Only a fool will think that postponing elections for 6 weeks is a smart move. 1. 6 weeks will eventually turn to 6minutes 2. It has confirmed that the president had already seen the hand writting on the wall that he will lose the elections and he is panic stricken, hitherto undecided voters are likey going to vote for its opponent now 3. The international community has been alerted tothe possibilty of foul play and will be on the look out for any mago mago, the US secretary has already expressed its displeasure. 4. That action has corroborated suspicions in some quarters that GEJ is either directly or indirectly supporting boko haram to perpetuate himself in office 5. It has also confirmed that GEJ takes decision based on emotions and that he is not a hard headed strategist, a strategist will not wait till a week to elections when there are all indications that he will lose b4 taking panic stricken decisions such as this. 6. It has also raised strong suspicions in certain areas that GEJ is really afraid of vacating aso rock because of unprecedented monumental fraud that he commited and fear of retribution.
If polling units are bombed it will lead to an inconclusive election. And it is this same ignorant set that will criticise and complain.

This election postponement is most embarrassing and a testament that Preofessor Attahiru Jega is an incompetent and clueless dude just like the President. This is the first time since we returned to democracy that the INEC Boss will openly take orders from the NSA, the Military and members of pro-PDP as regards election scheduling and rescheduling. Since when has the Military activities determines elections scheduling? The Electoral Act and the Constitution did not say NSA, Military and INEC should determine election date. Even if there is crises in a part of the country, Section 26(1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (amended) permit INEC to hold election in the peaceful area and reschedule for the trouble zone at a convenient date. Why can't Jega invoke this section and exclude Gombe, Borno, Adamawa and Yobe from Feb 14 and Feb 28 poll until March 28 and Aprill 11 respectively? Since when do we need the Military for election? What is the Statutory duties of the Police, the NSCDC, and by extension the DSS with respect to internal security? If personnels are not enough then why not bring in other paramilitary to assist? Must it be the Military? Was the Military used in 2003, 2007 and 2011 election? Militarisation started from Edo 2012,then Ondo(2012), Anambra(2011), Osun and Ekiti(2014) Gubernatorial contests. When did the Military become statutory responsible for internal security? The letter of the Chief of Defense State that was communicated to Jega through NSA Sambo Dasuki is treachery and unfortunate. Jega's announcement yesternight only confirmed that he doesn't know what he is doing. This is a shame, our democracy has been raped.

fiizznation:
fighting boko haram is not a genuine reason for postponing the awaited elections. My instinct tells me two things which I will kindly share with you. And the are:

1. The government wants to cut an entire region out from participating in the election which I strongly believe is NE. By doing so, a stronghold of the opposition has been rendered useless. The ruling party tactically allowed the boko haram menace to escalate so that they can use that as an excuse incase of any raining days. A very dangerous and wicked move if you ask me. Thousands of Nigerians lives have been wasted because of one man's ambition.

2. They ruling party will either find ways/means to get buhari disqualified or get the inec chairman replaced by someone who will dance to their tunes.

As a northerner that I am, I will say am a little bit happy with this development because it clearly shows the entire country who are they real power drunks.

PoliticsImmunity And The Question Of Forgiveness! ~by Usiobaifo Festus Osagie by saint047(op): 9:41am On Feb 08, 2015
Immunity has been described as the act of exepmting someone from prosecution or liablity. There is,Legislative,Executive and Judicial imunity. The crux of this immunity is that no one can be blamed or prosecuted for anything done/said while acting in his/their official capacity(s).Although the concept of Executive immunity cannot be limited to this hastened analysis. However,Mc Ojobi in his book (" The Journey"yet to be publised) suggested that Immunity ought to cover Political parties. In his analysis,he opined that members of political parties cannot be held liable for sponsoring the wrong candidate(s) in an election or for saying anything defamatory and/or inflammatory in the cause of their electioneering campaigns. It follows therefore that PDP cannot be blamed for sponsoring Jonathan.
This plea is clearly underlined by the fact that no man must be punished for whatever he does politically to eke out ends meet. Therefore, anyman is allowed to resort to all means permissable to defend the source of his livelihood. In Practice however, Nigerians have always forgiven political leaders for presenting/sponsoring wrong candidates. This is quite understandable. However,Mc Ojobi postulates that such polilcal immunity cannot cover supporters of political parties who are not registered members. This position stemmed from the fact that an ordinary supporter who has no direct benefit to get from the candidate(s) ought to have allowed his conscience and public good be the determinants of his polical actions/decisions.
While party members cannot be blamed for being blind, selfish or insensitive in their political actions,a mere supporter would be blamed for not allowing his sense of public good prevail in supporting any candidate. In the light of the above,I therefore ask Nigerians this simple questions: Do you think Nigeria will forgive the supporters of GEJ if he manages to win the 14th february election?

seriously if u watch d conference and listen carefully u will see that on the part of INEC everything is okay, but thier hands was tied with the electoral act constitution jega mentioned and to better understand what was wrong all we need is a week. the so call security heads that wrote the letter will av no choice than to strt acting in accordance wit wat dey mentioned in the letter. which is to fight d BH and restore an atmosphere where election culd take place in the affected areas. if d north av been cooperative ever since the so call campaign it wuldnt av added fuel to this, burning campaign cars further strengthing d need for protection of lives and properties. over 600,000 youth will be involve in this not to talk of d staff of inec and d society at large. so the postponement is a gud justification on my part but d security must start acting to show that they were not influenced. no matter wat the case may be the next president as been destined right from the day he was born. PoliticsUncertainty As Jega Decides Polls Date 5pm by saint047(op): 3:46pm On Feb 07, 2015
There is anxiety in the country as Nigerians wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission to speak on whether it will go ahead with its earlier timetable or pick new dates for the elections.

The earlier dates indicated that the Presidential and National Assembly elections are to be held on February 14 while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are to follow two weeks later.

Chairman of the commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, is to address a press conference at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja today by 5pm.

The press conference will come up after he must have met with chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties.

He would also have met with the Resident Electoral Commissioners of all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Some observers believe that the commission is being blackmailed to shift the scheduled dates in order to provide ample time for those who have initiated court cases against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), to conclude their cases seeking to stop the ex-head of state from contesting the poll.

The cases include those questioning his qualification to the contest the presidential election, and those demanding Buhari’s prosecution on the ground that he allegedly lied under oath as well as forgery.

Details later….

PoliticsI’m Contesting Against Two-&-half People – Agbaje Mocks Tinubu,fashola,ambode by saint047(op): 10:03pm On Feb 01, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has berated chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for maligning him.

He spoke at the party’s rallies, which took place in Amuwo and Apapa local government areas.

“E be like say dis governorship election, na two-and-half people Jimi Agbaje dey contest against”, he stated in pidgin, referring to public attacks launched against him by APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babatunde Fashola and their candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Describing Tinubu as the puppeteer of the two others, Agbaje said it was strange to be described as too old by people in the same 50s age bracket as himself, especially as their party presented a 72-year old as its Presidential Candidate.

Agbaje said the government was lashing back at him for exposing the cases of impunity and weakness in the administration of Lagos State.

According to Agbaje: “To do well is our children passing their exams. To do well is for poor people to have houses they can afford. To do well is for people to have a suitable environment to practice their trades and run their businesses. Whether they worked hard or not is not the issue. They have worked hard but they have failed.

“This election, this one, God has given it to us. They cannot continue. To continue is when you have passed. Have they passed or failed?” to which the huge crowd yelled “Failed!”

Agbaje said the recent spate of attacks on his person were a reflection of desperation on the part of the APC.

Speaking to a crowd at the rally ground opposite FESTAC Gate, Lagos, Agbaje used the opportunity to reply Fashola’s tirade that the he was a tax evader, too old to be Governor and that he lacked experience in public office.

“This election is not about experience but qualification. ‘Jimi Agbaje no get experience for political office, but e qualify,’ the candidate added in pidgin.

The crowd cheered as Agbaje reminded them that his critics also lacked public service experience before they took over the reins of power in the state.

“They even talk about experience. They say I don’t have government experience. Tinubu was just a Senator for three months before becoming Governor. For me what is most important is qualification and I am eminently qualified to be the Lagos Governor,” he added.

According to him, the experience that Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode could lay claim to had been rubbished in the two public debates at which the two contestants met, one organised a fortnight ago by the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church and another last week by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“One by one, I go give them T.K.O.,” he joked.

Dismissing the tax evasion allegations levelled against him Wednesday by Fashola, Agbaje said: “Yesterday, dem say Jimi Agbaje na tax evader. But as God dey catch person, just recently, na im dem send me congratulations say I dey pay my tax well-well.”

He made reference to a letter of commendation written by the Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi.

Describing all the allegations as unwarranted and malicious, Agbaje said: “My prayer be say as dem dey throw mud for my body, e no go stick to me. E go backfire!”

Addressing the salient issues bedevilling the administrating of Lagos State, Agbaje acknowledged the hardship occasioned by several policies of the government.

He assured non-indigenes that discrimination against them, their interests and their businesses would dissipate as soon as he came to power.

Contesting the government’s claim that Lagos was overcrowded and that a policy to manage the influx of strangers would be established, Agbaje said: “Trying to deport strangers from other states is like trying to stop the flow of a river with your hand. Is it possible?”

Agbaje also promised that the notorious Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be rebranded, not scrapped, saying, the problem with the agency was that it had derailed from its statutory duty of traffic management to imposing draconian fines on motorists in order to generate funds for the government.

He also said that as part of his human-face policies, ‘okada’ (commercial motorcyclists) would be taken into consideration in formulating policies concerning their operations.
