EducationASUU Strike Might Be Called Off Next Year by Samgreguc(op): 4:52pm On Oct 04, 2013
Considering the fact that ASUU has been on strike since July and has remain adamant to shifting their ground, despite the series of meeting held and the new proposal made to them by the government. It looks like they are ready to see the strike through this year end, so as to be sure whether the government will fully include the sum they agreed upon in our next budget or not.
Meanwhile, in the course of the meetings between the Fg and ASUU, the Fg has it claims that the agreement wasn't in this year's budget and promised to fully include them in the next budget.
.
Just my own thought, what do you see too?

1.N800 Billion ever year for four years=N3.2 Trillion and not N3 Trillion.
.
2. If they(ASUU) shuold be given all that then what should be done to the POLYs, COEs and others?
.
3. All these is as a result of the incompetency of the first set of people asigned to oversaw the issue back then in 2009.. Because, they should have calculated how much was our annual budget before approving N800 Billion per annum.

Currently, their concern is their earned allowance. They agreed to start with the N100b govt gave to dem for funding but insisted that their allowance must be paid completely.

timpaker: Many people may not know this but the strike has nothing to do with lecturers allowances or welfare as wildly speculated, the issue is adequate funding of the universities. All ASUU want is adequate funding and nothing more.

berem: There's nothing outrageous about the money. The education sector needs proper funding. If our leaders can send their kids to foreign schools that are well funded, why should they not equally fund our own universities to meet up to international standard? The money required is small compared to the excessive looting going on in the presidency. angry

EducationRe: No Work, No Pay As FG Stops Varsity Lecturers’ Salary by Samgreguc(m): 1:51pm On Oct 02, 2013
Hearme: if you don't pay them, they will also not work or they will begin work on assumption of having done the work you didn't pay them for. E.g if a school was a month to exams before the strike/ no work, no pay policy. Whenever they resume, they will begin work on assumption that they have taught, done exams and are ready for a new session. How about that? Academics are not those in whom such policies work, the government will only keep compounding the problem.

Those who owe should pay and not threaten people. We all can see the mago mago way PHCN was handed over without settling its workers and pensioners, is that how to solve problems.
am sorry but your explanations makes no sense and can't ever happen cos if it happen then the students would be given a forged marks/grading.

ojingbe: The Federal Government has invoked the ‘no work, no pay’ labour rule against striking university lecturers as their industrial action enters the 93rd day with no end in sight.
Good one! You don't get paid without working. Lets all(student & lecturers) feel it!
Some ASUU branch chairmen told Daily Sun that text messages were sent to vice chancellors to apply the ‘no work, no pay’ labour rules to academic staff on strike and that the decision had affected the payment of salary of non-academic staff in the university system.
Why? Please they should be paid!
According to one of the branch chairmen, he and his exco confronted their university management over the salary delay and the he showed them the text message asking them not to pay salary to ASUU members.
He stressed that the ‘no work, no pay’ labour rule had never worked, pointing out that ASUU has a counter-measure, which was ‘no pay, no work,’ and that the union was not on strike because of salary increment.
who do these people(ASUU) think they are?- the "all in all" of universities? Time shall tell!
Also, the ASUU chairman, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr. Biodun Badmus, told Daily Sun that the vice chancellor got text messages not to pay salaries and revealed that the university had not received August salary from government.
His words: “Any vice chancellor that has paid August salary did so using the university’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). We are not bothered about the salary issue, because at the end of the day, they will still pay us.”
Day Dreamers!
Meanwhile, the union has faulted the conduct of Post-UTME examination by the universities during the strike without the involvement of academic staff and urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to intervene on the issue
this's just the beginning! You(ASUU) don't own the university!
