On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, residents of Marsabit, Kenya, shocked the world by giving politicians a taste of their own medicine.

The enraged local who attended a scheduled meeting with their leaders, served muddy drinking water as refreshment.

The dignitaries who were comfortably seated on plastic chairs, had their bottled muddy water carefully placed on the ground.

The residents were angered that their leaders had failed to come up with a solution to their perennial water problem.



The move was made to protest a decision by county officials to prioritize formation of a municipality board instead of giving them access to clean water.

Senator Godana Hargura, Speaker Matthew Loltome, Karare South MCA Asunta Galgotelli among officials from the executive had gone to Karare Ward to listen to views on the formation of a municipal board. .

But a section of the women took their local leaders aback when they blasted their way to the high table with bottles full of muddied water and served them.

They then demanded that the county stop discussion on municipal boards and instead give them water.

Four drug traffickers, including three Nigerians, who were allegedly carrying 6.492kg of cocaine concealed in the rings stitched on curtains, were arrested on Saturday in India.

Police had got a tip-off that the suspects were carrying narcotics in their bags, but on intercepting them, they only found curtains in the bags. .

“Our team grew suspicious on finding so many curtains,” said Manoj Kumar Sharma, additional commissioner of police, west region.



The team then started to check the curtains. On opening the rings, they found thin tubes containing white powder fitted around it. .

Each of the 78 curtains had 8 rings carrying cocaine. The police seized the substance and arrested the four accused – Niras Okhovo, 35, Simon Agobata, 32, Michael Hope, 29, and Brazilian national: Karle Iris, 41 – who were on their way to meet a 5th accused.

The woman, who was arrested in connection with a drugs case, was released from Byculla jail recently. Police have also retrieved the machine which they used to roll the tubes.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said the ruling All Progressives Congress would have performed better but for corruption, adding that graft was preventing Nigerians from enjoying full dividends of democracy.

Osinbajo said if re-elected, the APC led-government would invest $500m in job creation.
He spoke on Monday during a visit to the Oloja of Epe, Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun, as part of electioneering campaign.



The vice-president urged Nigerians not to vote the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

He said, “At the next level government, we want to establish Entrepreneur Bank and Peoples Money Bank to complement the Bank of Industry. Already, we are in partnership with the Africa Development Bank to invest $500m in creating jobs.

30-year-old Nigerian scriptwriter, Osang Abang, is dead.
The University of Calabar graduate, who worked with M-Net, passed away in a bus accident, on Thursday night, and was buried on Monday.

Abang was co-writing content for Tinsel, a popular Nigerian soap opera, before his death. He was also the head writer of the series, BattleGround. Other projects he worked on includes ‘Forbidden’, ‘Hush’, ‘Hustle’, ‘Jemeji’, ‘E.V.E’, and ‘Ajoche’.

Nigerian Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, lost in his first attempt to win a Grammy award after being nominated in the best world music album category.



Kuti lost to South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir who won their third Grammy award, making them the most successful African group in the award’s history.

Femi Kuti, his older brother, has been nominated for the Grammys four times, but failed to win in 2003, 2010, 2012 and in 2014.

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State has been engulfed by fire

This is coming less than one week to the 2019 presidential election.



Plateau State INEC Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Osaretin Imahiyereobo, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust in a statement on Sunday.

It was gathered that the incident was caused by a drunken security man.

Imahiyereobo described the incident as a setback for the preparations for the general elections in the Local Government Area.

The statement read: “The INEC office is completely burnt with all its content i.e Ballot Boxes, Generators serviced and filled with fuel, cubicles, newly printed electronic and manual Voters Register, uncollected PVCs, materials for the preparations of RAC and other materials yet to be identified.

“The management team led by the Administrative Secretary, Gbadamasi Rasheed are on their way to assess the situation.”

Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency, Ben Murray-Bruce, has condemned those he called beneficiaries of a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, who now insult him.

Ahead of the Saturday mega rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, a coalition of 53 political parties has endorsed the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the decision was based on the president’s achievements in the last three years.

The coalition, under the banner of Coalition of Political Parties in Lagos State (COPPILS), declared its support for Buhari at an event in Surulere.

The event was witnessed by the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), APC’s National Legal Adviser, Babatunde Ogala, the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and thelawmaker representing Lagos East in the Senate, Gbenga Ashafa, among others.

Director of Publicity of the coalition, Shakirudeen Olofin, said the 53 parties had directed their members to work with the APC to deliver Lagos to Buhari, noting that they took the decision to support him because of the infrastructure projects his administration has executed in the south west

The Federal Government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities will hold a reconciliatory meeting on Thursday in an effort to resolve issues that led to the ongoing strike called by ASUU.

ASUU president, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, said at the end of the last meeting held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment that there was an agreement to adjourn until Thursday after the leadership of the ASUU must have met other members to discuss the new government position of its demands.

“We have set of information for our members. Until we tell our members. We are making progress and the progress we are making is for everybody’s interest and stakeholders will benefit at the end of the day. We will be meeting on Thursday (today). We have trashed all grey areas so the progress we have made must first be related to our members.”

A security guard, Longbab Bouguen, has been arrested over the rape of a prophetess of a Celestial Church of Christ around Agbogbo area of Akure, Ondo state.

Speaking on the arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph, said the victim, who was returning home around 8:30 pm, was dragged into the bush by Bouguen.

Joseph said: “One Prophetess reported that a security guard, Longbab Bouguen, suddenly dragged her to a secluded area and forcefully tore her panties to have sexual intercourse with her through the anus.

The suspect threatened the victim by brandishing a cutlass and knife and also dispossessed her of the sum of N700.”

Confessing to the crime, 39-year-old Bouguen attributed the crime to the handiwork of devil, saying he could not explain what came over him before raping the woman.

He said, though he did not penetrate into the woman, he ejaculated before releasing her to go after collecting the sum of N700.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday conducted a referendum to decide whether to suspend its three-month strike or not.

The national leaders of the union on Monday directed its zonal coordinators to meet and conduct the referendum.

Over 200 members of the University of Ibadan chapter, who attended the congress allegedly voted for the continuation of the strike while a little above 50 voted for the suspension of the strike.

The vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the February 16 poll, Mr Peter Obi, has said Nigeria will collapse if Buhari is reelected.

Obi stated this during a roadshow by the PDP in Awka, Anambra State, on Tuesday to seek support for its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar ahead of the poll.

Addressing reporters, Obi lamented the growing unemployment in the country.

Atiku’s visa troubles stem from when he served as Nigeria’s vice president, from 1999 to 2007.

He figured prominently in the corruption trial of former U.S. Representative, William Jefferson, who was accused of trying to bribe Atiku in an effort to expand a technology business in Nigeria. .

Jefferson was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 13 years in prison. Separately U.S. Senate investigators in 2010 alleged that one of Atiku’s four wives helped him transfer more than $40 million in “suspect funds” into the U.S from offshore shell companies.

Atiku’s visit to Washington last month was put together with the help of two U.S. lobbying firms. Holland & Knight was hired by Atiku personally in December and has been paid $80,000 so far.

The firm’s lobbyists worked to set up a meeting with top U.S. official for African affairs, Assistant Secretary Tibor Nagy, arguing it would show that the United States wanted to encourage free and fair elections in a country where graft is endemic.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was a worse dictator than General Sani Abacha.

Oshiomhole made this assertion in reaction to a recent statement by Obasanjo in which the Ex-President accused President Muhammadu Buhari of returning Nigeria to an era of impunity.

Obasanjo had in his statement said that President Buhari has returned the nation to the era when state institutions were used to fight the perceived enemies of the government.

Obasanjo alleged that the President was putting into practice, the lessons he allegedly learned from late General Sani Abacha.

Wreckage from a plane carrying Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala has been discovered in the English Channel.

The Piper Malibu N264DB was lost on 21 January on its way from Nantes, France to Cardiff, with the Argentine striker and pilot David Ibbotson on board.

David Mearns, who directed a privately-funded search operation on behalf of the Sala family, said the wreckage was located off Guernsey on Sunday morning.

Man kills, buries lover after defrauding her of N530,000 A 47-year-old man, Kazeem Adebayo, is cooling his feet in the custody of the Ogun State Police Command over the alleged murder of his lover, Abosede Adesanya.

Adesanya’s corpse was reportedly found by the police in a shallow grave in the lover’s house.
City Round gathered that the deceased was declared missing on January 25, a day after she left her house in the Ijebu-Igbo area of the state.

Adebayo was said to have called the deceased on the phone in the presence of her mother, telling her that he had got a plot of land she wanted to buy.

It was learnt that the 30-year-old woman left home for Adebayo’s house with a sum of N530,000 and promised her mother to come back on the same day

A 22-year-old herder identified as Ibrahim Umaru, has revealed how he escaped from prison in Delta State.

According to a report by Newtelegraph, Umaru escaped from prison in 2018 and fled to Zamfara State, where he joined a gang of bandits who specialised in cattle rustling and razing down communities. .

After embarking on several operations, Umaru was again rearrested after he led members of his gang to rob a filling station in Asaba, Delta State and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from him.

A police source said: “Umaru was first arrested in 2014 when policemen on patrol accosted him after he took some cows for grazing. The policemen searched and found a gun on him. .

He was taken to court, where he was charged for illegal possession of firearm. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but later escaped and fled to his home town and later joined a cattle rustling syndicate. .

This gang has killed several people in Zamfara State. The gang was headed by Buhari Daji, who is now late.

Umaru took part in several robberies, cattle rustling and kidnapping activities in Zamfara State before returning to Asaba Delta State with an AK-47 rifle which he started using to terrorise residents and business owners in Asaba Delta State.” .

After his arrest, Umaru said: “I escaped on one of the days I was taken out of the prison to cut grasses outside prison premises. I wasn’t wearing my prison vest, so I seized the opportunity to escape.”

Addressing  a press  conference  in  Abuja, Atiku accused  the Muhammadu Buhari government of “executive  lawlessness”.

He said, “I must warn the APC government to desist from taking actions that may push us further down the slippery slope towards a major constitutional crisis that could derail the electoral process.

“General Muhammadu Buhari must remember that he is a beneficiary of a free and fair election. It is therefore a matter of honour for him to allow a political environment and process that gives everyone confidence.

“I commend all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria who have expressed outrage  at  the unlawful removal of Onnoghen, an action which constitutes a flagrant breach of our constitution and a frontal assault on our democracy. It scarcely requires emphasis that this behaviour is alien to democratic rules and more in line with that of a military dictator.”
