Avram Grant, Big Phil, Guus Hiddink & now Carlo Ancellotti. . . . . . . .  notice a trend in life after JM, all these guys have come with their individual styles & footie principles; all recorded good results at the initial stages of their reigns & towards the tail end faltered (*except GH - he didn't stick around long enuf*). . . . . . . why huh

I think what y'all should be looking into is those set of players y'all have got!?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread by RuuDie(m): 11:14am On Dec 27, 2009
MUFC Players of the Decade: #6

Van Nistelrooy's goals tally and strike-rate for United were astonishing: more than 100 goals in his first three seasons, the Reds’ all-time top European scorer in his fourth term, and 150 strikes in fewer than 200 starts overall.

Named PFA Players' and Fans' Player of the Year in his first season, Ruud was the kind of prolific frontman not seen at Old Trafford since Denis Law. He was a bona fide poacher: if the ball fell to him in the box, it invariably ended up buried in the opposition net.

Not that the Dutchman was incapable of the odd spectacular goal – think solo effort against Fulham in 2003 and crashing volley at Charlton two years later.

Had Ruud not left for Real Madrid in 2006, he may well have gone on to eclipse Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time United top scorer mark of 249.

It was reassuring to have a player who guaranteed us 25 goals a season. In a relatively lean spell for United, it made the task of winning trophies just that bit easier.
I still miss this fella. . .

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Liverpool 2 Vs 0 Wolves - Dec 26, 1830hrs by RuuDie(op): 5:44am On Dec 27, 2009
L'pool really needed the win but up until the 60th min, it was looking like a real mountain. The red card to the hull player really helped.

I still feel that inspite of the losses, Rafa and his Reds can still make up a lot of ground on the current top-5 teams as long as they can put together a consistent string of wins in between these lost games.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Liverpool 2 Vs 0 Wolves - Dec 26, 1830hrs by RuuDie(op): 6:16pm On Dec 26, 2009
Rafa's reds hope to bounce back from an embarrassing defeat at Pompey and can move up to 6th place on the table if they win tonight - just five points away from the teams occupying the champs ligue spots.
Wolves are striving to avoid being dragged deep into the relegation squabble and will want to build on their crucial win over Burnley in the last but the odds are not really in their favor. Mick will no doubt field his strongest possible side tonight with a view to getting something from L'pool who have been uncharacteristically generous in dropping points this season.
With Rafa having the complement of a full squad, L'pool are expected to take all 3pts and the onus is on them to but with happenings over the past week. . . . an upset is not entirely off the cards!

Goran Pandev of Lazio is a good striker on the market now. . . . his contract with Lazio has just been cancelled by serie-A commission, so he can now go wherever on a free.

@ruudie true
bt wat hpns if SAF s left wif makeshift players
hmmn
even if berbatov & rooney are going to play at the back, make it a string of 4 so there'll always be a covering player for another. against fulham the defence was all at sea. . . . the back 3 couldn't spread out and stop the fulham wingers/wingbacks; the midfielders in front of the defence were not dropping back to cover the flanks. . . . . it was such an uncomfy formation, i don't think the players quite understood it themselves!

true. . . . wouldn't be very hard to beat hull; important thing is to field a stable team, get the balance spot on all thru - no room for suicidal experimentations like in fulham last week!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Pep Guadiola Vs Frank Rijkaard by RuuDie(m): 11:47am On Dec 26, 2009
Pep might have much more success but i'll say Rijkaard on the account of experience - he's seen highs and the lows; and felt the heat of real pressure managers face. . . . plus he's dutch and the philosophy of playing good, attack-minded footie as a strong cohesive unit is a tradition where he's from; they are practically weaned on it!

In truth, Pep is just playing Frank's system with a slightly different personnel.

as long as play a flat back-4, Carrick/Fletcher in the absence of the regulars, we can hold out and keep a clean sheet - hope SAF gets his mind right and not try any sen're're moves like he did at Craven Cottage!

Javier Saviola is 1 who seems to be picking up again -- he'd make a useful striking addition for any squad!
