Car Talk › Re: 2016 Toyota Avalon Flooded, (non Starter) Needs Repair. Solved page 5 by scarplanet(m): 3:57am On Feb 10, 2018 |
Scammer: Whew.
I've been very busy I totally forgot I had a thread here.
Car arrived in cotonou about mid January. The guy who was supposed to clear gave me issues. I had to pay extra 50k to the 300k I gave him earlier.
The car was towed to a park where accident cars are always repaired. I gave a strict instruction about not tampering it or cranking. Until I get there. I went to see my beauty along with my favorite mechanic from lagos. He checked some fuses and some areas of the car to see if car has serious water damage. Enine oil and transmission oil looked clean.
We got a battery to crank. Dash lights came on. If you push the start button the lights go off but won't crank. After much diagnosis Starter motor was the culprit. Starter motor was replaced the second day. Car cranked and poured to life.
But the car was rough idling.
There are some issues.
The airbag light is permanently on. (Maybe the srs module got wet.)
Check engine light and one other yellow light is on.
The car stereo is not coming on.
But everyother thing works perfectly.
At this point I'm quite relaxed. And the known issues are very minor.
Car will be flown to lagos next week. All in all. I'm thankful. No pictures for now for private reasons. Wow! Whaooh! Good to know all isn't too bad with the car like earlier portrayed. When you are able to solve the check engine light and the other yellow light issue, kindly intimate us on the root cause and how u fixed it. When everything becomes settled, we should pop champagne... |

kingreign: If you started using the 20W50 rated oils say 1 year ago, you may change to the more efficient lighter fluid 5W30 albeit, you have to due diligence and keenly observe for any signs of oil burning or shortage or leakages. If there's none, you're good to go on with the use of the synthetic fluid. But, if there is any oil leaks, oil shortage, or burning of oil, please, revert to your old oil.
And on the remarks, thanks a lot ok.. Thank you bro. Will consider what u just told me. |

Dear BrokenEgg,
I am not one that is quick to doubt people, I actually do trust people's good intentions most times. That being said, I actually think you genuinely need the money; but I don't think you will get it on this platform due to the following reasons:
1. For someone who finished high school in 2013, and soliciting assistance 4 years later, you don't strike like someone who is focused. 2. It is not a crime not to be born with a silver spoon, most successful persons we know today weren't. But If you were focused and had properly planned yourself, you should have had enough savings in 4 years to see you through most part of your education. 3. You need assistance but u didn't drop any means of reaching you. What were you thinking precisely? 4. "The internet never forgets". As much as you want to deny it, BrokenEgg and TheHistorian are same person. It doesn't take much to put two and two together to get four! Besides, I am glad that you finally got the admission, and UI rated you higher than someone from North Central! I believe you are starting to get initiatives now. Problem was, you denied blatantly when found out. That was a costly move u know! 5. After you have been found out and exposed, you resorted to throwing jibes and spraying insults as though your getting the money depended on that! That was unwise! 6. Finally, before coming online, you didn't consult your Lord and saviour JESUS for directions, wisdom and assistance knowing he is a just father and a kind friend. Your thread was already dead on arrival.
I hope you getyour heart desires though. Goodluck.
PS: I won't be here again. If you quote me I won't see it, just take the advice and forge ahead! |

Car Talk › Re: Ask Kingreign by scarplanet(m): 11:54pm On Dec 03, 2017 |
kingreign: After long term usage of 20W50 which is a thick mineral oil, the innerds of the engine wears out especially on cold starts and very high temperature operations, the engine develops some smudges which acts as seals too. Now, switching to lighter synthetic fluid say 5W30 which has detergents, will not only wash off the sludge but also cause them to accumulate at some points where they may csuse blockage and since the oil is light it can't lubricate the heavily worn out components. These would cause oil burning, oil leaks and smoking and it could cause inefficient lubrication (not on the synthetic oil part but on the part of the worn out engine innerds) this is a recipe for engine damage. Thanks bro.. you have a way of driving home your points to full comprehension. You should consider being a university lecturer. . From your analysis above, it seems that you don't particularly rate 20W50 oils very highly. Well, for over a year I have been using Total quartz 5000 20W50 for honda civic. As a matter of fact, I just changed the engine oil last week (I change oil after every 3 months or 1300 miles). Now what do u think about the choice of engine oil for that particular car? Any longterm effects? Any advice/recommendations? |

Deprofessional: op. Buy the direct tokumbo of Camry 2001. Forget about Nigerian used. There is a reason the owner wants to sell. Don't discourage the op or try to paint the Nigeria used car in a negative light.. Have you thought of the possibility that the seller might just be in dire need of urgent cash to settle some bills? Op you should take a trusted mechanic to inspect the car... it possible that the car is in perfect condition; and better still, you can get it at a bargain price. |
