Vanguard News 800 firms closed shop in 2 years – Chamber of Commerce alexsamade alexsamade 7 years ago Asaba – The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has said that no fewer than 800 companies in Nigeria closed shop between 2009 and 2011 due to harsh operating business environment. Dr Herbert Ajayi, President of NACCIMA, gave the figure on Tuesday in Asaba in a paper he presented at a zonal workshop on economic diversification organised by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). Ajayi said that more than half of the “surviving” firms had been classified as “ailing’’, a situation, he said, posed a great threat to the survival of the manufacturing industry. He added that capacity utilisation in industries hovered around 30 per cent and 45 per cent on the average, with 100 per cent overhead costs. He blamed the continued decline in the manufacturing sectors on “political and economic factors’’, citing poor infrastructure and epileptic power supply as key impediments to the industry. “The manufacturing industry as a whole operates on more than 70 per cent of energy it generates; using generators and operating these generators greatly increases the cost of manufacturing goods,’’ he said. The industrialist gave other reasons for the woes in the sector as incessant increase in the price of petroleum products used by industries, multiple taxation, unabated smuggling and inadequate access to finance, both local and abroad. According to him, widespread insecurity and the inability of government agencies in the ports to meet its 24-hour target for cargo clearance have contributed to the dwindling fortunes in the manufacturing sector. The NACCIMA president, whose speech was delivered by Mrs Mary Iyasere, Vice President of the association, described current government policies to revive the manufacturing industry as inadequate https://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/800-nigerian-companies-sank-in-2-years-chamber-of-commerce/amp/ |

Though I don’t believe most of things he said On this matter I don’t also Coz if the agitation is right It should not be against individual It should be about the system (FGN) Why the personal attack on an individual that has never attacked him personally or what he believes in ? Is he working for APC ? Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Atiku Abubakar is an “indigene” of Cameroon. Kanu stated this on Saturday during his live broadcast from London, UK. The IPOB leader further blamed Atiku for the failure of Alex Ekwueme . Kanu said: “Some of you do not understand that the person behind the failure of Ekwueme in 1999 during PDP convention was Atiku “Do you know that Atiku Abubakar is from Cameroon? His area of Adamawa was in Cameroon. Kanu, however, warned Nigerians against voting in the forthcoming 2019 election. “By voting, all you are doing is perpetuating the misery of our people. “To vote in the zoo means to endorse 1999 fraudulent constitution. By voting, all you are doing is perpetuating the misery of our people. On calling off the referendum given to Biafrans to boycott the 2019 election, Kanu called on the government to sign the document given to them. According to him, that is the only way the 2019 election would not be boycotted by Biafrans. https://www.google.com/amp/dailypost.ng/2019/02/03/atiku-cameroon-nnamdi-kanu-tells-govt-way-stop-boycott-2019-election/amp/ |

2 4' Speakership: Don’t punish us for Saraki’s ‘rebellion,’ North Central leaders beg Buhari LATEST NEWS By Taiwo Amodu - Abuja On Apr 9, 2019 Ahead of the June date for the inauguration of the 9th Assembly and election of its principal officers, certain leaders of the North central zone have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress not to punish the zone for the perceived ‘sin’ of the incumbent Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki. The duo of Senator Bukola Saraki and Honourable Yakubu Dogara, had emerged as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively of the outgoing 8th Assembly in 2015, against the party agreement which zoned the offices to the Northeast and Southwest zones. Both Senator Saraki and Honourable Dogara are from north central and northeast geopolitical zones. Further findings revealed that for the 9th Assembly, the party stakeholders have since zoned the office of Senate President to the Northeast and settled for Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan from Yobe state. There are insinuations that the position of Speaker of House of Representatives may be zoned to the Southwest while the south south would produce the Deputy Senate President. Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, the Leader of the North Central Elders’ Forum, Alhaji Muhammadu Ari Gwaska declared that the North central be allowed to produce the Speaker for the Green Chamber as he noted that the zone came second behind the North west in the volume of votes delivered to the APC presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 election. He said:”The North Central is too strategic to be relegated in the sharing of power equation in Nigeria. Since the adoption of the Presidential system of government in Nigeria, from the Second Republic to date, the Zone has continued to play a strategic role in representative government and bridge building. “Lest we forget, in the aftermath of the 2015 general elections, the Zone was ignored in the appropriation of the spoils of office when the Senate presidency was zoned to the North-East and the speakership zoned to the South-West in addition to the position of Vice President which the Zone occupies. “This resulted in a revolt! The ensuing rebellion upset the applecart by producing the current Senate President from the North Central with the northeast occupying the speakership https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/202410/ |
