One of the lessons learned during 2020 is perhaps there’s not enough value prescribed toward stability. The previous calendar year was marked by one turbulent month after another. The coronavirus pandemic continues to alter most aspects of daily life across the country. End Sars protests, Kidnapping and robberies in the southern states, and civil unrest is found throughout the entire country. The job market shrank dramatically early in the year, and now seasonal changes may further affect the outlook.

If you’re looking to get back on solid ground and find a way to ensure a productive career, heavy equipment training can offer you a way back to stability.
Despite the damages from bad governance, the changing seasons, and the unsure nature of just about everything at the moment, you can be sure of one thing: "builders will still be needed".
And heavy equipment operators will remain a steady backbone of that industry. Whether it’s improving infrastructure projects, rebuilding damaged homes and property, hauling goods and materials to where they’re needed, or mining the raw materials to rebuild, heavy equipment operators will be needed in the future to make sure all the jobs get done.

That’s why we offer extensive opportunities to get hands-on experience as part of your education (Work Based Learning). You don’t want your first day on the job to also be your first day in a machine! With our heavy machinery operator classes, you’ll be able to work out the kinks and get comfortable with the equipment before setting out on your own.

*Course Outline

*Health & Safety Practices
*Personal Protective Equipment
*Safe Workplace Inspection

On-the-Job Training (Experienced Instructors)

On-the-job training allows students and apprentices the opportunity to gain work experience under the supervision of a licensed operator. Instruction may begin with simulated programs. Once beginners are familiarized with equipment operation, they may start operating bulldozers and forklifts in designated practice areas.

* Half of your time with us will be dedicated to training in the field, performing tasks like designed lifts, setting up cranes, and practicing smooth operating techniques, tandem lifts, blind lifts, tower erections, boom assembly, rigging, and signaling. You’ll also have the opportunity to train with multiple types of cranes, forklifts and other machines. This includes rigging loads with hook-block, or drag-line attachments.

INVEST IN YOUR CAREER!

* After school, you’ll be forced to make choices between spending time on qualifications and getting work experience. There’s a disconnect today between the skills you get at school and university, and the skills you need in your job.

* Our education isn’t giving us what we need to do our jobs well anymore. So, if you have a good first degree, choose work experience. Never turn an internship down because learning how to work in teams and how to collaborate are crucial skills that you can’t learn in school.

* You need to be a mile deep. A lot of people you meet can talk about a lot of things but they don’t have a firm foundation in many of them. The problem with that is that they can’t deal with things when they become complex.

* You need deep technical expertise in something. It’s tempting to be a generalist when you start your career, but you need at least one area where you’re a specialist. It could be Heavy machinery operations.

*Get qualified in no time and become a Professional heavy machinery operator today, available lucrative opportunities in the ports, warehouses, manufacturing, production and in the oil and gas.

There is much more to heavy equipment operating than you might think. Crane operator Kingsley Edokun, says, “it’s just amazing how those machines are so powerful, what [operators] can do with them … it’s not a day at the office, I tell you.”

Why should you consider getting a heavy equipment certificate? Well, heavy equipment jobs are going to grow by 5% from 2014-2024 and you might even find yourself landing a contract to work on a multi-million dollar project. No matter where you end up, the jobs will be there. While doing your initial research, consider the location’s cost of living versus what you will earn. Salaries will vary from state to state and city to city.

Check out some of the powerful machines you could be operating with a heavy equipment certificate:

* Mobile crane operator: N900,000/ annum
Sample Tasks: Carrying a broken car to a tow pound & moving a large load of material between working sites.

*Welding Inspector (Certified); ₦4,000,000/ annum
Sample Tasks: Inspect weldments to determine if they meet specifications and material standards.

* Excavator operator: N600,000/ annum
Sample Tasks: Retrieving an object out of the mud & demolishing a house.

* Reachstacker operator: N900,000/ annum
Sample Tasks; Operate the machine equipped to move containers and stack around a warehouse, storage yard, factory, construction site, or similar location.

*Rubber tyred gantry crane operator; N1,100,000/ annum

Mastering a variety of skills can be a distinguishing mark of an individual in this era of competition, multiculturalism and globalization.

About

Ask yourself...

• Could you operate large machinery?
• Can you work as part of a team on a busy job site?
• Do you have good communication skills?
• Can you listen and follow instructions?
• Do you have good judgment?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator could be right for you.
Heavy equipment operators operate heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, airports, gas and oil pipelines, tunnels, buildings and other structures, in surface mining and quarrying activities and in material handling work.
They are employed by construction, pipeline and logging companies, and by heavy equipment contractors.

Duties
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, your duties may include the following: Operating heavy equipment such as cranes, excavator, forklift, payloader, back-hoes and bulldozers to lift, move or place equipment or materials, Inspecting, cleaning, lubricating and refilling equipment.
Heavy equipment operators use different types of equipments: cranes, excavator, forklift, payloader, back-hoes and bulldozers back-hoes, bulldozers, front-end loaders and graders. Some operators work with several types of equipment while others choose to specialize:

Work Condition
The standard work week for heavy equipment operators is 40 hours (8 hours a day, 5 days a week). As with many careers in construction, there are peak periods that will require you to work overtime. The number of additional hours you work each week depends on the construction sector and region you work in, and will vary from one job to the next.
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will work outdoors on construction sites. You will work closely with other equipment operators and with ground crew.
As with all careers in construction, safety is the top priority. Heavy equipment operators are trained to work safely and take special precautions to protect against injury.

Training and Certification
Even where certification is voluntary, it is still recommended, as it tells employers and other workers that you are a skilled professional and it also helps you get jobs. To keep their skills current, Heavy Equipment Operators must keep up with new technologies by reading and speaking with others in the field.

Career / Heavy Equipment Operators: The Importance Of Certified Safety Training by sayhi2eq: 4:09pm On Nov 23, 2020
Industrial rigging and dismantling projects require the use of at least one if not several pieces of heavy machinery including cranes, forklifts, excavators, aerial lifts and more. Operating heavy equipment is no easy task. If employees are not trained properly, it can lead to numerous problems for your project and your business. This is why it is so important for heavy equipment operators to go through certified safety training before starting the job.

Certification Required

Whether you’re operating a crane or a forklift, all heavy equipment operators must be professionally certified to operate heavy machinery. It lets people know that you understand safe operating practices and have the qualifications necessary to complete the job safely and efficiently. Not having your certification can lead to penalties and fines. Heavy equipment operators should always carry their certificate and operator license cards on them in the event of an on-site accident.

Safety First

Safety needs to be your number one priority on the job site. When forklift, crane, or aerial lift operators don’t go through the proper training, they do not understand all of the possible hazards that come with operating heavy machinery. Proper training teaches heavy equipment operators how to avoid overhead hazards, protect against falls, prevent damage to equipment, and how to keep themselves and those around them safe from harm. Accidents and employee injuries can easily be avoided with the proper safety training.

Save Money with Efficient Operations

If an accident does happen on the job site because of improper training, it can significantly add to the overall cost of the project. Accidents can cause pieces of equipment to break, forcing you to purchase replacement parts or, in severe cases, a brand new piece of equipment. When operators go through thorough training, they understand how to avoid these accidents. Also, they know how to handle the equipment properly so that minimal maintenance is needed to keep them up and running on a regular basis.

Heavy equipment operators who go through certified training courses are not only taught how to operate equipment safely but efficiently as well. They know exactly how each aspect of the machine works, allowing operations to run as smoothly as possible. If an employee is not familiar with the technical aspects of the heavy equipment they’re operating, it can take them twice as much time to complete a job, as opposed to an employee who has been properly trained. Well trained employees get the job done safely in the quickest way possible, helping to ensure that your project stays on schedule and under budget.

Equilog Training Institute will train you on various types of heavy equipment's, qualifying you for a great job. The opportunities in this field are excellent for properly trained individuals. Demand for qualified heavy equipment operators shows strong, consistent growth. For qualified operators, this means job security, diverse employment opportunities, great benefits, retirement plans and steady compensation.

For qualified operators, this means job security, diverse employment opportunities, great benefits, retirement plans and steady compensation.

The construction, forestry, strip mining, conservation, land clearing, utilities and other industries are not going to employ untrained or unskilled people to operate these costly machines. And so, the need for qualified heavy equipment operators never ends. The person who successfully completes a high-quality training program in this field should have a good future. Because of this, our Heavy Equipment Operator Graduates are generally fully employed in this field soon after graduation.

Construction is the largest service industry in Nigeria, the United States, Canada, Australia, Dubai and it is growing fast, with more roads, houses, apartments, and office buildings being built every day – and plenty more on the drawing boards. Contractors and construction firms have a constant need for qualified heavy-equipment operators, to help build all these highways and structures. Heavy equipment operators and small earth-moving contractors also work in the utilities industry, including telephone, electric, gas, and water companies.

There is no more important occupation in developed and developing countries than the heavy equipment operator. Without these people, we would have very limited roads, dams, bridges, housing, flood control, and very little mining, land clearing, conservation, landscaping, reclamation, land filling, logging, or pipelines.

We are here to guide you towards achieving the necessary skills that will help you reach your goal — obtain not just a job, but a career!

While unskilled immigrants produce many benefits for better-off residents in a country, they tend to reduce the wages the un-skilled native population can earn. They also tend to increase inequality and barely raise the return on capital.

Skilled immigrants, on the other hand, while directly lowering the wages of the skilled native population by a small amount, also raise the income that can be earned on capital. They are consequently worth roughly 10 times as much to the average household as an unskilled immigrant.

Career / Future Of Work! Career In Heavy Machinery Operation. by sayhi2eq: 2:42pm On Nov 03, 2020
MACHINES OF THE FUTURE

Long time ago in the old empires, when constructions needed to be made or heavy lifting needed to be done, slaves or animals had to be used. This process was tedious and inhumane as the slaves were pushed to work till they dropped and they died by the thousands.
But in the late 6th century BC, that changed when the ancient Greeks invented the first heavy lifting machine, although it needed to be operated by a lot of people, it eased the strain on humanity.

But welcome to the 21st century where there are machines like the crane, forklift, excavator, bulldozer, reach stacker, tractor, pay loader that work faster, safer, and efficiently than animals or human labor.
These machines like every other inventions have eased the strain on humanity, eradicated (not totally) the need for manual labor as it requires only one well trained person to operate a machine that can do a job that could have taken 2000 tired, exhausted humans 6 months to do , and they have also increased work output, duration of projects, safer workplace, and more revenue is generated.

These machines have evolved alongside humanity and will continue to do so because our society depends on industries like mining, construction, production, import and export, oil and gas to function. These industries in turn make use of heavy machines in their day to day operations.

Jump on this train! Learn how to operate these machines and be a part of mechanical evolution!

Learn this skill! Be the man behind the wheels of the big machine!

WHY TRAINING IS IMPORTANT!

Working Around Heavy Equipment

Background

75% of construction related “struck by” and “run over” fatalities involve heavy equipment. Heavy equipment, such as cranes, excavators, forklifts, dump trucks, and pay loaders are an essential part of construction. All ground-based workers should remain outside of the working area of heavy equipment while the machine is in operation. This working area is also known as the “danger zone.” Before working around heavy equipment, you should know the potential hazards and how to avoid them!

Heavy Equipment Danger Zones

Unless it is essential to the task, all personnel should stay away from all sides of heavy equipment while it is in use. Danger zones include (but are not limited to):
*Blind spots and/or areas of limited visibility
*Rotating machinery
*Swing radius
*Travel path
*Under suspended or overhead loads
*Overhead hazards (i.e. overhead utility lines, and overhead piping/cable trays, etc.)
*Working over or around existing underground facilities
*Close proximity of moving equipment

Safety Tips

Safely working in the areas of any heavy equipment requires that shared responsibility of both the equipment operator and their coworkers. Unsafe practices by either the operator or those around the equipment can create very dangerous situations. Serious injuries can occur if the equipment strikes a worker, or if the equipment is rolled over. Here are a few common safety rules for operators and ground based workers to consider:

*Inspection of the equipment prior to operation to ensure that all lights and audible alarms are working properly
*A defined route and clear visual path for the operator when moving equipment from the point of origin to the work site
*Heavy equipment must have a rollover protective structure (ROPS)—ROPS is designed to protect the operator if the machine tips over
*Use 3-point mounting and dismounting technique off of heavy equipment—NEVER JUMP OFF HEAVY EQUIPMENT
*Maintain a clear line of site between the operator and workers. *Blind spots are common. If you can’t see the operator, they can’t see you
*Wear high visibility clothing and Personal Protective Equipment
*Never work under a suspended or overhead load
*Watch for shifting or unstable loads and working surfaces

Many times, when workers think the can be seen by the operators of heavy equipment they can’t. You may be in a blind spot or the operator has been driving in a designated travel path for a period of time and the only thing that has changed is you!!!!! May eye contact with operators!

Career / Top 6 Safety Tips by sayhi2eq: 12:52pm On Aug 24, 2020
What should be covered in a driver forklift training course?

Basic Operations
All of the controls of the forklift will be fully demonstrated in the operator training. Drivers will be able to ask questions and have any elements that are unclear clarified.

Identifying Malfunctions
With awareness of basic operations, the driver will also be able to identify if/when there is a problem with one or more of the forklift’s components. These issues can then be appropriately addressed and the risk of accidents due to forklift malfunction will be reduced.

Retaining Balance
One of the most common, dangerous and deadly forklift operator accidents is when a forklift tips over. Some of the crucial elements of avoiding this type of accident include:

Keeping the load as low to the ground as possible.

Manage elevated loads appropriately to avoid tipping over.

If the forklift does tip, never attempt to jump off it. Staying buckled up and on the forklift shows a higher rate of survival and a lower rate of injury than attempting to jump from it.

This training will also include education on how basic physics work and basic forklift load management based on these principles.

Knowledge of Best Practices:

Lower forklift accident rates for a range of companies are linked with a driver’s keen awareness of the best practices when using the machine. Some of the most important forklift operator best practices include:

Always wearing the safety belt.
Keep forklift always within safe speeds for the job and the machine.
Use the horn while backing up or approaching blind spots.
Keep loads at least 152mm off the floor.
Maintain optimal visibility at all times.
Use a spotter if visibility is temporarily impaired in the work area.
Don’t overload the forklift’s listed capacity.
Have equipment serviced regularly.
Replace old, inefficient equipment with state of the art machinery that has the latest in safety features.
Safety benefits for your workplace

While all drivers must have a license from a RTO, implementing a comprehensive forklift driver safety training course we (Equilog) can help your enterprise to be as safe and efficient as possible in the warehouse or on the work site. In addition to the obvious safety benefits, providing in-house training to your employees will mean your business will have:

More proficient workers
Cleaner operations
Greater productivity
Less down time
Increased equipment life
Less property damage

A good foundation to forklift safety training can be acquired here with us at Royal Building Office KM 25 Lekki Epe Expressway Ajah. Opposite Fidelity Bank. 09095348635

Car Talk / Knowledge Base As A Forklift Operator Best Skill To Acquire by sayhi2eq: 12:33pm On Aug 24, 2020
You would think forklift safety training and forklift licenses would be a given for all businesses. After all, operating a forklift is fairly a dangerous work. Forklifts are large pieces of machinery with a number of moving parts and quite a bit of power. While they make many tasks much easier, there is a high risk of injury and property damage if something goes wrong during forklift operation.

Forklifts can cause damage when items slip off the tyres or become torn or punctured by them. This can cause the loss of product as well as the spillage of solvents, chemicals or other hazardous substances. Forklift operator error and accidents cost time and money. They may also result in injury or even death. Around 28.5% of all workplace fatalities are caused by a falling or tipping forklift load, and around 34% of worker fatalities in 2015 were drivers of heavy machinery. These operator errors also cause a stunning 2 billion dollars in damaged products per year.

Forklift injuries cause around 85 fatalities and 35,000 serious injury accidents per year. Averaging all stats for both serious and minor injuries, this means that well over 10 percent of all forklift users will be involved in some kind of accident in the coming year.

The most common causes of fatal forklift accidents include:

The forklift tipping over and crushing the operator: 42%
Crush injury between the forklift and a surface besides the ground: 25%
Crush injury between 2 forklifts: 11%
Being struck or run over by a forklift: 10%
Struck by falling material being carried by a forklift: 8%
Falling from a forklift platform: 4%
When it comes to fatalities from forklift accidents, over 42% occur during the manufacturing process. This is not surprising due to the prevalent use of forklifts in this industry.

Close to 24% of major forklift accidents occur in the construction industry, 12.5% in the wholesale trade industry, 11% in the transport industry, 9% in retail trade and just over 1% of forklift accidents occur in the mining industry.

Forklift Operator Training Reduces Accidents, Fatalities
Fatalities and major accidents can occur in just about every industry that requires a forklift for operation and the transport of goods and materials. However, numerous studies have indicated that many, many forklift accidents can be prevented with proper forklift training.

As you can see, forklift driver safety training is crucial. It can minimize accidents and fatalities on the job while also reducing financial losses from damaged goods. Forklift drivers who operate this machinery without training pose an immediate danger to both themselves and everyone in the work area.

A safe operation is paramount to the success of a business. Safety keeps a business viable and helps contribute to continued profits down the road. Since workers tend to reflect the attitude of the business owners and management, it is important to make safe forklift use a priority at the highest levels. If you haven’t yet implemented a forklift driver training course for your workers, it’s time to do so.
