A little advice too (I know it’s unsolicited):
Do not enforce your disbelief on others. It’s immature and gives an impression that one is socially insensitive.
You don’t believe in God. It’s your choice. But don’t get spiritually agitated when others express their belief. You can control it, okay? |

Does anyone plan to attend Drexel in the spring?
Is there anyone already enrolled at Drexel?
I would love to know the funding opportunities for students in the Faculty of Computing. I got into the MS Information Systems program.
Any form of related info would be highly appreciated. Thanks. |

Please help me with anything I can work on or to add or subtract from this proposal my gurus pls. And I’m ready for mock interview anyone who can help me with that. Thanks in advance. Just in any case you haven’t already done the interview, you may want to tell the VO about the curriculum, the courses that drew you to applying to that specific university or program, and specific research areas where you will gain from during the course. You may also streamline your uncle's occupation to real estate (telling them he is in charge of condo properties for commercial purposes in Port Harcourt for example). Then you may want to omit the working in the LGA part. Since you have in mind to establish an NGO, just go with the NGO plan after your studies. It sounds more convincing and gives the impression that you want to impact your local community. |

iPOD007: I am presently in an Hochschule (University of Applied Sciences) and to be fair, yes you can have presentations, reports, practical subjects as continuous assessments. The main thing is just to be fully prepared you are coming to study here. Nothing is easy and its very demanding. Thats the reason I posted earlier that you should have passion for whatever course you are coming for, before depression sets in.
I came in October and after 3 weeks of classes, i had an exam. 10 A4 papers filled with questions and expecting answers. (Nothing like answer only 3). The maximum time for exam is 90 minutes, so you can imagine.
In University of Applied Sciences, you have practical subjects - meaning not fully theoretical, but does not mean you will not do any theory, you have to prove a lot of formulas, nothing like objective questions. Many of the Professors will call it a TEST, but na die!
My advice is try and get in touch with anybody presently doing the course you are coming for and study like your life depends on it. Because your life really depends on it when you get here. Except you want to fail and re-do courses.
Above all, we are Nigerians, we no dull! So, I am sure any challenge anyone faces will be surpassed.
Good luck to everyone.
Cheers! Yeah. Practical stuff is the main attraction. Besides that, even the continuous assessments are overwhelming. I did over 15 assignments in this winter semester plus 6 exams lol. Compared to where I was before, I think I love the challenge here. There, the exam was the sole deciding factor (which is risky in my opinion). |

princejck: Hhhhmmm not accurate.
First of all Uni is more difficult than Hochschule ( not all Hochschule)
There re advantage and disadvantages to Uni and Hochschule
In Hochschule is very easy to fail out, apart from 3 trails on exams u also have Semester limit unlike Uni that u structure ur Programm urself and can study for 10 semester if u want
In Hochschule u have better contact with prof unlike Uni that prof re too busy for student
Hochschule is more practical oriented especially for engineering students unlike like Uni that is more of Research and theory
In Hochschule ur grade re from exams and practicals ( 80% exams and 20%), Uni 95% exams and 5% projects
Don’t underestimate German education, i will say to those new here or coming, one need to read and understand....cramming don’t work. I said “from my experience” Meaning personal encounter with a Hochschule and friends who attend Hochschules sharing their similar experiences. |

IMustWin: Hmmm! This grading system na die ooo. Plz do they have Continuous Assessment (CA)? How is it like? Generally, how is their exams like? Obj, German questions, Practicals or Theory? Plz enlighten the house! From my experience, if you want universities where they give Continuous assessments, and the exams are not a deciding factor, then you can consider the Hochschule (Universities of Applied Sciences). As the name suggests, the work is more practical and the Maths we’ve been lamenting on here is more applied to real world problems (but you still need to put in a great effort in it) |

Hi There.
It’s been a while since I last posted. You will get your processes concluded successfully. Don’t worry. It shall be well.
Please new applicants, be careful which courses you choose to study. It makes more sense to study what you have a prior bachelors experience than getting to Germany to quit on an entirely new course - in which you have no experience.
Choose carefully so that you do not waste your blocked account. That money is a whole lot. For those going for economics or mathematics, please make sure you’ve done adequate modules (maybe like 12 ) in your bachelors, so that you can cope with the masters modules.
A little bit of revision of your undergraduate modules would help you too - considering those who graduated a long time ago. Hope everyone prepares adequately. I wish you all speedy AD, SL, AM, AL etc
Viel Glück |

Most times, the lecture materials are complex, and the Nigerian students are overwhelmed. I don’t even think it’s shyness. Saysay01: Today makes it exactly one week since I left for Germany. I am here to share some things I wish I knew before I came.
1) Learn the Language: it will help you in your every day waka, most especially for those already working in Nigeria. I heard of someone working with an insurance company in Nigeria that got to Germany, googled insurance company around and was able to get a PROFESSIONAL job(Language was still a barrier but he was lucky)
2) Don’t bother bringing rice, oil, salt. All these things are very cheap here
3) please bring earpiece, extra charger and the likes (Electronic goods) seem to be expensive over here.
4)to be very honest, Most (not all) of the Jacket you will get in Nigeria cannot do anything against the cold. I would advise you save the money and come buy one or 2 over here.
5) If you have laptops, bring it.
6) I don’t know about the big cities but I am in a small town (Göttingen) and bicycle is the way of life here. People cycle EVERYWHERE. Learn how to ride a bicycle.
7) if you have time, learn driving and German. These things are really expensive to learn here. I’m talking over a thousand Euros.
In class, I also noticed that the Nigerian students (myself included) find it difficult to speak out while the whites are free with the lecturers. Please start practicing in the mirror and try to speak out in class.
Fun fact: The other day I used one Euro coin to buy something and the cashier gave me my change, I cried a little.
Overall, please be a good ambassador of Nigeria wherever you are and learn to highlight the positive part of Nigeria. God bless us, God bless Nigeria and God bless Germany. |

babyfaceafrica: Jesus!!..236,euros for a month lecture, how much person dey make self?...it seems Germans are not encouraging people to learn their language....no wonder English speaking countries have most applications On the average, people can afford that. But for an international student (who is apparently managing), that’s a lot of cash lol. Another way, as often advised on here, is to immerse yourself into Duolingo. |
Travel › Re: General German Student Visa Enquiries Part 7 by Sakasitay(m): 9:37pm On Sep 20, 2019 |
babyfaceafrica: you mean it is cheaper learning German in Nigeria than Germany who owns the language... wonderful!!!! It’s quite surprising innit . In my city, I had to pay 226 euros to learn for one month (that was the cheapest learning centre oo. The highest was 740 euros a month) By the second month, I advised myself. Unless you have the patience to learn it within your university (where one module - for eg A1 or B1 lasts for four months), then that’s another route. |

In addition to my last post, most people who said that they would learn German when they got to Germany have not had time to do so because -
1. Their course work is heavy-loaded. 2. They have to work to raise money. 3. Other stuff which would take their time.
While you are still in Nigeria, it’s the best chance to learn German, because there’s more time at your disposal, and it’s cheaper there. |

Sheila200: Hello nairalanders, is it a must to learn German here in Nigeria before applying for a study visa? Please learn up to at least A2 level. It would help you with everyday interactions within your community - such as buying and paying for stuff, filling forms at the Rathaus, going for an interview, speaking with your colleagues at work, making orders etc... Some times, it’s tough to blend in, especially if your Uni is in a small city. It would help you to get a job too (and to get attended to more quickly) |

I’m enrolled at ESB Reutlingen. If you have enrolled, then you have no problem. You may just have to start lectures a little too late. However, if it gets out of hand, you may apply for a tuition fees refund. bigeliot4real: I share similar experience, I got admitted into ESB Business School, University of Reutlingen for a 1year MBA program in International Management. I have even paid my fees as I had a deadline to pay in 4days or forfeit my enrollment.
I applied for Visa interview but didn't get a date and I am still waiting, I am supposed to resume 7th October.. I just sent an Email explaining my situation, hoping I could get a good reply on Monday. Fingers crossed... |

Dear hopefuls,
You will receive great news very soon regarding your applications.
Please, also endeavour to learn your German diligently, especially for those targeting to move to small cities. Communication barriers are real and you would not want to experience such. Language skills of up to B1 would be enough for you to settle down in your given community. Me still dey A2 lol. Had I known..... To be fair, when the classes start, you would not have adequate time to dedicate to learning the German Language.
So, now that you are back home, take it seriously. A general revision of the core modules in your undergraduate degree would help too, so that you are fresh and you do not end up spending your already limited time catching up.
You will all succeed. Keep hoping and praying, and above all, doing the right things. |
