Politics / How A Woman Defeated Both Fayemi And Fayose In Ekiti by samueloduoye(m): 5:44pm On Sep 11, 2019
Abiodun Olujimi used to be a senator in Ekiti State. She became widely known around the last general elections, amidst a terrific supremacy battle between her and former governor, Ayodele Fayose.

The two belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but Fayose didn’t want her to return to the Senate. He was said to have supported Dayo Adeyeye of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who eventually won the seat. But now, thanks to the election tribunal, Adeyeye has been sacked.

That was a rude shock to Fayose, who had done everything possible to relegate Olujimi from politics. But aside from that, what’s more interesting was that Adeyeye won the election with both Fayose’s political weight and that of the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi.

Foreign Affairs / Inside The £8 Million Mansion Where Robert Mugabe Used To Live by samueloduoye(m): 6:46pm On Sep 10, 2019
Until his death, former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe lived lavishly in this mouth-watering mansion, popularly called the Blue Roof. It is an estate on its own, and it’s worth £8million. What else would one call a residence that occupies 44 acres of land, if not an estate?

It was learnt that the mansion is more than three times the size of Zimbabwe’s State House. It was where Mugabe spent his days after his ouster from power in 2018. To protect the house, no fewer than four uniformed police officers patrol the perimeter 24 hours a day.

It is reportedly made up of three separate title deeds – the first two bought in 1987 by the M & S Syndicate Ltd, set up seven years earlier.

The Architecture and design of the residence speak of grandeur and lavish taste, right from the gate to every part of the mansion itself.

TV/Movies / Bbnaija: Will Seyi End Up Like Enkay Over Fight With Tacha? by samueloduoye(m): 6:34pm On Sep 10, 2019
This week will be the most competitive since the fourth season of Big Brother Nigeria began in June. Khafi Kareem, Mike Edwards, Tacha Akide and Seyi Awolowo will be fighting the hard battle of staying at the House beyond Sunday.

Now that it’s very likely that two housemates will leave, the battle even becomes much tougher among fans. No doubt, these four are housemates to beat any day. But among other factors that will shape the voting pattern, the cold war between Seyi and Tacha are the most significant ones.

Politics / Opposition Politics: What Osun Governor, Gboyega Oyetola Doesn’t Know by samueloduoye(m): 4:35pm On Sep 09, 2019
Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Saturday claimed that will replicate the legacy of continuity instituted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. In his own mind, he’s working to make Osun a permanent state for APC, thus stiffening the chances of opposition parties in future elections.

It’s surprising that Oyetola has quickly forgotten the politics that brought him to power in 2018; how the election remains an unresolved moral issue, even after the supreme court ruling. Welcome to Osun, where most people belong to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but the APC is ruling.

Politics / Yahaya Bello Would Have Lost In Kogi If Not For This Single Reason by samueloduoye(m): 4:25pm On Sep 09, 2019
Governor Yahaya Bello has kept boasting that he will return as Kogi State governor during the election in November. But only a few people will know that he was barely saved by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Buhari.

He had also debunked claims that his administration was owing civil servants 38 months’ salaries. He said that he had cleared all outstanding workers’ salaries and pensioners’ claims in the state before August 28, this year. That backlog would have been his undoing, but for the ₦30bn special bailout from the presidency.

Politics / How Nigeria Can Solve Its Problems With ₦774bn by samueloduoye(m): 6:33pm On Sep 06, 2019
No arguing it, Nigeria is battling with quite many challenges. From insecurity and high crime rate to high unemployment and economic slowdown, there are enough reasons to conclude that Nigeria has reached its endpoint.

However, Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, has this idea of how we can achieve the standard of living and the economic prospect across the board. His suggestion was that the federal government give each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria at least ₦1 billion from the funds it recovered since 1999.

Falana said this during his speech at the 20th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture in Lagos on Thursday. He said the fund will be used for creating jobs for women and the youth at the grassroots and subsequently curb crime rates in the country.

“The Federal Government has recovered huge sums of money from looters. One of the policies of the government, the whistle-blowing policy, has fetched the country N605 billion as of three months ago,” Falana said.

Foreign Affairs / 11 Unforgettable Dates About Late Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe by samueloduoye(m): 6:12pm On Sep 06, 2019
Robert Gabriel Mugabe, the immediate past president of Zimbabwe, was in the league of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela in the race against colonialism. If not for his oppressive leadership style, his name would have remained indelible in the minds of Africans as a liberation icon.

He was born on 21 February 1924 in what was then Rhodesia – a British colony, run by its white minority.

In 1964, he was jailed for criticising the government, spending more than 10 years in prison without trial.

In 1973, while still in prison, he was chosen as president of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU). That prepared grounds for the revolution against white supremacists, which he led a few years later.

In 1980, Mugabe secured an overwhelming victory in the Republic of Zimbabwe’s first election in 1980. He served as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1987 and then as President from 1987 to 2017. That was the beginning of a pseudo-democratic leadership that got him poor international perceptions, with an increasing number of critics portraying him as a dictator.

Politics / South Africa Owes Us Compensation For Every Attack On Nigerians by samueloduoye(m): 2:05pm On Sep 05, 2019
Popular lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has given an idea of how best President Buhari’s Federal Government can address the ongoing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

Falana maintained that the government is supposed to sue the South Africa Government to demand compensation for Nigerian victims of the xenophobic attack in the foreign country.

His premise was that South Africa owed its liberation from apartheid rule to the supports of Nigeria and many other African nations. And if only for that reason, Nigerian deserves better treatment than Xenophobia.

His first recommendation: Nigeria should boycott the World Economic Forum scheduled to commence in South Africa on September 4. Earlier on Wednesday, the FG already did this.

Politics / Lai Mohammed On P&ID: Nobody Can Just Come, And Take Away Our $9.6bn by samueloduoye(m): 8:44pm On Sep 04, 2019
Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, has revealed that the Federal Government is exploring ways to escape paying the heavy $9.6bn fine imposed against it in favour of Irish firm, Process and Industrial Developments Limited (P&ID).

According to him, expecting that Nigeria will surrender up to $9.6bn in asset is dubious, and would not stand further litigation. But how does Mohammed expect this to happen, especially when P&ID is already profiling Nigerian assets for seizure?

Politics / Xenophobia: President Buhari Under Fire For Playing The Tribalism Card by samueloduoye(m): 1:42pm On Sep 04, 2019
Reno Omokri, on Tuesday, indicted President Buhari for being tribalistic in his approach to dealing with the current spate of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

According to him, “the President is not bothered about the killings of Nigerians in South Africa because he feels that most Nigerians there are Igbos. They are 5 percenters. If he wanted to, he could act fast. Remember how fast he acted with Zainab Aliyu in Saudi Arabia?”

The claim has since raised eyebrows with many Nigerians agreeing with Omokri that Buhari has truly been nonchalant, and acting below the standard expected of a leader.

Politics / Can Bukola Saraki Return To Political Relevance In Nigeria? by samueloduoye(m): 8:29pm On Sep 03, 2019
Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki used to be a formidable figure in Nigerian politics. His reign and political prowess appeared undefeatable until the last National Assembly elections, which left him ‘politically dead.”

However, there are reports that Saraki, who had also served as a governor of his state, Kwara, for eight years, is making frantic efforts to return to political limelight. It’s a step political watchers believe won’t be anyway easy for the erstwhile political godfather.

Sources close to the move told Guardian that. Saraki “recently held a closed-door meeting at his ‘Ileloke’ White House Ilorin residence with representatives of his followers across the existing 16 councils in the state.

Politics / As A Governor, My Business Was To Spend Money – Says Ex-zamfara Governor, Yari by samueloduoye(m): 8:29pm On Sep 02, 2019
Abdulaziz Yari, the immediate past governor of Zamfara, has come out for the first time to dismiss the fraud allegations levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking from his home in the North-Western state on Sunday, Yari said. “I challenge anyone who says I personalized government property or funds within and outside the country while as governor to come forward and expose me.

The EFCC has in early August combed Yari’s home, as well as those of his brother, Jafaru and his intimate friend, Sha’aya Mafara. About 21 exotic vehicles were found in his compound.

Celebrities / High Rate Of Divorce In Nollywood – Ronke Oshodi-oke Explains The Real Reason by samueloduoye(m): 8:22pm On Sep 02, 2019
The Nigerian movie industry is the haven of failed marriages, and there are just too many incidences to prove that. One of the very recent is the collapse of IK Ogbonna’s marriage to Sonia. It caught everyone unawares.

But while many people believe that such happens because of the nature of the job, and the supposed marriage-crashing attention it brings, popular actress, Ronke Ojo, aka Ronke Oshodi-Oke, thinks otherwise.

Politics / Ganduje Reacts To El-rufai’s Stand On Zoning, Talks Tough On Herdsmen Crisis by samueloduoye(m): 6:43pm On Aug 30, 2019
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Gabduje, has lent his voice to the speculations sponsored by Kaduna state colleague, Nasir El-Rufai that Nigeria should favour competence over zoning in selecting presidents.

Ganduje noted that El-Rufai’s way is not totally bad, and could be adopted if it offers a political advantage.

In his own words, “the way I look at it is that it is an issue between idealism and realism. Idealism is a situation whereby things should be done in accordance with the ideals. If things are done like that, then everybody should have equal treatment and everybody has equal chance to contest and then, what the people decide should be done.”

Politics / Nigeria’s Oil Industry, A Complete Joke – Petroleum Minister, Timipre Sylva by samueloduoye(m): 6:34pm On Aug 30, 2019
Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has described Nigeria’s way of doing oil business as a complete joke and a laughing stock.

Sylva was last week named as the helmsman for the petroleum ministry, acting as a deputy to President Buhari himself. He replaced Ibe Kachikwu, who led the four-year transformation of the oil and gas sector since 2015.

He spoke on the state of the industry in Abuja on Thursday while hosting delegates from Total Exploration and Production, Nigeria, led by Mike Sangster, its managing director.

According to Sylva, Nigeria must reduce the cost of production of its crude oil in order to prevent further loss. “We have to bring down our cost of production of crude, as we are presently a laughing stock in the way we do our business,” he said.

Sylva also explained that the practice of selling the country’s asset as being done by some multinational oil companies is wrong. He said the reserves in the country were growing lesser than expected, adding that it was time the country produced more.

“Those assets are amortised assets; you can’t sell what you don’t have. The quicker we produce our oil, the better for us. The industry has to grow. We need to look at exploration. Our reserves are growing far less than expected,” he said.

On the industry’s regulation and the stalled petroleum industry governance bill (PIGB), the minister said, “we need to tidy up the regulatory environment with the National Assembly. I have called the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for us to meet with the National Assembly and have a timeline which we can announce to the world,” he said.

“We also need to harmonise the laws so that we don’t have too many with which we can regulate the industry.”

Politics / How Atiku Roped Obasanjo On Failed $16bn Power Project, Other Corrupt Practices by samueloduoye(m): 5:21pm On Aug 28, 2019
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may have unknowingly opened the can of worms after accusing the Presidency of plotting to frame former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku had on Monday alleged that, in an attempt to rope Obasanjo into a crime, President Buhari’s government officials allegedly asked the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to “falsely and libellously” include Obasanjo Farm in a published list of tax evaders. He also cited some other media trials being sponsored by the EFCC.

But sources within the presidency told TheNation, that “when Mr Atiku Abubakar reflects on some of the things he said of President Obasanjo, he will realize that having framed the former President so well in the past, Obasanjo cannot anymore be framed by anyone, no matter how he tries.

Politics / Finally, Sowore Speaks On #revolutionnow, Denying Any Plan Against Buhari by samueloduoye(m): 5:06pm On Aug 28, 2019
Omoyele Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow, has spent 23 days in the detention of the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations of plotting to topple the government of President Mohammadu Buhari. Since his detention, he has been kept away from the public, thus denying him the chance to explain his side of the story.

But on Tuesday, Sowore opened up, stating categorically that he did not plot to topple the government. He explained that his action was directed at expressing his displeasure with the current state of affairs in the country.

He said: “President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the ruling party had led street protests in the past which the Applicant/Respondent claimed were planned to overthrow the federal government.

Politics / What To Expect If Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-rufai Becomes The President by samueloduoye(m): 12:57pm On Aug 27, 2019
Dr Obadiah Mailafia, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 elections, has explained why Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai will be a calamity as a president.

Speaking to ThePunch’s Tunde Jaja on the recent moves by El-Rufai to stop ‘zoning’ in elections, he said, “the 1999 constitution does not require ‘zoning’ as such. However, I believe that evolving constitutional conventions and norms lead us ineluctably in that direction.

“Governor Nasir el-Rufai is evidently a man of ambition, and often susceptible to grand self-delusions of the order of Bonaparte. Obasanjo in his memoirs describes him (el-Rufai) as someone who is loyal only to himself.

Politics / North Is What President Trump Called A “shithole” Region - Zopmal by samueloduoye(m): 8:55am On Aug 26, 2019
Emmanuel Zopmal, the president of the Middle Belt Youth Council, has admitted that the North has remained the most unproductive region in Nigeria despite its political advantage.

Speaking in an interview with Guardian, Zopmal believes that, for the past 59 years, the Northern Region has been what President Donald Trump called us a “shithole” region.

He said, “the insatiable appetite for political power by northern elites is the bane of Nigeria’s political development and economic growth. There’s no purposeful and committed programme of action, either by the central governments controlled by northern elites over the years nor by the political leaders at the state level in the nineteen states.

Crime / THE DETAILS: How The FBI Busted Nigerian ‘yahoo Boys by samueloduoye(m): 4:36pm On Aug 23, 2019
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Thursday indicted some Nigerians accused of running business email scam and money laundering schemes. Thom Mrozek, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Central District of California, said the 80 suspects arrested following a raid in Los Angeles, were mostly Nigerians.

The investigation has also revealed the identities of 77 more Nigerians who are now being hunted worldwide. But how exactly did the FBI managed to trace the scheme? It all started with the case of a Japanese woman who was deceived with non-existent diamonds.

The Japanese woman, known only as “F.K.” in court papers, was said to have begun a relationship innocently in March 2016 with someone named Garcia, a self-professed military officer in Syria. But soon, “Garcia” made “romantic overtures.”. He told her they couldn’t talk by phone because he wasn’t allowed to use one in Syria.

In a statement by the CNG’s spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, on Tuesday in Kaduna, the group rubbishes Tinubu’s concept of nationalism. It said Tinubu could not have claimed to be patriotic when his allies were the ones organising a revolution protest against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Celebrities / How Nigerians Reacted To The Eviction Of Enkay From Big Brother House by samueloduoye(m): 4:29am On Aug 20, 2019
Ede Nkechiyere, also know as Enkay is one of the two housemates who left the Big Brother House at the eviction night on Sunday.

While Enkay was part of the losing team ‘The Icons’, Joe was part of the winning team ‘Cruisetopia’ but was put up for eviction by Diane with her power of the chance card.

The race to eviction started when Biggie divided housemates into two different teams named ‘The Icons’ and ‘Cruisetopia’ to compete in challenges/tasks.

Some members of The Icons Cindy, Elozonam, Enkay, Frodd, Ike, Khafi, Omashola, Joe and Tacha were all put up for possible eviction for failing the nomination task.

Enkay’s exit was quite ignoble, with just 0.88% of votes. She had earned public anger after her impolite and rude actions towards fellow housemate, Cindy.

Politics / PDP Reacts To Buhari's Directive On Food Importation by samueloduoye(m): 2:06pm On Aug 17, 2019
