Good morning e-family. Please, I'm asking this question for my sister. She's travelling August to the US on Study visa. Please can she book one way, cos the return flight prices I'm seeing are fearfully priced . I want to be sure she can book One way before we book it. Thanks 1 Like |

DBlessedofGod: Yes, I did not apply with them. I hope you know that the embassy respects your decision; whether you apply first and secure your visa , go there and invite them, or you apply together In my case, I got my trv very early, and I decided to apply for then immediately so that, in case the processing took long, I won't feel it that much. For example, many people applied June last year and got approved December. However, in my SOP, because I knew I was going to apply immediately, I did not state that I won't go with them. I was careful with my choice of words. I just stated that I am married and have a daughter and that I am not applying with my family for now. Be diplomatic. You don't have to state that you're not going with them. Just say you'rr not applying with them for now (which is true). Simple. Your marital status already implies a solid hometie. Anyway, I don't think they dig up your Sop when they review your family's application. But, just to be safe and true... 2 Likes |

emeify:1 No, I didn't breakdown my budget. I just worked with the CIC requirement ---> Tuition +10,000 Cad for and 7000 Cad for 2 accompanying dependants and I showed that our funds available were enough to meet (+exceed) this requirement. Let me quote a part of my SOP under subtopic funding and budget: Funds Available Presently my Ph.D. study is funded by the University for four years and the amount payable for the year 2019-2020 is 25,900 CAD. Ultimately, 11,153 CAD is available for my living expenses after full tuition has been deducted (Admission letter, Funding letter and Tuition fee is enclosed). In addition to this, for my family , I have the sum of two million naira in my account- a gift from my mother to me from her matured fixed deposit account, as a contribution to our settling down in Canada (My statement of account is attached showing the transfer after maturation, the fixed deposit certificate is also enclosed). My husband also has the sum of one million, two hundred and twelve thousand naira in his personal Access savings account. Summary of funds in total: Me (fund for living expenses from Queen’s): 11,153 CAD Fund for my family: 3 million naira (11, 490 CAD) We believe the funds we have will be very sufficient to tide us over till when my husband gets a job. I am most certain that my family joining me in Canada will neither cause me nor them to be financially destitute and rely on the State for our daily needs. 2 I made my letter as emotional as I could. Let me quote a part to highlight this (some part are quite personal, so I won't include in quote): "I will be going for a 4 year doctoral program and I have so many exciting plans to execute when I return and get into academia here in Nigeria. In the meanwhile, I will be away in Canada for many years and I would love to walk that journey with my family. I have travelled to for a research trip before and I endured the absence of my husband because I knew that it would be over in three months. Four years, however, is a very long time. I can’t imagine being away from my husband and daughter for such a long period of time. I shudder to think of leaving my daughter behind (she will be just 1 year and 6 months when I resume). As she’s still very young, and I will love for her to come with us because there will be no one to take care of her when I leave. My mother, my only living parent is elderly and still in active service. You will agree with me that every child needs the love of her ‘mummy and daddy ’when growing up. There is a raw pain in the heart of mothers when they cannot be with their child(ren) for years. In order to avoid this heartache while I make use of this opportunity that all my hard work and rigorous studies have prepared me for, my husband and I have given this situation great thought and therefore, have decided that he comes to join me, along with our daughter, for the period of my study duration. I therefore appeal to you sirs and mas, to make it possible for my family and I to be together for my study duration. Having my husband and daughter here will not only build our marriage, but also motivate my performance in my research study, and boost my emotional health. I am very confident my husband is going to support our daughter and I emotionally, physically and financially if given a work permit." 3 Yes I did. I stressed on this... 4) Yes I talked about my funding as much as I could. I also talked extensively about my husband's work achievement. Also, I introduced myself in the beginning chapter. I talked about my educational history, awards and achievement. My research work across several geozones in the country. My internship and all that. I also briefly talked about my research plan for my study. ( This was just to establish a strong purpose of visit* ) I ended with this, bolded : "Dear respected sir/ madam, I really want you to know that the decision to grant my husband and daughter visas for the duration of my study will tremendously impact on my studies, my academic pursuit, my emotional health and our quality of life as a family. It will also impact on the investment that the government and people of Canada are making on me as a doctoral student in their country. I therefore sincerely seek your favourable consideration for us to continue our journey in Canada while I study." Hope this helps 11 Likes |

Jeandji:Visit visa for your 7 months baby I don't know much about question 2 cos I've not renewed my study permit before Both have almost the same average processing time. I think speed is independent of application route. I prefer paper though because of the recent delay in returning passport after its submitted upon request. Whatever route you choose, pray about it! 1 Like |

omoluka:Yes . You can get that in two ways a) Open work permit - strictly for those whose spouses are working or studying in Canada. With this work permit, you can work in any sector in Canada. You are exempted from the LMIA requirement b) Closed work permit- can only be gotten with a job offer in Canada. You need LMIA |

guzenaira:Excellent advice sir. I'll also like to add, for your wife's spousal open work permit application, employability is a crucial factor. Pls endeavour to prove that she is working: reference letters, Id, employment letter. Payslips, everything you can add. Also, make sure she has funds in her account too no matter how small. Don't put all the money in your account. Last, hometie is very important, cos all of u are moving. A property or business can work for that. You can value it if you can. Add everything you can think of o..... less is not more for CIC o God will do it. Pardon my typos, I rushed to type this 2 Likes |

Thanks to all my beautiful people. I see you all. All our labour will not go unrewarded. I really desired to go with my family cos they mean the world to me. So contrary to popular opinion that one cannot get visas for family while still in Nigeria, I decided to apply. I started preparing for the application immediately I submitted mine. First, we valued our property (about 12 million), we also booked upfront medicals. Fortunately my visa came before the date given. So I got my study visa May 7th. And I used these documents from me: My approval letter My passport showing visa My previous passport My admission letter Funding letter (showing I have over the required 10k cad for personal living expenses, apart from tuition) Letter of invitation. I explained several subtopics *relationship history *why swop and visit visa for daughter (daughter is less than 2 years) *funding and budget * husband work expertise and designation *purpose of visit( to join mum for PhD) I realised that unlike study permit application which is quite objective, sowp and family sponsorship application can be very subjective. ( I wrote the sop in a way that I appealed to the compassionate side of the VOs). I particularly capitalised on the fact that I don't want to leave my baby for 4 years + ,nor my husband. Marriage documents: Marriage certificate Change of name Newspaper publications For my husband: A letter of introduction introducing him and his relationship with me, his work designation ( he's an engineer). He talked a lot about his work achievements e.t.c since its a work permit application Introduction letter from work Appointment letter Confirmation letter Id card Payslips Hometie Property receipts Property document Valuation His Pension fund account. ( just about 1million plus) Financial part This was very tricky. After much deliberation. We decided to use what we have. My husband had a million plus in his account. His father had earlier sent to him 1 million, 6 weeks before we applied. ( We explained it in our letters). My mum gave us one of her fixed deposit monies (2 million). We included the fixed deposit certificate to show it has been fixed for 3 months and I stated in my letter the day it was terminated and sent to my account. It was sent just 2 days before I applied but I made sure I showed it has been fixed for a long time and thus, its available. So basically our funds consisted entirely of 2 lump sums but it was explained with proof. We included our parents ID cards , passport, sponsorship letter from them, and employment / retirement letter. We also included our birth certificatesto prove paternity. Daughter: Her birth certificate Her immunization report Little things like her church dedication certificate bearing our names. We included photographs but vfs did not allow us to submit it. I later submitted it via webform. We submitted May 14 exactly a week after I got my trv May 23, medicals was passed June 17 BVL came in for my husband June 27 approval for them both. My daughter was even given 5 years visa. More than my 4 years program. I saw God's hand in this application. Honestly, I was so clueless. But, the Holy Spirit helped me every step of the way. Writing the letters, tackling the financial part e.t.c. He made this possible. I will like to answer questions more on the forum as suggested by Mods so everyone can learn instead of pms. I return all glory to God o My temporary lovestory with CIC has ended in praise 41 Likes 5 Shares |

I submitted on March 14 via paper route. No update till last week 24th April, when I suddenly got my medicals passed and biometrics validity correspondence letter. Approval - 7th May The documents I submitted with the Imm forms: Admission letter (Queen’s University; PhD) Funding letter from university ( 25,900 CAD yearly) I added my mum’s account of about 1 million....and added her fixed deposit certificate on second thought (2 million). Her letter indicating support to cover my airfare cost + early settling down costs. Mum’s passport 2 Previous Internship letters in research institutes Previous passport and visa stamp (trip was for research purpose) Posting letter (Npower) Transcripts + Certificates Paper publication TOEFL + GRE score reports Detailed SOP Police report Marriage certificate and Change of Name +husband's passport That’s about all....I held on to Mark 11:24. I return all glory to God. I really wish every TRV hopeful the best! 7 Likes 1 Share |

sillysassysally:No it won't they will update it. You are close. Mine was like 2 weeks after medical update. Yours can be shorter than that since u're resuming earlier. One more thing, you can call the hospital to confirm it has been sent. Is it IOM Lagos? I have the guy's number but I can't drop it on a public forum, and with the restrictions on communication here.... U can send to their mail or call the general line and pray they pick. But I'm sure they would have sent your results anyway. 1 Like |
