Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged in his Christmas Eve message that many Ukrainians want to see Russian President Vladimir Putin dead. “‘May he perish,’ each of us may think to ourselves,” Zelensky said in the broadcast. “But when we turn to God, of course, we ask for something greater.” “We ask for peace for Ukraine. We fight for it. And we pray for it. And we deserve it, so that every Ukrainian family lives in harmony.” https://thehill.com/policy/international/5663011-zelensky-christmas-message-putin-russia-ukraine/ |

Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan Assumes Leadership of NUPRC, Vows Bold Reforms to Boost Nigeria's Upstream Oil & Gas Sector Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan has officially taken charge as the Commission Chief Executive (CCE) of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Eyesan, whose nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was confirmed by the Senate earlier in December following the resignation of the previous CCE, emphasized her commitment to making NUPRC a proactive business enabler rather than just a regulator. She pledged to reignite investor confidence, accelerate digitisation, transparency, and efficiency, and position the Commission as the gold standard regulator in Africa. In a statement issued by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head of Media & Strategic Communications at NUPRC, she expressed a firm ambition to increase Nigeria's crude oil production and significantly boost gas output to support national energy security and economic growth. She said she plans to foster stronger stakeholder engagement, including with industry players, unions, professional bodies, and the public, as well as an open-door leadership style with frequent staff interactions and capacity-building initiatives to enhance technical expertise. She said, “The goal is that we must enable the industry, we are regulators. We must enable the industry from our interactions with the stakeholders, from our interactions with everybody. “If we work together we can unleash opportunities, I don’t see impediments only opportunities.” https://x.com/Imranmuhdz/status/2003845850082992440

The Supreme Court has rebuffed President Donald Trump’s attempt to deploy National Guard troops in Illinois to protect federal officials carrying out his mass-deportation policy. In their ruling Tuesday, the justices noted that federal law generally bars use of the military for law enforcement, and they declared that the law Trump used to activate the Guard is likely to apply only when regular armed forces — the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines — are insufficient to maintain order. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/12/23/supreme-court-national-guard-ruling-00704962 |

Kano Governor Commends President Tinubu and Rep Bichi for ₦47bn Road and Sewage Project Approval Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving ₦47 billion in federal funding to complete the long-abandoned Jakara-Wuju-Wuju road and sewage project in Kano metropolis. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following the 35th Executive Council meeting, Governor Yusuf highlighted the project's significance. Originally initiated in 2013 by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the multipurpose infrastructure was stalled during the subsequent administration but revived through state-federal collaboration. "My administration, upon careful assessment, sought federal intervention to ensure completion. The request received swift approval from the Federal Executive Council," Yusuf stated, describing President Tinubu's decision as "a clear demonstration of responsive leadership and commitment to infrastructural development, particularly in Kano State." The governor also singled out praise for Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations and federal lawmaker representing Bichi Federal Constituency. Yusuf commended Bichi's "consistency, commitment, and relentless follow-up" from the National Assembly to the Presidency, ensuring the project's approval and protecting Kano's interests. He called Bichi a "worthy ambassador" of the state and urged other Kano federal lawmakers to emulate his dedication and patriotism, irrespective of political affiliations. Yusuf further acknowledged Bichi's role in facilitating additional projects, including the International Conference Centre along Maiduguri Road and a proposed international-standard stadium in Bichi. The ₦47 billion project, which traverses Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala, and Fagge Local Government Areas, aims to control erosion, improve sewage systems, and boost economic activities. The Kano State government has already completed 850 meters, with the federal intervention funding the remaining 6.7 kilometers. Governor Yusuf appealed to President Tinubu for approval of more major projects in Kano, Nigeria's most populous state, while reaffirming his administration's commitment to partnering with the federal government for sustainable development. Construction has already commenced, as flagged off earlier this week by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, who reiterated the federal government's dedication to the initiative. https://x.com/Imranmuhdz/status/2001889491905110441 |

Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a final order stopping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its 2025 National convention scheduled for Ibadan, in Oyo State. The convention is scheduled to take place between November 15 and 16 for the purpose of electing national officers for the PDP. However, Justice Peter Odo Lifu, in his final judgement on Friday afternoon, in a suit filed by former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, barred PDP from proceeding with the convention until it complies with its Constitution and Guidelines on the convention. He ordered that the Ibadan convention be put on hold until Sule Lamido is allowed to purchase a nomination form for the office of National Chairman. NYN mobilizes members for PDP National Convention, backs Makinde’s leadership PDP Rivers chapter boycotts national convention The Judge prohibited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising, monitoring or aiding the Ibadan convention until the former Jigawa State governor is allowed to participate in the convention. The Judge held that PDP is under strict obligation to adhere to its own rules and regulations by giving opportunities to eligible members to realise their aspirations. He said that it was wrong of the PDP to have denied Lamido the opportunity to purchase nomination form for the office of the national chairman of the party. Sherrill wins New Jersey governor’s race Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) is projected to defeat former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli (R) in the New Jersey governor’s race, securing a major win for Democrats in their first election cycle since the start of President Trump’s second term, according to Decision Desk HQ. Sherrill, a fourth-term congresswoman representing a district in northern New Jersey, fended off a competitive challenge from Ciattarelli, who ran for governor for a third time after narrowly losing to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) in 2021. Murphy is term-limited and couldn’t run again.

Former Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) defeated Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R) in Virginia’s gubernatorial election on Tuesday, according to Decision Desk HQ, becoming the first woman to serve as governor of the commonwealth. Her victory in the closely watched bellwether state will be touted by the Democrats’ moderate wing in particular, as the party wrestles with how to define itself heading into next year’s midterm elections. Spanberger first came onto the political scene in 2018 when she ousted former Republican Rep. Dave Brat in the state’s 7th Congressional District. She served in Congress, where she had a history of working with Republicans, from 2019 to the beginning of 2025. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5583526-spanberger-virginia-gubernatorial-victory/

The Office is tasked with handling the intake, examination, and resolution of complaints concerning taxes, levies, regulatory charges, customs duties, excise-related issues, and other associated matters, ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations.
