Politics › Buratai: I Won’t Return To Abuja Until Boko Haram Is Defeated by sarrki(op): 6:18pm On Apr 13, 2020 |
The Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai has vowed that he will not leave the theatre of Operation Lafiya Dole until he gave a final blow on the Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast.
The Nation reports that General Buratai had earlier announced his relocation to the northeast following the pounding of the insurgents by the Chadian Army from the Lake Chad axis where the President Idris Deby is claiming to have held a section of Nigeria waiting to handover to Nigerian troops.
The Chief of Army Staff who had a special Easter celebration with the troops on Monday at Ngamdu Special Super Camp regretted that the insurgency has lasted for too long but gave assurances that in no time the Boko Haram elements will be defeated.
“We will not leave this insurgency to last like in other countries who have fought insurgency for close to 50 years. We cannot allow that to happen here”, Buratai said.
Gen. Buratai assured the troops of the support of Mr. President who he said has provided all that they need to defeat the enemies.
He also promised that he will not leave the camp until he gives a final blow on the insurgents. Read Also; It’s time to finish off Boko Haram remnants, says Buhari “You may wonder that this counter-insurgency operation has lingered for too long, we all know globally that counter terrorism is very complex. There are some countries that have fought counter terrorism for close to 50years. But we’re not going to leave it, we will not leave this camp
“We are here, we will not leave this camp until we substantially degrade these criminals. By God’s willing, we shall be there with you no going back once we commence. We will be with you in the valleys, on the hill, in the jungle, in the river and so on. As I speak now, we have some element that are providing us necessary intelligence and once we start, no going back. We are here and we make sure that we get ourselves properly motivated, properly equipped and I assure you will have the best of time.
“Some of you have been here before like two three times but I tell you are going to have the best of time. We want the best out of you. We need your courage and determination.
“I want you to have at the back of your minds that Mr. President solidly behind you. We have already started getting the consignment of what we require for us to handle these insurgency and terrorism. It a matter of time and a very short time.
“If I ask you a question, will you answer me? The question is, is anybody ready to chicken out?
A thunderous NO erupted from the soldiers and the COAS continued.
“We make sure that we never go back. Forward ever, backward, never. Thank you and God bless you all”.
Highlights of the occasion was the COAS serving food to troops as soldiers dance and celebrate the Easter https://thenationonlineng.net/i-wont-return-to-abuja-until-boko-haram-is-defeated-buratai/

Native101: Doing the appropriate thing is not in dictionary of an overwhelming majority of African leaders. As the oppressed, we are supposed to be the ones to take matters in our hands, but we are AFRAID to do the appropriate thing.
So this mess will keep going on until real people grow some balls and say enough is enough.
For example, people have been mocking Sowore for his bold move to stage a protest. Whether he was doing it for his selfish interest or not (which I don't believe to be the case, btw), he stood up to be counted when we really needed it. Someone like him , in my opinion, should have the backing of Nigerian youths who mean well for this country. But no, a lot of them sit comfy in their homes and mocked the man.
Such docile nature, ignorance, and tribalistic tendencies will continue to be a barrier to progress. My thoughts though Convid 19 already prepared us and show us the way to go If we can’t now then I wonder when we are going to |

Native101: It's pictures like these that people from the West see and conclude that Africa is really one sh!t hole. Come to think of it though, they are not far from the truth.
This continent is well and truly fvcked with illiterate, uninspiring leaders. You Absolutely right sire!!! Do we need anybody to even tell us that it is right or wrong before we do the appropriate thing? |

Related News New FIRS chairman criticizes Fowler's performance, charges staff to target 2012 revenue INTERVIEW: Coronavirus: How we'll help Nigeria fund 2020 budget - FIRS Chairman UPDATED: Fowler out as Buhari appoints new chairman for FIRS New FIRS chairman assumes office, pledges to make a difference FIRS tax revenue increases 7% in first quarter 2020 - Official The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), virtually collapsed under its previous management, its new chief has said. Muhammad Nami, who assumed office as chairman last December, said he had to “build the entire structure of the service again from scratch.” This is not the first time Mr Nami is criticising the administration of his predecessor, Babatunde Fowler. In December, while giving his first Christmas message and felicitation to the revenue agency’s staff, he accused Mr Fowler’s management of superintending a steady decline in revenue collection by the service since the inception of his tenure in 2015. Mr Nami assumed office on December 19, 2019. In a recent interview with PREMIUM TIMES and other journalists in Abuja, he said his first 100 days in office has been challenging. “It’s challenging because it appears I am having to build the entire structure of the service again from scratch in addition to meeting the huge target set for us by the federal government. “So, you can see that it is not an easy ride. But, so far I thank God that we are gradually patching things up. The members of staff have been very cooperative and supportive,” he said. He said that when he came on board, the entire structure of the agency had virtually collapsed. “So I had the daunting task of piecing together the pieces,” he said. He also said the staff are quite excited now and willing to work harder than before because he took steps to return the functions previously given to consultants back to the staff so that they can perform optimally. Fowler’s performance Upon assumption of office in August 2015, Mr Fowler introduced the use of tax consultants in the collection of tax revenues and other services, a policy brought forward from his time as the head of the Lagos State Revenue Service. Despite the controversy that trailed the use of tax consultants to carry out services thousands of regular FIRS staff were competent and qualified to render, Mr Fowler sustained the policy till the end of his tenure last December 9. Also, in August, the presidency in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, queried Mr Fowler over worsening tax collection since 2015. “We have observed significant variances between the budgeted collections and actual collections for the period 2015 to 2018,” Mr Kyari wrote in the letter, dated August 8, 2019. READ ALSO: Fowler wants tax evaders jailed, says 40,000 eligible taxpayers defaulting The query indicated that in 2015, although the FIRS set a revenue target of N4.7 trillion, it was only able to make N3.7 trillion in the actual collection. In 2016, 2017 and 2018, the presidency said from target collections of N4.2 trillion, N4.8 trillion and N6.7 trillion respectively, the actual collections were N3.3 trillion, N4.0 trillion and N5.3 trillion, respectively. In response, Mr Fowler said the query served him did not reflect all the facts. While he agreed that actual tax collection since the beginning of Mr Buhari’s administration is lower than the 2012-2014 period under former President Goodluck Jonathan, he told the presidency that the FIRS under him has performed better regarding specific non-oil tax types, such as VAT and CIT. He explained that the general lower collection since 2015 was as a result of oil market crisis which has seen a fall in commodity price compared to the period under Mr Jonathan, and recession “which slowed down economic activities.” Efforts to reach Mr Fowler to comment on this fresh criticism from his successor were unsuccessful as he did not return his calls nor reply https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/387431-firs-under-fowler-virtually-collapsed-i-had-to-rebuild-from-scratch-nami.html |
