Sometimes I Laugh when I hear people talk of APC and PDP and leave out the real issues that are the focus of a debate in an annoymous forum line Nairaland.

Don't get me wrong; I see nothing wrong with somebody just supporting Buhari's government in a presidential election just because he likes Buhari, but when I see people harp so much on the PDP/APC affliation; then I feel tempted to ask!

In the midst of all this party bickering; how many people even realise that Buhari was actually a former card carrying member of the PDP??

I guess many people - including all the juvenile political critics of the individual parties - don't even know that the only reason he left PDP for ANPP back then, which is still the same reason he left ANPP for CPC which eventually merged with other parties to form APC is because he complained bitterly that at every turn he wasn't made the party flag bearer for presidential elections!

He has always made it clear, in every political party he goes that he wants to rule this country and I believe somehow God has blessed him with that opportunity; from May 29 to December 29 will mark exactly 7 months, by december 29 his government will be 7 months old!!

It is time for the fellow to encourage his members of his kitchen cabinet to shut up and get to work and stop wasting precious time bickering over trivialities that bear no value on the lives of average Nigerians!!

Go back and read the news link u provided in your post. You misunderstood the PDP membership part.

That is why Tinubu will forever get my respect even though I am pro-pdp. whereas ids are mainly specific to a particle element.

for example, if you want to style all your divs with a particular font-family(use class( but want to style a particular paragraph with a different font(use id)

finally, id may be required in Js for specificity when using the getElementById Method

While you may be correct, I've been busy to rewrite the code after I did before I got blocked, so I just edited what he needs and repost from his post.

So I didn't study it deep down. Just corrected the errors he was facing.

Welcome back bro, while you are away I have been troubleshooting the codes, by echoing it line by line. I discovered that when I tried echoing the line mysql_num_rows($query_run); I get 0 in return. So, assume there is something wrong with the query I runned i.e. $query = "SELECT `username` FROM `user` WHERE `username` ='satmaniac'";. However hard I look at the query and the rest of the codes, I have not been able to see where I go wrong. Hence, I am counting on you guys to help me out.
This not the first time come across challenges in coding practice but for guys like you I would have given up. Thanks guys.

Hello ur script is alittle buggy cause of ur use of single and double quotes. Try this instead

$query = "INSERT INTO user VALUES('', '$firstname', '$name', '$email', '$password', '$confirmpassword', '$username',' $sex')";

The mistake u made is pputting . which means concatenation in php between the sql query will only cause problem if u dont break it will double quote like u statted with. If u started with single quote then wen u concatenate. U end each string with single also.

What is baffling me is to my untrained eyes everything seems okay, but I know something is wrong somewhere. I wish I knew what it is. This is about the 6th time I am rewriting this code. I have look at the code line by line, yet couldn't tell what is missing.

I have been following this thread for a while now, learning from others mistakes as well as the GURUS answers to the problems presented herein. The learning experience, is fulfilling I must say. Hence, I thank every contributor of this thread.
I am new to PHP or rather programming in general. I venture into learning how to code after acquiring some video tutorials online and I have been practicing coding whatever I learnt. I must confess that learning how to code is by no means an easy task, as you will make mistakes. Mistakes that a very much identifiable as well as those you can not be able to detect what is amiss in your line of codes.
The latter is what bring me here: I have created a registration form that inserts the values entered in the form fields, into a database successfully. The issue is having created this line of code to check if the username entered in the field 'username ' so as to return the string ' the username already exist' The registration still happened, instead of outputting the string 'username already exist'

Yeah, no hackers learned from school. There are tons of free online resources that will teach you anything you want to know about computer science, university or paid school is not necessary.

Then read security blogs like Krebs on Security, Bruce Schneier (cryptologist), seclists.org and start going on russian hacking forums. Get the book 'Greyhat python' you can find free ebook easily. There's also metasploit books everywhere.

If you want to set up very secure web servers, routers, firewalls, wireless ect for companies then use OpenBSD. It's free, easy to use, secure by default and in high demand if you know what you're doing, and can program in C plus script in Python/Bash. Look for ebook 'Absolute OpenBSD 2' it just came out, matches OpenBSD 5.2 release.

Hardened Gentoo w/Grsecurity patch and SElinux is another good security distribution but you have to build it all yourself.
