THE CROWN EPISODE 1 Awaken the morning was the loud crowing of the cock. It was mild Dawn but a silenced night. The earth slowly awaking and so was the people of Umuagwo. She walked to the backyard of the hut and took her pot to go fetch water. Aside other chores, this was one she enjoyed doing the long walk to the stream with her friend was always worth it. On her way she welcomed a lot of stares, no kidding but she didn’t have the rights to welcome them or not. She was beautiful, her ebony skin was what everyone envied, smooth and flawless both in looks and personality. Tall, Curvy and everything society felt makes a beautiful woman. “Ah! Mmesoma kept me on the way giving me details that we both weren’t even sure if it was true or not. I mean.. what business of mine is it if the king’s first son will be returning home. First son? Ha.. I didn’t even know he had more than one son. The villagers see me as an outcast anyway so what’s there to bother about? Not just my difference in culture makes me stand out, my beauty doesn’t help either gaining attention that I don’t find pleasing I walked into the shallow part of the stream to fill my pot. I stopped when I heard footsteps, turned to look around and no one was there. I continued with filling my pot, I heard the noise again and fear suddenly gripped me. I hate coming to this particular stream alone because I’ve heard stories of how strangers die in the stream. My mother always told me to ignore because I wasn’t a stranger of the land and I’ve taken to her words but right now I’m scared. I placed my land on my chest and moved it slowly. Someone suddenly jumped out of the trees, I screamed and tried to run then found myself in the deeper parts of the stream. I struggled with my hands and legs I could still see the stature of the person standing by the stream. “I can’t swim” I managed to voice before letting the water have his way. Different thoughts on my mind, I’m my parents only child.. what if I don’t get back home to them? What if I don’t get the help I need? Could the person be one of my parent’s enemies? My parents don’t have enemies, none that I know of. Is it because I’m not a daughter of the land? But this is my maternal home. I was running out of oxygen. I felt somebody grab me by my waist probably pulling up to the shores. I was carried out and dropped on the ground but I was totally too weak to open my eyes or even move. He pressed hard on my chest till I threw up all the water I had taken in. I started breathing and coughing profusely trying to gain myself. “Are you okay?” He asked patting on my upper back “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you and I didn’t realize on time that you can’t swim” He sounded remorseful ” I’m fine. My pot” I searched with my eyes. He left me and went to fill the pot then brought it me. I sighed softly. I’ve never broken any of my mother’s fetching pots and I don’t intend to, especially now that I should be more mature and responsible. I tried to get up and he assisted me “Thank you” I smiled plainly “It’s okay, if I didn’t jump out on you like that you wouldn’t have drowned” I bent down to carry the pot of water, I was still coughing profusely. He beat me to it and carried it instead I decided to look up to his face, he seemed too nice to ignore. I was mad at him for scaring me but I feel a little better now. Aside his muscular looks, he had an handsome face and nice hair. I smiled and started walking at his request. He insisted on helping me get the water home and more if necessary ” Don’t be jocular…” I stopped to laugh ” What will a fine young man like yourself be doing helping a maiden fetch water from the stream?” I turned my gaze to him. ” Fine young man? I can help with cooking too with the way you just flattered me” He smiled and I laughed again. He’s so hilarious “We are here” I announced like it is some glamorous entrance “Why go to a stream far from your house?” ” Maybe so I would get scared to death” Sarcastically He dropped the pot before replying me ” I am so sorry about that” He apologized for the hundredth time, I nodded and smiled. I stood watching him walk away after waving at him. “Who was that young man?” I flinched at the suddenness. I turned “I met him at the stream, he saved me from drowning” I blurted giving her cause to worry unintentionally She exclaimed and turned me around to look at me ” How? Why did you try to swim when you know you can’t” “I’m fine mother” “No wonder you took so long to get back home,. I and your father assumed mmesoma was keeping you” She said, partly right. If mmesoma didn’t involve me for so long I would’ve perhaps gotten to the stream before… Wait! I didn’t get to know his name ” So who’s the young man? What’s his name?” She asked and I scratched my head ” You don’t know” she looked at me up-down “My friend join me in the kitchen, your father will leave soon and he needs to eat” She completed before walking away. I could I’ve forgotten to ask him his name, he also didn’t bother asking for mine. What a waste of all the laughs. I concluded before joining my mother. maybe three minutes from now She quickly left the window side and the moonlight shone into her room brightly, it became brighter immediately it became full The sword mark on the back of her neck shined brightly and lightened up all her room, it’s brightness overcame the moonlight and it radiated in every corner of her room She fell on her knees and closed her eyes, sweating profusely already and then, her pains started Her neck hurts a lot and she held it tight, trying not to cry out loud She cried silently so she won’t draw the attention of her parents and sister but the silent cry is the hardest thing she has ever done, her neck is acting like it’ll leave her body soon Then blood started coming out of her eyes as tears “I’m dying” she said in a muffled voice, still holding onto During the countless years, people that fall off this cliff were far too many to count; none survived, including three God-tier overlords whose power could lead them into the sky. At this moment, on the edge of this cliff, a black haired black eyed youth leaned on the side of a rock that measured two people in height. There was blood everywhere on top of his black clothing with many open wounds on his person. He was on the rock for just a few breaths worth of time yet under his feet was already a pool of blood. His chest heaved and it could be said that the pace at which he breathed was heavy enough to cause fear in a person. On his entire body, every one of his muscles trembled slightly indicating his exhaust and loss of strength. If it weren’t for this giant rock, he probably would not even be able to stand on his own. There is clear hatred deep in his eyes: “ My master spent his life trying to save the world; he saved countless people seeking neither benefit nor fame but because of this Sky Poison Pearl, you guys from the so-called Justice Sect killed my teacher seven years ago.” “I hate… Hate myself for being so useless. That I didn’t finish all of you dog shit Justice Sects off in these seven years!” Every word of his contained deep-seated hatred. Although it has been seven years, just thinking about the death of his teacher still made bloody tears stream down the edge of his eyes. The two words “Sky Poison” meant that this pearl was highly toxic, but medicine and poison are of the same origin. Teacher never used it’s poison; he only used alchemy to extract, melt and in the end produce holy medicines to save millions of lives. He taught all his medical skills to Yun Che thoroughly but seven years ago, word of his Sky Poison Pearl was spread. He gave it to Yun Che and told him to escape. Shortly afterwards, he died at the hands of the major sects. When news of his teacher’s death reached Yun Che he cried for three days and three nights. The root of hatred was firmly planted inside his heart and he no longer practiced in the medical but instead he absorbed poison from the pearl. Revenge became his only belief. After seven years he mastered the poison and bared the fangs of revenge. In less than ten days the poison spread not only thousands of miles, killing countless people, but also panic and horror throughout the Azure Cloud Continent. It attracted the strong and mighty for they were fascinated by this treasure. This started the hunt of Yun Che in order to obtain the Sky Poison Pearl, to the situation right now. He glared at everyone in his field of vision with hatred in his eyes and laughed coldly. As soon as his laughter reached the level of ice, he roared: “You son of a b*tches, you want my Sky Poison Pearl… You. Are. All. Daydreaming!!” After making this deep proclamation, Yun Che suddenly raised his hand and threw the Sky Poison Pearl in his mouth. He then pushed the pearl down his throat and it instantly rushed straight into his stomach. “What…. What are you doing!” “He actually… swallowed the Sky Poison Pearl!” “Yun Che! Do you want to die that badly!” “It’s fine, no big deal, we will kill him and take the pearl!” The Sky Poison Pearl entered his body, but the poison didn’t spread out in his body and kill him like they thought it would. A faint green light emitted from the surface of his body. “Kill him now! Otherwise the Sky Poison Pearl may change inside his body. That would be a huge problem!” Roaring, a dozen people in the front row went for Yun Che at the same time. Looking at the bodies of people that he wanted to destroy, Yun Che began to laugh. Darian pointed to the men on the ground. “Watch them while I get her taken care of.” Hicks had come around the car with a tire iron as backup. He nodded and slammed the metal against his palm in a threatening manner. Darian made it to the girl as her legs gave out. “I’ve got you.” She stared up at the stranger as she seemed to try to understand what just happened. “Who are you?” “My name is Darian, baby. You’re safe with me. Just relax.” “I didn’t mean it,” she whimpered and laid her head on his chest. “I don’t want to cause problems.” Darian kept his arms around her and pulled her tighter against him. “You didn’t do anything wrong, love.” She nodded. “I did. I always do.” He nuzzled the side of her head and looked up as two girls came racing around the corner. “Jesus, Larkin, you almost gave us a heart attack,” one of the women said. Darian narrowed his eyes. “Where were you guys?” Both women turned red at the accusing expression on his face. The shorter one cleared her throat. “We were in the bar around the corner. Darian looked over his shoulder. “Hicks, will you get a business card for them and write my number on it?” Hicks nodded and took a look at the men on the ground, as though making sure they couldn’t cause trouble. “Yes, sir.” Within a minute, the driver handed Monica the card. “That has all my information…” Laura shook her head and started to take a step toward them but stopped at the look in his eyes. “Listen, we can’t let you take our friend. We don’t know if you’re a good guy.” Darian sighed. He commended them for fighting for her, but he just wanted to get her home. “What would ease your minds?” Monica looked at Laura then back at him. “For starters, someone to confirm who you are.” “Hicks, will you go into the bar they were in and have the manager come out?” “Sure thing.” His driver disappeared around the corner. Darian took more of her weight when her legs wouldn’t stop shaking and he had a hard time holding herself up. “Are you sure she’s only had a few beers? Is there a chance someone slid something into her glass?” Laura shook her head. “No chance. We don’t trust anyone but each other, so we pay close attention to the people around us.” “It could have been the bartender,” he suggested. Monica shook her head. “We only order bottles of beer, and we have our own bottle opener. A friend of ours was drugged a few years ago, so we’re cautious.” Darian nodded. “Why do you think she’s like this now?” “She never drinks. We told her she didn’t have to drink to come with us,” Monica explained. “But she said she wanted off the porch for once.” “What the hell does that mean?” he asked in frustration. “It’s a saying. If you can’t play with the big dogs, stay on the porch with the puppies,” Laura explained. Darian closed his eyes. He started to ask something else, but Hicks had brought back another guy. “Boss, this is Danner. He’s the manager.” Hicks turned to Danner. “Do you know who this is?” Darian knew the answer when the man’s eyes widened and his mouth fell open. “Mr. Marsh.” “Is he a good guy?” Laura asked Danner. Darian bent his knees and lifted Larkin into his arms. “I doubt I’ll be calling, but I’ll have her call in the morning, so you don’t worry.” Hicks opened the back door of the limo. “What do you want done with those two?” Hicks indicated the men on the ground. Darian turned to look down at the pathetic men he’d laid out. “Nothing,” he said before he ducked into the car. He arranged Larkin in his lap, so her head was on his chest and her legs were stretched out over the padded seat. He was vaguely aware of the three sets of eyes watching him from the sidewalk. “Get us to the building. I can guarantee she’s going to be sick.” “Poor girl,” Hicks whispered as he pulled into the street. “We’ll take care of her.” Darian smoothed her hair from her face. She was a beautiful woman. He loved how she curled herself around him and lay against him so trustingly. He knew she was drunk, but the way she had looked at him made his stomach tighten with desire.
