Most cities in Africa are also been redeveloped at great pace not just Nairobi. My post was that Nairobi had a good head start. Even as far back as 2009 and 2010, a Nigerian traveller I read on a blog then (who also knew West Africa well) made this observation.

Since then many West African cities are developing fast and catching on e.g Lagos, Accra, Abidjan, Dakar, and Cotonou. Lots of development going on in these cities. Some I dare say at a pace greater than that of Nairobi.

It's painful to say but let's face it. Nairobi has more finesse than any other West African city from all YouTube Videos I've seen over the years and I've seen a lot.

Dakar, Abidjan, and Lagos (mainly Ikoyi and VI) are up there but at this moment, Nairobi in particular is ahead of these cities in the development curve. Accra is also developing fast with good diaspora influx but cannot be compared to Nairobi at the moment especially the best parts of Nairobi.

Nairobi has been kinda free and hospitable to foreigners and foreign investments from India and Europe for decades compared to much of West Africa.

Note: When I say Nairobi or Accra or Lagos, etc. I am comparing their best areas only e.g Westlands, Cantonement, Airport road, Ikoyi, VI, etc.

Another redeeming thing Kenya police are very efficient...rarely do you get out..that Nigerian was nabbed in the airport. Major Kenya cities have Huawei intelligent cameras some with face recognition

Two weeks ago next to my rental flat... Nigerian jumped down n injured himself as he tried to escape police. The Nigerian who cut the girl up happen when Kenyan also killed a girl in Airbnb. Speaking about FX, my problem with Tinubu is that he and the central bank only focussed on unifying the many windows at the official rate into one and they seem to have ignored the black market.

Black market must be unified with the official rate, that's what I want. But it seems that is harder because of the structural challenges that have long been there and most especially the illiquidity of FX compared to demand.

In the past, under Buhari and Emiefele, in addition to the black market, we used to have about three different rates at the official window as well which made the whole FX market so confusing. Tinubu and the CBN have now succeeded in collapsing all windows at the official market into one rate but they are still struggling to tame the black market.

The likes of Dangote and about 85 other firms benefited from some of these different special official rates that was subsidized for them, which is not really a bad idea in my opinion but just had to be done with due process.
