If called for the Interview, you will be asked to come with your international passport. It is unavoidable.

Your passport can be renewed within 6 months of its expiry. A passport expiring in december for example is suitable for use at the interview. but it is strongly advised the passport is renewed before documentation (if called) or especially before VISA application. It is advisable to have it renewed in Nigeria before traveling, it is not always easy renewing at embassies abroad.

Cheers.

yes @kaad u gat a point
any info discussed in d group will be shared on nairaland

however, d main reason for creating the group is to be able to share PDF files with large size.
Dear Sd,

One can easily be said to understand your point of wanting privacy; but in all honesty, such creating a whatsapp is tantamount to being over zealous over nothing in particular..

1. Those of you in the group would have no cogent information to share amongst yourself, you will still end up running back to nairaland for information.
2. Creating a group at this stage is quite premature... what if no one in the group gets called up for the interview? Trust me, when the time for a whatsapp group presents itself, you would know.
3. Do you not find the 2017/2018 group interesting and informative? What if those persons decided to have some whatsapp group?
4. With Google drive, dropbox and a few cloud technologies, uploading a document has never been a problem.

I can't control your actions and obviously can't stop you from doing whatever you want to do. I only want to save you guys from wasting your time with the whatsapp group.

Cheers...

In other news: Still trying to get some information for you guys. I should have that soon enough

However expect it to come sooner than expected.

Hello Dear!
I hope PTDF took cognizance of some transcontinental programs before they advertised for them, for instance, the Global Management of Natural Resources at UCL London, has 3 terms, with two terms to be spent in London, while the remaining 1 term will be spent @ the University of South Australia, Adelaide in Australia. So who futes the return ticket to & fro Australia?
If you get the scholarship, and if PTDF assents to the choice programme of study, then it will be duly funded.

You could also get some grants also, if you are fortunate.

For PhD, can you come with a new research proposal different from the one you submitted during application if invited for interview ? I helped reviewed someone 's proposal and gave him a more formidable research topic.
I will not advise this. The interviewers already have your profile; in addition to this a copy of the research proposal will be submitted after the interview session... So you dont want this to be different from what was uploaded online, do you?

Honestly, there is nothing like a "Formidable research topic" per sey. What you say sometimes can make much more difference than what you present.

Nice perspective. Unfortunately, I have submitted but removed the letter before submitting. I was sceptical about misrepresenting the scenario. I think it would have passed for a recognition not necessarily an award.
I understand.

So, I published in an international journal (along with others, although I did most of the work). I sent the hardcopy to one of the organisations I wrote about, later they sent a letter specifically to me thanking me for my contribution and for shedding light on their effort in that area.

Would this qualify as an award? What do you think?
If that is the only one you have, upload it while applying and go with it for the Interview (if shortlisted).

If a convocation brochure can be interesting to the interviewers, then a letter from a reputable Journal might prove to be even more interesting. Remember, sometimes the manner you present your case can make a whole lot of difference! Yeah..

Good day all,

For someone who has already completed a self-funded M.Sc in a highly ranked institution in Nigeria but not ready to go for a PhD yet, apply for another PTDF M.Sc (different course)and include the previous study in his SOP and application?

Hope it is not counterproductive!

An urgent response will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.
There is nothing wrong with having more than one Masters degree.

I will advise you maybe tweak the SoP a little bit in line with the demands of and prospects from PTDF.

Yes, your NYSC certificate would have to be cited.

You should have a means of ID also.

Hello peepz, how u all doin. I got admission from a UK university and I then included the admission letter in the documents section and choosed the university as one of the school options. I was wondering if this could affect my chances, as I've found out that ptdf usually secures the admission on our behalf. Thanks.
IMHO, i dont see how it should affect your chances.... However, it should not have been added ideally - Going by the rules.
If it is still possible, my candid advice is to remove it from your profile.

There will come a time when that admission might play a major role... But that time is not now.

Good morning nairalanders and well done for this thread, we are really benefiting. i am applying for PhD and confused with the number of pages they indicated for the proposal, is it really should not be morethan 5 pages...? what about the sample on the website which listed a lots of things to write onsadchapter 1-5) with references. please i need help.
Yes. as much as you can, it should not exceed 5 pages.

It might be beneficial to properly articulate a section for Related Study... and that for Material and method.

Also, i normally advise people to include a thesis milestone/workplan. It can be quite impressive you know.

Hi friends,
Please let me clarify the misconception my statement must have created.

First, I have in no means discouraged anyone from selecting any institution of your choice. No.

Second, I have not discouraged anyone from applying for the scholarship, No. I make sure everyone i can reach out to actually take advantage of this opportunity.

However, i am sure we all know that the demands of PTDF actually differs from the requirements of any institution. For example, while PTDF have asked for atleast 2.2 honours with relevant experience to stand qualified, some institutions would only consider a 2.1 while some actually state First Class (or its equivalent).
Now consider the scenario where you get selected by PTDF, but your academic qualification fails to meet up with the demands of your choice institution? Like Jiang suggested, be sure to understand the requirements of your choice department and institution before selecting a school... Very important. Note that i have not in anyways suggested that anyone goes for a low ranked institution, ofcourse we all want the best.

Yes if you get the scholarship then you cant be denied the opportunity of utilizing the scholarship.. atleast not for one more academic session; but one can imagine the feelings when one see his/her colleagues going for studies while one stay back because admission was denied for one reason or another.. For which one might eventually end up changing institution afterwards.

If you have already applied, please do not feel discouraged on the choice of your institution.

It is best to be wise in our decisions, because in the end, wisdom profits in all things.

Cheers

There are courses for LLMs snd PhDs in oil and gas law in the list supplied by PTDF. The oil and gas industry is a regulation sensitive one. The right kind of laws can be veey helpful for the industry. The wrong kind csn stifle up abd cause it to underperform. Besides, no matter the know - how ptdf pours into the industry if there is a deficit in law and policy, then we go back to square one. The failure to enact the PIGB into lawcis a very obvious example of this.
I quite agree with you.
If there are Law or LLMs programmes available in the scholarship, which i think there are for UK institutions, then i by all means encourage Lawyers to apply.

I should have said this earlier but it must have escaped my mind...

If you are intending to select IFP or UPMC institutions in france, you must be certain to have a very sound academic qualification to stand any chance. The competitiveness makes disqualification rate very high.

Oh if that's what you mean, we don't need to provide any thesis supervisor. In fact, we are not allowed to make any contact whatsoever with the institution in Germany.

Initially thought you were asking about the recommendation letter from a supervisor.
It might amaze you to know that there are a few persons applying for this year's PTDF, who already have informal agreement with supervisors.

However at this stage, having a supervisor doesnt really make much of a sense because there is still the interview stage to contend with. Nevertheless, it will cause no harm to have a look at your choice institution and department, and acquaint yourself with some of the thesis directors and their research interests.

Boss, please I need your help with these.
Last year, my statement of purpose got me a seat at the interview for the Germany France et al. I made little modification and still used it for the UK but was not invited for the interview.
I am in a dilemma as to whether to use a similar statement of purpose or whether to draft a new one.
Thanks
With every single passing day, i believe we grow in experience. I am certain that if you were to write your SoP from the scratch, it wouldnt be thesame as it is now.
My advise for you is to put your current SoP aside, not necessarily discarding it, then formulate a new one. When you are through, compare it with the old one. There is every tendency that you might be more creative in the new SoP.

From my experience, it is more likely that your SoP disqualified you after the interview than it got you to the interview stage.

I have a letter already. You could reach out to any of your lecturer or immediate boss at work. All you need is just one person... without it you won't be able to submit the form.
Be advised that a thesis supervisor should not be mistaken for a line supervisor (job).
You were mostly likely asked to submit details of a proposed thesis director and the proposed research topic from your choice institution in Germany.... and not a recommendation letter from your boss at work.

I have published a paper in a journal. Please will they issue me a certificate as proof? If no, what would I use to prove that I published a paper?
Following a paper publication, you should be issued an E-certificate of publication for free.
You can also choose to get a hardcopy certificate but you will have to pay for it.

If you havent been given the e-certificate, send a mail to the journal.

But i will advise you to print your paper publication when going for the interview (if called). The interview panelist might not really appreciate the certificate of publication.

Cheers.

Hi BishopKuma,

Do not let this bother you much. SoP should not be so much of your worries at this stage.
Upload what you have or what the portal permits, then take a comprehensive one to the interview (if called).

I believe this should serve also. But be very certain that you will get the paper published before the interview (If selected). Because you MUST surely be asked for your publications. This basically is a test of your research acumen

Hi Dear,

Please, kindly state your discipline and your area of research.

In publishing papers, there are specific journals to each research field with different impact factors (I'm not too sure if you know what this means).

Further, there are a lot of "useless" and predatory journals online that will receive your paper and publish it with the sole aim of collecting monies from you.

If you're really keen on publishing your findings, first seek a mentor (usually your project supervisor or someone who has sufficient knowledge in that field) who has enough experience in academic writing and publication. This will significantly reduce your stress in relation to finding journals to publish in.

It's noteworthy to state that some journals are no longer recognized by the NUC and the international academic community consequently publishing in such journals is a total waste of time and money.

I've about 6 publications in high-profile national and international peer-reviewed Journals with good impact factors.

Please, do not rush to do these things. Publications will come at the right time. Therefore, take your time, write a good manuscript, get a guide or mentor, search for journals and their respective requirements, and publish.

All these questions you're asking are totally not necessary.

You can contact me (via pm) if you don't mind.

Best wishes.
Be advised that Isroset and the associated journals are indexed in Thompson reuter with an impact factor of 1.64.
I am an academic and a researcher, so i will not mislead anyone.

However, you have raised some important points.

Cheers
