Please whoever ask you such questions give back goofy answers. Eg: Mrs asker seeing you in the states and asks you, wow! you came to US? Your answer should be: "No i came to Burundi".......[/size]

If it's someone am not close to or someone who naturally pokes her mouth where it doesn't belong, I simply just avoid the question with a stylish smile and if the nosy person asks again (some people are that shameless) I would just jokingling say "God is the alpha and omega jare" wink

Hello House,

Please House, I need advice on how to apply for Nigerian visa for a Newborn in the US (Will get the passport in Nigeria).

I have looked at the Nigerian Immigration website and there is a link to a website where you can apply online and make payments online. I have tried this website but it hasnt been a smooth ride. I also hear you can apply by post, fill paper application and send money order.

I would like to make the application within the week please. Any advice will be appreciated

Please advice.

Thank you

curgghhh!!! coughs to clear throat. It is time for me to share my own testimony. I have been following this thread for the past 8months. This is saved2serve reporting live from chelsea hotel, central district abuja. Our (me, wife and son) visa was granted this morning at exactly 8:15am (i was checking time). The interview took barely 7mins:

We were called upon, we came close and positioned (i stood at an angle to see clearly those stuffs pasted on the wall beside them which someone mentioned on this thread-- i saw the currency converter chat and one other thing).

VO: Good morning!
WE: Good morning in succession. (my 23months old son also greeted, "good moni"
VO: How are you? (directed to my son with smile).
SON: arrr fyne! and you? (my boy pointing at the VO immediately screamed "mummy see adanna" - the name he calls his unborn sister. --- he was surprised to see a whity).
VO: Am fine (smiling harder).
VO: can i have your applications and passport?
ME: sure! ( i handed in my passport and applications to her)
VO: started typing
VO: why do u want to be in US?
ME: To have our baby
VO: have you contacted any hospital and doctor?
ME: yes! ( struggling with my envelope - to hand over my budget sheet well placed on top, followed by the mihs correspondence, bank statement with reference from my bank addressed to them, mihs maternity package plus embassy reply on my inquiry to have my baby in US).
VO: Takes the documents and said wow! (looking at the budget sheet and smiles)
VO: This is neat and appealing; are you good with MS excel?
ME: yes!
VO: prepared this yourself?
Me: Yes maam!
VO: how many months are you gone madam?
Wife: XX weeks
VO: have you been to US before?
WE: we chorused "no"
VO: where do you work?
ME: xx coy
VO: what do you do there?
ME: i am responsible for Bleep
VO: how long are you staying?
ME: i will stay 5weeks and wife and son will 10weeks
VO: where will you be staying?
ME: villa at creek apartments, phoenix
VO: typing.........(leaves with my bank statement and came back after a minute)
VO: your visa is approved, come on wednesday and pick it up. wish you lovely time in US.
WE: thanks!

pattyreal thanks for your advice to book for 7:30am. To everyone making this thread a success i salute you all.

Hey saved2serve, I understand that the SSN is supposed to be delivered to ones addy as filled in at the hospital. But in the event that it is not, pls go to the social security administration office somewhere on the same gateway blvd east road, not too far off from Intown I guess. The cab guys shd know the place . According to what the poster lizcom said, you should go with the child's bc, immunization card and one other document which i can't remember now, pls check his post to confirm. This by the way applies to Elpaso mums and dads only o
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Saved2Serve: 6:14am On Dec 02, 2014
Please can anyone say where the SSN is usually delivered or picked up?
damsell:
Hi iyawotobe it's only been a week since I had my baby so I only want to get on the county website today to check if his bc is ready or not, it as well as the SSN was filed for at the hospital the day after I put to bed and I was officially told it takes 6-8wreks but from other pple's experiences, the bc should be out in less. So I can only give you that much info about the documentation process but nevertheless, I'm expecting to smooth sail through it as I have garnered the step by step process of what comes after what from previous posts on the forum and other moms I met at Intown suites.
Talking bout Intown suites, the accommodation is ok considering the circumstances. I'm here with my mum and hubby just came to join us after I had baby and do far, so good I guess. It's generally a safe living place and really quiet and apart from some guests with really serious smoking habits, I think it's an ok place.plus there are always lots of other NAija mums n dads around so company is almost never in lack.
Some of the challenges I have personally encountered will be the transportation system. Luckily there are lots of stores around Intown like Walmart, Burlington, Ross, Payless and food places as well within walking distance but if you have to go to other stores and places in town, it's gotta be a cab and the meter rates are usually not smiling. Good thing the hospital is also close by but when it comes to processing baby's documents, it's mostly downtown which is quite a distance from Intown.
I hear ramada suites are nicer but I chose Intown cos its cheaper than ramada.
Hope I've been able to answer all ur questions.m

please is this only for houston preggies? how about other states?

I just want to chip in a bit of information to help people who will be having their babies in Houston.

- Concerning Nigerian Visa for baby.

Note; You do not need to pay any agent for your baby's Visa as I got mine within 2 days via USPS - US Posting Service

Please check the Nigerian Consulate - Atlanta website and follow the steps exactly as they are stated and provide all the required documents for processing. Having filled all necessary forms and made payment of the application fee - please print payment confirmation

Do not forget also to buy money order (I used a bank inside walmart) for the processing/ admin fees as stated

Package the completed forms, money-order, baby and parents documents, passports, don't forget consent letters etc.

Go to the nearest USPS Station with the package.

Pay for Priority Mail Express Overnight delivery - Two way so your response comes back to your address of choice (One self addressed envelope will be put in the package for this).

PoliticsFight For Nigeria’s Survival, Obasanjo Tells Youths by Saved2Serve(op): 10:37am On Dec 01, 2014
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has told youths to take up the responsibility and effect the needed change in Nigeria instead of blaming the previous generations for the nation’s decay.

The former President said this at the 100th-year anniversary of Ijero Baptist Church in Lagos on Sunday.

Obasanjo said the generation before him fought for Nigeria’s independence while his generation fought for Nigeria’s unity during the civil war.

He said the subsequent generation also fought for democracy.

Obasanjo, therefore, said it was time for the next generation to make its own contribution to national development instead of complaining.

He said, “Recently, a son of my friend looked at everything around him and got angry and went to meet his dad who is my age mate. He told his father that our generation is a lost one. The father did not pay him any attention so he came to meet me.

“He told me what he told his father and justified it by telling me that he went to the university and graduated but got no job. So, our generation has failed him. So I told him that it is normal because that was how we used to blame the generation before us.

“But I told him that the generation before mine was the one that fought for our independence. Whichever way we want to criticise them, they gave us independence. Then my generation which you say is not good, fought the civil war. We fought for the unity of Nigeria and if we did not do so, you probably would need a visa to travel to Kano or Port Harcourt. Not only that but that generation also established the foundation of democracy.

“So what do you claim your generation has achieved? It is part of it. We have seen what successive leaders of each generation have done, what can we say about you? What can we say about your generation?”

Obasanjo, who noted that he attended the Ijero Baptist Church for the first time in 1946, said that the fact that the church was still standing after 100 years was worth celebrating.

The minister in charge, Rev. Olayemi Aderibigbe, who also inaugurated the Ijero Baptist Church History Book, urged youths to continue to build on the good which the church had done over the years so as to be able to give a lasting legacy to the next generation.

PoliticsI’ll End Insurgency If Elected President – Buhari by Saved2Serve(op): 10:25am On Dec 01, 2014
A former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has promised to end insurgency and other forms of insecurity in the country, if elected President under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 general elections.

The pledge is coming amidst rising insurgency by the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the North-East and especially the Friday’s attack on Kano Central Mosque

He also denied sharing money to delegates during his recent visit to Imo State during his nationwide tour to meet the APC delegates.

The Head (Media, Publicity and ICT) in Buhari Support Organisation, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, stated this in his weekly brief on “GMB meet the party delegates nationwide tour,” read to journalists on Friday in Abuja.

“At no time did GMB, all through this meet the delegates tour, share money or lobby any delegate with money. As we all know, a leopard can never change its spot. Friends and sympathisers may have privately encouraged their colleagues to attend the delegates’ meeting, certainly not GMB directing or approving any monetary exchange, as being falsely reported by some online media,” he stated.

In his nationwide tour to meet delegates, Buhari had visited Abia, Bayelsa, Imo, Delta, Cross River and Rivers states, where Governor Rotimi Amaechi described him as a committed and focused leader whose watchword was integrity.

Maduekwe said, “The summary of all the response and the welcoming remarks by GMB at various state capitals can be summarised. He made it clear that this country must first be secured and efficiently and effectively managed if our nation is to bounce back to normalcy for our people to prosper. Leadership integrity must be the focused watchword if we must salvage Nigeria once again.

“We recall that we fought a civil war without borrowing a kobo. But now, despite budgeting well over 25 per cent of the national annual budget to defence, we are borrowing $1bn to prosecute insurgency. Yet, all we keep hearing is the low morale of our fighting forces as they melt before the rampaging ill-trained insurgents.

“A situation where about 20 LGAs of this country are under an alien flag can no longer be tolerated. APC is ready to turn the tide to bring Nigeria back into the fold of proud and respectable community of African nations. Our watch-word is: Securing our nation, prospering our people.”

He added, “One is worried to read about Nigerian soldiers giving interview to foreign media on how under-equipped they are as they face the insurgency. Effort by the National Assembly to conduct hearing on such sad development is hushed down. Same as the NASS hearing on the subsidy scam which till this date has remained a mystery to our general public.”

Buhari has also asked Nigerians to make sure their votes count during the 2015 general elections.

Buhari spoke at a reception organised for him at the APC secretariat in Enugu State on Saturday evening, where he observed that soldiers engaged in the campaign against terrorism and insurgency had complained of inadequate weapons, despite the huge security budget, as well as lack of effective leadership.

“Vote and make sure that your votes count,” Buhari told the gathering, including leaders and members of the APC state chapter as well as national delegates from the state.

He urged eligible voters to obtain the permanent voter card, which he described as the “ammunition” to rout the Peoples Democratic Party during the election.

The presidential aspirant noted that there was no point in asking the people to come out to meet him if they did not have voter cards.

Stressing the need to vote out the PDP in the coming polls, Buhari said 2015 would be a very crucial year for Nigeria.

congrats phema. please which bag did you keep the frozen red oil? checked-in bag or hand luggage?
Phema:
Tips and lessons learnt

-Most foods are allowed. All you need do is dry them properly. I went with any and everything you can think of. Apart from meat. My friend even came with fried snail. They saw it and didn't flinch. Just dry or fry them and make sure your beans does not have any weavle or insects.

-Know exactly what you are doing and be armed with info as regards your trip. It helps to be very confident and not look ill prepared at any point.

-Do not go with a heavy hand luggage. I will advise you have a very small shoulder purse where you can put your money and phones. And then a small carry-on rollable/trolley bag for other items. This is easier to move with as all u need do is roll. I went with a bag I couldn't roll and had to carry on my shoulders all through. If not for the wheelchair services, e for no funny at all.

-For bush people like moi that donot like airline food, please go with snacks in your hand luggage. I had bread, biscuits, plantain chips, coconut chips, meat pie, sausage roll, doughnut etc. These came in handy during the whole trip especially during my 9hr lay over at Heathrow. Just kept requesting for juice, water and drinks and was jejely eating my snacks. They managed to serve us what looked like jollof rice on our Lag - Heathrow leg. As the saying goes "if e no be panadol, e no fit be like panadol" grin

-Request for wheelchair services if you are far gone and will be transiting at a busy and huge airport. You will be glad you did.

-Weigh your bags before leaving the house. It helps to avoid unnecessary hitches.

-If you can, plan your trip together with a friend who will be due at almost same time. Not only does it kill boredom, it also reduces cost as both if you will go for appointments together, shopping and all. Reduces cab fare by half.

Will update as I remember. . .
