The Russians are not infallible, but they are definitely not far from stuck. As a matter of fact I dare say the Russians are yet to take the kid gloves off. That said, the next days will be interesting to watch.

We keep hearing this since February, I wonder when people will understand war isn't easy, Russia will run thin on long run, America and its allies are arming Ukraine massively, HIMARS are causing serious problems for Russia.

The African man is always thinking with his penis that's why this place is a mess, polygamy comes with a huge cost, who will cater for offsprings of such polygamous setup? people just don't think always after pleasure and in the end they destroy their society more.

Russian minions are the absolute worse, I wonder how people think Russia is infallible, they are already stucked in Ukraine, the more Ukraine resist them they more Russia will be frustrated, I doubt they expected this war to last long, their economy shrinked by 4.1 in Q2 and it will get worse

WHY? BECAUSE POWER GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION HAS SURPASSED 5,000 MW FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OUR HISTORY.

STOP LYING. In previous years we were generating 3000+ megawatts at best, including during the rainy season. The current improvement is not just about ''rainy season'', but actual improvement in power generation and distribution capacity, surpassing 5,043 megawatts.

Power supply improving during rainy season is something everyone in Nigeria has experienced and will agree with me on, let's wait till dry season to see what happens

You're talking rubbish. People never reported having 4 days of continuous supply or 23 hrs supply a day in previous 'rainy seasons'.

It's a yearly occurrence during rainfall season, people experience better power supply during rainy season, I don't understand why you are going around insulting people, Siemens deal you talk about has barely started, equipments are still being brought in.

Politics / Re: I Will Use A Contractionary Monetary Policy To Fight Inflation - Peter Obi by sanpipita(m): 11:25am On Sep 06, 2022

Yes, but the government has not been able to solve the main issues; security, power supply and import reduction. That is why we are in the situation we are today. Farmers can't go to farm due to insecurity, companies are folding up due to poor power supply, we import almost everything, etc.

In this kind of situation, putting more money in circulation without solving the above issues will keep weakening the naira, yes, but should we further tighten the purse?

There is high level of unemployment and purchasing power is low. So it is right for government to adopt an expansionary monetary policy but government's spending should be largely on improving infrastructure, power supply and tackling insecurity. If these are done and more fund is made available to local farmers and manufactures with low interest rate, there will be more employment, demand for foreign exchange will reduce, naira will begin to regain its value and purchasing power of the masses will increase.

Forget about those economists that support contractionary monetary policy for Nigeria's current situation. Most of them are theorists. Such policy will further raise the inflation and cause more hardship to the people.

Do you think the current inflation is caused by too much money available for people to spend (high demand) or high cost of getting products to the retailer's shelve?

The policy only works if there is too much money in circulation and people's purchasing power becomes higher, (may be due to increment in wage, payment of arrears, increase in employment rate, etc.) leading to increase in demand and consequent rise in price. In advanced countries, e.g. USA where people spend more, government takes this step to control inflation.

Even in Nigeria, in the 70's during economic boom, people spent on luxury goods due to high purchasing power. But what the military government did was imposition of price control in order to prevent inflation. They also tried to encourage local production by establishing manufacturing industries (We were not practicing capitalism then).

The expansionary policy is not the issue. The problem with Buhari's administration is poor policy implementation.

Contractionary policy isn't only thing Peter Obi has talked about, I'm sure you have heard him talk about improving power supply and moving us from consumption to production this go in line with main issues you pointed out, go through his thread there's more than contractionary policy he talked about.

It is obvious you don't understand his point. The contractionary monetary policy is used to reduce purchasing power of the people in an economy where excess demand has led to rise in price of goods and services (Inflation). This is done by reducing money in circulation.

In our own case, people's purchasing power is low. The inflation is caused by high cost of importation and insufficient local production. You can't reduce money in circulation in an economy where there is shortage of money already.

Expansionary monetary policy, which is the opposite of what he said, is even what we need right now to stimulate the economy and thereby raise the purchasing power of the people.

Expansionary monetary policy is what Buhari has been doing, that's why our inflation is high and currency value low, expansionary monetary policy you talk about will increase inflation, where is the purchasing power to handle an inflated economy, if we want to fight inflation contractionary policy is the way, many economists agree to this

do you actually understand what he is saying? The man is clueless!! but ofcourse his supporters are too dumb to understand what he just tweeted. I am sure Obi himself does not understand what he just posted probably Utomi who told him what to type.

Well let me explain to you idiots. The Nigerian economy needs expansionist policies not contractionary monetary policies. The ley word there for those of you who have a brain is "contraction". you use contractionary monetary policies when your economy is overheating and there is inflation, like currently exists in the US. Nigeria's inflation isnt caused by an overheating economy, it is caused largely by imported inflation due to plummeting exchange rate. You dont solve that problem by contracting the economy, what you will then induce is stagflation or depression, a situation where the economy is contracting due to tightening of liquidity in the economy and inflation is still rising (because the primary cause of inflation (devaluating currency) is not adressed.

It shows the man and his team have absolutely no understanding of how economies work!! I am dissapointed in Utomi if he has a hand in this, I thought he was more intelligent than this. If only Obi knew how much of a fool he has just made himself look in front of knowledgeable people!!

lol you think you know economics more than Peter Obi

You’re the one actually twisting the narrative. The event is a Peter Obi town hall meeting and it’s quite hypocritical to suggest that Peter Obi is not aware that such huge fees are being charged. Who are the organizers? Are they not Peter Obi’s people?

So, is this how those around him will be milking the resources of the country dry under an Obi presidency and you guys will turn around to tell us that the president is not aware?

If it is a fund raising event, why is it difficult to tag it a fund raising event? What’s wrong in coming out clearly and telling the audience the exact reason for the event? If you sincerely believe there is absolutely nothing wrong and sinister about this, then I leave you to your conscience. For those of us who think this is wrong, we shall continue to call him out for this.

Peter Obi will need to look into our education first when he becomes president, the event isn't Peter obi town hall meeting, a group hosted an event to discuss an issue and invited him as guest speaker kai, you couldn't even read properly and jumped on to swallow propaganda

People seem to quick to criticize others preference forgetting not everyone has same background and influence, I used to watch football alot but right now I really feel bored of it, few minutes of watching I might change can channel but I can stay hours watching athletics.

Football isn't only sport in the world there are many others people choose from to watch and they are passionate about it, just way you are passionate about football, watching football and having passion for it doesn't make anyone superior to other, if you go to places like India cricket is what people watch more, different backgrounds come with different choices and passion.
