TV/Movies / The Voice Nigeria Season 1 (official Thread) by safareegurl: 5:01pm On Jun 26, 2016
A thread was earlier created for this show, but apparently, someone didn't think it worth FP. Why?

Anyway, I'm creating a new thread for the show. Hopefully, it makes FP just like the Project Fame threads...or gains some followership.

I'll be posting pictures as well as videos when I can of performances of the contestants. So, here goes.

The Voice Nigeria is a subsidiary of the global phenomenon: The Voice, which exists in up to 50 countries some of which include USA, UK, Albania, Portugal, Holland, Germany, Mexico, Brazil etc. The Voice Nigeria is the third version of the show in Africa after The Voice South Africa and The Voice Angola which finished some months ago.

The show started sometime in April with auditions which saw four judges: Timi, Patoranking, Waje and 2face pick 12 contestants each.

Stage 1(Blind auditions): This means Judges will have their chairs turned away from the stage, so they can only hear the contestants' voices and if they like what they here, they push a button and the chair turns so they can see the contestant.

If more than one judge turns for the contestant, he/she will then be required to choose which team he wants to join.

Chike's audition (Team Patoranking)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVxua4ZzGY4

Cornel's Audition (Team Timi)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M94XeVvFzes

2nd Stage (Battle Rounds): This is the stage before the live shows. Here, the power is back in the hands of the judges. They pit two members of their team against each other and have them battle each other for a spot.

The judges will then save which contestant they feel did better while the losing contestant leaves the competition

Daivy Jones vs Joe Blue Battle (Team Timi)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0D3k1pI9Ac

Emem vs. Shammah Battle (Team Waje)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdhYCrX4YyQ

The Steal: In the 2nd stage of the competition, there is a steal. This means, another judge gets to steal a losing contestant and this contestant joins the team of the judge that stole him/her. Each judge is entitled to 2 steals each.

Where two judges steal a contestant, the contestant will choose which judge he prefers.

Armstrong vs Viveeyan Battle (Team Timi)...Viveeyan was stolen by 2face after losing to Armstrong

Dawn vs. Uche Michael battle (Team Waje)...Uche was stolen by Patoranking

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMZ4aR9E6gA

Third Stage (Live Shows): Finally, this is where the viewers get their power. The contestants will perform songs during the live shows and the viewers will be required to cast their votes for their favourite contestants between Sunday and Wednesdays

You are taking this issue too far. Even the players are thinking about other things ,the contestants will gather together soon and laugh everything over. This is just a fun competition, nothing real nothing serious
that's what it was before sponsors and cash prizes.

I'm suggesting a better process. This is Nairaland, the biggest online forum in Nigeria. A little credibility is required.

Just trying to improve the process. If someone didn't suggest it, there would be no voice recording for the contestants.

If you think it hasn't been thought of then I don't know how you see things. Do you think I don't know how pageants are being run? What's obtainable in real life pageants is quite different from what we can have here.

Where will the 5 neutral judges come from?

Seun who has nothing to do with the selection of the winner has been accused of bias and supporting a contestant. The moderators who have been trying to maintain sanity on the threads have been accused of favoritism. How much more 5 ordinary fellow members who will decide the winner?

Think about it. Right now you are my problem with the way you're watering down my efforts and my team's but adopting that method will bring about even bigger problems. You think

Think about it. Have foresight. Then think about it.
5 judges from 5 different Sections. I already stated that earlier.

Which favoritism will a judge from Sports Section have if the winner is from the romance section? You're bringing together 5 people who don't even frequent the same sections and presenting to them 5 ladies/guys who they most likely don't even know.

It's the same model the debates have and the outcry is little to none unlike here. People will always complain, but you're trying to tone it down and this model will achieve that.

You won't even repeat judges. There's a different set every year.

If you can try that once an it fails, it won't be for lack of trying. You haven't even tried it and you're already trashing it. If this current method has raised questions, try a new one next time. If that one fails, go back to the drawing board.

That's how progress is made, you guys aren't even trying to factor in suggestions. The only suggestion implemented so far has been the voice notes addition. If people are complaining of voting process, try a new pattern. Nobody says it will be perfect, it just has to be better than the current one

I honestly thought you had smarter ideas. undecided
the 5 neutral judges will ensure it's not a popularity contest.

It's the same tactic used in pageants worldwide. You couldn't pick enough holes in the idea and you think it's not smarter than what you have now?

You don't see people questioning the top 5, it's just the winner.

This is far smarter than what is on ground, you just won't admit it because that would mean admitting the current process is flawed

You keep tagging this contest a popularity contest. That's what the losers always say.

Even when I won the MR.Nairaland I. 2014 they said the same thing. I guess I'm ugly too,LOL!

You can't compare an online debate to an online pageantry. How can you compare them? All you need in a debate is to write an argumentative essay and drop it. There are already certain rules guiding it.

How is it possible for judges to assess contestants that they can't see physically? What if the "ugly" one still answers their questions intelligently?

There are so many things involved in a beauty pageant that is not even applied in this online one. And one thing I know for sure is that people would still fight and complain if their candidate doesn't win cos they will complain that the judges are biased.
lol....how do the judges in beauty pageants pick winners? Do they know them? Is it not by a certain criteria?

-Looks
-Intelligence
- Ability to answer questions

For an online forum, you add things like

-How does said person relate with other NLers?
- What is your participation level? Are you a regular or you just pass by?

If I got to organize this thing, there would be little or no loopholes to question.

The organization of a pageant in the real world is no different from debates. The NL Debate judges don't see the contestants in person as well. What makes you think some wouldn't have won if they got to stand in the presence of the judges?

Just like the pageants, the Debate teams don't get to speak to the judges unlike in the real world. In reality, some of those who lost debates would have gained an edge based on oratory.

I maintain that the process used in NL Debates is fairer....NLers will get the same powers people get in pageants. Remember, it's viewers votes that get contestants in the Top 15 of a pageant after which the panel of judges take over.

NLers votes will get contestants in the Top 5 after which the judges will take over. All you'll have to do is 'LIKE' the picture of who you think deserves a top 5 spot and when the likes are tallied, those with the most likes will go through.

Is that not an easier process than this one where you call an NLJega who may or may not be tallying the right numbers? Who is just a human being PRONE to errors?

Seun, Dygeasy, Ishilove or whoever organizes these things. Is the idea of NLers LIKING pictures to determine a Top 5 after which a panel of 5 judges from 5 different Sections chooses a winner not more feasible, legitimate and LESS STRESSFUL than the ancient method currently on ground?

It is an online contest and the only way a winner can emerge is by letting people vote.

If you want it to be as you described where the judges get to pick the winners there will be worse controversies.

These people organizing this contest are ordinary members of Nairaland like you so they have no upper hand in that. That is why it is preferred for the majority to pick their winner other than a cabinet with just five or six people making the final decision.

DemocRacy is still the best form of government till today because it is believed it's what the people want.

Will you accept it if just a group of people sit in one corner to select your president for you? I think not.

Everybody was given the right to decide and the result announced yesterday is the outcome of the majority's decision.
BEAUTY CONTEST, not Presidential Election. She won't be making policies, she has no vested powers, she's not going to determine how much you get paid or whether you get banned or not. What impact has any winner ever had on NL?/They can't even approach Seun on your behalf, so why will they ask a bunch of sentimental folks to vote?

Even democratic processes are flawed.

There will be less questions if only 5-7 NEUTRAL people eventually pick a winner. Then, what will people accuse them of?

Get 5 members from different sections to constitute a panel of judges to choose the eventual winner. It will still end as majority carrying the vote, just a majority that isn't biased.

Is that too hard to comprehend?

You'll never see the point because most of those who vote here are biased. If you were looking at it from a neutral point, you would understand. I'm done here please.

Good day.

I'm really trying to wrap my head around that flawed aspect.

A thread is opened for the contest and a girl, seeing this thread picks interest in it and decides that she wants to contest because she feels she is beautiful enough to get that crown.

She relays her intention to other well meaning friends and they come together to support her and ensure she wins.

As fate would have it, the girl wins as a result of her teams hard work and doggedness.

Please madam kindly tell me what is flawed about that. Or are you saying some set of people should not be allowed to contest?

Maybe a criteria should be made that only strictly pretty girls should contest. Is that your point?

Still trying to wrap my head around it.
I've already explained what a non-flawed process looks like.

Her friends can rally support for her. Nairalanders get to pick a top 5, after which a panel of judges pixka the winner and relays that to us.

How many times do you see people questioning NL Debates? You can't because a team of judges and experts choose winners.

If they can organise this Miss NL like that, people won't complain. Someone suggested this process in 2014, but the organizers failed to take note.

This process is more of a popularity contest. A girl gets her friends to lobby for her, whichever girl has more influential friends wins. Which pageant is organised like that in this world? undecided

So the process is illegitimate now?

By what standard? undecided
flawed more of it.

It's now a popularity contest. Anyone who is not active on romanceland can't win. It's sort of unfair.....but, that's life.

Back then, more people voted based on what they saw and read, not because they were asked to. These days, people lobby. Like a political appointment. It's a beauty contest, not an election. Everyone shouldn't even be allowed to decide a winner. The only power we should have is choosing the top 5 after which a selected few can decide who wins based on a laid down criteria

You see how the NL Debates are organized? That is a legitimate process

You didn't need to mention her before people take up arms against you. We are not dumb not to know that you were referring to her.

Secondly, it's good you know that the contestant is not to be blamed for winning the contest and there's nothing wrong with the organization of this contest. I see nothing flawed here.

People saw the candidates and chose who they wanted to stick with. Others saw her and had your opinions too and they chose other "finer" contestants whom they felt could win. You don't know the work her campaign group went through to achieve this feat.

If you think winning an online beauty pageant such as this, where the winner is decided by votes is based on beauty alone then you are mistaken. There is a whole lot of hard work needed by her team and yes, the contestant's character and the people she works with matters a lot. You don't work with people of questionable character or if you yourself has bad character and expect to win. NO!

Those girls whom people are saying are prettier than the winner know by themselves that their team didn't work as hard as the winner's team. That's just the plain truth. If one of them were the candidate of the winner's campaign team then I'm sure it would have been them jubilating today.

We have been in romance section ever since and we know what's been happening so somebody cannot come from outside to tell us something different when he/she is oblivious of what's been going on.

People have voted and it's their choice. Lanicky was not appointed QUEEN, she was put there by the power of people's votes.

It's what the majority want, they don't care if she is the finest of them or not. They are just happy with her being their queen.

What is so hard in understanding that?

I didn't see anyone when I voted and I voted her.

You may not see anything wrong in it doesn't mean it's not flawed. Many don't see anything wrong with Buhari either.

Anyway, the pageant doesn't go far so no wahala. Just some way to have fun smiley

Nigerians are just fickle. The headline says Drake and the body mentions only Drake. If Linda had posted "Drake ft. Kyla" while omitting Wizkid, that would have been an issue.

What we have, is just a bunch of people making assumptions where there is none. No be only Wiz feature for the song, if the girl's name didn't enter the article, why should Wizkid's?

Anyway, before it gets old...here's my apology

would like to sincerely apologise to anyone I may have offended with my words knowingly or unknowingly (minus those who attacked me)

Anyone who's familiar with me on here knows that I don't exactly know when to stop, I just keep going and going and using hurtful words when I'm attacked. so, yeah, still working on my tolerance level.

Like I said, the process of choosing winners in this contest is flawed. it's not the winner's fault, it is what it is. Hence, many will continue to turn their noses at it until it's reviewed.

I want to also congratulate Lanicky, Mimzy, Ivyy, Refiner, Optional1, Mysticgal and all the other brave women who put themselves out in the open for random people to critic them and make assumptions about em. Like I said last year, it takes a strong mind to do these things.

Especially, I want to congratulate the teams that partook because, to be sincere, the real winners here are the dogged team members who stalk people till they vote their contestants

Now, can we get to the good stuff? Bring on the male eye candies wink
