The recent, heated scuffle in Abuja between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and an Army Lieutenant, A.M. Yerima, over a land dispute was not an isolated incident, but rather the latest manifestation of a recurring challenge to civilian authority in Nigeria.

A video obtained by our correspondent captured the heated exchange, in which Wike accused the officer of unlawfully taking possession of a parcel of land. The minister challenged the officer for laying claim to the property simply because it was linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff.

The military officer maintained that he was acting based on orders received from his command, thereby pushing back efforts by the representative of the Federal Government to take possession of the disputed land.

In this article, TVC revisited past events documenting the troubling pattern of confrontations between military, police, and other security personnel (the “men in uniform”) and representatives of both the Federal Government and State Government officials, including Governors.

Police Defy Governor Sanwo-Olu in Lagos

One of such events is that of a Chief Superintendent of Police, Abimbola Oyewole, on Tuesday 4th of January 2022. openly defied the order of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to vacate the Magodo Phase 2 Estate area of the state.

The CSP told the governor that he and his armed colleagues were at the estate on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, as well as the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Sanwo-Olu had led members of his cabinet to visit the residents protesting the continuous presence of armed policemen in the estate.

For days, policemen besieged the estate in the company of suspected land grabbers and members of a family who had planned to demolish property in the choice estate to execute a Supreme Court judgment. The development has caused commotion at the estate as landlords and tenants panic over their fate.

Police are alleged to have disrupted Rivers State Polls.

According to The Guardian, on the 5th of October 2024, the Local Government election processes were going on smoothly until some men dressed in Nigerian Police uniforms arrived at the Elekahia Primary School in Port Harcourt City local government area and started shooting teargas and seizing election materials.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) officers and voters scampered for safety following the sad development.

It was gathered that about 21 Hilux patrol vans with heavily armed operatives drove into the venue from Elekahia Road, and as soon as they arrived, they fired teargas, which caused pandemonium in the area.

Some of the armed security men were masked; they directed the RSIEC officials to remove their vests and hand them over.

According to eyewitnesses, the security operatives also chased RSIEC officers who had arrived earlier and set up their stands to begin accreditation in Ward 19, which has ten units.

Some of the operatives were seen shouting to the RSIEC officials scampering for safety: “Come here, remove that vest. What are you doing here? Common move!”

SamGift0817:
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has condemned the Federal Government for failing to pay the Super Eagles their outstanding allowances ahead of the 2026 World Cup playoff matches.

In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Obi described the situation as “truly unfortunate,” lamenting that Nigerian players who continue to represent the country with pride and commitment are being neglected, while public funds are recklessly spent on “lavish political patronage.”

“We always seem to find money to waste on needless lavish spending and political patronage, yet we cannot pay those who patriotically raise our flag, bring us pride, and serve with dedication. That is what is found in a now disgraced country,” Obi wrote.

The former Anambra State governor said the government’s failure to meet its obligations to the national team sends a dangerous message to Nigerian youths — that hard work and patriotism are not valued in the country.

“When those who serve their country are not treated with dignity, it sends the wrong message to our youth, that hard work and service are not rewarded. Those who represent Nigeria deserve to be paid promptly and treated with respect. We must do better,” he added.

Obi’s comments come amid reports that Super Eagles players and officials boycotted training in Morocco over unpaid bonuses, just days before Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

SamGift0817:
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed not to succumb to intimidation or blackmail after an encounter with soldiers who reportedly blocked his access to a disputed piece of land in Abuja.

A viral video showed Wike confronting a soldier who insisted he had been ordered not to let the Minister enter the property. The exchange drew public attention, raising questions about the use of military personnel in a civil matter.

Speaking to journalists after the incident, Wike disclosed that the soldiers acted on the instructions of a former Chief of Naval Staff. He expressed shock that a retired senior officer would resort to such actions rather than following due process.

“The officer said he was sent by the former Chief of Naval Staff. I don’t understand how someone who once held that position cannot approach my office to explain the situation,” Wike said.

He condemned what he described as an attempt to use security forces to obstruct lawful government activities, insisting that he would not be intimidated.

“Is it because he is a military man that he feels he can use soldiers to intimidate Nigerians? I am not one of those who will bow to blackmail or threats,” the Minister stated.

Wike added that any claim of ownership must be backed by proper documentation and legal procedures, not force. “Where are the documents?” he asked. “You can’t stop government officials from doing their work and then bring in soldiers to block them. That’s unacceptable.”

CelebritiesSowore Calls For Ned's Prosecution Over Regina Allegations Of Child Abuse,Others by SamGift0817(op): 12:37pm On Nov 10, 2025
Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has called for Senator Ned Nwoko to be held accountable over allegations of child abuse, sexual misconduct, and abuse of power.

Sowore’s demand follows a viral social media post by Nwoko’s wife, Regina Daniels, in which she claimed she was only 17 years old when she married the Delta North senator. The revelation has sparked widespread public outrage and calls for investigation into the lawmaker’s conduct.

In a statement shared on his official social media handles, Sowore noted that under UK law, where Nwoko is a registered legal practitioner, any sexual relationship involving a minor constitutes statutory rape.

“This case goes beyond politics; it points to serious criminal conduct and gross abuse of power,” Sowore stated.

He further cited Daniels’ allegations that the senator introduced her to hard drugs while she was underage and allegedly forced himself upon her multiple times — acts he described as “grave offences that warrant urgent investigation and prosecution.”

Sowore also urged the Law Society of England and Wales and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to initiate disciplinary proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) to determine Nwoko’s fitness to continue practising law in the United Kingdom.

“It is unacceptable for Ned Nwoko to continue practising law in the UK while facing these damning allegations,” Sowore said.

The activist cautioned against any attempt by the senator to use his political connections or financial influence to obstruct justice, warning that “impunity has an expiry date.”

“We will not allow Ned Nwoko to continue using the now disgraced Nigeria Police Force, his political influence, or illicit wealth to suppress victims, pervert justice, and trample on human rights in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world,” he declared.

Sowore’s remarks have intensified public scrutiny and renewed calls for Nigerian and UK authorities to open investigations into the allegations. The controversy has also reignited debate over child protection laws, power dynamics in relationships, and accountability among public officials.

PoliticsI Married Regina Daniels At 19, Not 17 - Sen. Ned Alleges Blackmail Against Him by SamGift0817(op): 12:29pm On Nov 10, 2025
Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents the Delta North Senatorial District, has accused a group he described as a “pull-down-Ned syndicate” of exploiting his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels’ alleged health challenges, to smear his reputation.

In a statement released by his Communication and Technical Action Team and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Nwoko said the campaign was a coordinated effort by long-standing detractors to criminalise him before the public and the international community.

“Those exploiting a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to using drugs are doing so to settle old scores. They have no case against me, and they will eventually face justice,” the lawmaker said.

He dismissed claims that he had forcefully acquired land in his hometown, describing them as “false and unfortunate.” According to him, he was legally allocated a parcel of land after making a genuine offer of payment for the establishment of the University of Sports, which he said has since become a beneficial institution in his community.

“Anyone who seeks progress in our society is often attacked and torn down by their own people. That is the sad difference between us and other ethnic groups,” he added.

Addressing online allegations about Regina Daniels’ health, Nwoko alleged that his wife had a documented history of substance use prior to their marriage — claims he said were verifiable through medical records.

“Regina openly admitted to using drugs and being on bipolar medication. Her former schoolmates have also spoken publicly about her struggles. Yet, some people are manipulating her condition to damage my reputation,” he stated.

Nwoko insisted that if his wife had any genuine grievances, she would have voiced them, adding that “all the current stories being circulated are fabricated and amount to criminal defamation.”

On the controversy surrounding the timeline of his marriage to Daniels, the senator clarified that the actress was born on October 10, 2000, and got married to him at 19, not 17 as widely speculated.

“The public witnessed her family giving her out in marriage. Her mother personally brought her to me. Our customs and traditions do not frown upon polygamy. What I did was to marry her honourably, give her a name, and treat her with dignity,” he said...

Gunmen reportedly stormed the voting centre in the Owerre Ezukala ward one and shot the councillor while he was attempting to cast his vote.

Speaking shortly after being declared the winner of the poll, Soludo paid tribute to the councillor, identifying him as a member of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

“I also note with sadness the sad news that some hoodlums went to a community. We understand they came from across the border, caused mayhem and even killed one of our supporters, a councillor who had just voted and was heading home,” he stated.

“They accosted him and shot him dead. That’s a councillor and an APGA chieftain. It’s very unfortunate. May his soul rest in peace.”

Soludo, however, commended security agencies for thwarting plans to disrupt the governorship election.
