baralatie: As in the whole Russia is turned upside down right now An amendment to the amendment
The war is really going to drag even after the annexation. The West has said they won't stop arming Ukraine and would not recognize any other boundary than the one Ukraine currently has and are ready to continue arming Ukraine. How many more Russians and Ukrainians are going to sacrifice their lives for a war of ego. 100s of thousands more I guess.
BentizilL: You should stop acting like this, how on earth will you say China and Russia is not a first world country... You can be against them but you should learn to be truthful with yourself..
See how you're acting like an hypocrite..
How am I acting like an hypocrite. Can you help this thread with a link to back up the false claim someone made in the front page?
jimetagambo: Professor poisonedAppleyard. Why are you dodging the question? Help your fellow putards with a link or proof.
Your Nkita made the claim about China being a first world country not us. Help us to back up his claim with proof. Else his claims are moot, null and void. I believe you have seen the walls of a university even if it's in a shithole country like our Nigeria. I don't want to believe our colleges and universities are that bad.
100%. When Peter Obi makes a claim, he says: go and verify.
When threads are created on Nairaland, the least you can do is to add a link so that it can be verified. It's not too much to ask for.
Pierocash: you are the monkeys here. What is the definition of a first world country according to science? A first world country is a country that is fully developed ,and advanced, industrialized, and economically strong, that is the definition of a first world country ,not what msm led by US calls it. Ewu
Tmberwolf1: Wake up, coups happen anywhere in the world... Especially in corrupt countries with brutal autocracy and dictatorship... Read your history.
Pierocash: You better go to China for brain surgery so you can keep been fooled.
So if US calls you a goat and they put it in media ,picked by Google, then you become a goat. What kind of self inferiority mentality is this. Isn't this mental slavery?
You could start by smashing your American android device on a wall.
Show us a link from whatever browser you use or an academic journal claiming that China is a first world. Perhaps, it's just facts you pulled out of your arse.
Mind you, like I said earlier, insults doesn't change facts.
Pierocash: You don't pass exams based on Google search. Google is owned by msm controlled by US led NATO. Not every thing in Google is correct.
What made Nato countries first world but China second, because US called them so? Una need mental evaluation. A country even more advanced than the entire Nato is second , while Scandinavian European countries are first world. Ode
All you do is insult. You have got nothing in your brain.
In Nigerian universities, China is more advanced that NATO and Japan. Clown
basilico: Fossil fuel is obviously limited in supply. There is however large amounts of untapped reserves across the world .. Shale oil is one which has led to America being the largest producers of shale oil n gas. Unfortunately activists worry about contaminating the ground water and have sought to ban it in toto. ME countries OPEC rather have generous welfare benefits for their citizens such that they want oil priced higher. A shale oil producer was interviewed saying he could theoritically get to $30 per barrel . Russia and OPEC may have been funding these activists. UK also has plenty of shale but the Environment activists wont let them exploit it till Putin shuts down gas in total. Tesla is a business. With $18B first quarter sales this year, more people on the waiting list makes Elon Musk the richest in the world. Other vehicle companies will not be left behind because the demand is there. At one point the law of diminishing returns (Units vs Energy ) will catch up, fixing a date when cars sold will be only EV is good business for everyone , although I think the mega corps .. GM, Toyota etc will have the last laugh with the internal combustion engines.
That Org does not need storage power . Its aim is to go green and reduce electricity bills, A 30KW storage system is pretty expensive . Theoritcally they could sell power back to the grid I am not sure if Uganda has that arrangement or maybe Uganda has surplus capacity and dont need buy backs from Independent Power Producers.
China and India are concerned about lifting as many as possible from poverty. China is more concerned with dominating the world as a Superpower. China is the largest Solar and Wind Power producer in the world. Ditto coal ... I also think hydro is quite big there.
At the rate global decisions are made, countries sign on to them and then implement them Bugs will be touted as the next big thing. We have been forced to get covid jabs, do away with some refigerators, Set max shower tap diameter, boycott Russia , sell bananas to EU which are only of some shape and size ... This to me has the makings of some elites who think they know better than us and are determined to interfere in our daily lives. There is a lot about cow farts,,, If you care to read Alexandria O Cortez Green New Deal , cow farts contribute to Global warming.
EV is here to stay I do not dispute that. For hydrogen fuel cars there is a growing research towards them , I have not had so much time to look at them The speed at which the West is running at getting rid of fossil fuels under climate crisis seems suspect to me. As a feel good Germany stopped nuclear power plants and right now they have two on standby whereas their power costs have gone up. The projections are based on computer models which surprisingly were not correct to predict the last 20 years global temperatures. Data fed into a computer can churn out different results, these are pure predictions on upcoming events. There is a level of absurdity I find because everything is blamed on GW. Fires in California are more because of GW yet some people were arrested starting fires in some places and the undergrowth was not all cleared.
Thanks for the contribution. Have to go to bed now. Will catch up on the thread later.
ponyonm: The main argument started with him claiming 2 missiles destroyed four drones at once and when we tried to explain to him that it was possible, he said they were flying together in parallel lines and I said it's not possible to fly four of those drones in parallel lines cos of the risk of collision and signal interference and he said when one drone exploded, it went to hit another one to detonate it, which is pure bullshit. Even when they are used as swarming drones, it's not possible to hit more than one drone with one missile as the others aren't in static mode. We've seen several videos of AD missiles hitting drones in this conflict and no missile has ever knocked out 2 drones together in one hit.
Ps:
Also the Iranian drones can be remote controlled. Human factor is significant in such cases.
Also we do not know if 4 were flying in parallel, or whether 2 or 4 were flying parallel in a stacked formation, or even whether they were in groups of 2 at different locations.
We did not see the video just as we don't see the video of every combat in the ongoing war or military operation or whatever name we call it; hence, we can't tell what really happened. A "news" was reported. It's left for us to believe or not believe. Both sides Russia and Ukraine have not been 100% truthful with the news they report.

ponyonm: It depends on the kind of drone. The Turkish bayraktar TB2 launches from a runway. Same with some of the Russian orlan drones. Copter drones and DJi commercial drones improvised and strapped with explosives do not need to launch from a runway. However, the contention is that they cannot be flying together in parallel lines at the same time cos of the risk of collision and signal interference.
The drone in question here is the Iranian drone which does not need a run way. I was just correcting that point you made.
Whobedatte: Yeah ..however It pisses me off that there could be a military coup in China or mobilisation in Russia and we will have no information about it, but someone farts in White House or UK parliament and it's everywhere
Cos the Western media are more open or transparent compared to say North Korea or Russia or some other similar countries.
okeysoninv: shut up, is the drones not carrying an explosive material. go and find out how explosive material detonates. so far the 4 drones are flying closer to each other one impact will affect the other. the drones is likely a suicide drones.
It does appear the Iranian drones can be used in swarming mode as seen below:
Whobedatte: Is this news correct? But if its true then its nightmare for Beggar #Pakistan and Russia
The PLA has taken control of China. Xi put under house arrest. General #LiQiaoming is the new president. #XiJinping is responsible for instability in Asia, spl its #Taiwan policy &
ponyonm: I know. I'm just even trying to assume that was the case with his logic which isn't even remotely possible. Even during exhibitions sef, they can't be flown side by side cos you can't really have them all take off from the runway at the exact time and speed.
A drone doesn't need a runway to take off though. I believe the Iranian drone launcher can launch multiple drones at once. See pics below
basilico: 1. These oil and EV megacorps are using a lot of money for research. They know very well fossil fuel demands will forever increase so slashing a part of the revenue to fund a department which might return a profit or not is another way they avoid paying too much taxes.
And they also get subsidies from the Federal Govt to boot. Out of the research money allocated some of it goes to paying salaries for the researchers who are most likely involved in the normal vehicle production eg An assembly line fully automated can be developed for the EVs under the research tax deductible grants and deployed across the other fuel guzzling vehicle production lines.
2. I hope you also realize that whenever one has solar/wind power there is always a standby power plant. I'll relate my experience of a 32 KW private solar farm in Uganda. Uganda is along the equator which means the sun is on average at least 8 hours a day when its not raining. The setup there is that the org gets normal hydro power . The solar farm is on grid meaning it works in conjuction with the mains. Has a smart Inverter that determines how much power is needed, it reduces the amount from the mains its generating at the moment and supplies from the solar. It does not feed back to the grid when there is excess power from the solar. There were no batteries for the solar. If no solar at all rest is mains. If solar is generating it deducts that from the mains. (It does this by negative feedback ) At times the mains input is literally zero when there is no activity and the solar supplies everything. Rare thing. On a cloudy day the output from the solar farm falls to as low as 3Kw. Note the solar farm has about 160 panels In a country straddling the equator Yet solar is not sufficient. On full load the Power input is around 100KW , shedding an average of 20-25 Kw saves the org quite some money per month. I sure do hope the org qualifies for Carbon credits for its generous contribution to going green Never mind that its mains is purely hydro. In other words you cannot depend on solar to manufacture. Let alone supply a few hundred homes
3. At the same time the extraction of Lithium and Cobalt is a pretty disruptive business, activists have shut down production in Western economies over environmental concerns. Yes those who think power comes from the wall socket. China does not care about environment they mine these battery components without any opposition from their green energy activists.. most are in exile. China also mines a lot of cobalt from Zaire.
4 The whole war on fossil fuels is futile . We have heard that we only have so many years to reverse Global Warming hence the need to switch to green energy, In the process of switching fertilizers need to be reduced ( cause a famine?) , livestock culled because of cow farts, switch to bugs ( I post a video of a bug eating high school dropout celeb) for our protein needs. Add in gender to the mix , how it mixes with GW is a mystery. Gender inequities are discussed as a cause of the climate crisis, with their eradication, with women as leaders, as key to a sustainable future The whole GW crusade goes beyond oil into micromanaging people's lives.
Nicole Kidman (8.5m IG followers) eating very yummy living bugs If A celeb can eat live bugs so can WE.
1. Fossil fuel is limited in supply. I do not think Tesla is in the business of EV because of subsidies it expects from government. Subsidies or tax breaks are a plus, but that won't be the sole reason they spend billions on research. Infact, the billions of dollars these mega oil companies and EV cooperation spend on research dwarfs any meagre subsidy expected from Gov. General Motors is investing nearly US$7 billion in the state to convert one factory to build electric vehicles and construct another to make batteries. That's huge. Note revenue after tax (minus subsidy or tax break) for GM was about $5B in 2019.
2. Uganda needs to visit Texas to study how they are now the US leading renewable energy producer for 2 years in a row. I don't know why they do not have storage, energy is being wasted when it can't be stored and can't be fed back to the grid. Infact, the major selling point of solar energy companies in the US is that you can sell back to the power companies.
As I earlier said, technology or advancement in tech is not stagnant. Who would have thought mobile phones could reduce so much in size from the ugly giant beast they were in 1995ish to the ultra slim device they are right now with much more smaller batteries with larger storage capacities. So companies not running 100% on solar or wind does not mean they won't be able to do so 50 years from now. Lithium or cobalt batteries might even be phased out in the next decade. NiCad for example did not even last up to 10 years before getting dumped just like the giant laser disc of a few years ago.
3. China or India might not care right now but they will catch up later. It's not a race to the bottom but a race to the top. India has one of the dirtiest and poorest air quality in the world. Sooner or later, the cost of healthcare from lung or respiratory system will catch up with them as well.
As per the cow fat, those are crazy environmentalist. I love my steaK dinners and I do not think cow farts would be that large enough to cause any significant damage to the ozone layer. After cowfart, are they going to target plant giving out c02 next?
4. Like I said earlier, we may argue all we want on Nairaland or elsewhere, EV tech is here to stay. Check out Toyota maria below. It mostly uses hydrogen fuel cell. More storage and less weight than the 100% Lithium ion we find in the likes of Teslas. Research and advancement in tech can produce wonderful results
Finally, to be honest, I am not a climate change warrior or champion. I just go with the flow of technology. I am fascinated by them. You are lucky to work in an industry where you get to see the beauty of semi conductors live in action.
benalvino3: A) do you know how heavy tesla cars are because of their batteries?
B) making a plane based on batteries will not work. Jet-fueled planes get lighter as they fly. The same cannot be said about electric planes. which should be a lot more heavier
A) Of course, I know how heavy electric cars are. A few 100kg heavier than it's non electric model. Case study Ford Mustang vs Ford Mustang Mach+ E, but technology is not stagnant.
B) Are you saying this plane in my screenshot below won't fly or AirCanada is just wasting it's time?
If we shout and argue from now till tomorrow, EVs and battery techs are here to stay. Automobile Companies going full EV and oil companies spending billions of dollars on clean energy won't stop investing their time and money on it. GM made an announcement today that they would completely stop making Petrol and diesel cars by 2035. This is the biggest American automobile company and top 3 in the world I think. TotalEnergies is spending around 57% of its research and development budget of $1 billion for 2022 on clean-energy technologies.
Battery Tech would also get better. Do you know how poor and heavy batteries were before lithium ion was discovered? I still have some NiCad batteries which is still considered a recent tech, and now they already look achaic to me and doesn't hold much charge compared to lithium ion which is now mainstream. Lithium ion would also be replaced by another tech. Scientists are already looking into hydrogen fuel cells (has more storage capacity and lighter) and other future energy storage technologies. Toyota introduced an hydrogen fuel cell vehicle this year.
I am sure people would have also argued in the past that electric cars can never work, or the Wright brothers were wasting their time trying to get some wood and cotton fabric glued together into the sky.
Ibime: Israel has to tread carefully cos the way Russia is cosying up to the Iranians is caue for concern for Israel
Now that the drones have tasted battle with a good number hitting it's target, the drones will eventually find their way to the hands of Iran backed Hezbollah.
