ProgrammingAre You A Real Programmer? Can You Code With Notepad? by saemmanuel(op): 10:31am On Jun 13, 2012
Nigerian today boast that they know how to program they don’t , Myself as an example, am a Java programmer and I got my certificate from NIIT in the year 2011, throughout my course of study, I was never consistent, I skip classes most of the time. Yet they still award me the certificate because I can create software and write programs using IDEs and they thought I am a good programmer whereas I am not. Not until recently, I discover this and I am a bit sad.

Because you can create software, program using IDE doesn’t make you a real programmer, the real professional programmer is someone who can write, build program and software using NOTEPAD and someone who can use Command Prompt CMD very well in the course of computing. I discover that IDEs though make your work faster; it doesn’t give you the efficiency you need and also doesn’t give you the deep knowledge of programming syntax, method and step. Also, it doesn’t give you detail explanation about set of command you pass into your program, that is why some programmers are not employable this days because they don’t really know how things work.

They just know after some gambling, try and error things, they are done. That is why it is easy for us to copy other people work and we fail to work on our own ideas, bring out our own innovative thinking and make it into some that will affect our life locally and internationally. Am not saying that if you can work with IDEs very well mean that you are not a good programmer but what make you a professional is if you can actually write codes from the scratch using notepad or any word processor. Note that all Notepad Programmer can use any IDEs to write comprehensive program but not all IDEs programmer can use Notepad to write same.
EducationThe Journey Of A Fresher by saemmanuel(op): 3:33pm On Jun 11, 2012
Normally, if we are traveling to somewhere, we tend to ask questions like: Where am I going? What am I going to do? Why I am going? How will I get there? What will I gain from this journey? These are the same set of question a person who just gains admission into a university will also ask himself/herself.

Where am I going?
You are going to a university/polytechnic/college of education where their solely role is to teach and impact knowledge on you. A place where education is their major concern, in addition, they will make you a better person if you give them the chance.

What am I going to do?
You are going to study a course of your choice, even if it is not your choice but since you accept it; it has become your cross. You have to know what you are going to face, the challenges, the work and all information you will need pertaining the course. You need to believe in yourself that you are going to excel in this area of study otherwise if fear overcomes your mind, you are sure to fail. You don’t have to mind those people saying this course is hard/difficult, people who say do you think you are going to get good job in this field of yours, if they gain your attention, you are already preparing the seedbed of your failure. Note that different stages have different challenges and it requires different approach, mentality, amount of work and commitment. You have to understand this and have a better plan towards all this if you are going to be successful. Hence, have faith in yourself and ability to be successful will set in and you will surge forward.

Why am I going?
To become something in life i.e. you don’t want to be left out or be inferior among your friend/counterpart, in your community and in Nigeria as a whole. You are in there so that you can get a mean of livelihood and become a better person in the nearest future so that you won’t be a burden/nuisance to your family, community or the government.

How will you get there?
Before you can get there i.e. get to the top, you have to Sacrifice. Tread upon the path of Knowledge, buckle your shoe of Commitment, drink the water of Hard Work, tighten the belt of Faith, wore a shirt of Determination, a bag full of Energy, wore a boot that will help you kick out Distraction, submit all your Procrastinations to the dust-bin, put on a tie of Prayer and have a glass of Focus on. You will come out successful with good grade, become somebody to reckon with and also, you will be Happy with yourself. Remember, only a happy mind can be at peace and can think of good things.

Science/TechnologyViruses Can Now Power Electronics – Scientists by saemmanuel(op): 10:08am On May 24, 2012
Scientists have developed a technique to generate power with harmless viruses that convert mechanical energy into electricity.
The breakthrough could mean that one day, we might be able to charge our cell phones with paper-thin generators that harvest electricity from the vibrations of everyday tasks such as shutting a door or climbing stairs, the scientists said.

“More research is needed, but our work is a promising first step toward the development of personal power generators, actuators for use in nano-devices, and other devices based on viral electronics,” said Seung-Wuk Lee, a scientist at the US Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

The device works by harnessing the piezoelectric properties of the M13 bacteriophage, a virus that only attacks bacteria and is benign to people.
Piezoelectricity is electricity resulting from accumulation of a charge in a solid in response to pressure and is the basis for items like electric cigarette lighters and push-start propane barbecues.
“We’re now working on ways to improve on this proof-of-principle demonstration,” Mr Lee added.
“Because the tools of biotechnology enable large-scale production of genetically modified viruses, piezoelectric materials based on viruses could offer a simple route to novel microelectronics in the future.”

This is a Major breakthrough from the US Department of Energy; but what are we doing, we the scientist of Nigeria. It is high-time we wake up from our slumber and start researching in the area of technology if we are going to be among the most developed countries of the world in the nearest future.

LiteratureThinking In The Postive And Negative Direction by saemmanuel(op): 6:18am On May 15, 2012
Human Being only thinks in the positive direction; although, this is right but not ideal. We have to think in the Negative direction too, it prepares our mind and soul incase the unexpected happen but it will be unreasonable when you let your negative thinking overcome your positive one; negative thinking is needed incase failure sets in. In thinking about something or trying to do something, you have to weigh the positive and negative outcome of it.

This will help in coping with the outcome of thinking. If the outcome is positive, we as a Normal Human Being will be happy and we will plan towards another success. But if the Outcome is Negative, what will happen? WE WILL BE DEPRESSED, DISCOURAGED AND DISAPPOINTED. These are the 3Ds that kill but it won’t take a long while before the 3Ds disappear if we have the negative thought at the back of our mind and plan toward it. If we don’t have this at the back of our mind, we may end up being sick and lost because of this 3Ds and it can actually lead to death if care is not taken.

When thinking about the negative outcome, think deeply on what can cause it, how to eliminate it before actually executing the thought/plan and what to do if it actually happens. Also, pray that it won’t happen and make sure this thinking doesn’t outweigh your positive thinking because this will make the 3Ds to sets in and actually cause your failure even before executing the thought/plan.

If the outcome is now negative, the next thing is to reorganize ourself, look for what actually cause the failure, how to rectify the failure, how to prevent the occurrence, and how to get a better result next time. This will save us some useful time the 3Ds should have use in weighing us down. It will give us strength to stand up and move on. It will lift our emotion. Make us stronger and we will actually succeed in our next attempt. Amen.

Failure is when you fail/fall and refuse to rise up, so each time you fall/fail; it is actually telling you that you are not yet there. So Readers, pick up and dust yourself, anytime you fall/fail, continue the race of life and don’t give up. Remember, Life itself is a Risk.
