A policy that would remove the ownership of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, cylinders from consumers, is currently being drafted, the Federal Government has revealed.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, represented at a stakeholders’ forum by Brenda Ataga, on Tuesday, said the policy would require that the ownership of the cylinders rests strictly with the dealers and distributors.

He added that this was part of strategy to deepen the penetration of LPG, also known as cooking gas and address issues of safety. .

She revealed that the FG had reached an agreement with two original cylinder manufacturers to deliver 600,000 cylinders to LPG distributors on credit, with a pre-payment period of 18 months.

The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, has blamed the deplorable state of tertiary health institutions in the country on the inability of state governors to fund basic primary and secondary health facilities under their respective care.

Adewole, who stated this at the Senate plenary on Tuesday, said state governments had “literally abandoned” health care.

The minister stated, “The states have literally abandoned healthcare such that everything is handled by the Federal Government. We cannot succeed with this.

“What we have done through your support, and I must commend you for approving the healthcare basic fund, it is a game changer. We have spent almost a year developing the guidelines and over the last weeks, we have started a roll-out and as at the last count, 22 states have registered for the basic healthcare provision fund.

The House of Representatives has passed a bill which abolished the existing dichotomy between Polytechnic Higher National Diploma and the Bachelor of Science degree awarded by the Nigerian universities.

The bill was passed during Tuesday’s plenary.

The legislation, which was sponsored by Ali Isa and Edward Pwajok from Gombe and Plateau States respectively, was passed for second reading since April 2017.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kano Zonal Office on Monday May 20, 2019 arraigned one Hauwa Mohammed Sabo before Honourable Justice Obiora Atuegwu Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, sitting in Kano on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence.

The defendant allegedly obtained the sum of N2,150,000 (Two Million, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) only from the plaintiff, Badura Kabir Idris on the guise that he would invest the amount in his gold mining business. .

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confirmed the arrest of an accountant with Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, for allegedly diverting N180m school fees belonging to the school.



The EFCC’s acting Head, Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, in a text message to one of our correspondents said, “I can confirm that a Covenant University accountant has been with us for some days now over an alleged case of stealing reported by the Chancellor of the school.” The diversion of the money was said to have taken years before the university discovered his alleged fraud.

The Chancellor of the university and Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, reportedly described the accountant’s lifestyle as “riotous”.

The Peoples Democratic Party has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to, within 14 days, account for the alleged humongous corruption and treasury looting under his watch before the May 29 end of first term.

The opposition party put the amount involved at over N14trn.

A 22-year-old man, identified simply as Segun, is battling for his life at a general hospital in Ogun State after he drank insecticide, sniper.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim had scored 167 in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.

Segun, who was unhappy with his result, went on Twitter and expressed frustration at his repeated failure to secure admission into a tertiary institution despite several attempts.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Nse Ikpe-Etim, has disclosed that she will no longer be unable to have a child because she has removed her womb.

She made the disclosure at her recent event tagged “Conversation With Nse” in Lagos. The actress revealed that she was diagnosed with Adenomyosis, about three years ago.

Adenomyosis is a genealogical medical condition whereby the inner lining of the uterus breaks through the muscle wall of the uterus.

According to her: “I was told I couldn’t have kids. And so, I had to remove my womb to make me have a life again and to stop going through what I was going through. .



And I’m literarily telling women and men, it really doesn’t matter if you can’t bear children. What really matters is what you would do for the world, for the universe.

When I was first told by the doctor that I would have to remove my womb to live a normal life, tears dropped and then my husband squeezed my hand.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the results of 1,792,719 candidates out of the 1,886,508 who sat for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in April.

Also, JAMB delisted 116 centres over “registration-related misconduct”.

The results of 34,120 candidates were withheld including those of 15,145 candidates being clarified as ‘identical twins and siblings.’ About 59,667 candidates failed to turn up for the exam.

Announcing the results in Abuja on Saturday, JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, said Franklin Ekele, 15, from Imo State, emerged as the highest performer with 347 marks, followed by Abia State’s Emmanuel Chidiebube, 16, who scored 346, and Osun State’s Isaac Olamilekan, with 345 score.

However, Oloyede said Ekele and Chidiebube might not gain admission to their school of choice, University of Lagos, because they were underage.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has seized some houses belonging to Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The houses, which are located at 15a, 15b and 17 MacDonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, are said to belong to Saraki.

However, the EFCC was said to be unsure of which of the properties that actually belong to the Senate President and decided to place inscriptions and stickers on all of them.

While 15a and 15b were declared by Saraki in his asset declaration form, it is believed that some other houses on the street were bought by the Senate President from the Presidential Implementation Committee for the Sales of Government Property through shell companies.

His relative, who did not want to be named, told our correspondent that the houses were seized on Friday.



He said, “The EFCC had been making inquiries into the finances and assets of Saraki for quite some time. They came to inscribe ‘EFCC, Under Investigation’ in red on the walls and the fences. The irony is that even houses that don’t belong to Saraki were marked.

“From what we were told, they are keeping him under strict surveillance ahead of May 29, 2019 when they may invite him.”

After a month-long investigation by the Pennsylvania state police, the Pennsylvania State University police officers’ use of force while serving a mental health warrant that resulted in the death of a Nigerian student, Osaze Osagie, on March 20, 2019, has been justified.

A report released on Wednesday, by Centre County District Attorney, Bernie Cantorna, said the officers were in a “life-and-death situation” when they first used a taser and then shot Osagie who was approaching them with a 5.16-inch steak knife. .

Osagie died of multiple gunshot wounds after the confrontation at his apartment on Old Boalsburg Road. No charges will be filed against any of the officers involved in serving the warrant.

“Given the distance between Mr. Osagie and the officers and the speed at which he was moving, he had ample opportunity to seriously injure and potentially kill both officers,” Cantora said in a press conference. .



“The time that Officer No. 1 shot, there was no time for any alternative means to stop a potentially deadly attack by Mr. Osagie. At the time of the incident, both officers acted consistently with their training and were justified in the use of force.”

The full report detailed the course of events that led to the Osagie’s death after his father reported him missing on March 19. Police were told he had a history of schizophrenia and probably was not taking his medication. Three kidnappers, Uche Iberi, Destiny Kemka, Chile Worlu, have been arrested for kidnapping and raping a senior lecturer in one of the tertiary institutions in Rivers State, TheNation reports

The victim has now given a graphic details of how she was raped in the forest of Emohua LGA and how she miraculously escaped from the kidnappers’ den.

Amid tears on Friday, she said: “I was in my house in Port Harcourt on April 30, 2019, when I saw two guys first, pointing a gun at me. One of them cocked the gun and he asked after my husband but I said he had not closed from work.

They asked of my ATM card and PIN. I gave him. He asked if I had money in the house I said no but I had gold, which could be sold for N50, 000 but they rejected it.

That day, they paid me salary. I told them to let me give them the salary that was transferred to me. One of them then gave me an account number, which I forwarded my salary, N59, 000, to.

That night, we spent about two hours in the bush, just moving around and I was barefooted because they did not allow me to wear slippers, thereby giving me injuries.



I slept on bare ground in the open forest. The next morning, one of them raped me. Later in the afternoon, I stood there and I cried. When it rained heavily, we were all under the rain. I was completely wet.

The elderly one said teachers’ money (ransom) was N5 million, but if my husband could raise N3 million, they would let me go. They then called my husband, but he was calm and he said he had no money again since they had collected the over N100, 000 he had with the ATM card.

That was when I knew that they had collected the money. I told God that after all my suffering, the kidnappers would not take the requested N3 million from my husband.

They said my husband promised to call them before 12 noon on that day to drop the ransom. So, they were happy. One went to sleep, while the other took his phone and went away.

I waited for a while, the one that went to make call was not coming. I saw it as an opportunity to escape. That was how I ran away.”

A 27-year-old suspected ruthlessly rapist and blackmailer has been apprehended in #Yenagoa by a team of #Bayelsa State Volunteer.

The suspect, Knakumo Aniso, was nabbed, two weeks after breaking into the house of a 4-month-pregnant lady identified as Gesiere, and raping her at gunpoint.



Another lady, Peace, also accused Aniso of raping her on Monday, May 6, 2019, under the Tombia bridge. The suspect has since been handed over to the police.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr Amaju Pinnick, and four other officers of the federation have been charged by the Federal Government with an alleged misappropriation of $8,400 said to have been paid by FIFA to the NFF.

It was alleged that the money was paid by FIFA to the NFF as Nigeria’s appearance fees in the group state of the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

The five defendants were also accused of “moving dishonestly and intentionally the sum of about N4bn” belonging to the NFF without the consent of the NFF.

The Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property led by Mr Okoi Obono-Obla, which instituted the case, also accused the defendants of failure and neglect to declare their assets.

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has vowed to reverse last-minute appointments and installation of traditional rulers made by the outgoing governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

The party said this in a statement issued on Monday by the Publicity Secretary of its Caretaker Committee, Tunde Oladunjoye.

Amosun had recently approved the appointment of 18 new Permanent Secretaries for the state.

The governor had also inaugurated governing councils for Tai Solarin University of Education and Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology.

Amosun, within the last few weeks, had installed some traditional rulers in some parts of the state.
