BET has revealed that world-renowned actor and film producer Samuel L. Jackson will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th annual BET Awards. Also, actor and activist Jesse Williams will receive the evening’s Humanitarian Award while singer Akon will get the Global Good Award. The ceremony will hold at Microsoft Theater on Sunday June 26 and will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross. This category honours individuals championing Causes which positively impact change and heighten awareness in different parts of the world.

Born in America to Senegalese parents, Akon developed a love for Senegal and deep desire to help the nation’s youth. In 2007, he launched the Konfidence Foundation, dedicated to providing Senegalese youth with educational resources and access to health services. In 2014, Akon co-founded ‘Akon Lighting Africa’, which currently brings solar-powered electricity to the homes of over 600 million people in more than 11 countries in rural Africa.

He also helped launch the Solar Academy in Bamako, Mali, where engineers will be taught how to develop solar power, and has expanded his impact beyond Africa by teaming up with government officials in several Latin American countries, including Brazil, to bring electricity to needy homes.

FIFA has confirmed it will release new seedings for the 2018 World Cup qualifying tournament in the African zone.

The decision follows complaints from some teams.

Egypt for instance is not happy with the initial seedings, which puts its team in Pot 2, along with Nigeria. The team insist they should be in Pot 1, which is reserved for top seeds. FIFA has now sent a memo to the 20 teams in the final rounds of the qualifiers, notifying them about the release of a new ranking on June 21, which is three days before the draws for the World Cup qualifiers.

All the 20 African teams will be divided into five groups of five teams.

The countries that finish top after the qualifying series which begins in October 2016, will grab a ticket to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Nigerian singer and music producer, Babatunde Okungbowa aka OJB Jezreel has died

He was said to have died early this morning, June 14, in a Lagos hospital. This is coming just one month to his 50th birthday.

A family source claim that his kidney transplant failed completely since last week. Recall that the producer was down with kidney related disease, and consequently was flown to India for a transplant in 2013. On October 21, the singer successfully underwent the surgery at the Indian hospital.

After the successful surgery, the producer came out to thank all his well-wishers, especially his first wife Mabel Okungbowa, popularly called Mama J, who accompanied him on the trip and donated her kidney to him. However, in 2015, the veteran Nigerian musician and producer was reported to have suffered a setback in terms of recovery from his Kidney transplant; But he came forward to deny such reports.

“All Ife natives in the US are excited and energised for this epochal occasion,” one of the leaders of Ife Ooye North America group, Chief Olubunmi Awopileda says, according to Punch. “It will be an occasion to showcase our very rich culture with our king as the symbol.”

Rihanna and Jay Z, who runs her music label Roc Nation, are being sued for allegedly collecting money for a concert she never gave.

The Work singer, 28, was allegedly booked to perform a show in Nigeria by Chris Ubosi and his radio station Megalectrics back in May 2013, TMZ is reporting.

Ubosi claims he made a deal with two individuals who represented Rihanna, Roc Nation and Jay Z with the promise that she would be paid $425,000 for a 65-minute performance at the Eko Hotel in Lagos – but a rep for Rihanna’s label says the promoter was the victim of a scam.

The promoter coughed up $160,000 in three installments but then he claims her people asked to push back the concert to July.

According to TMZ, Ubosi agreed on the condition that Rihanna alert her fans of the date switch on social media.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Rihanna’s representative for comment.

In his lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Ubosi claims that Rihanna never did mention the change on social media and so he and Megalectrics ‘demanded the full and prompt return of their money,’ the lawsuit says.

Ubosi claims he never got the $160k advance back and so he’s taking Rihanna to court.

Her label Roc Nation and founder Jay Z, 46, who is wed to Beyonce, have been named as defendants.

The Barbadian beauty and her camp, on the other hand, are saying Ubosi was the victim of a scam and that they had nothing to do with this deal.

‘Rihanna, Roc Nation nor anyone associated personally or professionally with either party was in contact with this person,’ a spokesperson for Roc Nation told TMZ.

‘Unfortunately this person was scammed. Rihanna nor Roc Nation collected any money for this event.’

Rihanna is currently in the midst of her Anti World Tour to support her eighth studio album released on January 28 exclusively through Tidal.

In total, she will perform 74 shows across North America and Europe.

The outgone National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday formally handed over power to the Interim NEC of the party in Abuja.
The Interim NEC is headed by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
At the handing over at the party’s secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, said: “The party is one and is strong.
“On behalf of members of the former National Working Committee of the PDP, I am here to handover to the Caretaker Committee Chairman.
“We are ready to work with you.
“We are ready to cooperate with you.”
Secondus enjoined party leaders at all levels to go back to their localities and rebuild the party.
He said all politics is local.
He said it is not enough to remain in Abuja and claim to have a large following.
The Chairman of the BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin, said the body did not take over the running of the affairs of the party as earlier reported.
Jibrin said the BoT only held the assets and liabilities of the party in trust.
He appealed to party members of the party to cooperate with the Makarfi-led Interim Caretaker Committee to enable it deliver on its mandate.

Muhammad Ali remains The Greatest — although it’s uncertain how much longer the frail fighter’s reign will last.

The legendary three-time world heavyweight champion was fighting for survival Friday at an Arizona hospital where respiratory problems coupled with his Parkinson’s disease put Ali’s life in peril.

“It could be hours,” tweeted Los Angeles Times sportswriter Lance Pugmire. “Can confirm from very strong source that it’s ‘very, very grave’ for Muhammad Ali.”

The 74-year-old was hospitalized Thursday, the latest in a series of health issues that plagued the poetry-spouting pugilist in recent years.

Family members were warned that Ali’s health appeared worse than during other recent admissions for various problems.

“I can’t really say much more,” said Dr. Abraham Lieberman, Ali’s longtime Parkinson’s physician.

He was treated in early 2015 for a severe urinary tract infection initially misdiagnosed as pneumonia. And he was diagnosed with with the degenerative neurologic Parkinson’s in 1984.

The fighter, who changed his name from Cassius Clay when he switched his religion to Islam, transcended the boxing ring to become an international hero and role model.

The federal government yesterday announced the cancellation of the post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) into the nation’s institutions of higher learning.

Post UTME is usually conducted by universities for candidates after they have passed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.

Making the pronouncement yesterday in Abuja to declare open the 2016 combined policy meeting on admission to universities, polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria, the Minister of Education , Malam Adamu Adamu, said the federal government has confidence in the examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, adding that there is no need for other examinations to be conducted by universities after JAMB exams.

He said, “As far as I am concerned, the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing. The universities should not be holding another examination and if the universities have any complain against JAMB, let them bring it and then we address it.”

Adamu maintained that since JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests, there’s no need for tertiary institutions to conduct test again for students to gain admission.

The minister also asked the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board to stop extra charges on several categories of changes on admissions such as the change of course, change of school and others.

Meanwhile, delegates from different higher institutions across the country who converged on Abuja yesterday at the Combined Policy meeting, rounded off their debate over the cut off marks for Year 2016 Admissions into the tertiary institutions, with a cut-off point at 180.

However, the delegates maintained that the schools should not rule out screening of candidates ,that screening of is still vital to gaining entrance into the universities.

They argued that in the quest for knowledge, educational standard should not be lowered in the country.

Speaking with journalists, the JAMB Registrar, Prof ‘Dibu Ojerinde, said, “180 is given and no institution will go below 180 this year, And some universities can go above it, I know Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife will not go below 200 and University of Lagos will not go below 200 and also University of Ibadan. All these ones stand. But 180 is a bench mark for others.”



He said this year, the examination board have more than enough candidates with over 1.5 million candidate, saying, “So we will get enough candidates to take in all the schools if they are serious”



The JAMB registrar said re- distribution is already ongoing because it is embedded in the registration procedure.



He reiterated the minister of Education’s pronouncement saying, “for post UTME ,no more writing of post UTME anymore but institutions will screen their candidates.



However, touts protested at the venue of the 2016 Combined Policy meeting on Thursday.

They carried placards with various inscriptions, some of which called on the federal government, National Assembly and other major stakeholders to put an end to the conduct of the post UTME exams.

Some also called on the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the ICPC to probe university administrators on the utilisation of the post UTME.

Port Harcourt - Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo at the weekend officially ended his football career with a testimonial game played in Port Harcourt.

In the match, Team Nigeria defeated Team World 5-4 in a much friendly encounter, with Emmanuel Emenike scoring a hat-trick.

Top African football stars like Samuel Eto, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingston, Stephen Appiah, Dele Aiyenugba, Lomana Lualua, Mutiu Adepoju, Vincent Enyeama, and Samson Siasia among others were present.

Okocha thrilled the sizeable number of fans at the stadium with his dribbles and skills that brought back the memory of the former Bolton Captain, and left the spectators wishing for his comeback to the Super Eagles.

Eto too was a delight to watch as he showcased brilliance. He made a mess of Enyeama to score a beautiful goal that saw the goalkeeper chase him around, only for them to hug each other in laughter.

A fulfilled Yobo said after the game that he was grateful to have reached such a milestone in his football career – playing in six Africa Cup of Nations and three FIFA World Cups.

He has also played for Marseille, Everton, Fenerbahce and Norwich.

He was the first signing of David Moyes at Everton in 2003, little wonder the manager was physically present in Port Harcourt.

Yobo became one of the most consistent players in the Everton squad, and was one of only seven players in the entire league to play every minute of every game throughout the 2006–07 season; his teammate Joleon Lescott also being an ever-present throughout the season.

Leading South African-based entertainment company MultiChoice says it will no longer broadcast I am Cait, a reality TV show about the transgender journey of Caitlyn Jenner, previously known as Bruce Jenner, in order to abide by "regulatory environments" in Africa, and because of "concerns" raised by some of its customers.

The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) ordered that the show be pulled, effectively censoring it for African viewers, South Africa's Channel 24 entertainment site reports.

Condemning the decision as "shocking censorship", its columnist Thinus Ferreira wrote:

While I Am Cait contains no violence, nudity or sex on a pay-TV channel that viewers can block with a parental control function, the show about the transgender journey of Caitlyn Jenner contains ideas that Nigerian authorities don't want people to be exposed to.

From information obtained, these are the nine key milestones in President Buhari’s first year
Twelve months ago, President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He came to power following the decisive victory of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC over the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP and its candidate, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The victory ended the 16-year reign of the PDP.
President Buhari came to office amidst massive hope and expectation at home and abroad, that here at last was a leader who would stop the slide and lead Nigeria to progress, development and the realization of her destiny. The mood all over Nigeria, the continent and the world at the time he took over was euphoric.
In line with the promises made, Nigeria under Muhammadu Buhari has begun to show that it will be a radically different country than one the world had become used to. Here is a proof of that:
Promise of Transparency and Accountability
A promise kept by the President is of a government that not only preached but also practiced transparency and accountability. The President and the Vice President made public their assets as declared before they took office on May 29th.
For the first time in the annals of our Executive-Legislative relations, this country had all ministers nominated screened and passed without any casualty. What is important is that not a single incident was reported involving exchange of money in bribery of parliamentarians. The President’s first budget, the 2016 appropriations bill was passed, even though after some delays, without the usual bribery allegations that attended the passage of budgets. The Senate and the House under their current leadership must themselves be proud of this happening at this time.
While still on the budget, the President must take credit for the exposure of a particular kind of fraud, the padding of budget, itself a known and ongoing practice until the whistle was blown by diligent ministers and parliamentarians. For once, the country has a budget, the 2016 appropriations bill that is rid of added billions ending up in the pockets of officials. By putting these changes in place, the government has established a model for transparency in public expenditure.
Implementing the Treasury Single Account, TSA
The President has been trying to right the many wrongs things he inherited, especially in terms of securing government revenues which leaked or were out rightly diverted to private accounts.
President Buhari didn't invent the TSA. What he did is to bring political will to bear on its implementation.
At the last count, the President said he had saved the country money in excess of three trillion Naira which would otherwise have been wasted or shared out to officials at the end of the financial year.
Minimum Government
The President kept his promise to reduce superfluity in government administration by cutting down on the number of ministers, ministries and government departments. The delay in the coming of ministers was first to reduce the number of ministries, and then set a new set of ground rules to stop the theft of government resources through systemic leakages. Boards of directors will come only when the President is satisfied that agencies of government are brought in line with existing ministries structure and that a new foundation is laid, in all cases, to replace the rotten past that allowed a free-for-all when it came to dealing with public assets.
Fighting Insecurity/Stabilizing the State
The first priority of this government as repeatedly mentioned by the President, is security. "You must secure the country before you can manage it well”, is a classic statement the President has continued to repeat. Where we stand on this today is best captured by the country’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami in saying that “the capacity of Boko Haram to hold territory has totally been decimated. Our focus now is on dealing with the remnants of their forces and re-focusing on the unfortunate humanitarian challenge caused by their activities.” This was achieved following the change in the leadership of the armed forces, the movement of the command and control centre to Maiduguri and realization of how much can be achieved with greater international cooperation. In this respect, the coming together of Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Chad and Benin in the Muti-National Joint Task Force under a centralized command had been helpful in forging a common, regional response to the Boko Haran threat.
War against corruption/ending impunity
Nigeria is country of paradoxes, one in which the VIP steals an elephant and runs away with it but the poor man stealing a goat goes to jail for up to 30 years.
Things are changing with impunity in the country. For the first time, VIP suspects are being asked questions by the investigating agencies and are being charged to court. Many who would have snubbed the bailiff and go scot-free are now standing before undergoing trials. Would anyone have thought that a Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, pretenders to thrones, the children of “natural rulers” including “toy” Sultans, Kings, Emirs and Chiefs will be brought to trial and kept in prisons? Ending impunity is one of key milestones of this administration.
In one year of his administration, a miracle has happened, which is that there has been the total absence of multi-billion naira corruption scandals that had characterized the previous administrations.
Global Diplomacy
In one year, the President has successfully reset the relationship between this country and her immediate neighbors and with our lost friends, both far and near. The West, Far East and Middle-East countries as well as our neighbors who walked away from this country on account of the arrogance of our past leaders, corruption and the abuse of human rights have all come back to us.
Over the past one year in which the President travelled to many countries, he has succeeded in convincing the world that Nigeria is now under a responsible management with a government that is inviting of prospective investors. As a result of his travels, Nigeria’s image has improved and the country is occupying a preeminent place in the comity of nations.
President Buhari has indeed been a revelation to the world. In addition to improving the standing of the country, his personal integrity has given him the best ever international attention by any past President of this country.
Fuel Import Liberalisation
The fuel subsidy issue is a well-known cause of trouble in this country. Every government in the past that tried to remove it got tested in its political will and dropped it like a hot metal. There is nothing in this country that is as politically unpopular.
Yet, even those who vocally supported it knew that it wasn't working for the ordinary citizens. The secret service surveyed the price regime of N86 per liter and reported to government five months ago that the price prevailed only in Lagos and Abuja with the rest of the country paying higher. Petrol subsidies served as a scam to line the pockets of officials and cronies in business.
Acting in the best national interest, the President took the very brave action of liberalizing the import of PMS products by first removing subsidy from the budget and then opening the door for marketers to bring the products to sell at a profit, saving the country trillions of naira in fraudulent subsidy payments.
Due mainly to the trust they reposed in him, Nigerians have accepted this change in the belief that the president means for them.
Major Infrasture Products/Diversification
The President’s campaign for the diversification of the economy, away from over-dependence on oil is already setting the tone for the transformation of the economy into an agaric and industrial one.
The President has equally fared well in his efforts to attract investment into Nigeria following his trips to some of those countries. Discussions are ongoing with a number of them with rich foreign reserves that have indicated a willingness to pour foreign capital to develop the economy and create jobs here. From the sometimes zero capital allocation of the past, his budget this year has 30% of its content devoted to capital projects. After many years of delay, there will be a serious attempt to improve roads and rail transport as well as power projects. His administration is determined to improve the country's infrastructure landscape in a short period of time.
Social welfare program
President Buhari’s administration is the first in Nigeria’s history to take a major step towards the institution of a social welfare scheme as enunciated by the APC.
One million of country’s poorest of the poor will get a monthly supplement of N5,000.00. Another one million will get start-up loans from the Bank of Industry.
Five hundred thousand graduates will get teaching jobs and 375,000 others without degrees will receive training to acquire skills. Under this year’s budget, there is money for scholarship for medical, science and technology students in tertiary institutions and a meal-a-day for five million children in primary school. For the first time, the ordinary citizen can claim that he/she has a budget of his/her own.
While many still believe that it is too early to assess the overall performance of the administration, the sentiment that prevails across the country is that Nigeria will improve a lot under his leadership; that he has a good vision and he is committed to Nigeria and Nigerian people.
In one year in office, the President has fused his own ideas with APC’s program which is strong on social welfare. His government has brought hope and respect to Nigeria. He has made a strong start on security, war against corruption, foreign policy although the sticking issue remains the limping economy he inherited which is hamstrung by corruption and the past failure to diversity.
The President is tirelessly working for Nigeria and will continue to do so with hard work, diligence and honestly for the period he is in office.

Veteran Nollywood Star, Patience Ozokwor aka Mama, Susu, famously known for her ‘Wicked Mother-In-Law’ roles in movies is now a born again christian, who now goes about, preaching in various churches and crusades.

Starttells caught up with her at a crusade organised by St. Marks Anglican Church in Eziobodo Village of Imo State, where she shared her Salvation Experience.

According to her, she normally organises a personal retreat for herself in the first few days of the new year, when it was time to have her 2016 retreat, she heard the voice of the Holy Spirit telling her to fast for 21 days, she complained that she have so many projects to handle, Endorsements and movies to shoot within that period, and the Lord extended it to a 30 days fast due to her complaints.

During this fasting period, The Lord revealed to her, how she will be a voice for him all over the world, how people’s attention will be channeled from her image on Nollywood to The Gospel.

She said one of the things God warned her on, was her dressing and appearance. She said that Putting on Makeup, wearing Jewelry and putting on Trouser as a Lady is wrong, she said that she has been preaching to colleagues in Nollywood, but God told her to put off her Dreads, to stop wearing Jewelries and Trousers, that she could have gone to Hell, if she died December 31, 2015 despite the preaching she’s been doing, just because of her appearance.

She asked the Holy Spirit to prove to her, give strong reasons, why that was a Sin, and Spirit of God replied that she should browse about it, that Testimonies of personal revelations God gave to people are all over the internet, and all of them are saying virtually the same thing, that she should find those information to help her life.

She made mention of her Social Class, how the creme de la creame of the society, will attend her funeral and how such event won’t be a reflection of the position of her soul.

She subsequently got to the internet and read testimonies of God’s encounter with people, she read about an Igbo Woman God encountered, and a Woman called Margaret from Edo State, who could have gone to Hell for hating her Husband. She said that people in Church is making God cry, due to their dressing, their loose life and conduct. After that encounter, she gave herself to spirit filled pastors for follow-up.

We went further to ask about her immediate family reactions to her new found faith, to which she answered that her daughter was upset with her, telling her that spirituality is a thing of the heart, and it doesn’t need to affect her dress code. Patience Ozokwor replied her daughter that she should be left alone with her Jesus.

The brother also thought that she was mad, on hearing the news, and had to call her to confirm that she is mentally sound.She also said that she is happy her Son who plays football in Europe is now born again.

Among other things she pointed was her Anglican Church and SU History, How Christian Association of Nigeria gave her a bible and many other things.

She also talked about a Muslim leader, who said they have Nigeria in their hands, Fulani Herdsmen, and their deadly strategies. She cited example with Turkey (Istanbul) a Christian turned Muslim country.

IT DIDN’T have the commercial success of Hypnotize or Mo Money Mo Problems, but of all the tracks on The Notorious B.I.G.’s legendary 1997 Life After Death album, I Got A Story To Tell has always been the song that’s generated the most curiosity among fans of the rap star’s music.

The 4min 42sec disc one closer tells the story of an encounter the rapper, who was also known as Biggie Smalls, had with an unnamed player from the New York Knicks.

As Biggie tells it, he was having sex with the basketball star’s girl — in the player’s bed — while he was playing a game against the Utah Jazz. But things got interesting when the player returned home and was about to catch the duo in the act.

In true gangster style, Biggie tied the girl up to make it seem like a burglary, put a scarf around his face and when the basketball player came into the room holding a drink he pulled out his gun.

“Flash the heat on em, he stood emotionless, dropped the glass screamin, ‘Don’t blast here’s the stash, a hundred cash just don’t shoot my ass, please!” the song goes.

Biggie filled a Prada bag with the cash and walked out.

Whether the story was true — and if it was, who was the Knicks player in question — has dogged basketball and music fans alike since the album was released almost 20 years ago.

The co-hosts of ESPN’s Highly Questionable — Dan Le Batard and Bomani Jones — have led the way, regularly inviting guests with a connection to the story on their show in an attempt to solve the mystery.

In September 2014, former Knicks guard John Starks told the duo the story was true and that he knew who it was about. But he refused to tell them.

A month later, Jadakiss, who rapped alongside Biggie on several tracks early in his career, was also asked to shed some light on the matter by Le Batard and Jones.

“Big wouldn’t tell me,” Jadakiss said. “I was doing my own investigation. He was saying 6’5”. Trying to figure out what Knick was 6’5”. He threw you off, though, because he also said ‘rained out.’ A basketball game can’t get rained out. So, Big was trying to mess with you a little bit on there, too.

“Out of my candidates, it would have to be (Anthony) Mason, Larry Johnson, maybe Derek Harper,” he added. “Could have been any of that team. Those were the crazy Knicks back then.”

Finally, we have the answer. Rapper Fat Joe was today’s guest on Highly Questionable. The New York native, who was friends with Biggie, said the Knick in the story was none other than Mason — the bruising forward who died of heart failure last year.

Mason was one of the chief enforcers on the Pat Riley-era Knicks, who regularly clashed with Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls.

“I could tell you but I don’t want to be disrespectful. But it was about Anthony Mason, rest in peace,” said Fat Joe, who added it was important to realise the specifics of the encounter may have been embellished.

“You also got to know this is entertainment so we (rappers) stretch the truth, we change things up.”

It looks like the 2016 election is entering the avant-garde.
A mural depicting presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin kissing, along with the stenciled phrase "make everything great again," now adorns the back of a Lithuanian barbeque joint, Keule Ruke.
The image has gone viral, but the artist -- Mindaugas Bonanu -- told CNN Sunday that he was mostly unfazed by the international attention his mural received.
"In my life nothing changed, except that now I have full pocket of food coupons to eat in Keule Ruke," Bonanu said.
The restaurant's owner, Dominykas Ceckauskas, requested a piece of art featuring Trump for his wall.

Although neither Trump nor Putin are strangers to parody, this Lithuanian graffiti is notable for joining the two together.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bonanu, who describes himself as apolitical, said after Ceckauskas made the Trump-specific street art request, this "love scene" came naturally to him.
During a time of increased tensions between the United States and Russia, much has been made of Trump and Putin's warm words for each other. The Republican billionaire said last fall that he thinks he would "get along very well" with Putin. Last December, Putin called Trump "a bright and talented person without any doubt ... an outstanding and talented personality.".
The piece will only remain up until next Friday, Bonanu said.

After “Wives on Strike” garnered 51 million Naira in 17 days of its cinematic debut in Nigeria, with views by over 50 000 people across cinema houses in different states of the federation, it continued to make stupendous waves in the cinemas, breaking and surpassing all other records in the Nigerian box office history.

Reports emerged from top cinemas like Filmhouse Cinemas, Surulere, Silverbird Cinema, Ikeja City Mall, Genesis Deluxe Cinema, Lekki, and Silverbird Cinema, Abuja,that Wives on Strikekept selling, even with the presence of latest Hollywood releases like “The Barber’s Shop”, “The Huntsman” and “Jungle Book”. Having made such huge achievement in Nigeria, the movie is set to hit Ghana in all its grandeur.

The movie which stars Omoni Oboli, Uche Jombo-Rodriguez, Ufuoma Mcdermoth, Kehinde Bankole, Julius Agwu, Keneth Okonkwo sold 15 million in three days in its first weekend at the cinema, making it the first ever Nollywood movie to do so in the history of box-office records in Nigeria.

Wives on Strike is produced and directed by leading Nollywood figure, Omoni Oboli who in time past had garnered commendations for her two earlier movies, Being Mrs Elliot and The First Lady as executive producer. The two movies made best box office movies of 2014 and 2015 respectively with excellent showing at the cinemas.

However, Wives on Strike has shattered all those earlier success by Omoni’s previous movies,not only that, the movie is shattering records of other movies and setting a new one.

The movie is a hilarious comedy about a group of market women who decided to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father.

Bukola Elemide, Nigerian singer and international musical act popularly known as Asa, has attributed her success in the music industry to luck.

“I feel lucky, I think luck is the word; a lot of it is surprise and not knowing what to expect,” she told Channels Tv in an interview.

“I’m just doing what I believe in and the reception is beyond what I expected. So, I feel lucky that everything happened the way it happened.”

Describing celebrity life as an illusion, the Bamidele crooner said she likes her privacy.

“Artistes are human even though they have special gifts. All that buzz is an illusion. It just lasts for two hours or however long you spend on stage,” she said.

“Everyone goes home and it’s lonely and quiet, but I think it’s normal. We are human beings too. After the lights go off, everyone goes home. I understand what it is and I don’t fool myself about it.”

The 34-year old artiste said the price for success is having people make decisions, which sometimes might be wrong, on your behalf.

“The price is having people who don’t really know where you are going, where you want to go, or where you are coming from make decisions,” she said.

“The decisions can be very bad for you, and that is the price that I have paid to get my music out, and to be here today.

“And it’s normal because everybody will go through it , wrong contract deals, you have to wait for years and I think that is the price.”

But why is it so important to the photo app's users?

Instagram has changed its icon and it seems the entire universe has gone crazy about the tiny design tweak.

The company said on its blog: “Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form.”

“We've been inspired by all the ways the community has grown and changed, and we wanted to create something that reflects how vibrant and diverse storytelling on Instagram has become,” a spokesman told the media.

However, its users are a little unhappy it has changed its branding, with many taking to Twitter to express their discontent, saying the company ripped of Apple's iOS Photos icon or that it was unprofessional.

"The new instagram logo truly is gross. and i'm sure it's totally coincidence it scans as a bolder version of the iOS photos app icon," said @TonyRomm.

New Instagram icon looks like something I created in Word Art when I was 10" complained @Eryn_NotErin.

One of the icon’s designers stepped in to defend it, however, saying he thinks it is just a shock to Instagram fans and they will get used to it.

"It's kind of like the Uber redesign — people freaked out, and now it's totally fine,” designer and photographer Cole Rise told Mashable. “Change can be hard, and people will have to adjust to it, but I think people will love the new stuff once they get used to it on their home screens."

It is not just the icon that has changed though. Instagram has also updated the look of the app too.

“We’ve made improvements to how the Instagram app looks on the inside as well. The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app,” the company said in its blog post.

Although Instagram users may have got used to the old branding, even that was not the original logo for the company.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom tried to buy a logo Rise had created for another job back in 2010, but instead, Rise suggested he create a brand new one for the photo sharing app.

"I made this brand-new imaginary camera that was Bell & Howell-inspired, with elements of the old icon so it was an easier transition,"

Rise explained he is more excited about this latest work though.

"I'm super psyched on the new one," Rise commented. "I love the minimalism. Regardless of the colors behind it, the white shape — the actual bones of the new symbol itself — is beautiful, and I think that can persist over time."

Trump plays very strongly in the symbolic field, operating on a series of different sectors’ frustrations. In an increasingly unequal society he introduces himself as a savior of the losers. It has become commonplace to think that Donald Trump cannot become president of the United States. The vulgarity of his style, the obvious ignorance of some of his ideas, the lies scattered without retraction and the unrealistic proposals lead us to this conclusion. His megalomania is seen as madness.

But Trump's discourse is coherent. It is based on saying things that a large part of American society thinks, and in proposing simple solutions to complex problems. This dual technique allows him to gain followers among those who feel economically and ideologically marginalized and to offer a decompression valve for social frustrations. Although it is impossible to implement his proposals, they generate a social outburst against political elites that materializes in votes. His campaign is well calculated.
Impact of globalization

Trump is the product of a number of trends. The first is the chasm between citizens and politics in America. Many sectors of society perceive that the so-called political class, with few exceptions, is increasingly distant from their interests. Representatives in Congress and the Senate are seen as people with very high salaries linked to and supported by economic elites who work to serve their own particular goals.

These objectives include tax or environmental laws that benefit them, complex regulations that allow them to evade taxes, deregulated employment rules to facilitate dismissal and hiring of labour with minimal or no social protection. Dissatisfaction also arises from the accurate perception that governments and representatives have plunged the United States over the past four decades into so-called ‘globalization’, promoting the relocation of production and total openness to trade.

This has led to a crisis of the productive system. Chicago factories where wages are higher and unions stronger are closed down, and reinstalled in China or Mexico, where they pay less and the rights of workers are repressed or nonexistent. At the same time, the US market has been flooded with products manufactured in China and other Southern countries that push prices down. The result has been rising unemployment and increasingly menial, dead-end jobs, temporary contracts, underpaid and with a lack of social protection. Between 1979 and 2013 the average salary of white men without higher education fell by 21% (up 3% for women in the same sector). Yesterday´s industrial worker is today unemployed or a worker in precarious and lowpaid jobs.

An analysis of the influential think-tank Chatham House (London), indicates that Trump and the Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders have at the same time aroused different reactions among people who feel "that they have been abandoned and excluded from the system." Xenia Wickett argues, “America is unlikely to choose, and Republicans wouldn’t permit, a Scandinavian-style social safety net, and the effects of technology and globalization are likely to increase the disparities between winners and losers over time.”

Dissatisfaction with the relocation of production has also produced a split among both industrialists and agricultural business´ sectors. Those who have had the ability to shut down production in the US and reopen it in another country have made large profits. But many companies small or medium size have not been able to find a space in global competition. This has led to deep resentment against ‘politicians’ in Washington, Congressmen and officials, who have promoted a model of global integration contrary to national interests, such as the Transpacific Economic Cooperation Agreement. A recent report in the New York Times entitled "How the Republicans lost voters in favor of Donald Trump" has a long list of complaints of entrepreneurs against the Republican Party, accusing them of becoming an accomplice of the elite.
The conservative rise

The second trend is ideological. Not all who are embittered against the elites are marginalized workers or employers. Conservatism has strong religious, racial and class roots in the United States. In the last five decades the tension between liberal (which in Europe is called progressive) and conservative has intensified. While the former have become more moderate, embracing neoliberalism, the second have been, paradoxically, radicalized.

Within conservatism is a huge variety of non-governmental organizations, foundations, universities, research centers, opinion, individuals with different agendas and projects that target others. Some business sectors and individuals support these groups, including those who oppose all regulation on the right to bear arms, the right to abortion, in favor of banning the teaching of evolutionary theories in the educational system, and against the obligation to educate their children in public or private school.

Even more serious is the proliferation of armed groups against the entry of immigrants on the border with Mexico, and right-wing groups of Nazi ideology in favor of a return to the purity of the white race. These have proposed total closure to all immigration and mass expulsion. These seemingly extravagant voices have increased their influence since the 80s thanks to their access to the media, creating their own radio and television, broadcasting and internet use of social networks.

These groups and many other organizations that make seemingly extravagant claims present themselves as marginalized and outcasts. In an article in The New Yorker about the social base of Donald Trump, the leader of a group in favor of the purity of the white race explains their struggle to ensure that their children in the future are not a "marginalized minority" in a multicultural country "where Latinos and blacks are the majority”. The fact that over the last decade the US President has been black and a democrat, and accused of being "socialist" with “radical Islamic ideas” has only confirmed their perceptions. Trump, of course, took an active part in the campaign questioning Obama’s American credentials.
Revolt within the party

The Tea Party has been instrumental in creating the social base for Trump. This movement, born during the first presidency of Barak Obama, was critical in matching a strongly individualistic ideology to an extremely conservative anti-state position. The Tea Party is linked to many of those far-right movements in US society. Although it has lost momentum in recent years, it continues to be a powerful force among right-wing grass-roots. Trump, the businessman-turned-politician has managed to articulate their demands in a presidential candidacy and increasingly gained their pledges to vote. "Trump has never asked me for a dime and being self-funded he's the only one that can blow up the Republican Party establishment," said Ralph King, a Trump delegate and member of the Cleveland Tea Party, to the Reuters agency: "If the primaries result in a contested convention, I'm in his corner all the way."

Trump and his team know all about the resentment against political parties and have instrumentalized the Republican Party as a platform for two battles. The first, to stand as an entrepreneur, a manager, an outsider within his own party. To show his heterodoxy he ventured to attack George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq, and the neocon ideologues for their attempts to change regimes in the Middle East.

Once he had achieved the first objective, he took on his second battle: defeating Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic Party candidate. Although now she has an advantage of 10 points over Trump, if the elections were held today the Democrat would have the problem of being seen as the quintessence of the elite which rejects Trump´s social base.

The third trend is inequality. The United States is at the top of the list of the most unequal societies in the world. That is, a minority (the so-called 1%) accumulates more and more wealth, resources, markets, global capacity and control technologies (artificial intelligence, robotics) that are rapidly replacing labor in many sectors. Some studies indicate that by mid-century half of human labor in the US will be replaced by machines (and the trend is global). At the same time, 1% is becoming an idle sector that consumes luxury goods without working. A study by the Boston Consulting Group indicates that machines, which now account for 10 percent of all manufacturing tasks, are likely to perform about 25 percent of them by 2025.

In parallel, the middle class is weakened and at the base of the social pyramid there is poverty and lack of access to deteriorating public services (education, health, transport). A series of recent studies, referred to in The New York Review of Books under the title, 'A bankrupt country', show the serious state which US infrastructure such as highways, railways, ports, public water and other public services are now in. But Republicans, who have a majority in Congress, have consistently boycotted the attempts by President Barak Obama to access more funds to modernize these systems.
Symbology and sexism

Trump plays very strongly in the symbolic field, operating on a series of different sectors’ frustrations. In an increasingly unequal society he introduces himself as a savior of the losers. His attacks seem indiscriminate, but actually are designed to build an image of himself as a "businessman," a "man who has made himself" the son of white immigrants, who is forced to become political and "speak out", broaching issues that politicians, accomplices, refuse to mention.

Within this symbolism Trump exaggerates his gestures, words and iconography. He has no hesitation in insulting other candidates for their physical appearance (especially women), reminding them that in the past they wooed him for his money (something that did happen, the Clinton family included). He uses vulgar and popular language, show his closeness to "people" and his distance from the so-called elite of Washington and all liberal political correctness. At this point, his messages about women are particularly significant.

Since the 1960s, American women have gradually gained rights and access to economic, labor and political space. Today they have more say over their lives and their families. There is even a sector of professional women who claim not to wish to marry and form families. However, several generations of men believe that women have stolen their personal power in the family, in social life, in the political realm and in the world of labor. But it is politically incorrect to suggest any such thing.

By openly criticizing professional women (symbolically focusing his attention on a journalist of the right-wing Fox News whom he has derided by associating her with menstruation). Trump represents the male sector that has lost power, and a narrow-minded machismo. His image is carefully constructed. A traditional powerful man. So, he winks at men who resent the progress of women, and proposes a traditional role for women workers using his own family as iconography.
Targeting the immigrants

Shortly after launching his candidacy in June 2015, Trump introduced the idea of building a wall between Mexico and the United States (and forcing Mexico to pay for it). His argument in favor was that there are criminals to be kept out, smugglers, rapists and "people with many problems." The figures show that crime is lower among first-generation Latino immigrants than non-Latinos born in the United States, but this has not prevented him from taking aim at Mexico. He has deliberately used cases of white people who have had things stolen or been attacked by illegal immigrants to whip up voter emotion.

Taking advantage of the rise of the Islamic State and the series of attacks in Europe and in San Bernardino (California), the candidate made a second proposal on immigration: that the entry of Muslims to the United States should be temporarily closed down, effectively rejecting out of hand a broad spectrum of the population, from President Obama to Republican spokesmen.

America was built on different migration flows and the near elimination of the local indigenous population. The confrontation between immigrant communities has existed at various times since its foundation. Those who consider themselves founders of the state (mainly descendants of the British) think of themselves as “more American” than the descendants of other cultures. Slavery, the Civil War and the struggles for civil rights in the decade of 1950-1960, on the other hand left deep divides and unresolved problems.

By attacking the Latino community, Trump assumes he will lose many of their votes (usually Latinos vote for the Democratic Party). But he hopes to win the support of those who believe that immigrants steal their jobs and the racists who fear that the Latin and Muslim (and black) presence will switch "American identity" leaving them "a minority in their own country". Trump descends from a German family who went to America in the late nineteenth century. These attacks on Latinos try to make a fundamental distinction between the immigrant founders of the nation and the (new) upstarts. The first have created the nation through their efforts; the latter have only come to rape and steal.

Even more than incarnating within himself the successful-founder-of-the-nation-descendent immigrant, Trump has had the capacity to evolve into a popular millionaire that like King Midas transforms into gold everything he touches. As Elisabeth Drew perceptively concludes, “Trump is the first brand to run for president”.
Politics as spectacle

Trump's candidacy is also the result of mixing show-business, politics and sports (in the sense of turning every situation into a competition). This cultural trend started in the US and is now globally widespread. Politics as spectacle has many expressions: angry shouting matches between so-called experts, real specialists replaced by commentators who can talk about everything. Reducing the time for analysis, media pressure to synthesize political explanations on twitter have led to a devaluation of policy, and a rise of ideas that simplify complex problems. The real world is full of dilemmas; Donald Trump´s worldview is linear. The United States will be a leader if you put China in its place, if immigration is limited, if the country is managed like a private company with a strong hand, and if white men return to their proper role.

Although Trump has great potential, it will not be easy to get to the White House. His victory in Indiana has shown that many of the senators, representatives and leaders of Republicans (such as former Presidents George Bush and George W Bush) do not support him and are even opposed to his nomination as a candidate. Clinton, meanwhile, is challenged because of her big links with the elite.

But even if Trump does not reach the White House, his rise is proof of the multiple and deep fractures suffered throughout the United States. Paradoxically, neither he nor Clinton seem able to solve those.

During his roughly 45-minute speech at the historically black college Saturday afternoon, Obama said that America “is a better place today” than it was when he graduated in 1983. The President declared that both the world and race relations in America are better, too, saying that his reelection in 2012 was “just one indicator of how attitudes had changed.”

There were no black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Very few black judges,” Obama said. “Shoot, as Larry Wilmore pointed out last week, a lot of folks didn’t even think blacks had the tools to be a quarterback. Today, former [Chicago] Bull Michael Jordan isn’t just the greatest basketball player of all time — he owns the team.”

“When I was graduating, the main black hero on TV was Mr. T. Rap and hip hop were counterculture, underground. Now, Shonda Rhimes owns Thursday night, and Beyoncé runs the world,” the president added to laughter from the graduates. “We’re no longer only entertainers, we’re producers, studio executives. No longer small business owners — we’re CEOs, we’re mayors, representatives, Presidents of the United States.”

The family of Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo and wife Ifeoma delivered a baby boy on Saturday, May 6th 2016. They had their baby at The University of Maryland, St. Joseph Medical Center, USA after almost 9 years of marriage.

In a chat with Diamond Celebrities, the actor said, “God is a faithful God. He said we shall be fruitful and multiply, that there shall be none barren in our midst and He just fulfilled His words. To Him be all the glory in Jesus name”.

Music fans' drink of choice is Lemonade.

Beyoncé's sixth solo effort made its debut atop the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 653,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music. That total includes album-equivalent streaming numbers (115.2 million streams) and track sales (907,500 downloads), in addition to pure albums sold (485,000 copies).

The album's most-streamed songs were led by Sorry (12.8 million), which caused a stir on social media with lyrics about cheating. Other popular tracks included Hold Up (11.3 million); 6 Inch, featuring The Weeknd (10.8 million); and Don't Hurt Yourself, with Jack White (10.1 million). Meanwhile, controversial lead single Formation shot up to third place on the digital songs chart, selling 174,000 downloads and rocketing to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Lemonade is Beyoncé's sixth No. 1 on the album chart, arriving three years after her previous self-titled album debuted with 617,000 copies sold in December 2013. It comes on the heels of a whirlwind week for the pop queen, who premiered the emotional surprise album as an hour-long visual on HBO before releasing it on Tidal. The 12-song project was exclusive to the streaming service for 24 hours, after which it was made available digitally on iTunes and Amazon. A physical version of the album will be released Friday.

Last week, Beyoncé launched her career-spanning Formation world tour in Miami. The nearly sold-out trek's next stop is Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C.

Elsewhere on the chart, Prince continued to rule with posthumous sales, taking five slots of the top 10. Greatest-hits album The Very Best of Prince dropped to No. 2 with 391,000 equivalent units sold (216,000 pure album sales). The late icon's other top sellers were the Purple Rain soundtrack (150,000), The Hits/The B-Sides (106,000), Ultimate (40,000) and 1999 (36,000).

His songs continued to dominate the charts as well. Purple Rain was the most downloaded track of the week with 282,000 — jumping to No. 4 on the Hot 100 as a result. Prince had six more of the top 10 best sellers, followed by When Doves Cry (198,000), Little Red Corvette (161,000), Let's Go Crazy (156,000), 1999 (147,000), Kiss (144,000) and Raspberry Beret (127,000).

Olamide has confirmed Lil Kesh's exit from the label YBNL.

This follows online reports over the weekend that Lil Kesh and Olamide's YBNL had parted ways.

Pulse reached out to a rep at YBNL yesterday who denied the reports, stating that it is just a rumor.
“Everything you have read is false. They are all rumors. Lil Kesh is signed to YBNL on a contract, and it has not ended,” he said.

The label boss Olamide has however confirmed that Lil Kesh's contract expired weeks ago as it was a 2 year contract. 'Baddo' in an Instagram post shared the information today (April 26,2016).

Trump demolished his rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island -- a stunning show of force by a candidate seen as a populist political savior by millions despite being loathed by the party establishment.

"I consider myself the presumptive nominee," the real estate mogul told a crowd at Trump Tower in New York, despite still being short of the 1,237 delegates required to win the nomination outright.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's over."

On the Democratic side, Clinton won four contests including the night's big prize, the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

But her clean sweep was denied by Sanders, who won Rhode Island.

"What a great night," Clinton told a thrilled crowd of supporters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The 68-year-old former secretary of state telegraphed her eagerness to shift toward the November general election and a showdown with Republicans.

"Let's go forward, let's win the nomination, and in July let's return as a unified party," she said.

Trump's night was nothing short of huge, as he cleared 50 percent support in all five states, with nearly all precincts reporting. In Rhode Island, he earned 64 percent, trouncing Kasich (24 percent) and Cruz (10 percent).

Most importantly, the bombastic 69-year-old extended his lead in the all-important race for delegates who will officially choose the Republican nominee at the party's convention in July.

"For weeks the stop Trump, dump Trump movement has tried to puncture" his rise, James Morone, a political science professor at Brown University, told AFP.

"Today's results overwhelmingly tell you it's not working."

Trump's triumph comes in the heated aftermath of the revelation that Cruz and Kasich, desperate to prevent the frontrunner from securing the nomination, were teaming up to block him in future races.

Kasich agreed to forego campaigning in Indiana, a winner-take-all state that votes on May 3 and is the next focus in the GOP race. Cruz will return the favor later in New Mexico and Oregon.

But Trump slammed the alliance as "pathetic" and ineffective.

"This joke of a deal is falling apart, not being honored and almost dead," Trump said on Twitter. "Very dumb!"

Clinton's strong Tuesday showing heaps pressure on the well-funded Sanders, a self-declared democratic socialist senator from Vermont, even as he has vowed to fight on until the California primary on June 7.

In a statement, Sanders told supporters that "we are in this race until the last vote is cast.

"That is why this campaign is going to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia with as many delegates as possible to fight for a progressive party platform."

Trump was riding high following the latest contests, declaring that his rivals had "zero" chance of winning the 1,237 delegates necessary to earn the nomination ahead of the convention.

He now stands at 988 delegates, according to CNN's running estimate. Cruz was a distant second with 568, while Kasich increased his numbers only slightly, to 152.

But the convoluted system of delegate allocation in some states means Trump is still a considerable way from reaching 1,237.

Out of Pennsylvania's 71 delegates, only 17 are pledged to the winner Trump. The remaining 54 are essentially wildcards, heading unpledged to the convention where they are free to vote as they see fit.

Cruz, speaking Tuesday in Indiana, sounded eager to move on to what he called "more favorable terrain."

But according to a recent CBS poll, Trump leads in The Hoosier State with 40 percent of likely Republican voters, with Cruz five points back.

"If Trump takes Indiana, it's very, very difficult to see how they can stop him," Morone said.

If he falls short of outright victory, Trump runs the risk that his delegates, most of whom are bound to vote for him in only the first round, will desert him in subsequent rounds.

Cruz and Kasich have openly said they are counting on a contested convention, where they have a shot at wooing enough delegates to snatch the nomination.

Trump recently faced criticism when a top aide revealed the candidate was preparing to reshape his image, but Trump insisted he was not undergoing a makeover.

"If you have a football team and you are winning and then you get to the Super Bowl, you don't change your quarterback," Trump said. "So I'm not changing."

He also offered a preview of what a Trump-Clinton matchup would look like, saying she would play the "woman's card" during the general election.

"She has nothing else going. Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don't think she would get five percent of the vote."

But at her victory party in Philadelphia, Clinton told supporters that "if fighting for women's health care and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman's card, then deal me in."
