Crazy timelines. 33yrs - with average lifespan of 47yrs - most Nigeria will not see the completion of those roads. Kenya the last 7yrs has build nearly 10,000kms of roads. Annually we are adding more than 2,000 Kms of new roads. The old network are well maintained. Most of murram roads all over kenya are also well maintained. 68816419: |
Will they get completed in your lifetime - and there will be julius berger towns all over. No Money. No roads. Nigeria is too broke to build infrastructure. 68816419: |

According to this https://constructionreviewonline.com/features/africas-growing-steel-industry/ - 2015. Take for instance the case of Nigeria where annual consumption is estimated at 1.5 million tons, this year a new steel rolling mill was established with a capacity to produce 65 percent of this consumption. |
But according to World Steel, your steel consumption per capita is 4 times less than kenya. Kenya imports 1.5m metric tonnes as of 2019 (so definitely 1.6M is old data). Nigeria 5m metric tonnes.. I am still looking for steel production figures for kenya. sirjerry: |
Before we get to production. Let talk exports. Kenya exported 150,000 tonnes to regional countries of iron and steel. Just30: |
Talking of steel - as of 2015 - Nigeria (the paper giant) per capita was 9, TZ 12, Ghana 33, Kenya 37 and South Africa 97.

The mental retardation is rather troubling. We could be engaging a man-child. popizaino: |
Do you sometimes take time for a little personal introspection? I suggest you do it regularly - and see a shrink if possible. Something clearly wrong somewhere in your mental processing. Just30: |
Talk is cheap - Kenya Government data indicates that currently the annual consumption of steel is above 1.6 million tonnes. Maina said that the iron and steel industry in Kenya forms about 13 percent of the manufacturing sector, which in turn contributes significantly to the gross domestic product.3 May 2019 Just30: |
Is that Lamu -Isiolo or Isiolo-Moyale. I know Lamu-Ijara-Garissa Road (250km) is under construction. I am not sure if Garissa-Isiolo has started. Shma2020: |
I am talking about steel plant that convert iron ores into iron pigs into billets. Not one that imports steel from China or India - and roll them. IGpro1: |
Sometimes use at least 5 common senses. Of course unless you're blind. All Ghana cities are shitty looking. Just30: |
Data source please. Shaytun: |
Nigeria use to to be rich during colonial period because of palm oil. One of most profitable British colonies. If they can resuscitate their palm oil industry they will get out poverty. kikuyu1: |
Steel rolling plants. Or steel plant that produce billets? I doubt any exist in Nigeria. Despite Nigeria iron ore, coal and name any mineral. IGpro1: |
mtisTheQubit:more reasons to appreciate people like Bill Gates..modern pharmaceutical industry is profit driven |
kikuyu1:in Kenya palm oil is 3rd most important import..key ingredient for manufacturing of many household items. Nigeria should seriously work on it. |

500M dollars steel plant in Kwale to set up own 55MW plant. Second-largest in Africa after South Africa’s Iron and Steel Industrial Corporation This will produce steel billets. https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/business/business-news/article/2001402843/kwales-mega-steel-plant-plans-own-power-station The Port of Mombasa is gearing to handle up to one million tons per annum of raw material imports for the modern DEVKI Steel smelting plant currently under construction at Samburu, Kwale County, about 54 kilometers from Mombasa. KPA Board Chairman Gen (Rd) Joseph Kibwana led a delegation of senior managers on a visit to the plant projected to be operational in June this year. “This is a very serious industry not just in Kenya, but it is the biggest in Africa,” said the Chairman of DEVKI Group of Companies Dr. Narendra Raval “Guru”. The two held fruitful discussions after a conducted tour of the plant. On his part Gen (Rtd) Kibwana affirmed that the Authority is customer oriented and follows its customers with a view to providing satisfactory services to them. Bulk iron ore, coal, clinker, gypsum will form part of the imports by the plant. Last year, Devki’s bulk imports recorded 1.36 million tons making it the biggest customer on the conventional cargo side.

You started this comparison = of neighberhood - and I was trying to help here slumdog. Austine1213: |

You actually think only interchanges we have are in thika road - I am not sure when they deported you; but Nairobi has been replacing roundabout with interchanges - and wider roads - even eastland now has interchanges. This one example of interchange in pipeline - that is now complete https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9cvOLR00t0 68816419: |
As you may know Nairobi has many low and middle class highrise than south africa cities - it's more like Cairo. Within Nairobi border - it's start from Zimmerman - all the way down to Pipeline. The high rises are intermix with middle class estates. It generally referred to as Nairobi Eastland... 2 out of 3 Nairobi stay here. Nairobi has sowetto like estate - council houses for poor people like you - built during colonial period - that are now being demolished to built highrises. Austine1213: |
Kibera has 5 wards. 3 wards are slums. 2 wards are proper middle class estates. Therefore you can say about 100K live in slums. Wuoche: |
Let me ignore the trash you're posting. Focus on those pictures. You cannot use GDP ppp when threshold is for NOMINAL GDP. Yes gdp ppp is an attempt to get something equivalent to the dollar - but obviously it has it weakness - and therefore is not accepted. Nominal gdp is therefore the gold standard here. Obviously there is some use for GDP PPP - for example for internal stuff like tracking poverty etc. jln115: |
Where did you get 350B - which is 2019 level - you mean all that contraction and rand depreciation - is nothing to you. Your economy is expected to contract by jaw dropping 8% - that alone will take out nearly 30-40B out of 2019 figures. Now add rand depreciation - economic contraction of - 8% + rand depreciation - and you will get South Africa nominal gpd for 2020. jln115: |
Nice - with Ruaka developing into high rises - that area could form a new business district/city. Shma2020: |
This year (2020) I have seen 280B estimates. It's about time we get final figures from South African statistic body - they must be crunching the last Q. I don't calculate - it's only SA stats body that does that - the rest of us can only estimate based on figures we see jln115: |
Look here idio.t. Nobody uses GDP ppp outside their country. It's used for internal purposes. The classification of countries into LDC, LMI, UMI and Developed countries is based on NOMINAL GDP. To become developed - you need to cross 12,500 usd - at least by world bank - although many consider even higher figures. South Africa has no hope - given it's gdp per capita - (again keep the PPP for your own internal use) - is 4,500 now - just 500 dollars - before World Bank/Imf/ everyone declares you a LOW MIDDLE INCOME country. jln115: |
