Nice post. Please, i have a published paper in an international journal and two works in progress... Do i need to include a copy (10 pages) of this paper in my TRV application or should i just cite it?
Am going for thesis based MSc.
Hi do you have a certificate of acceptance for your paper? Attach it and cite the paper. Definitely don't add the 10 paged paper...my opinion

Hi everyone!
I have come again grin shocked shocked
Ok so while waiting for our visas or admission letters as the case may be.
Let's maximise this period of waiting.
There are many options especially if you're not working or if you are on a job that is not demanding. I have some suggestions:
1) Learn french. Yes you heard me right. I know you might not be going to Quebec but the world is so much on languages now. I know most of us have some basic grasp of french. Thanks to our yeye secondary school french classes grin grin grin. Leverage on that and build on it. I believe ultimately, we are going somewhere and our future masters, diplomas and doctorates are means to an end , not just an end. Plus, you never can know what door that extra language skill will open for you.

2) Start practising the IELTS. Trust me you'll need it. Even if you've taken the TOEFL. You'll still need it. It's logical to try to apply for PR when we get to Canada so...go figure!

3) For the academia inclined ones. Work on getting published. Go back to your thesis and try to make manuscript from it..., also try to get collaboration with you future supervisors ( trust me they have unpublished works of previous students). You can offer to be the editor and get your name in that paper. It will be stressful but ultimately rewarding. Remember the academic slogan publish or perish! smiley Don't wait till the end of your program. Make publishing a priority.
My desire is that African youths also take over everywhere like the Asians and maybe the Jews cool
It will end in Praise!
Happy Sunday!

Good morning my people...

LONG POST ALERT!!
I have gone through a lot of posts on this thread, and I think I have gained insight about the study permit application to a degree.
I have learnt that we are unique individuals from various backgrounds, experiences and financial circumstances. Comparably, we have stories in varying shades that our life experiences so far, are telling.
My overall advice for each one of us is to look inward , reflect and choose the best strategy that will work for you. #use your church mind.
There will always be different kinds of advice e.g. apply alone, write 5 page SOP, -no! Write only 2 pages, do not apply with your children. No! Apply with them (at least the VOs should know you are a nursing mother). Apply for your family when you get to Canda, No! You can do it immediately you get your TRV.

When people come here to tell you what they did, they don't tell you their background and circumstances, so you really cannot have a clear picture of why it should work for them

Some people are very well travelled. Some people are currently abroad, and applied from their with their families. The travel history they have gained might be the critical factor tipping the scale in their favour.
Another example is someone in seriously good financial standing might apply for a PGD with his family , and get the visa before a Master's student applying alone.

A single individual, funded and applying without hometies might get that visa if (s)he has a lot of distinguished work done in the home country with several medals and awards.

Some people e.g. myself, write extremely explanatory SOPs simply because we have waded through a lot to get to where we are now and these experiences and relevant career achievements are worth telling.

Most Visa officers are psychologists. They consider the whole picture. So please, after considering the plethora of advice, use your God given mind to analyse your unique situation before you apply.

May God give fruit to all our efforts.

Hello house, please i need advice as my wife application was declined last month. I have been following this thread silently.

After careful review of your study permit application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the IRPA and IRPR. I am refusing your application on the following grounds:

1. I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your purpose of visit.

She apply with our two kids as she going for her PhD program and I already paid one-year tuition fee to the school, and I already make the fund needed in her account and the kids account because I have been running the kids account since they are little.

ADMISSION DOCUMENT FROM SCHOOL

POLICE CERT
AFFIDAVIT OF SPONSORSHIP
SPONSOR LETTER
CONSENT LETTER

BIRTH CERTI
MARRIAGE CERTI
HUSBAND PROPERTY DOCUMENT
HUSBAND BANK STATEMENT

Please, I need advise on how to convince the VO. AND WHAT DOC DO YOU THINK I NEED TO SHOW IF AM TO PROOF THEM WRONG THAT I WILL COME BACK

I will really appreciate ur help
Hi gig. So sorry about your wife's refusal.
Please let her apply without her kids for now.
Also, I'll suggest she asks around in her department for a Professor with grant to support her research costs. Since, you've paid tuition, having funding for her actual research (PhD research gulps a lot of money) It will make things lighter.
I'm sure she will get with her Ph.D. admission, she just needs to ask.
This time around, let her apply alone. Immediately she gets her trv, she can apply for her kids.
I wish you guys the best

Good morning beautiful people!!!
I want to drop this here...
Let's all be positive. Honestly, we have nothing to lose by being positive. Let us have a default point of these kind of thoughts :"This will happen to me! My plan will work! I will have my visa! My admission will click! My family will join me!"
The thoughts we think very much build an energy around us. Negative thoughts will come but what we should do is refuse to think on it. Ignore it till it fades away. For me, I begin to speak these words, and my heart will immediately be at peace.
The truth is (For Christians here) Bible says we are Citizens of Heaven....that's a higher citizenship than any other around the world, so let's draw strength from that and rest in faith.
Summary of it all: Give the best application you can, do the best you can and....STAY POSITIVE!
Please stay positive. It will work out in the end!
Have a mega lovely day!

For example it was after I secured a professor and have established very good contact with him. I was quite satisfied he is the kind of person I would want to work with for 4 years. 4 years no be beans grin shocked Then I applied. It was after I applied that I checked the ranking of my school
In retrospect, maybe it was a lack of foresight.....However I believe the program, research and funding is more important than the school (at least for Canada). My 2cents

I co-ask this question.
Does the quality of DLI play a role in study permit decisions?
I’m quite knowledgible with USA visa processes and I can attest to the fact that the quality of school one is going to really helps with US study visa because it already sort of assures the VO that the applicant is a genuine student. Is this advantageous for Canadian study permit?
What do you mean by quality of DLI.
Rank of school. Is that what you're trying to say cos DLI is DLI..
Oh well. What matters to me is a fully funded stay in a lab with a professor who's work is perfectly aligned with my research interests.
I hear almost all Canadian public universities are good. I think it's difficult to establish a pattern with these visa things....they are simply unpredictable

I have applied for Master of Finance at Queen's and have been interviewed by the admission team on Friday. I am waiting for my admission letter which they promised to send to me this week.

I hope I can meet up with visa timing. How long does it take to process online visa application? My program starts in June 2019.
Wow congrats. Grace goes with your application. I think there is a time line of 3 months. Some visas get approved within 3 weeks. So just trust God for speed. I think you should get all other things ready now. So once it's out, You apply e.g. police report, medicals e.t.c.
God's best

I need sincere advise.
I was ready to submit my application tomorrow.
I couldn't get an upfront medical date. The earliest I could get is next week wednesday
Should I go ahead and submit tomorrow or wait till next week Thursday (after the upfront)
Will the upfront medicals be worth the postponement ?
Someone mentioned doing it after submitting. Is that method safe?
I look forward to answers
Thanks

Please, do I need to write another SOP for the visa application or same that I submitted to my school before gaining admission.
Secondly, my total funding is about 18.780 CAD per annum...do I still need to provide account statement. Can it cover for me and my spouse? If not, like how much should we have in our accounts to qualify.

Also, my spouse is a lawyer, will his/her stamp/seal or call certificate substitute for all those company documents. Then, the visa application fee will it be paid double(husband and wife) or as a single applicant for couple. Then what are the picture size to print, and what background colour shoul the digital passport be?

Finally, what is pay stubs for four months. (Stubs of what precisely) and what are the CIC documents?
Hi Pinky. I pm'd u. Reply my mail abeg

I'm going fall funded.
I have a husband and daughter, and I plan to apply for them as soon as I get MY tRV.
I'm aware that fund is of essence for spousal visa app.
We have a sponsor ready to sponsor him , can he use the sponsor , or it has to be his personal money.

Looking forward to an answer. God bless

Let me post this again. I will appreciate an answer:
Please I need some clarification.
I'm applying for study permit alone. With intention of applying for my husband and daughter after I get MY tRV/study visa.
In filling the form, there is a place where it's asked.
Are you going with your family?
Am I to tick yes or is it no? since I'm applying alone for now.
Please help, I don't want to make a mistake and I'm gathering information.

Also they say canadian schools waive the TOEFL for admission. Well I did it just in case and My Supervisor later told me my 100 something score made me more competitive. I think it's safe to do it especially for Teaching assistant spots. I stand to be corrected tho.

Pls I would love to know the school you applied to and how the process was.....I have MSc in Civil Eng and would love to go for PhD.
Please help
Hi dear,
Queen's University, Kingston.

First research where u wanna study. Please search based on your course and the lab. I guess by now, you have a picture of what you want to do. For me its- studies along climate change, Stable isotopes, NMR spectroscopy and ecosystem watershed. You know best. With those keywords , carefully weed out the Profs. Dont send a generic mail to every Prof in the department please. Just a few that are a good fit with your research area.

So you can search all schools in Canada by checking their Civil eng. Departments and their Profs. Contact those Profs. This step is key for PhD admission. You need someone ready to take u up for a period of 4-5 years.

Step 2: Secure a supervisor. It involves mailing all ur potential supervisors. This is where patience and fortitude is needed. Don't Stop mailing. Please carefully craft your introductory mails. For me, I did one to two Profs per 3 days so as to have time to check their papers, research work e.t.c. They have to feel that u really want to do research with them SPECIFICALLY.

Step 3: Once you have a supervisor that bids you come. He/She will most likely skype with you . Was so in my case sha. You can then --->Apply and TRUST God . Tell God about your desire. Mark 11:24 and he will perfect it. He's the one with the final say.
It will end in Praise!

@ Schonebaby's, It will end in Praise... I have been seeking admission for PhD in Canada for past 2weeks, can u put me through ?

A breif about my background ;

Bsc (3.28), MSc ( 3.88) both in transport management.

I am interested in Intelligent Transport System
Thanks..
Hello,
Getting a PhD position takes patience.
Keep sending out mails. Don't Stop. There is always someone looking for you!
If you must know I spent almost a whole year doing that howbeit, passively . I sent a bunch of mails and more.
Also, do you have research experience. Do you have publications?
Well I got in without publications, just an oral presentation and proceeding but I have interned in a research institution in Spain for 3 months and gained some training and research skill set.
The most important thing is prayer. I got to a point where I was tired of it all. I prayed to God to lead me to the person for me. I really prayed and believed him and Jesus did it.
Also How are ur mails to Profs like? Craft something interesting that shows why your research and career progression so far makes him the one. Let your research interests align

Your mom should retain the money in her account and present a letter of sponsorship stating that she is aware of the scholarship that was granted to you by the university in Canada (quote the amount of funding) and for this reason, she will be responsible for your flight itinerary fees to and fro and other miscellaneous expenses that might be incurred by you during your study in Canada. She should include her bank statements and the fixed deposit statement too.
Ok thanks.
It will end in praise
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by Schonebaby: 1:19pm On Feb 14, 2019

Yes, you need to provide additional proof of financial support aside the funding that was awarded to you for your studies in Canada. You can possibly include a personal bank statement that will cover your flight itinerary to and fro and other miscellaneous expenses.
The issue now is there is nothing much in my account. Just an average of about 50k. Can my sponsor (mum) send about 1m into my account. Will it not raise a red flag_lump sum?
Or should she just give me a letter of sponsorship and retain her money. She also has some monies in fixed deposit.
I will appreciate ur insight sir

Irrespective of funding, you will show your capacity to take care of your yourself as if the funding wasn't Involved.

If normally 1Million is required for your schooling and feeding, ...
You will be expected to show atleast 500k in your SOA.

It is a good opportunity though, try not to complicate the whole process of application by Raking documents here and there.
