librangyps:1. I cannot really give a definite answer to your question. What you should bear in mind is that you are competing with other candidates from your state. So you see why i can't give an answer because you don't know what other persons from your state are presenting. However, i know of a person who got it without a publication. This is my honest advise to you: Prepare a draft of your bachelor's degree thesis and send to an international journal. If you are lucky it gets published on time, then use the published document. If it isn't published but you are sent an acceptance letter from the journal, print out the acceptance letter. As for award/honors, it doesn't have to be a national award. Any academic, research or scientific award can serve... even if it is best graduating student or recognition from a conference. 2. As for age restrictions, i can't really tell. Though some institutions would say an MSc candidate should not be more than 30years. As for PTDF i can't say for sure. I can find out later. 3. If you are asked for an admission letter then it only means one thing. I am sure you already have the answer yourself. For PhD candidates, if you eventually pass the interview (that is if you are called) then it is advisable you start looking for a supervisor immediately. Cheers |
europebaby:I cant really say whether any is easy or difficult to get. I believe getting the scholarship is proportional to the amount of effort you put into it, not also forgetting that God's favour is required too. But in choosing between them, a number of factors are to be considered: Language, cost of living (housing and feeding), Ability to network and exposure to forums, Job opportunities for students, serenity, adequate mentoring and tutorship, ability to get professional assistance, residency permit... The list goes on I obviously wont choose for you, the choice is yours. Cheers. |
dyydxx:This is a Life Changing Scholarship... Yeah, I am sure you read me correctly! Just put in your very best, starting from now during registrations. And remember to always look up to God all the way! Cheers. |
Why not ask your questions on this platform and receive your response? This is important because anyone who reads the thread in subsequent years will actually benefit from it. Truth is there is no rocket science in getting the scholarship. Aside the favour of God involved, your ability to be smart and paying attention to minute details matters alot. Second truth is... If you are waiting to get a sample Statement of Purpose, then i must frankly say that it is the beginning of failure. There is nothing as noteworthy and important as formulating the statement of purpose in your own words and your own experience. This is because in months to come, you can clearly defend what you have written because it typically embodies you. 1. You should be familiar with PTDF's vision and core mandates. Try to build your SoP around these mandates (Very Helpful). 2. Specifically mention what you intend to accomplish during studies. Focus on your strengths. 3. Be sure to state how the knowledge gathered from the studies can be applied in solving real problems; not really pertaining to oil and gas. 4. DO NOT for any reason mention that you hope to get a good job abroad after studies to practise what you have learnt. 5. It will be beneficial to state that you are looking forward to diversifying... meaning while focusing on your studies, you wouldnt mind acquiring other skills (mention these skills). 6. One of the mandate of PTDF is human capital development. so you are expected to show command of good level of leadership, communication, interpersonal and problem solving capabilities. Finally like i always tell people, focus on building yourself. Truth is whether you are for MSc or PhD, three things should stand you are - Academic Qualification, Publications, and Awards and Membership of Professional Bodies. Not everyone would have a First class honours, but while someone with a first class might have a little advantage, a fellow without a first class honours can be chosen ahead of the first class (Trust me, i am not bluffing)! My point is, do not lay all emphasis on the statement of purpose and forget other very important areas. Cheers. |
Jacknn:You have to look for a way to get the transcript by hand because you need it both for application, for interview (if called) and for subsequent registrations. You just have to have it. |
alfarouq:You are expected to apply to DAAD. Applications can be done online, however there are documents which you must upload. check out www.daad.de/en for more information |
Tdarry:No. The pay differs. UK scholars earns higher for both the MSc and PhD categories. Still you need to factor in the cost of living in these countries. In context, the pay is in ratio UK>France>Germany. No support for spouse anymore. But you can go with your spouse at your own expense |

Have you considered the following: Your Class of Degree, Publications and Awards, Professional Body membership? Surely you dont think that the SoP of the thousands of candidates who applied will be read, do you? |
Phekienhlxon:Statement of Purpose is actually an expression of your own intents... I do not know if you can get any sample that would be of much help to u |
Wish all applicants for next academic session God's favour. Feel free to ask any question, especially for those interested in Germany and France |
DMainMan:Deadline cannot be December 2019 |
Keep it lively... |
Getting Interesting... I am coming for you South-Dad FC ![]() |
davide470:Hi bro, I reside in Lyon. Though i intend traveling to Germany for Christmas, but i am sure we can always create time for some sumptuous Baguette and a few frites. Please do well to holla at me when you are around. |
Albertone:Most of the Hotel receptionists speak good English. Since it is a tourist hotel, they know that various individuals worldwide would be coming to lodge in their hotel. You should be fine. Cheers |
emperorblog:VISA requirements depends on the purpose for which you are travelling. What would be demanded from someone going for studies will be different from what is required from someone going on tourism. My VISA to france cost 46k. Walk into any immigration office and get your passport done. You can travel with any amount you like. But above a certain limit, you are expected to declare it. Cheers |
itv17:I have lost counts of the number of Africans i have met in France so far, infact i met a Nigerian lady today. In france you see a black man dating a french lady. My point is... Blacks are more than welcome in France and they are always willing to assist you if you dont understand the language. You will feel the hospitality right from the airport. My cousin who stays in Germany attested to the welcoming nature of germans towards africans. Just stay out of trouble, and if you dont understand the language, be sure to carry your passport when going out for the first few weeks. |

If you have all the requirements, then you shouldnt have an problem securing VISA. My visa process was pretty straightforward, and i got mine in exactly 9 working days. With a schengen visa, you can visit countries like Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain e.t.c without having to secure another visit. This means that a French VISA permits you free entry into all 26 Schengen countries. Aside those countries, you need to secure a visa. Cheers |
Albertone:1. I started a French class. But unless you are attending a function for which you must speak french, then you dont really need to pay more attention to learning the language immediately. 2. I am currently lodged in a tourist hotel, and it costs 100 euros per night but that doesn't mean it is 100 euros in the whole of france. Eventually, How much you should budget is directly proportional to how flamboyant you would want to live in france. forexample, while i have lodged in a tasty hotel of 100 euros, you might choose to want an economy one. While i am not really an outing person, you might be someone that loves partying or hanging out often. Also, the city you will reside in france would also determine how much you will spend. Cities like Paris, lyon and Montpellier are generally very expensive to live in. Cheers. |
I arrived france a few days ago.... you can ask questions regarding preparation and life in france generally! But i must tell you, it is a whole new experience from what we know in Nigeria! |
we are gradually growing in numbers... 15 teams at the moment. The mods would do well to move this thread to front page to attract more participation |
Hehehe... Seems Nairalanders are not into FPL ![]() |

samuel3818:1. Do you know how many persons has First class from your state? With awards and publications? Your "strong" 2:1 doesn't stand a chance. 2. How have you deduced that your old colleagues aren't as brilliant as you are? Because u had a "strong" 2:1 and they probably had "weak" 2:1? If only you'll understand that paper certificate doesn't translate into knowledge! 3. You have been struggling with your own human effort, and that can only take u to a limit. Most often, the race is not to the swift neither is the battle for the strong. Only the king of mercy shows mercy! 4. Humility pays alot... humility in our actions, thought, deeds, words, and decisions! Peace! |
