'Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it.' Psalms 127:1 It's easy to remember where and when you got married, but sometimes what escapes you is why. God created Eve because He knew Adam was lonely and incomplete. So if the purpose of marriage is closeness, the enemy of marriage is distance. But problems arise when you expect your spouse to meet every need you've got. Only God can do that! A man asked his friend, 'How come you never got married?' He replied, 'Because I was looking for the ideal woman.' 'And you never found her?' his friend asked. 'Yes, of course, but just my luck--she was looking for the ideal man.' Hello! The Bible says, 'Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her' (Ephesians 5:25 NKJV). Can a marriage ever be perfect? No, but when two people make up their minds to give themselves fully to one another, they can come pretty close. In a survey of thousands of married couples, here are ten reasons why people said they were unhappy 1) They didn't think alike in many areas. 2) They had little insight into each other's feelings. 3) They said hurtful things to one other. 4) They felt unloved. 5) They felt taken for granted. 6) They lacked someone to confide in. 7) Each spouse felt he or she was giving more than the other. They rarely complimented each other. 9) They desired more affection. 10) They couldn't talk to each other. Now, since God performed the first marriage, talking to Him about yours would be a good place to start. |

After assessing the activities of Mallam el-Rufai as FCT Minister we conclude that, he is not a fit and proper person to hold public office in a democratic set up. Former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has been declared unfit to hold public office. He is also to forfeit a house he allegedly allocated to himself during the sale of Federal Government houses in Abuja. In an interim report, the Senate Joint Committees on FCT and Housing which probed the FCT Administration(FCTA) between 1999 and 2007, said “el-Rufai is not a fit and proper person to hold office in a democratic setting.” The committee’s chairman, Senator Abubakar Sodangi, submitted the report on tuesday. The report upbraided el-Rufai over the sale of Federal Government houses in FCT, and recommended that his administration should account for N32billion balance of the proceeds. Besides, el-Rufai is to account for funds collected by the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), Satellite Town Development Agency and Abuja Investments and Property Development Company Limited. The panel also recommended that all those who disobeyed court orders then should be prosecuted by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). A copy of the recommendations obtained by The Nation reads: “All officers who disobeyed or ordered the disobedience of court orders should be prosecuted by the Attorney-General of the Federation;” “Also on the sale of Federal Government houses, the total receipt is N96.7 billion and deductions were N34.2 billion and the balance was given as N62.19 billion. The bank statements showed only N29 billion, leaving a balance of only N32 billion unaccounted for despite all demands from him and his officers.” “After assessing the activities of Mallam el-Rufai in his duties as FCT Minister we came to the inevitable conclusion that: •he should account for all funds collected by the ad-hoc bodies he raised during his tenure, namely AGIS, Ad hoc Committee on sale of government houses in FCT, the Satellite Town Development Agency, and Abuja Investments and Property Development Company Limited, among others; •that the house he obtained for himself where he signed as lessor and lessee be revoked as a person cannot sell an item to himself; and •that Mallam el-Rufai is not a fit and proper person to hold public office in a democratic set up. http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/senate-bars-corruption-personified-mallam-el-rufai-from-holding-public-office/ |
The table below shows the compressive strength gained by concrete after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days with respect to the grade of concrete we use. Age Strength per cent 1 day 16% 3 days 40% 7 days 65% 14 days 90% 28 days 99% From above table, we see that, concrete gains 16 percent strength in one day, 40 percent in 3 days, 65% in 7 days, 90% in 14 days and 99% strength in 28 days. Thus, it is clear that concrete gains its strength rapidly in the initial days after casting, i.e. 90% in only 14 days. When, its strength have reached 99% in 28 days, still concrete continues to gain strength after that period, but that rate of gain in compressive strength is very less compared to that in 28 days. After 14 days of casting concrete, concrete gains only 9% in next 14 days. So, rate of gain of strength decreases. We have no clear idea upto when the concrete gains the strength, 1 year or 2 year, but it is assumed that concrete may gain its final strength after 1 year. So, since the concrete strength is 99% at 28 days, its almost close to its final strength, thus we rely upon the results of compressive strength test after 28 days and use this strength as the base for our design and evaluation. Though there are also some rapid method of testing concrete compressive strength which gives relation between rapid test methods and 28 day strength. This rapid test is done where time is limited for construction and strength of structural member must be known to carry out further construction work.

The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Victor Afam Ogene, has denied being part of any move to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan. In a statement by his media aide, Edward Dibiana, and made available to our correspondent in Asaba on Sunday, Ogene said his declaration followed overwhelming inquiries by his people and associates about his position in the current crisis rocking the National Assembly. “Besides being a stalwart of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, which has already endorsed President Jonathan’s re-election bid, Ogene is of the firm belief that such a move is not only unwarranted, but would also constitute an unnecessary distraction to the current efforts at national healing, amid mounting security challenges”, the statement said. Ogene, who represents Ogbaru in the federal house, however, denied having knowledge of any notice or move to remove the President from office. “I have neither seen any such notice of impeachment, nor would I be part of any such undertaking,” the statement added. The statement said Ogene’s decision to scale the gate of the National Assembly last Thursday was necessitated by the desire of the lawmakers to ensure their personal safety as the environment was besieged by strange elements, some of whom were hooded. Ogene said, “As you know, lawmakers got to the National Assembly gate at different times. By the time some of them, including Ogene, massed around the gate, they discovered that some security operatives in plain clothes had infiltrated their ranks and started releasing pepper spray on them, while calling for reinforcement. “In the midst of the confusion, some of them decided to go over the gate into the National Assembly complex instead of leaving themselves open to torture and humiliation. “Indeed, they had to choose between being bludgeoned and pepper sprayed to death or make good an escape. Remember that the former Senate President, the late Chuba Okadigbo, was killed in Kano after pepper spray was used on him. No one loves to be a dead hero.” http://www.punchng.com/politics/rep-dissociates-self-from-alleged-jonathans-impeachment-plot/ |

Dear Sir, It has been 20 years since you departed this sinful world, but the teachings you have inculcated into my hearts are still fresh. A lot of water has cross under the bridge since you depart. There were a lot of promises that you’ve made to us that are yet to be fulfilled. Nigeria has not won the world cup, in fact what we are struggling to achieve these days is AFCON qualifiers, which is deemed as a herculean task that one Ijaw man who is our president (yes Ijaw man) now even see it as an achievement to his office. I know you are wondering how an Ijaw man managed to become the President. That keeps on baffling me too till date. But the most baffling thing is how Igbos have so given up politically that they become stooges of this Ijaw man. They see him as the closest they can come to the Presidency; thereby they can insult even the grave of Ojukwu to protect him. A dollar is equivalent to 180naira these days. The problems of Nigerian economy are the same as you thought us in social studies in 1993. Lack of adequate power supply, bad roads, illiteracy, crude method of production and over reliance on crude oil. But we have added one more which is call insurgence. Nigerians can now execute a successful suicide bombing. I will keep you updated on the current happenings in the country. My regards to Fela in case you see him. Your pupil, Saint047 |
