Politics › APC Hell-bent On Discrediting PDP – Metuh by samseen02(op): 10:14pm On Oct 15, 2014 |
Abuja – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday in Abuja welcomed the former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to the 2015 presidential contest. Mr Olisa Metuh, PDP National Publicity Secretary, however, in a statement, faulted some claims made by the former head of state at the formal declaration of his intention to join the race. “While we congratulate and wish him well in his ambition, we have noted some distortions and misrepresentation of facts in his speech and consequently wish to put the record straight. “According to Gen. Buhari, Nigeria was generating 4,000 MW of electricity in 1999 but has today fallen short of that capacity under the PDP. “However, the fact remains that as at May 29th 1999 when PDP took office, Nigeria was generating 1,600 MW. “We urge Nigerians to fact-check on this. Corroboration of this figure can also be sought from the World Bank, the IMF and multiple other authoritative sources,’’ Metuh said. He added that it was common knowledge that under the transformative leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria now generated 4,568 MWS of electricity; a triple of what was generated in 1999. Metuh added that the assertion by Buhari that a growing economy which the PDP inherited in 1999 had been destroyed within 15 years in office does not represent the reality on the ground. The facts, he said, could be verified from the hand-over notes from the military, the World Bank and IMF which stated that Nigeria was the third largest economy in Africa in 1999, behind South Africa and Egypt. “The nation is also rated number 48 in the world; our Foreign Reserve at 3.6 billion dollars while our foreign debt stood at 36 billion dollars,’’ the PDP spokesman further said. He added that it was incontrovertible that in the last 15 years of PDP leadership, especially the last three years of purposeful administration provided by President Jonathan, Nigeria’s economy had become the largest in Africa. The country, Metuh said, was the 26th largest in the world, adding that its Foreign Reserve was now over 39 billion dollars while its foreign debts had reduced to less than 7 billion from 36 billion dollars. He said the fact remained that in the last 15 years under the PDP and the last three years of vigorous application of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda, there had been an unparalleled government input in agriculture. This, he noted, had made production high while the country`s food import had reduced from N1.1 trillion in 2010 to N684 billion currently. “We understand that the APC is hell-bent on using every opportunity at its disposal to discredit the PDP in quest for political control. “We urge their handlers to always cross-check their facts and stop making mockery of respected Nigerians in the mould of Gen. Buhari,’’ Metuh said. He expressed hope that in the future, Gen. Buhari would not allow himself to be further embarrassed in the course of his political campaign. Health › Liberian Ebola Medics Go Back To Work After Strike by samseen02(op): 10:00pm On Oct 15, 2014 |
Monrovia – Liberian doctors and nurses at the frontline of the Ebola epidemic returned to work Wednesday after a two-day strike demanding hazard pay in the country hardest hit by the crisis. “We are back on job. Our leaders told us to do so and we have resumed full service until otherwise ordered,” said Alphonso Wesseh, a spokesman for staff at the Island Clinic in the capital Monrovia. “We wanted people to know that we are not paid the way we should be and this has to change,” he said. “We have problems with our families because our wives and children think we are taking too much risk.” Residents hailed their return. “Thank you Lord… to have put reason in the health workers. I ask you to bless and guide them in their work,” said 32-year-old Famanta Yassa, whose daughter is being treated for Ebola. “You cannot blame the health workers. It is true that they took an oath to save lives but they are taking too many risks. They are making sacrifices because they are not properly paid,” she added. Ebola patients also voiced relief. “All those we did not see Monday and Tuesday are here. We are well taken care of, I am happy,” one told AFP by telephone. The health care workers ended their strike late Tuesday, saying they decided to put their country’s needs first following global appeals to end the protest. Ninety-six Liberian health workers have died so far in the epidemic and their colleagues were seeking compensation for the risk of dealing with Ebola, which spreads through contact with bodily fluids and for which there is no vaccine or widely available treatment. Shortly before the workers ended their strike, news emerged of the United States pledging $5 million (four million euros) to Liberia for their danger pay. Rajiv Shah, the head of the US Agency for International Development, announced the contribution after meeting Tuesday with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. In Guinea meanwhile, President Alpha Conde, saying he wanted to mobilise “all available human resources” in the fight against Ebola, urged retired health workers to report for duty. Hundreds of health workers are retired, a pensions official told AFP. A union leader said they would need clear assurances on their safety and other issues. According to the World Health Organization’s latest toll published on Wednesday, 4,493 people have died from Ebola as of October 12 out of a total of 8,997 registered cases in seven countries. Guinea, where the epidemic originated in December 2013, has seen 1,472 cases and 843 deaths. Liberia is the worst-hit of all, with 4,249 cases and 2,458 deaths, followed by Sierra Leone with 3,252 cases and 1,183 deaths. Health workers continue to pay a heavy price for their efforts with 236 deaths out of 427 cases across the countries. Forty were in Guinea. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/liberian-ebola-medics-go-back-work-strike/ |

SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AFRICAN GIANT SNAIL:
What is a Giant African Land Snail?
A Giant African Land Snail is a snail that originates from Africa, of the genus Achatina, Archachatina and Metachatina. There are many different types, many of which are found in captivity. These include including Achatina fulica, Achatina achatina, Archachatina marginata, Achatina iredalei and many more.
How long do they live for?
Giant African Land Snails can live for 10 years, but the average is more like 5 or 6 years.
How long do they take to become adults?
Giant African Land Snails vary in their growth rates. If kept in optimum conditions, you can expect your snails to start laying eggs between nine months and two years, depending on the species and how they are kept. Snails keep growing throughout their lifetime, but slow down on reaching maturity.
When do they stop growing?
Giant African Land Snails continue growing throughout their life, but they grow quicker when they are younger, when plenty of food is available.
Do they come in different colours? Yes. Achatina fulicas shell range from a dark brown, through to a greeny-brown and light tan colour, and may or may not have stripes. Achatina achatina has a brown shell with tiger like stripes, Achatina iradelei have a pale yellow shell, and the body of Achatina immaculata can be a very pale grey or tan. In the separate Achatina and Archachatina species, the variations of shell and body pattern and colour vary tremendously, and sometimes only an expert can tell the different species apart.
What senses do they have? Giant African Land Snails can sense light and dark, temperature and humidity, rough and smooth, they can taste, they can see?not sure of they can smell though in the human sense.
Do they have personalities? I think so! Some snails are greedier and eat more, some are more laid back, some are lazy, some just rush around everywhere, and some prefer being handled to others.
How fast are they? The average speed for a Giant African Land Snail is about 0.04 miles per hour.
What's the most common species? The most common Giant African Land Snail you are likely to find in captivity is Achatina fulica.
What's the largest species? The largest ever Giant African Land Snail is a species called Achatina achatina, and one individual grew to 15 inches long.
How many eggs does a Giant African Land Snail lay? It can lay over 300 eggs in one go, though the species varies, there are some which lays from one to twenty eggs at a time.
How can I get rid of unwanted eggs? Freeze them for a couple of days, crush them or burn them.
How can you tell if a snail is sexually mature? The snails which develop aperture teeth and/or reflected lip are sexually mature when these features are developed. For those without these physical features only size can be used. When the shell is almost full size, it is sexually mature. To learn more follow the link at the bottom of the main post |

Mellin: How can one get rid of ants, millipede, lizards, flies from the snail farm? are you making use of open ground method for your snail farm? Because i don't see no reason why u should have all those kind of pests in your snail house if its well protected with net except for ants whcih is also easily manageable to control. So correct the issue by mounting nets around the farming area. Though i'll advice you to use pen house with a soil deep of 10inch to control ants also secure the pen with nets. Change the soil periodically to avoid flies nd ants in the future. Also remove food reminants(such as fruits or inorganic foods that you serve them that has spend morthan two days though its rear) in the pen. Clean d snail house but don't over do it because it may also cause damage to the snails.

If you're breeding from the adult stage (point of lay), just with 3 snails with proper care no doubt you will have nothing lessthan 600 snails within 12months thats if you're breeding with d right specie. |

You can get a baby snail @d rate of N30-N50 depending on the farmer's price (so reliable source to get your snail is from the bush or from the farmer). Bt i won't advice you to go for baby snails if you want to make it as a business especially if you're new to snail farming. Though you can still order it to test run your farm for you to get the idea of how to breed snails from the scratch especially getting to know their pets and diseases. |

Business › Re: How Do I Become A Millionaire In One Year With My Blog by samseen02(m): 9:41pm On Oct 10, 2014 |
crestime: @OP, i will say to you, Very correct statement but Very very wrong strategy. You can more than possibly become a multi millionaire(in dollars) within a year only when you know and apply the right things in blogging. DEAL BREAKER: YOU CAN ONLY MAKE DIRTY MONEY BLOGGING WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SELL. Otherwise, we have what we call World Wide Waste of time. If you want to become really comfortable and make it big in blogging within a year, you have to:
1. Choose a profitable niche(i.e. A niche that has many serious businesses that can advertise with you / a niche that has many willing buyers and products to sell - I like niches like freight/exports/imports)
2. Sell > Advertise - selling on your blog is more profitable than advertising. You have to Start selling from day 1. If possible, make all your posts like a sales copy(i.e. Try to sell to the reader at the end of each post) or put related product banners around your posts. Advertising can come later. That is biscuit money.
3. Know your key audience - if you are a pro and want to sell physical products, seminars, consultations or contact services and get your cash in your bank account in Nigeria, then you need to be disciplined enough to know that you must target only Nigerians. But if you are just starting out and you don't need much stress about receiving payments and making clarifications, you may want to sell affiliate products to your readers. For this, I recommend you don't target Nigerians at all. Instead, target the US and use amazon associate programme. I think they are smooth.
4. Get a good keyword domain name - get a domain name that describes your blog(e.g, if you write about tracking shipments, your domain name could be something like easyshipmenttracker dot com). This will help your seo and your blog will likely show up when people google how to track their shipments easily.
5. You can make money from the first day - stop scaring people away by saying that they need more years to make money from their blogs. If your blog does not pay you in the first 3 months then, you are among the clueless majority. It means that you lack monetization ideas. If you can really have a solid strategy, be interesting with your posts, and engage with your readers, they will buy from you from the very first day if they want to. 6. You don't need high traffic - it is sad how people put all their interests on traffic numbers but yet make next to nothing out of it, even if they get the traffic. As far as I'm concerned, I don't need a lindaikeji-esque blog. I need a blog in a niche where I can sell. Simple. I don't need traffic. I don't need a million visitors. I don't even need a thousand page views. I will be very satisfied if I can just get only 100 interested and willing buyers everyday. If I can sell to them and make them very satisfied, they'll tell others about me. That's free marketing + trusted customers. Is this not business?....... I have more than enough tips coming. If you want me to continue, just like my post Bro you really hit it |
