourists in The Gambia have begun to end their vacations early and embark home, on the advice of their respective governments. Roughly 1000 British tourists alone were evacuated from the small West African country on Wednesday. |

Many participants woke up this morning to see that their Get Help (GH) orders have been removed completely from their PO’s Dashboard. Though some people called it canceled but the truth of the matter is that it was only removed not canceled. Please note that the GH orders were not cancelled because if cancelled, you will see it at the right hand side as deleted. It was removed because of the following reasons: There is an ongoing upgrade because programmers are always working on the MMM system every day so the promised New Model can be unveiled as soon as possible. You might notice earlier this morning, the login Captcha was showing alphanumeric as against the numbers until it restored to numbers later today. Why is the upgrade taking so long? Why not shut down the website and finish the upgrade once and for all? Have you thought of the unprecedented panic it will cause if MMM Nigeria Personal Office website is shut down for 1hour? Again, www.mmmoffice.com is not only for Nigeria, it is being used by MMM in other countries too. Moreos, many participants have formed the habit of cancelling their GH orders and creating new GH orders hoping they will be matched earlier. There is no need for that anyway but to forestall that, the created GH orders were removed and that is why you can't create new GH orders because the old GH orders have not been cancelled but removed and withdrawal is still pending. There is no cause for any alarm over the removed GH orders, if you check your Mavro, you will notice the value of the removed GH order has been restored and had also increased though it is still showing pending withdrawal. Incase you missed these tweets from @MMMNigeriaHelp earlier: 1. There have been reports of "removed GH orders" in some POs. The removed GH orders are mostly GH orders created on Friday/Saturday. 2. There is no cause for any alarm. The value of the removed GH order has been restored and increased though showing pending withdrawal. 3. The removal of the GH orders and other changes/errors you might notice are indications that the #NewModel is taking shape gradually. 4. Tuesday (Mavro growing day), a lot of participants created GH orders thus the message “GH amount exceeds allowed daily maximum”. 5. Please await further instructions either to create a new GH order or if it will be automatically restored and matched. 6. We crave your indulgence, patience & understanding at this period. We are doing our best to have these issues/upgrades resolved ASAP. Let’s be patient while the Administrators of MMM do their best to restore the confidence we have in the system. ***Found it through their twitter handle*** |
