Nigeria is a funny place. I find it totally baffling that even with all the decay in society, we are still debating whether or not to revote in a repressive government that has consistently impoverished the common man for 8 years.
At this point in a sane country, the present government would have been booted out.
The hunger and insecurity is biting. Government is insensitive to the plight of the common citizens. Yet still boldly seeking re-election.
Rich or poor, there's no joy in this country. The poor have it worst, because even poor man food is becoming unaffordable to them.
As for the rich, there's little rest, no freedom because of the many insecurities.
In a sane country:
At this point even if APC brings in John the Baptist as their candidate, they should be rejected. Anything short of that is re-enforcing bad behavior; and will seem like we're telling them to carry on with the 'good' work. APC shouldn't be considered no matter what or who they field.

As for PDP we've all seen what they have to offer. And it's not much different from what APC has currently done. In a sane country PDP won't be considered.

As for LP, I'm inclined to say they are the same as the 2 mentioned above. But voting them in gives a strong statement. A statement that says Nigerians are wiser and won't hesitate to vote out any party that does bad. A strong and bold statement that if you Bleep up you would be voted out at the next poll.
That's how countries grow. We have to move away from reelecting failing government, thereby reenforcing them, to changing failing government and trying new ones.
This kind of voters ideology is the only thing that will keep government on their toes and force them to deliver what they promised.
Right now APC can't promise anything because the promises of the past 8 years haven't been met.
We should stop encouraging bad government by reelecting them.

This war is shaping up to be disastrous for both sides. Putin really should have thought this through before he started.

I read most comments on niaraland and it seems a large number of people here are getting turned on at the prospect of Putin winning this war and oppressing the Ukrainians. I can't help but feel disgusted when I read these pro Putin comments.

If you ask majority of the pro Putin people why they want Putin to level Ukraine, they'll say because the US also invaded other countries.
First of all, that argument is neither here nor there. Because Putin is not invading the US, he's invading Ukraine. Should we start encouraging every other country to invade their neighbours, because 'afterall the US invaded many countries?'
It is saddening to see that this is the mentality of a lot of people in this country. No wonder we keep voting stupid, wicked leaders with nothing to offer; resulting in a country with no progress.
For instance, If you complain of the bad leadership of APC, their supporters would tell you that they see nothing wrong with the government because after all PDP did worst.
My point is wrong doings should be condemned in its entirety no matter who does it.

Second it shows the classical victim blaming mentality of insensitive people. These people who cannot see that Ukraine is clearly the victim in this conflicts, are the same people who will blame a lady who was raped, claiming she brought it upon herself for dressing scantily... effectively exonerating the rapist.

We have to isolate all wrong doings and treat them as their own separate case.

As you type out comments supporting Putin invasion of Ukraine, there's little Ukrainian kids who are suffering from this war, some are dead, some have lost loved ones and means of livelihood, some have no idea what the future will bring. Yet you sanction the evil Putin is doing.
