We been there . Settle a case to prevent further harrassment. When you have an attorney billing you by the hour,you paying for his accomodation if he is from another state in an expensive hotel , you can easily go bankrupt if you do not have deep pockets.
Many DAs and Prosecutors use the threat of bankrupting someone so that you take a plea deal , which adds to the prosecutors wonderful or rather successful conviction rates. Prosecutors are after having a 100% conviction record which aids in their vertical mobility within the justice system
