FROM FRENCH MISHAP TO MOROCCAN GLORY: THE METEORIC RISE OF CHIAMAKA NNADOZIE opera.com It was the second group game of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and the Super Falcons needed to win against South Korea to keep hopes of qualification alive. The destiny of the country rested on the shoulders of a young lady - young and unheralded! Coach Thomas Dennerby opted to change his goalkeeper for that game, following the poor showing from the first match. So in came Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie for Tochukwu Oluehi, all Rivers Angels products. While many were skeptical and pessimistic about that change, few who have seen her play for her club Rivers Angels, were very confident in the abilities of this young lady - the youngest ever goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in the history of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, an 18-year-old! And what a way to announce your arrival to the world. Do you know that saying about opportunities and a prepared mind? Yes, yes... That one! Nnadozie produced amazing saves in that game, so much that the commentators were in awe. But how did a young lady - who was only second choice at her club - have so much in her to take on such a task right in front of not just Nigerians but the whole world? Just a few months earlier, Nnadozie had played in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup where she started all four games Nigeria played, as the first choice goalkeeper, receiving the Player of the Match award for her impressive performance against Haiti. Shortly after, she got called into the senior women’s national team for the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana where she had to make do with being on the bench for first choice Tochukwu Oluehi. In a chat with Opera News, Nnadozie attributes her “success” at the Senior Women’s World Cup to the exposure she got while playing with the junior team in France. “Being in both World Cups felt very good. I learned a lot from the Junior World Cup and it gave me the encouragement and confidence that I needed, even though the senior World Cup exposed me to the world,” she said. Following Nigeria’s defeat to Norway, the Super Falcons needed to break the jinx of not making it to the second round of the World Cup since 1999, making the game against South Korea a very crucial one. The young Nnadozie who was in goal during the Falcons’ 8-0 friendly loss to France in April, made crucial saves in the victory against South Korea to endear herself to many. Nnadozie’s World Cup appearance was not without the controversial moments, owing to the new rules and the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR). In the final group game against the host nation France, the young shot-stopper held her own against the ferocious French attack for about 75 minutes until the penalty incident. Wendie Renard missed her kick, but VAR replay showed Nnadozie breached the new rule which says goalkeepers must have at least one foot on the line. When asked about the VAR situation, Chiamaka said: “I knew about the new rules and regulations, but it just happened that way”. Just before the World Cup in France, Chiamaka was named the goalkeeper of the tournament as the Falcons won the 2019 WAFU Women’s Cup In Côté D'Ivoire. The Super Falcons defeated their Ivorien counterparts on penalties with Chiamaka saving 2, something that was fast becoming her trademark, as with every other Rivers Angels’ goalkeeper. There was more to come out of 2019 for this young goalkeeper. Fast forward to August, in the finals of the Women’s football event at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, in the face of stiff opposition from fans of Cameroon, Nnadozie again saved 3 successive penalties to hand Nigeria her third African Games title, sending the handful of Nigerian fans at the Stade Boubker Amman Stadium into wild jubilations. “After the game, when it ended in Penalty kicks, I encouraged myself and my teammates. It was my first time at the African Games, and it could be my last, so I had to give all I had within me and it ended well,” she said. Nnadozie returned to club football with her club Rivers Angels, a team she joined in 2016. Despite playing second fiddle to Tochukwu Oluehi, she has won 4 league titles and the most recent at the Nigeria Women Premier League Super Four tournament in Lagos where she made multiple saves to deny Confluence Queens. While some of her colleagues at the World Cup have seen moves to bigger clubs outside the country, the mega-deal is yet to come for this brilliant goalkeeper. That may be because there is a low demand for goalkeepers in leagues abroad but that will not deter Chiamaka Nnadozie who says in the next 5 years, she sees herself playing in one of the biggest clubs in Europe. 2019 has been one to remember for this young lady, best in her career so far. But what a difference 12 months can make in the life of an individual - The story of Chiamaka Nnadozie. And with many years ahead of her, the story has only just begun. BascoVanVeli:The reasons behind his sack at Delta Queen that's what i mean, not at national Level. |
One thing for sure is that the players are more motivated under the Female Coaches, Superfalcons toughest game i have ever watched remains the 2011 FIFA Women World Cup game against Germany that we Lost 1nil... I can share Link if anyone is interested.
|
If I'm to pick a male Nigerian Coach Peter Dedevbo should be number one but the guy selection is questioning though due to some issues during his stint as Delta Queens coach.!! As for the Female Coaches, Florence Omagbemi remains number 1, then Uche Ngozi Eucharia. |
Premier Division Femenina Top Goal Scorer Chat.
|
Imagine the Senior Players of the Superfalcons saying they wish Florence Omagbemi can be brought back to coach the team, that shows the quality she possess.. I wouldn't want to mention the players names here if not i would have.... Superfalcons have played better quality of Football Under the Female Coaches than the Male!! |
BascoVanVeli:Making Oshoala Captain wasn't a problem though, but the Scenario surrounding the situation was actually questionable ..... Since Thomas Dennerby has resign and Coach Danjuma has continued to disappoint on interim basis, It's high time an Ex-international ((Florence Omagbemi)) handles the team on a Long term basis and at least get 75% of the Support giving to Dennerby....or better still bring in a More technical and Technical Foreign coach from the (US, Germany or Netherland) |
BascoVanVeli:Nothing Concern Ruth David with Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Folade is the one running the League and doing a great job.... while Ruth David is the evil one destroying the Women National Team |

REVEALED: Ruth David Is The Nemesis Of Women Football In Nigeria 0 comments, 23/10/2019, by Best Choice Sports, in Uncategorized By Amaechi Agbo with Agency report The head of Women Football Department in the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ruth David has been described as the nemesis of women football in Nigeria. Dapo Sotiminu who stated this recently while guesting in a television sports programme in Lagos, alleged that since Ruth David became the head of women football department in the NFF, nothing has been working. Mr Sotiminu who was angry over the manner the Super Falcons were bundled out of the 2020 Olympic qualifier by Ivory Coast on Monday, 7 October, wondered why the board members of the NFF turned blind eyes to her horrendous attitude and highhandedness in managing female football as well as players. He further alleged that that with what happened to the Super Falcons at the Soccer Temple in Agege, Ruth David has succeeded in taking Nigeria women football at the senior level ten years backward. Dapo Sotiminu who was a guest in Sportsvilletv show after the Super Falcons match in Agege, Lagos said… “A lot of things happened to the super Falcons and I must say right here in this programme that I am not happy with what happened to the Falcons especially because that was the only opportunity a lot of women football followers would have had to cover the Olympics. “FIFA accreditation actually closed as far back as 2018 and we were hoping that the Super Falcons would pick the ticket. FIFA had sent out accreditation and we are waiting for the Falcons to qualify but this time around, it is not going to be like that. This is happening the third time. The last time the Super Falcons played at the Olympics was in Beijing 2008. I was there with coach Joseph Ladipo who was the head coach of the team. We tried our best but we did not actually go far. Since 2008 up till now, we have not been able to go to Olympics. It is basically all because of poor management of the team, the coaching crew and everything that concerns the female national team. “The change in captaincy did not come from the NFF secretariat but it came from one of the staff of the NFF secretariat. I do not know why they allowed her and that thing has been going on for a very long time. “This woman, she is the head of Women Football Department of the NFF. She is not doing too well managing the teams. She does everything negatively. And with what happened to the Super Falcons at the Soccer Temple in Agege, she has succeeded in taking Nigeria women football at the senior level ten years back. We saw what they did at the World Cup in France just in June. This is a team that have closed the gap between Nigeria, Africa and Europe, Asia and South America in women football. Look at the French team that defeated the Falcons 8-0 a year ago in a friendly, they pleaded with the Super Falcons to let them go in the World Cup this year because they are hosting. “Look at that scenario and compare it with what we played at Agege against an Ivorian team. Poor management of the team, the secretariat, the Secretary-General, the board of Nigeria Football Federation, left everything in the hands of just that lady. “She is the head of Women Football Department in the NFF. Her name is Ruth David and she has been the nemesis of women football in Nigeria, that is just what I want to say,” he said. On his part, a fellow guest and Sports editor, Vanguard Newspaper, Tony Ubani blamed the NFF for sowing the seed of failure in female football. Mr Ubani wondered how a staff who came into the federation as a youth corps member could grow over night and become so powerful that NFF board could no longer control her. “I think the blame rest squarely on the NFF. They are the ones who are sowing the apple seed of discord. There is a proverb in Nigeria which says that no matter how tall okro tree grows, it will never be taller than the one who planted it. No matter how tall it is, the planter can bend it. “I do not know how a staff, somebody who just came in as a ‘youth corper’, somebody who learnt on the job could become so powerful. It begins to ask so many questions because when you see a mad person dancing in the market, there is somebody within who is beating the drum for him. “The mess we are in is so annoying because I keep thinking how the Super Falcons that have conquered Africa and are getting at par with the European powers could then suddenly fail flat. And as it is, one thing is that when you make a mistake in football, it drives you back. “Look at NFF, they have not come out to say anything concerning Thomas Dennerby, who walked away. Thomas Dennerby made allegations pointing to the same person in the women department – a lot of interference, bringing their own players to play. That is at the root of the captaincy issue we saw. After all this, we have paid the costly price, yet, nobody has seen anything bad in it,” he stated. On what should be the way forward, Mr Sotiminu advised that NFF should without delay, redeploy Ruth David to another department adding that unless this is done, Nigeria women football will not grow. “For honour, the NFF must be honourable enough to redeploy Ruth David from the women football department. That is the only thing they can actually do. “Thomas Dennerby was not actually worried about being owed one or two months salaries but his own issue is that he does not want to come back there and meet or work with Ruth David again. And he had a point. This is the correspondent between himself and the minister. “And he said that because of Ruth David, he would not come back. And what that means is that because of this woman, Nigeria women football at the highest point will not develop. We are going back ten years now because of this thing that has happened. “The entire team that played against Ivory Coast was actually selected by Ruth David. The coaches did not make any input. And that was why when Danjuma (Christopher) came, he played a player, Monday Gift that is a top striker, he played her left full back. This is a player that plays top striking role and uses both legs easily, and she scores goals. You saw a lot of tactical defects in the team. “Francisca Ordega that is always a predominant striker, was always shuttling between the defence and the attack, where is the strength?” he queried.

Dede kicks against equal pay for Eagles, Falcons punchng.com Oct 11, 2019 Former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Precious Dede, has faulted the agitation for equal pay for the Super Eagles and Super Falcons players. Former Falcons’ captain, Desire Oparanozie, had in July renewed the call for equal pay between the men and women footballers, which reportedly led to her exclusion from the team. Dede said there was a need for the Nigeria Football Federation to upgrade the payment of the Falcons, but added that it shouldn’t be in the same range with that of the men’s. When asked about her take on the agitation for equal pay, Dede told The PUNCH, “I don’t think it is possible for the women players to be paid the same thing with the Super Eagles. “This is because they are guys and it is not done anywhere. But at least, they should raise the women’s team members’ pay to a reasonable amount but not equal rate with the guys.” When asked if the Falcons’ were well-treated, Dede said, “No, they (NFF) have not been treating them well till date.” She, however, cautioned Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala to be cautious in dealing with officials of the NFF, coaching crew and players. Speaking on what worked for her as a captain of the women’s national team, Dede said, “Once you humble yourself, you will be able to manage so many things. Even when officials and players are saying the wrong thing, I listen to them and move on. |

Five Super Falcons players cry out over unpaid Women's World Cup bonuses goal.comOct 2, 2019 9:01 AM Three months after participating in the showpiece in France, some members of the team are yet to receive their entitlements Five players of the Nigeria women's team are owed bonuses and allowances worth 7,700,000 million naira [$22,000] for playing at the Women's World Cup in France, Goal can exclusively report. The affected players are goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Chidinma Okeke, forwards Ogonna Chukwudi, Alice Ogebe and Chinwendu Ihezuo. While the team await their share of one million dollars, Nigeria's Women's World Cup appearance fee, Goal understands the five players are yet to get their bonuses three months after the event. In June, Goal reported that the Super Falcons had staged a sit-in protest in Grenoble over unpaid entitlements following a Round of 16 defeat to Germany. In response then, Amaju Pinnick the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said they have offset all the outstanding allowances. Meanwhile, players told Goal they were each owed $3000 for winning bonus against South Korea and $1400 for accumulated daily allowances. "This thing happened since June 14th when we are in France, NFF said they want to pay $4400 which $3000 is for winning bonus and $1400 is for daily allowances for each player," an unnamed player told Goal. "They [NFF] said we should submit our dollar account, we are five that don’t have a dollar account, so we call our people at home to help us open the account. "They [NFF] also said we should not worry about that as they will pay it into Desire Oparanozie [then captain] account and we said okay no problem. "But when they were doing the payment they pay Desire only her money which we ask them why they didn’t pay us through Desire’s account as they promised. "They said the accounts said that he or she wants to pay it into our owe account that we should submit our account information which we did on 23th of June. "Since then till date what we have been hearing is that they will pay it until now we haven’t received any money from them reach today." In defence, an NFF official explained the reasons behind the three-month-long delay after admitting the unpaid entitlements to the five players. "The payment didn’t come from the NFF France allocation but was sourced from sponsors fund," an NFF official told Goal. "The delay happened because we don't have the said account so it has to be treated separately afresh. "But a mistake was made to have sent only account numbers without payment instruction. "Later it was discovered several weeks after and has to be changed. Now the sponsors have to authorized the payment." The wait to secure their entitlements continues for the affected players, with Okeke and Nnadozie involved in Nigeria's Olympic qualifier doubleheader against Cote d'Ivoire. Nigeria are bidding to return to the Women's Olympic Games iin Tokyo next year after missing back-to-back events, at London 2012 and Rio 2016. |

Update: After the meeting between NFF and minister of youth and sports on Tuesday, Thomas Dennerby has been contacted to arrive Nigerian by weekend. He will be having a meeting with the minister, ministry staff and NFF to find out on what the issues are and deliberate on a way forward so that he can continue as the Super Falcons coach. More to follow...... |
REVEALED: Why Dennerby Dumped Super Falcons, Danjuma Drafted In 0 comments, 16/09/2019, by Best Choice Sports, in Investigation, News By Amaechi Agbo Super Falcons Coach, Thomas Dennerby has left the team unceremoniously over claims that some influential members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were interfering in his work as Falconets coach, Chris Danjuma has been drafted in to take charge of the team as they play in the second round of the 2020 Olympic qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire later this month, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report. The 60-year-old Dennerby has been in-charge of the Super Falcons for over 18 months. He was engaged in January, 2018. Also read http://bestchoicesports.com.ng/revealed-nff-cabals-plan-to-frustrate-dennerby-out-of-super-falcons/ Best Choice Sports had in August reported plans by a cabal in the NFF to frustrate Dennerby out of the team. The cabal who are from the Secretariat and Women Department of the federation worked against the wishes of the coach to have his former assistant, Maureen Mmadu retained as well as blocked him from inviting Falcons combative midfielder, Rita Chikwelu, and others to the qualifiers against Algeria. A source close to the NFF said the Swede, who led Nigeria to yet another African Women Nations Cup triumph last year and the round of 16 at the France 2019 Women World Cup, left the country immediately after Nigeria’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifier against Algeria at the Agege Stadium on September 3. “Dennerby complained that some NFF officials were making his job difficult for some selfish reasons. These officials ensured that some players, who complained that they were being owed allowances and winning bonuses, were shut out of the national team. These officials wield enormous power in the women teams. Super Falcns won the 2018 AWCON in Ghana “He got angry that these people have taken their activities to his team selection and decided the best thing to do was to go away. But we are trying to talk to him and address his concerns in the interest of the nation,” the source said. Before he left, Dennerby was preparing the Super Falcons for a Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire for which the federation recently invited 30 overseas and home-based players to camp. The players, according to the NFF, are expected to arrive in camp today, but the source said Dennerby may not likely return to lead the team against Cote d’Ivoire unless on-going efforts to convince him to return succeeds. The source added that the crisis infested NFF has asked Falconets’ Head Coach, Christopher Danjuma to take charge of the team for the Cote d’Ivoire game. More facts that the Swedish had abandoned the team emerged when on 13th of September, NFF released the list of the players to prosecute the matches against Cote d’Ivoire with Dennerby’s name not mentioned in the release. This was in contradiction with the earlier release the NFF made when the team tackled Algeria in the second round qualifier. In the release made on 7th August, the NFF said “Tokyo 2020: Dennerby invites 30 Super Falcons for Algeria,” with Dennerby’s name appearing in the headline and lead of the release unlike the 13th September release with the heading “Tokyo 2020: Super Falcons to regroup for Cote d’Ivoire,” with the coaches name never mentioned a single time. Dennerby, who returned to his native country of Sweden two weeks ago, is not back in Nigeria to lead the team against the Elephants with two weeks to go to the first leg tie in Abidjan. The Swede left the country after leading the Super Falcons to the third round of the African Women’s Olympic qualifiers. This was after a 3-0 aggregate win over Algeria but he is now on the verge of leaving his post. The 60-year-old gaffer, who led Sweden to finish third at the 2011 Women’s World Cup in Germany, had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract to take charge of the team in January 2018. In his last 18-months in charge, Dennerby led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2018 Wafu Women’s Cup in Cote d’Ivoire, where he returned to lift the title in 2019. He also won the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana and later steered the nation to the Women’s World Cup knockout stage for the first time in 20 years in France earlier this summer. Dennerby and the Nigeria Football Federation are yet to comment on the matter, but a top NFF source told Goal the gaffer is threatening to quit due to his frustration and lack of support. “It is a serious matter because he [Thomas Dennerby] has been complaining about a lack of support which was not really from the NFF leadership but the secretariat,” the source informed Goal. “Most of his demands are administrative. He wants a permanent residence in Nigeria to stay and also support to travel around and see league matches week in, week out. “Although he is still being owed one to two months he is not complaining about the money but the necessary administrative backing for his day-to-day activities. “I also think the major reason why he is not happy was the fact he was not informed about some of his key players taken to the African Games when he was planning for the Olympic qualifiers. “Well, he felt his job was tied to the Olympics and denying access to his best players was possibly a ploy to sabotage him. We don’t know if he will return or not but these are some of his demands.” Having learned about Dennerby’s stance, the NFF has swiftly drafted U20 women’s head coach Christopher Danjuma to lead the team against Clementine Toure’s side, on the interim basis. Danjuma, who recently invited 37 players, will be assisted by his U20 assistants – Wemimo Matthew and Abdul-lateef Yusuf as the Super Falcons open camp in Abuja on Sunday. It is not the first time Dennerby had threatened to quit for similar reasons. At the moment, it is unclear whether the NFF, led by Amaju Pinnick, will be interested to honour the demands of Dennerby. The Super Falcons camp opened in Abuja on Sunday while the first leg of the qualifier will hold at on September 30 while the return leg will hold on 6th October at Agege Stadium, Lagos. Thomas Dennerby’s contract was to expire after the Olympics in August 2020. |

And utilize them in their traditional position! imaging deploying Ordega as a right wing back during the World Cup was waste of Pace, Strength... |

. I hardly doubt your information but my thought is that making Oshoala the captain should never be brought up as a reason why we were eliminated. She is our Messi so why not? Oparanozie was not even the oldest when she got it.
