Jobs/VacanciesRe: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by Saved2Serve:
Here is a confluence; EHs meeets GTs. Let us keep pushing our lives like Nlng aint on our lists. Meanwhile, I have another interview on wednesday in lagos. Same oil n Gas chase. Wish me well guys!

@forkadict, can you believe up till now, Nlng hasn't reinbursed us our transfare to interview venue? Lolzz-its amazing! Things are changing and we all must never understimate the power of things going differently as expected. I dnt trust any system until the reaction is complete. Yes! They took our bank account details on a log book.

@Forkadict have you thought if EHs coming from other sectors not purely O/G will be sent on training or theey gonna leaarn on the job( OJT). Just to tell you guys, Nlng is also cutting cost and training is inclusive.

My secret advice to GTs, read n read and know the nlng plant, industry like you have worked there b4. Do this before ur interview. Eg I mean, if at interview u are asked what do you know about a compressor? Pls don't just define it and keep mute. Define it, give example, touch on its operating principle and also gv an example of compressor that an LNG baseload plant uses or can use. Don't rest your oars on " I be GT, am not expected to know this". Bros, if u dnt know it and one person knows it, ee don bizzle for u. Pls prepare like u be EH applicant.

Eg: a compressor is an isentropic device which increases the pressure of a gas or air by adiabatically reducing its volume. This device comprise of 3-types- centrifugal bla bla bla. One good example of a compresso used to run a base load LNG plant is an aeroderivative compressor.

Prove to the panel that with the slightest induction and OJT, you can hit the ground running in your new post. Training money n oversea abracadabra don dey give them headache oh! Then ask for God's GRACE.

Some folk's stupidity are just factory-fitted. You left home by 5am with a 10liter keg to queue up for fuel at the gas station; you returned home by 5pm shouting "Sai Buhari" because you got your fuel at #87 per liter. Nawa! Now I believe it that cows were also counted in our last population census.

Pre-Employment Medical – What to Expect
Pre-employment medical examinations often intimidate newcomers to the mining industry. It’s worrying to think a failed medical exam may cost you your new job before you even start. So how can you improve your chances of success? Although you can’t manipulate your medical results, you can prepare for your medical by becoming familiar with the process. Knowing what to expect will help you complete the exam to the best of your ability.

Every medical is different, depending on the role you are applying for. Your exam might include anything from straight-forward medical checks (such as blood pressure and eye tests) through to more complex fitness and psychological testing. One thing you can be certain of, you will need to complete a written questionnaire as part of every pre-employment medical.Part 1 – The Written QuestionnaireIn most cases, the written questionnaire will ask very broad questions in an attempt to gather as much information as possible. You will need to declare all your medical concerns, whether mental or physical. Also, be prepared to answer questions about your medical history as well as your current health and lifestyle.

Normally you will need to fill out the form yourself, but occasionally the medical examiner will complete the questionnaire while interviewing you.

Some common questions include:
Are you taking any regular prescription medication?Have you ever undergone a surgery?Does your family have a history of Asthma or Diabetes?Have you ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol?Do you smoke?Of course, answering “yes” to any of the above will require further explanation. Always give full and honest answers to these questions. Failure to provide true information may get you into trouble, especially if you’re unable to do your job well or if your medical condition endangers others.Part 2 – The physical exam is designed to assess your ability to fulfill the daily duties of your new role, as well as meet statutory health and safety standards of the job.

The exam itself will vary greatly depending on the job position and the employer. In mining, most new employees will undergo all the following standard physical assessments, plus a selection of optional assessments specific to the job.Standard Physical Assessments. MWHS Test – A Mine Workers Health Surveillance (MWHS) test is a hearing and lung function test. Every person employed by the mining industry is required to have a MWHS. Exactly what to expect during the hearing and lung function tests is described below.

Hearing Test – In a basic hearing test, your examiner will drop an object and watch for your reaction (as an indicator you heard the sound). More complex tests will involve listening through headphones and pressing a button whenever you hear a test sound.Lung Function Test – You will be asked to fill your lungs and blow into a tube as fast as possible until you have exhaled completely.Blood Pressure – Almost everyone has had a blood pressure check in their lifetime, so no doubt you’re familiar with the process. The examiner will wrap a fabric cuff around your arm, just above the elbow. The cuff is inflated, causing it to squeeze tightly around your arm. The examiner then measures your blood pressure via a gauge attached to the cuff while listening to your pulse through a stethoscope.

Body Mass Index – Your height will be measured and you will be weighed on medical scales. You may be asked to remove your shoes and heavy clothing before stepping onto the scales.Urine Analysis – You will be provided a sterile container and asked to provide a urine sample. In most cases, you will be allowed to use a toilet in private. Be aware, however, that some drug screening tests insist you provide the urine sample under supervision of a medical officer.Physical Fitness Test – Physically demanding jobs may require demonstrated cardio fitness. Expect to be running on a treadmill, riding an exercise bike or performing a step-aerobics test.Eye/Vision Test –

You will be required to stand a specific distance away from an alphabet-based wall chart, before reading the letters aloud.Joint Range of Motion – Your examiner may use a protractor-like measurement tool (called a goniometer) to measure how far you can flex and bend your joints. Expect to perform a series of postures and movements, straightening and bending joints such as knees, shoulders and hips. Musculoskeletal Assessment (Strength Test) – During a typical strength test, the examiner will ask you to push against resistance. For example, you may be asked to lift your arm while the examiner applies light downward pressure, pushing against your arm. Alternatively, you might be asked to walk against the examiner as he pushes against you.Spinal Assessment – Be prepared to remove all clothing except your underwear. This allows the examiner to visually assess the curvature of your spine from behind and from the side.

The examiner will usually feel your spine and back, before asking you to perform a series of movements such as touching your toes and turning your head/neck from side to side.Optional Physical AssessmentsDrug Screening (urine test) – Most drug screening tests will require the urine sample be provided under supervision of a nurse or medical officer.X-Ray of the SpineX-Ray of the ChestMRI – You may be required to undergo an MRI to assess old injuries, or to establish your pre-employment health status for record keeping and monitoring purposes.ECG – An ECG (electrocardiogram) detects heart abnormalities by measuring electrical activity of the heart. You will be “hooked up” to a measuring machine via a series of electrodes and leads placed on your chest, arms and legs using adhesive. The technician may shave hair from areas where the electrodes are to be placed.Psychological screening – Expect either one-on-one interviews, or written examinations designed to evaluate your personality, general reasoning and aptitude.Common Concerns – You’re Not AloneThere’s no need to worry about a pre-employment medical exam. The exam benefits you as much as the employer. If you’re feeling anxious, you’re not alone.

Below is a list of common concerns, with advice to help you alleviate them.
“I feel embarrassed.” People are often worried about removing their clothing or, more commonly, having to urinate under supervision. To reduce the potential for embarrassment, ensure you are wearing appropriate underwear. Choose underwear that is modest (i.e. no patterns or lace), supportive and provides full coverage. It may also comfort you to know you may request an extra person, such as another nurse or medical officer, be in the room. This makes the environment more relaxed and feels safer than a one-on-one examination.“I’m too unfit.” If you’re worried you won’t be able to complete your fitness test, start training now. Even a week’s worth of moderate walking can raise your cardio fitness, helping you feel more prepared for the test.“I’m too overweight.” An employer cannot legally deny you a job simply because you are overweight. Medical examiners are accustomed to seeing people of all shapes and sizes, so don’t be too concerned about the way you look. If you feel you are too overweight to do your job well, see your GP about beginning a weight loss program.

Informing the examiner you are on a doctor-approved weight loss program will be seen in a positive light.“I don’t want to disclose my medical condition or previous injury.” Perhaps you’re concerned a medical condition or injury will cause you to lose the job. Don’t make the mistake of not declaring the problem. You are better to lose the job than to cause an accident or cause further injury to yourself or another worker. On the DayOn the day of your pre-employment medical, get ready by following these tips:
Wear modest, supportive underwear.Bring your current photo-ID.If a fitness test is required, wear appropriate exercise clothing and running shoes. If you wear contact lenses or spectacles, bring them with you.If you’re an asthmatic, bring your Ventolin puffer.Avoid smoking 24 hours prior to the exam. This will help you perform better during lung function tests. Avoid listening to loud music (especially with headphones) 24 hours prior. This avoids temporary hearing difficulties which may impede your hearing check.

Stay Positive. It’s important not to stress over your pre-employment medical, the results of which are largely out of your control. For the best outcome, keep a positive outlook and be prepared. Be sure to enquire about the nature of your medical examinations before you arrive. Know what tests you’ll be given and how much time you should allocate on the day.

In other news, Mr President is in Iran attending the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum where they shall among other things review the current market outlook on gas and discuss strategies for boosting gas production, which for Nigeria could mean more impetus for the train 7 project. I expected oga Babs to be in the entourage but I only saw Kachikwu's name. I guess that will suffice since he's a key member of the NLNG board.

Forkdict, i am a fan of yours! In fact, your post just gave me goose pimple, but i will say something here in coming weeks. Meanwhile i have joined the waiting club of NLNG. if you don't have faith and strong will, this is one of the most difficult times psychologically. Meanwhile, @ forkadict, have you guys been reinbursed for your trans-fare to the interview venue? How long apart did it take after the interview? I just need to put 2 and 2 to deduce something. We never get anything, at least the 1k alert could have been a good pointer to something to hold unto in terms of solving the myriads of post-interview puzzles and questions buzzing up n down my head and those of my new friends.
forkadict:
My exact sentiment when we were still prepping for the interview. In fact on the first page of the EH thread was this guy (not @maxmayor) that seemed to know so much about the structure of the interview but never told us anything. In fact I sent him a mail asking for tips after reassuring him that we were not vieing for the same position. For where? The guy blanked all through.

Fast forward to a year later, I don't think he is still in the race cos if he were, he would have at least acknowledged on the thread. He struck me as a loud mouthed kinda guy.

I absolutely agree with you that this NLNG thingy is all divinely appointed and if you don't get in its not because of things you shared or didn't share prior to the interview. At least in my case, when I first saw the ad, i was like, omo, na winch these guys wan hire sha. I thot their requirements were unachievable for me and as such I didn't apply. But I thank God for a colleague of mine that God sent to continually pester me to apply. I still did not apply until the deadline expired. So during one of his pestering sessions, he asked if I applied. I told him I didn't and beside it was too late to do so at the time because the deadline had expired. That was when he told me that the deadline had been extended by a week due to network issues. But in retrospect, i think the extension was given because I hadn't sent in my application after the 2 week initial deadline expired. I eventually did and now see what God in his infinite mercies has done.

I need to tell you that I like your thought process and I really would like to be friends with you when we arrive Bonny as long as you are not the 'forming' type.

Cheers bro.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by Saved2Serve:
the same thing i met. i just lucked up and faced it with God. All that will happen has already been destined from the onset, so hoarding info or not. The chosen of the Lord must stand. That is why i even didn't care to exchange phone contacts at interview venue because after my little inquiry and chit-chat with some guys who just bagged into me trying to know where i was working (just to gauge their chances). Siege Mentality! I discovered that they all were ardent followers of nairaland NLNG threads. They come and read - gain insights and gather info but won't contribute and share their own experiences and thoughts. I left the venue solo. Let us all stick to our isolation, no need to form alliance or team till we get to bonny, that is if it is God's wish that we even get to bonny.

I learnt something in this NLNG recruitment about connecting with people on nairaland even when it seems we all are chasing one common "limited" chances of success. A guy opened a thread asking who have received an invitation from NLNG, nobody responded. I responded to the guy in affirmation. We connected offline, and it happened that he graduated from my alma mata/department, but my junior at that and he had already collected his certificate, which i never knew was ready for collection. He told me to rush to school and pick up mine by all means so as not to jeopardize my chances at interview - for it looked some how for older grad to present statement of result while he the junior presented original certificate. I had 5days to get this before interview, God helped me, i did. Guess what? at interview, one candidate who graduated from same school with us came for interview but with statement of result. He is on this nairaland, he read that thread on our recruitment, yet he chose not to respond. had he communicated on that thread, he also would have known that our alma mata have started issuing out certificates. well, he was shocked to be singled out during accreditation and questioned why his junior (me) in school came with certificate and he (older set) came with statement of result? After the interview he called me to inquire in amazement if i really graduated from same school with him. I understood his surprise because i too have done all i could to get my certificate before but it met brick wall. No man is an island. Had he connected with us on nairaland he too would have known that his certificate was ready for collection. see in this life, nobody is in competition with me. I am only competing against myself - just to strive and beat my earlier records. simple!!

what am saying in essence is, guys ripe urself of these siege mentality and that feeling that you are competing against every naira, post and land. For me, what is mine is mine. if i dont get NLNG job, it is not as a result of what information i shared or how i gave out my success secret. No!! it is because it is not saved2serve's divine choice, though it may be humanly my choice. At the end of the day, i prefer divine courses to abound for me above my humanly wishes.
forkadict:
LMAO @'maybe the panel got them to sign something or warned them about any disclosures on any social network or forum'

Truth is no one got anyone to sign anything except for your transport reimbursement.

I for one abandoned the thread when prior to the interview, no one was willing to share anything. It was an 'every man for himself' kinda thingy. Forgetting that what is destined to be yours will not pass you by.

So why will I come back to the same thread to give an account of how the interview went? The same thread i had abandoned?

But assuming the threadmates were co-operative and willing to share info prio to the interview, then I would have taken it as an obligation to feed the house back on how the whole sheet went down.

Hewww!!!! What a long walk to success. Finished by 10:43 am. At the venue, we were a total of 7 candidates from the 36 states of the country, 5 dudes and 2 damsels. Finished accreditation and validation test, proceeded to oral interview made up of the H.O.D, process engineer, HR personnel and a guy from production dept . The questions were more of technical and behavioural. After the introduction of the panel members by themselves I was asked to introduce myself. I started well and ended well. Then the H.O.D went so technical, i mean in depth. ;he fired all cylinders on all fronts, i gave him responses that made him shake head with a smile on his face as if we both attended same gas treatment training in Aberdeen. I knew the technical phrases and terminologies he was expecting to hear and I was dishing it out to him well. Never forgot my S.T.A.R approach to behavioural interview questions. rest of the interview was wonderful. I killed it by God's grace. The validation test was cool, a couple of the questions I found in the first test were repeated, i guess it was to really validate the candidacy of the previous test taker.it was just there!!! (Lol). To God be the glory, he has the final say. At the end of the day either way the pendulum swings na GODWIN.....Thank you all for your prayers.

will answer just two of your questions distinctively and others would share a generic rejoinder. OK! yes i am an EH. 'group candidacy' means i am part of the last batch of applicants currently at the farthest of the NLNG recruitment stages (dnt ask me about my 'sauce' or 'gander'). The reason why other EHs n prolly GTs are holding on for us to tie up this whole recruitment issh as a bunch.

Then all other questions of yours has this as answer, "You wanting to be certain about my assertions still does not change the fact that Nov, 30th by 5:58pm is a day to reckon. Enough of these inductive and deductive reasoning with my recruitment journey. It took forkadict way longer time than it took me. I am on my last lap just under 13months of role advert. So just keep your hope alive. Away from this bro, the expected gross remuneration for EH with 7 - 10years experience is between 18 - 25million/annum.

There's so much info embedded in this post of yours and I have many queries as well.

1. What do you mean by 'my group's candidacy?'
2.Are you coming in as experienced hire of GT?
3.How sure are you that we all will be concluded upon this November? Including GTs? They will be very much interested in this response.
4. How sure are you as well that the start of a 'new liquid life' (and I love the sound of that expression by the way) is slated for January?

Kindly respond.

Regards.
