Politics / Fayose Behind Fuel Scarcity, APC Alleges by samkay3g(m): 10:17pm On Apr 24, 2016
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of alleged complicity in the fuel supply crisis in the state.
In a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party said it was in possession of “incontrovertible evidence” that the governor was allegedly contributing to the scarcity of fuel in the state to sabotage the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.Accusing Fayose and his aides of mischievously disparaging the President for not doing enough to make fuel available to Nigerians while they were the actual culprits, Olatunbosun said available information confirmed that daily allocations of fuel to the state were allegedly being diverted to other states with the alleged connivance of some National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas officials.
But reacting, Fayose’s Special Assistant on New Media and Public Communication, Lere Olayinka, said the allegation was unfounded, telling the APC to be wise.
“Is it the governor that is also responsible for fuel scarcity in other states? They are only trying to seek relevance. They better face the task of bringing good governance to the people,” he added.
Olatunbosun said available records revealed that 10 trailers of fuel for Ekiti State on Fayose’s request were diverted mostly to stations outside the state.
“The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mrs Dupe Alade, had earlier written for same allocation but her letter to NNPC was stepped down when Fayose used his office to request for the allocation of fuel to 10 filling stations, many of which do not exist in Ekiti State.
“The governor’s letter was addressed to the Area Manager at Mosimi and minuted to Ore and was processed by the Ore office of NNPC.
“The trailers were loaded on Wednesday and Thursday the 20th and 21st of April but the real fuel companies and vendors were prevented from loading until the 10 trailers demanded by the governor left the depot but were diverted to other stations outside Ekiti State,” he stated.
Olatunbosun stated that the development reportedly elicited protests and complaints from the real fuel marketers in Ekiti State, adding that this had resulted in acute shortage of fuel in the state with few stations dispensing fuel selling at prohibitive costs to the masses that Fayose claimed to be their friends.
He listed the company names in the letter of the governor to include Amsek Filling Station opposite Omolayo along Ikere road, Ado-Ekiti, that is selling above official price.
“Other stations not in existence in Ekiti State but which appeared in the governor’s letter is Royal Oil, which the letter falsely claimed to exist in Omuo-Ekiti.
“Rova Oil, also on the governor’s letter, no longer exists in Ekiti because it has since been sold and its name changed and it is now operating under NNPC. It is located in Ajilosun area of the state capital and selling above NNPC official price.
“Other non-existent stations in Ekiti but which appeared in the governor’s letter and was allocated fuel is Bisi Jay located in Ile-Oluji in Ondo State.
“The other company that received Ekiti State’s allocation is Ademur located in Osun State. This company has no station in Ekiti and it has no lifting right or permit in Ore, while Eyeowa Fuel that got allocation does not exist in Ekiti,” he explained.
He alleged that Moson Global located in Ifon, Ondo State, also received Ekiti allocation at NNPC official price but selling above official price to the public.
He challenged the governor to deny ever writing to the NNPC for fuel allocation.
“There is need for the security agencies and the Minister for Petroleum to investigate the governor’s activities at the NNPC offices both in Ore and Mosimi and the roles of NUPENG officials in this wicked unleashing of pains on Ekiti people by unpatriotic act to sabotage the Federal Government,” he added.

Politics / Chibok Girls Not Missing –fayose by samkay3g(m): 7:45am On Mar 31, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday declared that no pupil was abducted by Boko Haram from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
Over 200 pupils of the school were reportedly abducted in 2014 by the terror group.
The governor said the report was politically motivated to influence public opinion against the Goodluck Jonathan administration ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Fayose spoke while declaring open a two-day workshop on “Political Aspirants Capacity Enhancement” organised by Women Arise for Change Initiative. It was organised for women from Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states.
He said, “Today, many opposition leaders are underground. I don’t think any of these girls is missing; it is a political strategy. Who is fooling who? If you wanted to use it to remove some people, you have succeeded already.
“I don’t know if there are missing girls but no indication has shown that. It is a political strategy, because I don’t think any girl is missing. If they are missing, let them find them.”
The governor also took a swipe at
# BringBackOurGirls campaigners, saying some of them are using it to look for appointments.
He lamented that human rights groups had decided to keep quite since President Muhammadu Buhari came on board.
Fayose said, “I’m concerned about the activities of human rights groups. Today the government of the day is obeying court order of their choice, while human rights are not respected.
“We must talk about government providing cover for criminals. You are now using that person to harass innocent person. You will never have peace when you hide justice.”
He added, “Police came into town yesterday (Tuesday) to arrest political opponents. If you like, demonise me, I will demonise you. I don’t need the police and the SSS (Department of State Services) to walk in my state. It is when you are not popular that you walk with police.
“Any government that rises against me, that government will come down. I’m Peter the rock. By engaging me, you make me more popular and relevant and then court sympathy. I’m one person that is going places. That is why all these challenges are against me.”
The governor urged women seeking elective offices to be loyal to their husbands.
The President of the initiative, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, said the objective of the workshop was to enhance women political participation and their inclusion in decision making process by promoting female political aspirants and appointees. She said it was to encourage a more massive political mobilisation of women.
She lamented that Nigerian women had not fully involved themselves in politics, despite the constitutional provisions giving them rights to political participation. https://mobile.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10206077638604920&id=1380833650&refid=7&_ft_=qid.6268101261295658631%3Amf_story_key.-3525619692523863090&__tn__=%2As

Crime / Police Arrest Two Masquerades For Stealing N57,000 by samkay3g(m): 3:24pm On Aug 23, 2015
The Police in Nsukka on Saturday arrested two men in
masquerade costume in Ovoko Community, Nsukka LGA,
Enugu State, for allegedly beating up a passenger on a
commercial motorcycle and robbing him of N57,000.
The incident happened on the Nsukka/Oballo-Afor highway.
A police source said policemen moved to the scene when the
victim, Mr. Chinonso Ezewaji, reported the matter to Nsukka
Police Area command and the two men were arrested.
“The escorts of the masquerade however ran away.
“There were eight masquerades. They blocked the Nsukka/
Obollo-Afor road and harassed people.
“The two arrested masquerades however denied collecting the
N57,000 from Ezewaji but claimed they know the person
who collected the money from the victim.
“When we searched one of the arrested masquerade, we saw
Indian hemp in his pocket,” the police source said.
When contacted, Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police
Command, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, confirmed the incident, saying
investigation had commenced on the matter.
He urged communities to regulate and monitor those who
wear masquerade costumes, adding that some of them used
the opportunity to harass, intimidate and rob innocent
members of the public.
“The Police are not against the people practising their
tradition and culture but community leaders must know the
character of people they allow to wear costumes of
masquerade in the name of culture.
“A masquerade has no right to mount road block on busy
highways where motorists, motorcyclists and other road users
move on daily basis.
“The police have commenced investigation and will get to the
root of this matter as issues of masquerade disturbing people
have become a recurring decimal,” Amarizu said.
The victim, Ezewaji, a trader, who deals on clothing materials,
told the News Agency of Nigeria he was on his way from
Nsukka to Obollo-Afor to see his mother when the
masquerade stopped the motorcycle he was riding on.
“They beat me, searched me and collected N57,000.
“When they left, I ran into the bush and when I discovered
they have gone some distance, I came out and went to the
police to report.
The two masquerades identified themselves as Kenchukwu
Eze, a carpenter, and Ejiofor Eze, a brick-layer.
They, however, denied the allegation that they stole money
from Ezewaji
They claimed that their colleague, Chima Mamah, stole the
money.
Eze, however, admitted that the police saw Indian hemp in
his pocket, saying it was the leftover of what they smoked
before coming out.
“If the police release me, I will not wear masquerade
costume, nor smoke Indian hemp again,” he pleaded.

Politics / Radio Biafra Back On Air by samkay3g(m): 10:18am On Aug 23, 2015
Controversial pirate channel, Radio Biafra, has again resumed transmission, despite the Federal Government’s claim that it had jammed the station’s signals. The Federal Government had on July 14 announced that it jammed the transmission signals of the radio station, which was operating illegally from an unknown location. Our correspondent observed that the channel had not been transmitting on the FM 104.7 band, on which its signals was received in Enugu, since July. However, it was observed on Saturday that the station, which was monitored from 8pm to 9pm, had resumed transmission on the same 104.7 FM band, from which it transmitted before it went off air. Listeners were invited to call in from various parts of the South-East, and from outside the country. The station was still transmitting as of the time of filing this report. The broadcast addressed the most current issues in the country, an indication that the channel was still on air.

Politics / FG Monitors Nigerians’ Facebook, Twitter Accounts by samkay3g(m): 10:50am On Aug 16, 2015
The Federal Government has been monitoring the social media accounts of Nigerians who are suspected of having links with various terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, findings by SUNDAY PUNCH have shown. Our correspondent learnt that through covert operations, which have been going on for a while, security agencies hack into the Facebook and Twitter accounts of those they are monitoring. The move, it was learnt, was meant to frustrate terrorist attacks on the country. The project, which is costing the country millions of dollars, is being managed by the Office of the National Security Adviser. Multiple sources, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to inform the press about the security checks, stated that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan approved the request by security agencies to spy on targeted sections of the population, mainly religious extremists and radicalised individuals. It was gathered that the project is being coordinated by some foreign firms, including an Israeli firm, Elbit System. Our correspondent learnt that the local espionage involves hacking of phones, email accounts, social media accounts and bugging of telephone conversations of persons of interest. A source said, “The surveillance system is not being used to target everyone, as people may want to believe. It is only deployed to get intelligence on specific targets because it would be hard and difficult to use such system to spy on all Nigerians; the amount of data would be too huge and staggering for the assessors to sort and manage. “Basically, the system is used to hack into emails and phones of targets, and the targets are those who are suspected of having ties with terrorists, whether Boko Haram, ISIS or any other criminal element.” It was also learnt that the system had greatly assisted security agencies to nip in the bud and also frustrate many terror plots and attacks across the country. The security agencies had been using electronic trackers, which they were used to track and apprehend kidnappers. But it was learnt that the electronic surveillance system is more effective and has better capacities to hack emails, passwords and social media accounts used by terrorists to recruit members. The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed that security agencies were using a sophisticated surveillance system as part of measures to combat crime and terrorism in the country. He said, “It is not a new technology. Everywhere in the world, it is used, including drones and other sophisticated equipment. Nigeria is part of the international community; we have our surveillance system, which shows that Nigeria is developing.” Ojukwu said the security agencies respect the rights of Nigerians and were not using the system to hack the phones and computers of innocent Nigerians. The Department of State Services could not be reached for information on their use of the surveillance system. Source : www.punchng.com/news/fg-monitors-nigerians-facebook-twitter-accounts/

Politics / I Remain ‘partyless’, But A Statesman – Obasanjo by samkay3g(m): 9:57pm On Aug 10, 2015
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he remains a ‘party-less Nigerian’ and will continue to be a statesman. He said this on Monday at his Abeokuta Hilltop residence when a delegation from Kogi State, led by the state Governor, Captain Idris Wada (retd.), paid him a courtesy call. The former President, who was the a chairman, Board of Trustees, Peoples Democratic Party, said despite not playing active partisan politics anymore, he would continue to work with any Nigerian with capabilities of good intention and leadership traits. Obasanjo publicly tore his PDP membership card in February this year to renounce his membership of the then ruling party. He noted that personality and performance would normally rank above the party platform. He said, “We should understand first that not the party makes the person, but the person makes the party. It is who you are that you bring into the party. “For now, I remain a partyless Nigerian, but I will continue to welcome any Nigerian with good leadership qualities. “It does not matter which party you are, either PDP, APC, Labour, APGA or any party at all; as long as you are a committed, sincere and a purposeful leader, I am ready for you.” Obasanjo, who commended Wada for engendering peace in Kogi State, said he was providing purposeful leadership. He said, “Everybody is welcome, but they must be with good leadership traits, with genuine intention to improve the country.” Wada described Obasanjo as a father of the nation, stressing that those who believed in him, would continue to learn from his commitment and dedication to the growth of the country. The governor added, “Everywhere we meet Baba, we learn a lot and we shall continue to learn from him. He is a father of the nation. He is a figure we admire. “We pray that we all will be like him because he is a committed Nigerian, who has devoted himself to the growth of the country. So, why not, if some of us decide to emulate him, be with him and appreciate him?” Source : www.punchng.com/news/i-remain-partyless-but-a-statesman-obasanjo/
Politics / Buhari Queries Okonjo-iweala Over Diversion Of $1bn Rail Transport Loan by samkay3g(m): 8:01pm On Aug 10, 2015
ABUJA- President Muhammed Buhari on Monday asked the Ministry of Finance to provide explanations on the whereabouts of the foreign loans obtained for rail projects but diverted to other purposes under the watch of former Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala.

The president directive followed an instance of the diversion of a substantial part of the loan of USD1.005 billion from the Chinese Exim Bank, meant for the construction of a standard gauge rail line linking Lagos and Kano States to somewhere else.

This was even as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Bashar informed the President that only $400 million id left of the loan.

Bashar made the revelation during a presentation of his ministry’s activities to president Buhari at the presidential villa.
He also briefed the President on some challenges facing the transport and maritime sectors such as encroachment on railway land, lack of security on inland waterways and some vague agreements between the Nigeria Ports Authority and ports concessionaires.

Reacting, President Buhari said that it was disappointing to find that foreign loans obtained in line with signed agreements were moved from one project to another.

“I hope that due process was followed before such diversions were carried out. Taking money from one project to another has to be done properly,” he warned.

The President regretted that government had, over the years, failed to meet its counterpart funding obligation on some projects, leading to such projects being left uncompleted or abandoned.

He added that there was a clear need to streamline, harmonize, and prioritize on-going projects in the transportation sector.
