vivaciousvivi: Someone mentioned that it was a seminar and there were members of the Press present. Who then to believe? But I do get your point. as for Hollywood, celebs like Lisa Dunham and De Niro addressed the matter publicly afterwards on why they changed their minds - and yes, a lot of people still criticised them. Believe me, the American public are some of the most critical and outspoken bunch of humans on earth. But to start another round of media tirade - and insults is most unbecoming for a man of his stature and calibre brother I'll go with Newsweek. This is what a search on Google turned up. "In a recent discussion with students at the University of Oxford in the U.K., which was shared ina video on October 27, the author vowed to destroy his green card should Trump be declared the winner of the election." http://europe.newsweek.com/exclusive-donald-trump-pull-us-boko-haram-fight-says-soyinka-518928?rm=eu |

MrPrsdent: EXCUSE ME PLEASE.... 1. Every ADULT who is granted a green card has to apply for one. Documents needs to be submitted, application needs to be filed and SIGNED BY THE APPLICANT/BENEFICIARY. Interviews take place ,either in the US or in the applicants' home country ,before permanent residency is granted. So NO ONE CAN GET A GREEN CARD FOR ANYONE. So if the Prof said Jimmy carter just went and got a green card for him. THAT"S A LIE. 2. Green Card is just a physical card representing your status of permanent residency in the U.S. If you tear it up or lose it, you can always get a replacement. It doesn't mean tearing it up is a loss of your permanent residency status. If the prof tore it up, he is still a permanent resident of the US and can always pay for a new card to be issued. Replacement cost is $365. Here is a US govt site where you apply for replacement green card. https://www.uscis.gov/i-90. BTW,there is no proof he ever tore it up. 3. The green card is mostly shown while entering the US from overseas. For day to day living in the US, you would seldom be asked to produce it. Because you will already have your social security number and state I.D/Driving licence. The state ID/social security links to your immigration status in the US,so the green card is not needed. That's what (I.D card/driving licence/SSN card) law enforcement or employers would ask you to show. So even if the Prof destroyed his green card, all he has to do is go to US immigration or US embassy overseas, present his Nigerian passport and they would check his details on the computer and fingerprints/photos, and stamp his passport with his green card details. That's all. He doesn't actually need the physical green card to enter or remain in the U.S. 4. The prof is most probably playing to the gallery. I'm sure he'd be back in the U.S within months. He's just traveling ,giving paid lectures and speeches overseas and pretending he's left the U.S once and for all. Emory uni it is.Contact Jimmy Carter. |

otukpo: Somebody should please advise Soyinka to stop ranting. He is embarrassing himself. He needs to set the record straight. If not, these millipedes will soil his good name when he's no longer around. He ran to the US and obtained a green card: now we know Jimmy Carter got it for him. He would not come and enjoy the Change he brought on us: he is presently in the country. He can't tear his greencard. He knows he would not he allowed into the US if he does that: we now know he once applied for an exiat etc. Silence is not golden in this case. Doing so will make them think & say they discomfitted him into silence. Now they're pissed that he replies. They're angry that he denies them this rare chance to run their mouths without wiring their jaws shut. bigfrancis21: 1)With the rate of east-west marriages going on in the west, the west is gradually being saturated with Igbo blood/DNA with so many half-Igbos littered across south west. In no time the amount of pure Yorubas may be minority. Probably, DNA studies of Yorubas will take on a new dimension with a great many having maternal DNA (mitochondrial DNA - the mitochondria is something every child inherits exclusively from the mother) from Igboland. 2)PS: I don't mean to discriminate but I would like to add here that majority of Igbo ladies (especially from Imo state) that marry outside are those who faced discrimination or little chances of marrying within Igboland due to an 'osu' status thus the preference to marry outside. These ladies who marry outside do so primarily out of internal pressures. If the osu caste system were to be stopped in Igboland completely, majority of the few percentage of Igbo ladies marrying outside would prefer to marry within the tribe. 1) Not to worry, they get raised in Yorubaland, so epigenetics will surely have its way. 2)Love has a mind of its own. Why are you trying to make it sound like the 'Yoruba demons' are not walking down the aisle with some of the best Igbo chics out there? C'mon, we know better. |

It's not a ripoff of the Statue of Liberty. " Before she had been in the country very long, she had learnt all the secrets of her enemies. She found that they were not gods but ordinary men. On going into battle they wore strange mantles of grass and bamboo fibre, and this accounted for their unnatural appearance. She also learned that because of these mantles of dry grass, they were much afraid of fire, and that if the Ifes were to rush among them with lighted torches, they would quickly be defeated. As soon as it was possible, she escaped from the palace and from the territory of the Igbos and returned to her own people. Her tidings were joyfully received at Ile-Ife, and shortly afterwards the Igbos were utterly defeated by the trick Moremi had suggested." http://omoyorubadfw.org/Story-of-Moremi.html . |

Those of us calling it a ripoff of the Statue of Liberty need to pause for a while and think about the iconography of the torch-bearing raised hands of both Statues. I believe an art expert will know what it means. Let's not sprain our ankles by jumping into conclusion too soon . |

MadamExcellency: Folorunsho Alakija is a Billionaire', Stella Oduah is a corrupt politician while Patience Jonathan, who opened the first community bank in Rivers State can't make money.
Kikikikiki!
Keep deceiving yourselves. Among the three women I mentioned, she is the least to become a self-made billionaire without corruption and government dash dash.
Someone said import waiver is corruption because the bulk went to Easterner but allocation of Oil Well freely isn't corruption worth probing.
Diezani Madueke (who we were told that her wages can't buy her golden ornaments) can't in any way be compared to Folorunsho Alakija (a mere tailor) in anyway in Oil business and operations, yet her oil deals are corruption while Alakija's is doggedness.
Who be mumu in this contraception called Nigeria? Why not treat everyone equally, irrespective of region and use the same rule of law for every Dike, Tope and Haruna for a mutual sense of belonging. What do you mean by a "mere tailor"? She learnt her vocation in reputable schs(I think). And lest I forget,Amancio Ortega who deals in the stuff made by "mere tailor(s)" is always ranked among the top 5 richest men in the world. Tailors fashion designers are not "mere" afterall. Go through your post again. You'll realise that all the women you compared with Folorunsho Alakija are public office holders. No one gave a fork about them before they stepped into the national scene. |
