How can that tiny thing carry 1600MW of power. You will get daily DUMSOR. The problem with your power sector - you don't have power company maintaining your network. Yes compared to kenya - you did well not have monopoly in power distribution But you lack something like KETRACO -who job is to plan, design, construct, own, operate and maintain the nation's high voltage electricity transmission grid and regional power. So you are going to be getting a lot of DUMSOR. Your little 1 acre substation cannot hold a transformer like this... 400/220kV 200MVA Transformer arriving at Mariakani substation site. Upon completion, the substation will step up voltage along Mombasa – Nairobi transmission line and evacuate power from Dongo Kundu LNG plant. Just30:

Actually Suswa Substation Complex; hosts the largest converter station in Africa. - Pokuase sit on 1 acre ![]() The substation sits on a 300-acre piece of land and serves as a connection point for six (6) double circuit transmission lines. The Lines are: 220kV Olkaria II – Suswa line 220kV Olkaria 1AU – Suswa line 220kV Olkaria IV – Suswa line 220kV Suswa – Nairobi North line 400kV Suswa – Isinya line (currently operated at 220kV) 400kv Loiyangalani – Suswa line (currently operated at 220kV) The substation operates at three different voltage levels: 500kV HVDC, 400kV and 220kV. The lines are for grid stabilization, transmission line extension and regional power interconnection. Already the 220kV station is energized and operational. The construction of the mega 500kV converter station is complete and pre-commissioning tests are currently ongoing. |
Why would consume so much power when a typical household just need it for 3 hours of lighting at night - and to power TV/fridge? Our priority is to get everyone to access power - and power reliability. We don't have to power an AC like you do.Just30: |
Very tiny. I thought you were excited about something big. I see it 330KVA - but looks very tiny - with small land. Kenya has 400KV substations 1) Suswa being biggest in kenya and possibly in the region outside South Africa - connecting to Ethiopia's grid - to receive 400MW 2) Isinya the 2nd biggest. Isinya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akoODvsgp14 Just30: |
Nairobi consume roughly half of kenya power - that now around 1000mw. Now forget about this MW - If you really want to know how much power is consumed - find out GWH. And for Ghana - remove the 200MW plus for gold smelting - and 200MW by VALCO for aluminium smelting - that is already 400MW. What actually get supplied to household - who use it to power their AC - something you don't need in Nairobi is about 70%. You're spending maybe 10-15 units of power per day per household to just keep yourself sane (cold) - but Kenya we have nature to thank for that. I saw Africa Traveller sweating like a pig in the Ghana heat. Pass the poor guy a water satchet please ![]() And you're here celebrating. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/economy/reduced-signals-nairobi-s-falling-dominance--3359842 Just30:

To become 4th dirtiest city in DIRTY AFRICA takes some trying. You have to be fantastically dirty to make the cut. Like Accra clearly demonstrate. gallivant: |
Where did you bury it? Shaytun: |
They need to teach West Africans how to summarize. Too much verbiage. Saying nothing. Vlain: |
They are still mourning. gallivant: |
Ghana the little shadow of Nigeria. Nobody see you. We see Nigeria in West Africa. Work on your height -- too short. Just30: |
Died out - and yet 3 projects mega housing have broken ground. In private sector - many AHP -are off ground. This one in Tatu city - 1000 units - SOLD OUT - it part of Affordable Housing Units. Remember this 500k units - Gov and Private Sector - will deliver cheap affordable housing. Vlain:

You've been under recession since 2010 or 2014 and therefore I can understand your hopelessness and envy.Vlain: |
There is a lot of ground work. There was housing fund that got stopped by the court. Kenya Mortagage company had to be established. People had to be compensated and evicted from the land. Land had to be bought. And CORONA happened. But groundwork is done. Flagship flew out of the shelf in a day. 15,000 acres like this...handed over to Chinese construction machines...will make it HAPPEN. https://www.reuters.com/article/kenya-eapcc/kenyas-portland-cement-looks-to-land-sales-to-fund-turnaround-idUKL8N1DO1JX Vlain: |
Go here - https://bomayangu.go.ke/ Out of 500K units - already 316,000 kenyans have registered and ready to buy units. Units are being sold for 10K (1 bedroom house) - and that is cheaper than renting - and you can get tenant purchase agreement. Nairobi county will deliver 70,000 units. Nairobi gov has bought 15,000 acres of land - Athi River - from cement company - minning area - that Chinese will land and build thousands units. https://www.reuters.com/article/kenya-eapcc/kenyas-portland-cement-looks-to-land-sales-to-fund-turnaround-idUKL8N1DO1JX Vlain: |
I suggest you get to work down south. Look like Kenya will overtake Ghana remittance wise this year. You're making too much noise - and not working. Kenya set to exceed 3.5B dollars this year. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/markets/currencies/kenyans-abroad-sent-sh31-5-billion-home-in-march-3371118 World Bank>> Within the region, remittances to Kenya have so far stayed positive, though flows are likely to eventually decline in 2021. All major remittance-receiving countries will likely see a decline of remittances Just30:

Ngara - 22,000 wanted a piece of these 1400 units. More are getting built. County gov is providing free land...bring the cost DOWN. Nairobi land is very expensive. Cost incentive - Free Approval Fee - 50% tax - NO VAT on materials - and FREE LAND. And then economies of scale....from many units. All combined bring the cost of a unit to even 10K usd.

If the Brits had sticked in Ghana a little longer they would have taught you sarcasm. Just30: |
Kenya is not Nigeria. Stuff get built. Like I told you Park Road 1400 were sold. There are 22,000 people have made payments. So you can imagine the pent up demand for cheap affordable housing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3j07Zxz8fU If not for Corona - we would be well onto 20,000 units - and target is to get to 500,000 units. Just imagine 500,000 units ![]() After Corona - Chinese building machine will land in Kenya. Vlain: |
Yes I was intrigued why it doesn't look developed; like any developed country would look like; I am satisfied I have all the answers. COOKING DATA. Yemi Kale style.Just30: |
Slum upgrade is different story. This is affordable housing programme. You missed these - 1400 units. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB29ntEpZ4o Vlain: |
Of course. we are fixing our problems. Not hiding them in data. In few years - we will have to blockade our borders - to stop West Africans from running to Kenya. We have 2m housing deficit nationally (Not that people don't have house - but informal housing) Just30: |
Which level - next to those 34 times 15 floors - will be these 8 times 35 - and they are all being sold cheaply. And there is more coming up - 67,000 units - super tall. ABUJA the cattle Kraal with mosque please.Vlain:

You can relax. I am done with Ghana. I have analyzed all I wanted. Electricity, Water, Sewage, Economy, Minerals, Gold, Name it, Cocoa. Nothing is left. It like Nigeria now. I have exposed your lies and propaganda. And that is that. Just30: |
Ngara 1.400 units - were over-subscribed - there were nearly 40,000 people against 1,400 units. These affordable housing will be sold cheaply for 10,000usd to 25,000 usd. Now more are coming up - Pangani has huge one - and of course this one in Kariokor. Not far from 8 times 35 floors - private sector River Towers.
|
After Ngara 1,400 unit housing - comes another - Affordable Housing in Nairobi - 2,000 Units. These will be 32 times 15 floors - that is already bigger than ACCRA and Abuja. And we are building 500,000 such units in the medium term. By the time we are done JOBURG will be dead - and Nairobi will be going toe to toe with CAIRO.

What is there to see except the MOSQUE ![]() Vlain: |
More diarhoea from the resident slowpoke. You see at least Samrobo is into pictures. Now you fail in data. You fail in pictures. All you're doing is trolling. Just30: |
We can engage in debate about data - but when there is videos - what is there to talk about. PUT YOUR BEST VIDEOS of Abuja. And the debate end. You see how South African end the debate. You cannot argue that Kenya is better than South Africa or Algeria. The same way most of you guys are totally INSANE to argue that your dirty shabby cities can compare to Nairobi. Seriously ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ?/Even if you like each other post 1000 times - IT WONT CHANGE FACTS. The same way I cannot say Kenya cities are south african level NOW. That would be insanity. Vlain: |
Ethiopia like Kenya growth (and most of East Africa) is impressive - Non Mineral driven growth. That is the beauty about it - and that is why it very SUSTAINABLE. Remove minerals from West Africa - and it another Central Africa. You cannot claim to be developing - and yet there is barely anything on the ground reflecting. Ethiopia - you can almost touch their growth with bare hands. Just30: |
