Guy the police did not just jump into the matter uninvited, read the post again, the parents of the girl used the police to arrest the guy because they did not give consent to they marriage hence they believed their child was HYPNOTIZED believed she was in danger, so they called the police, for all I can say their is more to this story. Highest an African will do is say we count us out of your life since you decide to marry without us but ones they involve the police be rest assure their is more and everyone tries to protect what they love. The guy needs to be watched. If Na guy report say him parents arrest him wife say them believe say she hypnotize am to marry her una for all they shout here say African women with their desperation for marriage, go and bail her out and run for your life. Better still some will say live the gold digger their and run for your life, shabi your family Don tell you say she be witch.

Very compelling and sensible points... For me, the bane of the whole issue is why arrest the guy and lock him up? Did he threaten or fight this people?

What 'sane' parents will do is approach the boys family and convince them that this union won't make sense... Involve religious or other influential people to make their case. Did this family here do that? Obviously they felt they couldn't stoop so low, even if na dangote dem be sef...hian!

As we have seen time and time again, our Nigerian men are not worth going to this length for marriage. I hope she does not regret in the future. A man that will support marrying without her parents consent is not someone a woman should have confidence in. it has been proven over and over. A woman should not take such steps. A man can, but not a woman. A lot of men abuse women who have no family backing. They are even mocked in fights. I have witnessed this before. It is very risky for a woman to do this. Very. Ask your friend if someone he doesn't approve of wants to marry his daughter will he be happy? Karma will surely catch up with him. We are thought to honor our parents, he should seek the consent of the girl's parents not act so shamefully when he is not a kid.

Ask yourself (or whoever else you consult) if that girl was FORCED, ABDUCTED or HYPNOTIZED... and while you are at it, ask yourself why she is also out there FIGHTING against her parents.
By the way, what is SHAMEFUL about what he did? If he was hiding in the dark, taking money, fvcking the heck out of and basically just taking advantage of her; una go complain... he comes out boldly to put a ring on it, una still dey complain... People, na wa o!

I am very sure there is what they call bail when someone is being detained. By the way if the guy has respect, regards and value for his family ( parents) or siblings if they are alive and actually support his marriage to this girl after her parents have said no, They will be the one looking for ways to bail him out and give him opportunity to fight for this his do or die marathon he is taking. Obviously he does not respect his parents if not he will know that it is a suicide mission in Africa to marry a woman when her parents say no, I mean who brought him up?. this guy obviously has an agenda. My point is no one is saying don't marry but when you ignore the very people that natured you, believed in you, provide for you and invested in you to become who you are before you started marking your own decisions you might end up alone on the other side of the divide when the quake of marriage comes, 99% of marriages go through a stage of marital quick the rate of survival depends on the foundation of the marriage and it's support system...which the young man and women are obviously ignoring a brike called the parents. These parents did not illegally detain the man that want to marry without the consent of the people that gave birth to the very being he wants to marry. They believed their child was hyponized into getting married without their consent and that is enough reason to arrest him until proven otherwise. He was not kidnapped by tugs hired by the parents, he was arrested, the guy should prove that he did not hypnotize their daughter and that she married him with clear mental state, period.

I feel the parents pain. Some girls choice can be shocking. The parents will pay so much money to educate them. Then one jobless tout or area boy with big blokus will come and confuse and most likely derail their lives in future once the girl has helped them up.
