Pastorjohn2:I wish you great success Doc. Viva isn't a child's play. It's a matter of luck or grace as you'll call it. For anatomy, I was asked the histology of vajay For biochem, I was asked reactive oxygen species and for Physiology I was asked post prandial somnolence.Incase you've not seen this already, I talked about my own experience and the questions I was asked. SF123:It all boils down to personal preference. There is no outright pro or con because it depends on one's personality and study technique. For someone like me who is a slow reader, it's a waste of time. I'll rather engage in group discussions on the night or morning of exams when I've done my own homework. ![]() |
NL1960:Congratulations. it's a great course. ![]() |
Hello Medics, incase you want to start a YouTube channel and you're not sure of what you need to get or buy, this will help you. I listed and explained everything you need to get or buy to be able to start a YouTube channel. ![]() I also added a note on the cheap data plan I use. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XnKSsjKuBY?si=gEpuFlh37N6w9Jvh |

NL1960:Any Medical course will be good. If she is 100% sure that its MBBS she wants, any 4 year course would do. (E.g Anatomy, Physiology, etc) But if she's not so sure that it's MBBS she wants, Biko let her go for a 5 year professional medical course instead.(E.g Nursing, Pharmacy, etc) And yes, she can choose same UNIBEN. There won't be any issue if it's same school. |
Johnboom: |
NL1960:(1) should be a great option of course As for (2), I have no idea how it works in UNIBEN or if it's advisable. My concern is (3). With the way Nigeria is unstable, I won't advice it at all. Strikes are the order of the day. Medical school is no longer 6 years in most federal universities. It's now a minimum of 7yrs to a standard of 8yrs. 2021 made it 10 years since I started 100L in my first degree and as of now, I'm still in 400L. (Bear it in mind that immediately after my first degree I went for NYSC and immediately after NYSC, I started the MBBS degree). This option (3) should be a LAST LAST option. It should be considered IF and only IF all options have been explored and it's still not working out. It is a HUGE & UNNECESSARY waste of time if there are other options. If money isn't an issue, I'll advice that she accepts whatever medical course she gets, instead of sitting at home. Then try switching in 200L and try another JAMB next year. Alternatively, she could try the A'Level route (IJMB) if UNIBEN has something like that. Here, if she gets a particular cut off point, she'll get direct entry admission into 200L MBBS class. |
Clinton39:Walking into 200L is like walking into another world. My advice will be to: - get married to past questions - find out from your seniors, what textbooks your lecturers use - study during the holiday - get a mentor - utilise YouTube study videos - and of course, don't miss practical attendance!. Incase you want more, I've dropped 35 pieces of advice for 200L medics, if you've not seen it, please do. It will help you. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvNNGto9P-QMpivVhlej_a-cyGbjd-Pdq&si=6Y8El6UI-Egp4bPM |

Cocopopsss:Hello Cocopops, repeating because of 0.05 mark is very saddening. I can imagine that you're disappointed in yourself and in the nigerian Medical school system as a whole. Please don't give up. I can't even tell you to find out what went wrong because you were this close to getting the 50%. What I'll say is that you could get a survival mechanism. It could be staying off the social media of your former colleagues, it could be anything. Try to stay away from anything that will trigger your sadness. Then pick yourself up and give it another try, however with a change in study strategy. [This is coming from someone who used to have 30's-40's (E's-F's) in a particular course in my first degree, but yet got a distinction in that same course in my second degree]. It will be hard at first, especially if you're an emotional person. But give it time. Remember to stay away from social media triggers if possible. I wish you all the best. In several years time, you'll look back and tell the story to someone who's hurting like you did several years back. I'm able to talk to you about this because I was in your shoes 10-11years ago (as a 200L Ana student). BTW if perhaps you're interested and you've not seen this, it could help. I spoke based on my experience. What to do when your results do not reflect the efforts you've put into studying. How to change that situation. spiritualmubi:Hello, I used same method for WAEC and JAMB biology (which included plant biology). It should help you too. You'll never know until you try it. I wish you great success!! ![]() |
SF123:Hi dear, I would advise against doing that. Please stick to what you get from your seniors. Different schools have their way of teaching, course content, method of grading, etc. Your seniors would give you what you need. That would prevent you from wasting your time in studying what's not necessary. |

tunmexx:Actually, it's a flexible something. You can do intensive studying at anytime. But for me, intensive studying comes when exam timetable comes out. That time adrenaline is at work. I'm already used to the terms & I'm familiar with the words, diagrams & everything (after using fast reading technique 3 times already). Intensive studying + exam timetable fear = sweet studying + swift understanding. ![]() |
tunmexx:Hello Tunmex, As a graduate of Anatomy and a 4th Year Medic gearing up for 5th Year soon, I really can't speak for everyone. But based on my experience, using this your method will make revision for exams easy for you as you'll have a comprehensive note to fall back to..,,,, the downside of this is that it can make you to be very slow. You may end up not completing the course outline even once. My suggestion is to study like as if you're meeting a potential "girlfriend". You go on "dates" with her just to get to know her better. The more dates you go with her, the more familiar you both become. When you eventually ask her to be your girlfriend, there is a high chance of receiving a huge YES. SAME thing applies to whatever I'm studying. I go on "dates" by using a fast study technique to study that material several times. All 3 times I'm studying, the aim isn't to understand, but to get familiar with the diagrams, the terms, the strange words. This will help you to have a mental picture of the whole material. By the time exam timetable is out, with the help of adrenaline, understanding will be made wayyyy easier if you're already familiar with the terms, diagrams and strange words. Study anatomy with atlas. Use YouTube as well. I've uploaded comprehensive videos that will help you if you're interested in a deep explanation of all this. How to increase your study speed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuAweFNvnlY?si=Aht1fQLzrtjVeokl How I study a material and learn a diagram without ever penning it down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK3K9bgUW8A?si=yHck1U290c0pxklx My memory strategy: PART 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9LTyNxaTWg?si=pfWGF1vMUNZpPGMx PART 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpXOL5bi1Ys?si=grglLHIOcCB9Udxf How to answer questions in exam: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvNNGto9P-QNtb_5AHQ0ohPWWEh09Bn3Q&si=371KaAq9zkGNX02k In summary, Medical school doesn't have only one formula. Try out several methods, ask other medics how they do their studying. Stick to what is working for you. Once you find out it's not working, don't waste time,,,, switch to another strategy IMMEDIATELY! |
Emma2Seconds:"PDF drive" and "Z library". PDF drive is a website and Zlib is an app. |
I hear people brag about the number of hours they study in a day. It's a valid topic for argument & discussion. In this 2min video, I talked about what I think about this and the number of hours I study in a day. How many hours should a medic study in a day?? Is it necessary to pay attention to the number of hours?? Let's find out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-T0i79kJ28?si=mc_2plaN9JS9ZpcJ |
Waramiedema63:Wow... First time I'm hearing about such. Is this possible at all? ![]() |
Some medics are night readers, some are day readers,,, sleep is too important for them. ![]() In this 2-minute video, I talked about my preference based on my situation. Oova:Your MSA may have a link that contains lecture materials and textbooks pertaining to your school.CMDA too may have something like that. I'll suggest you find out from the MSA &/or CMDA leaders of your school. They will know better. PS: if you choose to use unconventional methods to get what you want, Zlib will help. Search for the apk on telegram and download it. It could have the textbook you need. Or, a simple google search may help. I wasn't lucky enough to have materials handed over to me. I searched for them myself. |
SF123:Interesting observation. I think it boils down towards personality,,, not the fact that they are medics. Some people are just private in nature. ![]() |
wizi44:Congratulations on getting to Preclinicals!! Based on my experience, For gross anatomy, I prefer Chaurasia For Embryology, I prefer Langman For Histology, I prefer JP gunman For Physiology, I prefer Jaypee Essentials For Biochemistry, I prefer Satyanarayana Incase you need indepth review of each textbook, you can watch here: Best textbooks for Preclinicals: For Anatomy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht4__hKkNQM For Physiology & Biochemistry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stXQ7lnokvM In summary, I'll advice you to get the softcopy of the textbooks and flip through and be sure you can understand it, before buying. Also, ask your seniors for the textbooks your lecturers are using.... It's safer to go for that one (esp for mcq/obj sake). ![]() |
Wondering if it's possible to learn a diagram without drawing it in a book several times? This is how I do it. Lordsagna:Hello Lordsagna, thank you for the suggestion! This video may help! I talked about how I combine medical school with extracurricular activities like being a wife, daughter, big sister, in addition to being a consistent YouTuber, consistent volunteer, virtual assistant (upwork), while still being a leader & participant in several organisations like NiMSA, FAMSA, IFMSA, MWAN YDF, GOWME, GHWN, TJN-ECG, etc but was still able to get a distinction in my last professional exams by God's grace. In these videos I talked about how I do it. PART 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V3g6X7PTj4 PART 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CdKg5jXSqE |
spiritualmubi:I wrote JAMB in my final year too(2014/2015). Things may have changed now but the strategy I used in my time was studying 4 different textbooks each of Physics, Chem & Bio and chewing JAMB past questions afterwards. It took months of preparation though. |

Entrepreneurrr:please ask your seniors and/or lecturers. They will know how things are done in your school. But for my school, you are to write T or F beside EVERY option. For example, this one you've asked, (All the following are English alphabets EXCEPT) if it were in exam hall in my School, I'll write something like: F a. A F b. B T c. 1 F d. D T e. 2 What that means is that I read the Question and write a T where that option is a correct answer to that question and an F where that option isn't the correct answer to the QUESTION. (There can be no correct answer, there can be all correct answers, there can be multiple answers or just one correct answer) |
For biochem, I was asked reactive oxygen species and for Physiology I was asked post prandial somnolence.
it's a great course.
